Sofie learned that there was an Alteration teacher down in Kynesgrove, so she made her way down there to sharpen her skills a bit. She promised Dravya Stoneweaver that she would bring back some frost salts for her. Though the ice knows where she will find those! She made her way back north from there, exploring the east back of the river.

Along the way she discovered Yngol's Barrow, and could not resist poking her nose inside. Some glowy balls kept her company. But it was Sofie and Larry who finished off Yngol's ghost. Now Sofie has something to sing about!

Today I did some tinkering on her sister. Here is a sneak peek of Lucia, all grown up.

Yup, Alise loves coming home to a house full of kids. Kind of reminds her of her young years growing up in a Cyrod orphanage. In fact, she spent a couple of days recuperating from Sovngarde (and the hard-earned victory over Alduin) playing tag and hide-and-seek while Argis got his nerves back after being separated from her at such a crucial time (followers are not permitted for the last three stages of the main quest, so Alise was entirely on her own).

Your description of Buffy among the Nord kids reminds me of my fifth grade teacher Ms. D! She is a very petite lady (yup, still alive and kicking, though she taught me forty years ago - she was quite young when I had her for homeroom/fifth grade, and she just retired two years ago) and hard to pick out from a gaggle of fifth graders. But she always got the best out of us! Fantastic woman in so many ways.

Rider, aww, thanks for that story about Mrs D. happy.gif Just the spot of inspiration my short elf needs in the land of giants. biggrin.gif

Sofie spent the day journeying west, stopping off at Dawnstar to put an end to people's nigthmares. While she was there everyone's old friend The Courier found her, and gave her a letter about a new museum opening up in Dawnstar! laugh.gif That was a first. Sofie is not the museuming kind though, and did not pay much attention to it.

Instead she was off to the west again, exploring the coast of the Sea of Ghosts all the way to Solitude. She made a few stops at High Gate Ruins and Ustengrav for good measure, and had plenty of loot to sell of once she finally reached the big city.

After arriving she found no shortage of things to do. She started by delivering a book to the Bard's College, that she had with her ever since talking to its author in Windhelm. They immediately gave her a quest to undertake to find the lost verses about King Olaf.

But she also learned of trouble in Wolfskull Cave. Since that seemed more immediate, she decided to poke her nose in there first. Sofie put her bow to good use in the big open spaces of the cave, and sharpened her sword on necromancer's bones. When all was said and done she found herself barely loaded down with loot (since robes and soul gems are light), so she did some exploring and found Fort Fragglerock nearby. Well no one needs to tell Sofie twice that bandits need killing, so she went to it.

After a stop at Dragon Bridge to sell off some of her loot, and to find the treasure from a map she had discovered a long time ago, she made her way back to Solitude to unload the remainder of her hard won gains. Now she is ready to go looking for that lost bard's tomb, and discover the truth about King Olaf.

Sofie's been busy, that's good. smile.gif And that's hilarious about the Courier. So he just shows up in the middle of that spooky quest .. "E e e excuse me, important delivery to make, your eyes only. Let's see here...." How bizarre.

SubRosa - I very much like that Mara / Vaermina quest at Dawnstar. I'm sure it suited Sofie to a tee as well. smile.gif

Buffy was skulking around a fort (Gallows Rock). Her detect life showed the guardians to be humanoid and hostile. Sure enough, one of them spotted her and charged. She had the room and range to take him down just fine, then sneaked and sniped down the other three. She discovered they were something new to her – Silver Hands. And there were werewolf heads on the door to the fort. Curious Elf went inside.

Not surprisingly she found more of these Silver Hand bandit-like fellows and killed them all. She also found a Savage Werewolf locked up in a prison cell. Her detect life spell said he was not hostile – she knows that can change in a heartbeat though. She uncrouched so he could see her outside the bars and he still was not hostile. Dumb Elf unlocked the cell door with a spell (mod) to free the poor wolf creature.

Things then happened very quickly: The Savage Werewolf attacked. Buffy peed her greaves, turned and ran – summoning a flame atronach and her bow. As soon as Cinder the atronach had the beast’s full attention, Buffy whirled around and took out the animal with her bow. Then she sat down and cried for a time.

She was not at all happy about her panic response in this situation. So I asked her what she might have done better. She clung to her decision to at least try and free the beast – she is a forest predator herself and could not imagine being caged. I suggested that the problem was perhaps that she did not develop a plan for the rather distinct possibility that the beast might attack when freed. She agreed and decided her response should have been to dual cast a calm spell if he went hostile. Then conjure her bow and nail the ungrateful son of a skeever.
Renee
Really interesting you have that 2-way relationship going where you can ask her stuff. I'm not like that at all with any of my characters. I think me & mine sometimes meet in dream states, but the relationship we have is pretty vague.

Isn't it cool how Detect Life can differentiate between friends, foes, and dead? bluewizardsmile.gif~

Alise has a full house! The kids must have a lot of fun with a lake in their back yard. I saw a fairly new children overhaul out on the Nexus, RSkyrim Children or something like that, but I haven’t tried it. The kids look quite different from one another in the screenshots.

Sofie has gone to college! I love the Bard’s College quests. I think she is just the warrior bard they have been looking for.

Renee, congrats to the new Listener. And also… *shiver* blink.gif

Acadian, what a charming mental image of petite Buffy playing with those sturdy northern kids. Jerric offers a shoulder squeeze of sympathy to Buffy on the unpleasant werewolf surprise. Thick Nord also opened that door with a spell. kvleft.gif

Jensa has been checking things off of her to-do list between Riften and home (Windhelm). She cleaned out her packs looking for fire salts for Balimund and sold off a bunch of junk she’s been hauling around. Jensa has a lot of stamina and a horse mod, so she had accumulated quite a bit of stuff. After the clearout she still had a coral dragon claw and a bunch of scrolls from J’zargo. (As Dragonborn Jensa was invited to join the College of Winterhold without any silliness from Faralda.) So anyway she figured she would test the cat’s scrolls in the barrow while figuring out what Birna’s claw does.

The barrow is practically at Jensa’s front door, she couldn’t believe that she’d never investigated it before. She had a good time inside playing with what she took to be sea-ghosts. Jensa does not dwell much on history. She figured it was none of her business what happened with Yngol and his clan, and since the ghosts didn’t attack her they could be friends. Still she sneaked the whole way through chanting her Aura Whisper Shout so that she and Stenvar wouldn’t add their bones to the collection. Increasing her difficulty has helped her return to her cautious hunter roots.

They got all the way to the big door lock without opposition. The sea-ghosts bounced all around clearly excited to finally get through that door. Then Jensa who is kind of a dingbat realized that she didn’t have the claw. Stenvar turned out his pockets and he didn’t have the claw either. It was in her horse Brise’s saddlebag. That’s when I saw something new. The bouncy lights accompanied her all the way back to the door! They didn’t go outside, though. After Jensa and Stenvar fought the only undead creature in the barrow Jensa realized that she did not test one of J’zargo’s scrolls on it. In fact she did not actually have one of J’zargo’s scrolls in her inventory. They were still in the saddlebag.

Jensa took the back door out of the barrow and found herself in unexplored territory. She experienced one of those moments of manifest destiny that must have driven her forbearers to leave Atmora. In her case it led to a jog across ice fields and then snow fields and eventually she realized that it was getting cold and she was in the Velothi Mountains. She found the Dunmeth Pass from the Morrowind side.

Once she got back into Skyrim Stenvar found her, and surprisingly he had both horses with him. And then two dragons attacked while they were passing the farms outside Windhelm! It was an awesome fight. At the end a Dawnguard patrol (mod) joined in. After the second dragon went down they gathered around with the local farmers to view the bones. I hoped they would break into a kick line. It had been that kind of Jensa morning.
Renee
Kick line! laugh.gif

SubRosa
I was thinking the last pic looked like a chorus line too!

When Sofie did the Yngol Barrow just recently, she went in without talking to Birna and buying the claw from her first. There was a second claw sitting on a pedestal in the barrow, and she used that one. When she got back to Winterhold afterward, then she asked Birna about her bad deals, and she offered to sell the claw to Sofie. Sofie declined.
Renee
Poor Birna. sad.gif I feel so bad for her in a way, especially while looking at her often-dismal selection of things for sale. A couple of my characters who dealt with her semi-regularly often would try to arrange it so that she'd wind up with lots more things to sell, this way she makes some money while my chars are out-of-town.

Mycharonna seems though she's getting to the end of Dark Brotherhood, which is gonna be sweet! I'm going to take a nice long break from Skyrim for awhile before trying Skyrim on PC. ph34r.gif Anyway, some things she's done lately....

She can fly (she's my only fast-traveling character because of this). She was in Helgen, walking towards Riverwood, where she would feed once again. Problem was it was already 2:06 AM, and the sun would be coming up soon. People would be awake, etc. So she flew to Embershard Mine instead. And fell in love with the place after clearing it of bandits. laugh.gif

Embershard was one of my other character's places: Skankee Krahk-ho lived here for awhile. But Skank died at some point, and now Mych has decided she'd like to have Embershard as her own.

When I retire her game, I think the triangle of Anise's Cabin, Riverwood, and Embershard Mine will become her home. She fed in Riverwood during my latest session with her, but once she 'retires', she won't feed from anybody here anymore. Too close to home. You don't [censored] where you feed, right? smile.gif

Grits
Embershard is nice. Mycharonna picked a great spot. I remember that’s where Skank got romantic with a deceased bandit. blink.gif Congrats to Mych on nearly reaching retirement!

Captain Zanimal and his raiders Stenvar and Asrael took a longboat around the northern tip of Solstheim on a scouting trip. The Zanimal’s instincts were correct. No way was he going to risk his ship in these ice infested coastal waters. He was right to leave the Bloodrunner docked in Raven Rock.

There wasn’t much alive for the Zanimal to see with his predator night vision so it was easy to find the pirate camp he was looking for. They quickly executed the idiots who had already done the work of digging up the treasure chest. Now the Zanimal is in possession of a piece of the treasure and more importantly a genuine treasure map. Sadly the rival gang all died before the Zanimal could get a bite in, so he’s still hungry.

The smell of tribal Nord on the wind lured him up the hill to the Skaal village. All of the locals were inside presumably asleep. The Zanimal is no stranger to this type of isolated community with their narrow religious views. It doesn’t take much to get them started on a vampire hunt. He slipped past without tasting anyone. At least for now.

Shortly after they ghosted through the village the Z crew met a bunch of Rieklings. Capt. Z does not eat Rieklings. He found them rather amusing. He’s actually giving them a hand with their little problem. It never hurts to have a friendly, non-judgmental roof to shelter under in a strange land.

Plus if they annoy him he can always kill them all and still sleep in their house. Either way.

I got incredibly frustrated with my Oblivion game today and decided to do something completely different instead. I created my retired character Mikke of Green River’s kids Sofie and Alesan as adults like SubRosa suggested in the Roleplaying Ideas thread.

Sofie Shieldmaiden of Whiterun learned Block and One-Handed from her mother Mikke. She uses Alchemy as a result of her flower-picking past as a street urchin in Windhelm. I’m using a mod that increases the skill and level requirements to join and advance in the Companions guild, so she’ll need to get some experience before she can fulfill her dream of becoming a Companion like her mother.

Alesan is going to be a traveling merchant based on his history as the son of a sailor. He’ll dual wield (those curved swords, lol) because he’s supposed to be flashy and awesome. He ran his butt off bringing meals to the miners as an orphan in Dawnstar, so high stamina will be one of his defining qualities. Lots of slashy power attacks. I’m debating making him use Flesh spells for armor so he’ll be extra fast, but I won’t know until we get into his game.

I’m using the mod Doge for their pet husky Dante, a puppy from the Dawnguard battle dogs that their mom Mikke brought home. I can already tell that I’m going to have to go in there and adjust Dante downward in speed and damage. Good grief that pup is a beast in combat.

Sofie and Les live in their childhood home Breezehome (thanks to Alternate Start). Their parents Mikke and Roggi Knot-Beard presently live in Kynesgrove. I already had Mikke as an NPC in the Braidwood Inn, so I just had to make the kids as NPCs for each other. I did Alesan first and put him in Sofie’s game. When we went to check him out at the Drunken Huntsman Sofie immediately started her game without seeing whose turn it was. So I guess I’ll wait a bit to make her as an NPC for Alesan. They are supposed to live in a post main quest world since their mom is Dragonborn. They won’t release the dragons or learn words from walls.

First order of business for the new adventurers is to walk to Riften on a pilgrimage to Lady Mara. Their mom insisted. She’s a badass so they didn’t give her any lip. It remains to be seen what they’ll do once they taste the freedom of the open road. I suspect that Sof will do as she was told, since she was a serious and fierce little kid in Mikke’s game. Les might be prone to wander. We shall see.

That's what Tyra's doing. She doesn't change out of her outfit for anything, so those spells keep her viable. I have Rayya modded to do the same, as her main follower, and I changed the other Hearthfires housecarls and bards to be female Reguards so they could wear all the variants.

Tyra went and got the Axe of Fiery Souls and put that enchantment on both her scimitars, and on Rayya's too. It works nicely on a fast weapon, as the fire damage stacks. I added a recipe to make scimitars (requiring the Advanced Armours perk) as the supply is limited after Saadia's quest is over, and it's too easy for a Draugr Deathlord to disarm one and lose it.
SubRosa
Great to see more of the kids grow up! Alesan is stylin' in the crimson ranger outfit. I loved that one, until I noticed the female version had a hole in the chest. sad.gif

Kids grow up so fast these days... laugh.gif

Well... Today I had a bit of a skyrim marathon and finished the MQ with Ravos.

Sovngarde was awesome, really really awesome... but the actual fight sucked. indifferent.gif

Still... an overall enjoyable, if not slightly underwhelming experience.

I think now Ravos will have a bit of a break. Maybe just finish off Lakeview Manor and do the odd side-quest while I focus on Oblivion or something else. After that he'll do the DG and DB questlines, which will be fun biggrin.gif
Acadian
Between SubRosa and Grits, it is great fun to see how the kids of Skyrim are all growing up! A new generation of adventurers!

Vital - Ravos getting a break! Buffy just spent a few days in Cyrodiil before passing through our magic portal back to Skyrim. It's fun to treat the two games as simply differing provinces to visit.
Vital
Acadian: I thought of doing that a awhile ago, after seeing some people here do the same thing. It might be a good idea considering that I'm keen to get back into oblivion, but haven't got a good character for it.
Acadian
Heh, well with only one character, I needed to work out something to pass between provinces.

I basically ignore the 200 year time diff, but keep things vague enough that Buffy can maintain contact with her friends - regardless of how they approach passing between Skyrim and Cyrodiil.

She uses a magical teleportation through a portal type system to pass between Cyrodiil and Skyrim mostly to help account for the big differences in how many things work. For example, her magic is quite different in of the two places and she can take no physical objects (armor, weapons, trinkets, etc) with her. She arrives in each province a bit like the Terminator - curled up in a naked little ball! laugh.gif
SubRosa
Now I am imagining a naked Buffy walking into an inn. "Give me your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle..."

Vital, I think it’s nice to give a character a real-time break after a major adventure. It helps me think they’ve had time for a rest in their life.

My crew has to take a road trip to get back and forth between provinces. They think Buffy’s portal is an excellent idea! Especially the part about the naked wood elf. hehe.gif

Captain Zanimal made a discovery on Solstheim. Ash spawn are pretty much made out of treasure. After that he spent a night combing the ash wastes looking for them.

The lure of the hunt quickly tempted him back to the west coast, though. He found some more ash spawn outside Raven Rock. Then the local Redoran Guard captain saw something he shouldn’t have and took exception to our pirate captain’s lust for blood. Stenvar, Asrael, Capt. Z, Capt. Z’s summoned skeleton crew (a Skeleton Champion who summons his own skeleton from SubRosa’s fabulous Undead Summoning, both armed with Elven weapons as befits undead Dunmeri pirates), and three Rieklings who showed up out of the blue took on the guards of Raven Rock.

They prevailed. It was a long fight requiring many scrambles over the Bulwark and several beatdowns of Captain Veleth who seemed he was some kind of immortal in his own right. Perhaps it’s his dedication to duty that kept bringing him back from the brink of death to fight on. Regardless, eventually the entire night shift lay dead.

The Zanimal took the time to relieve them of their arrows and pocket change plus as many weapons as they could carry. Then he struck out for the coast. It was hard to tell how much night he had left due to the ashfall, but he guessed he could manage one more quick raid before launching the Bloodrunner and taking her up the coast to Northshore Landing.

(This is where we have to pretend. The Z’s ship mod will not allow him to actually move the ship there, so we’re going to use the jetty as a fast travel point back to the ship. Hopefully I won’t mess up the timing and accidentally fry him in the sun while doing this.)

While Captain Zanimal and his raiders were securing the jetty, Stenvar developed an attitude problem. I suspect it had to do with the Zanimal’s new Augmented Flames 2 perk combined with a Fire Rune accidentally set off under Stenvar’s feet. Oops. Stenvar attacked his captain and would not listen to reason.

So the Zanimal did what he had to do. Admittedly he was pretty delighted to actually get to fight Stenvar despite his affection for the man. Stenvar is one big fetcher with a lot of healing potions in his pack (because Zanimal gave them to him) and a very nice sword enchanted with fire damage (also given to him by the Zanimal), so it promised to be a sweet battle. The Zanimal moved away from Asrael to keep him out of it and did not summon any backup. Matters of crew discipline should be handled personally.

The fight was very nearly the end of the Captain. He was down to a sliver of health backed up against an ice wall. Stenvar had room for a power attack. The Zanimal got ready for a combat bite. He was not afraid of adding his ashes to the wind since he’s had several long lifespans and just doesn’t worry about what comes next. Plus he’s never fed on Stenvar and wondered what it was going to be like. I was sweating it because I screw up the timing pretty much always, and I was pissed off because I personally like Stenvar and did not want him to die.

Stenvar wound up for an overhead strike. The Zanimal slipped in and reached for his throat. The screen went red as the Zanimal drained his buddy Stenvar, which is after all what one might expect a vampire to do.

Then a mod miracle happened. Stenvar stood up, turned, and walked away south into the dark. I saved and quit because these moments really should be savored. I’m going to miss Stenvar and his pierced eyebrow and especially his excellent gear, but I’m glad it worked out this way. Perhaps the Zanimal is not an irredeemable prick. At least that’s how I’m going to think of it.

SubRosa and Rider - Yup, it was those epic Terminator arrivals that inspired our thinking.

Grits - I know that each of us comes up with ways to deal with that silly 200 year stuff. I do pretend there is also a passage between the provinces in the Pale Pass area. Although Buffy doesn't use it, I wanted there to be a way to easily reconcile that many of her friends (Jerric, Aravi etc) do travel up there without special provisions. I'm trying to have the best of all worlds - something that works great for Buffy but doesn't stand at odds with her friends. Not perfect, but just well enough that a dash of magic can make getting together for RPs and such work. smile.gif Wow, what an epic time Z'Animal has had in Solstheim! And thanks for the great screenshots.

Buffy's not been to Solsthiem yet. But I think we have things set up for that this playthrough. She's level 37 and recently triggered the cultist attacks and Dragonborne DLC. Long story that I don't have fully fleshed out yet but, at the moment, Buffy is scouting and sniping for the real Dragonborn. . . who is. . . wait for it. . . Sir Mazoga!!! They have just discovered that Jurgen's horn is missing and have the note to meet 'someone' at Riverwood. I wouldn't be surprised if Zoga tasks Buffy to go deliver the horn and investigate Solstheim while Mazoga finds out more about what Delphine wants. I would not be surprised if Buffy wrinkles her nose at questing in Solstheim and insists on simply exploring the place.

What is sort of shaping up is that when Buffy gets back, we could pretend Mazoga had completed the MQ. By pausing the MQ with Blade in the Dark open, it provides a stable and perpetual 'dragon light' game - that is, they will spawn only on dragon walls - no random attacks on settlements. It may change by tomorrow, but that is our working plan for the moment. wink.gif

I'm finding that in Skyrim, what works for Buffy is to simply recreate her and start anew when things get long in the tooth. I think that is due to several factors: Very easy to recreate her. Don't care for any of the quest lines. Dungeons take forever to respawn (will probably change that for our next playthrough with a mod - to about three days).
SubRosa
Grits: Captain Z raids Raven Rock, and then squares off with Stenvar! He must be the most famous pirate in the Sea of Ghosts now! Now if only Stenvar could return years later, the captain of his own ship, and bent upon revenge...

Acadian: Sir Mazoga steps up again! laugh.gif

I know what you mean about the very long time between respawns in Skyrim vs Oblivion. That is one reason my characters never pick alchemy ingredients while outdoors. It never respawns in their games, so the world looks less pretty. But I found in Persephone's game, she has been at it for so long that the dungeons she explored in the past have respawned. She has been to a few places at least three times now, with a fresh crew of bad guys every time. So as long as you keep busy, dungeons will eventually restock.
Acadian
Yes, I'm looking at a mod that makes everything that is supposed to respawn do so in 72 hours.

Buffy and Mazoga the Dragonborn told Delphine the Deceiver they didn't have time for whatever nonsense she had in mind. They then delivered the horn to the gray dudes. The gray dudes are trying to teach Mazoga how to sing and shout and do magic things with her voice. Well, Mazoga is many things, but magically inclined is not one of them. So we figure Mazoga will be at High Hrothgar for a very long time getting voice lessons. In the meantime, Buffy agreed to go to explore Solstheim and map it all out. That suits her to a tee and she has recently arrived in the Morrowland island province. smile.gif

Buffy encountered a dragon based out of Bonestrewn Crest that was circling his wall and attacking the nearby mammoths and giants. Buffy believes there are good and bad dragons - just like good and bad humans/elves. And this was a bad dragon. Her powerful bow and high magic resistance actually make her well-suited to kill mages and other ranged magic users like dragons. She has to keep her distance of course, but that is easy to do vs dragons.
Vital
Grits:Sounds like you're having some really nefarious fun with your vamp pirate biggrin.gif It's the completely unplanned and unpredictable moments such as Stenvar attacking Zanimal that make adventures in TES games so exciting!

Acadian: A trip to Solstheim for Buffy while Mazoga deals with the dragons sounds like a brilliant idea.
Grits
Acadian, I love the magically flexible nature of our worlds. It warms the heart to hear about Buffy’s consideration of her friends. Sir Mazoga the Dragonborn! That’s great!!

I just started using the Save As Preset/Import Preset function in the RaceMenu mod to make NPCs from characters. It should also help lots when I get to the point of restarting games. There are the regular presets for the race and then my characters will be in the mod’s second set of presets.

Vital, I completely agree. I love when characters surprise me!

Grits: Captain Z raids Raven Rock, and then squares off with Stenvar! He must be the most famous pirate in the Sea of Ghosts now! Now if only Stenvar could return years later, the captain of his own ship, and bent upon revenge...

That would make a great story! biggrin.gif Much to my delight it later appeared that Stenvar made an attempt to take over the ship! When Zanimal (Z’Animal, nice one Acadian!)and Asrael got back and the Zanimal retired to his captain’s chambers for the day he got the You Cannot Sleep With Enemies Nearby message. A tour of the crew quarters revealed Stenvar asleep in one of the beds. This was a puzzle. It took some doing but the Zanimal was able to dismiss him from the crew and Stenvar left. What a relief! If I couldn’t get Stenvar to go and he had remained hostile I would have taken that as a successful mutiny. That would have been a major pain to deal with.

The Bloodrunner is docked back in Solitude. The last Solsheim treasure hunt was stymied by a Stalhrim deposit that they couldn’t get through. Now that the Zanimal’s privateering days are over and he’s the dread pirate Z again at least in Solstheim waters, he’s hesitant to go ask around in Raven Rock. He considered approaching the Skaal for information, but those Nords are too close to nature for a Daedric creature’s comfort. If he wants to kill them all someday he will. He just didn’t feel like it today.

I left him in his quarters fiddling with the Bloodstone Chalice. He may decide to go for a walk in the Rift. Also after the Stenvar incident he’s a little nervous about keeping his treasure hoard on the ship. He wouldn’t mind finding a nice place along the coast to bury some of it.
Grits
When Captain Zanimal returned to Solitude he found it much more exciting than he remembered.

First a guard greeted him on the docks with a polite reminder to clear up a small legal matter. This time the Zanimal did not respond by declaring war on the Hold. Instead he paid his fine and handed over the few pieces of stolen goods that had been rattling around in the bottom of his pack. The guards of Haafingar are more than welcome to spend their time tracking down the original owners of a few accidentally misappropriated ink pots, plates, and tankards.

Then as the longboat glided under Solitude’s arch the Zanimal noticed a dragon circling over the city. He has no problem with dragons eating the citizens, but he does not want one burning his ship. He led his raiding party (Asrael and Sheena to replace the disgruntled Stenvar) up the side stairs into the city and entered the fray. Funnily enough they discovered that Solitude was also in the midst of a vampire attack. The Zanimal got to use his Ice Storm spell since the dragon stayed high for most of the fight. It was pretty neat to see Zanimal’s Elven Skeleton Champion taunting the dragon. In life she must have been quite the badass.

After the fight Zanimal checked the casualties to see if there was anyone he wanted to resurrect on the sly and toy with a little, but between the guards’ vigilance and the lack of interesting bodies he ended up just leaving. On the way back down the stairs he considered his options for the rest of the night. Raid somewhere closer or plan to hole up afterward for the day in some cave? What to do…

Then when they exited through the door at the docks a pair of Vigilant Vampire Hunters plus a Dawnguard member (mod) attacked! The fight was close enough to the ship and early enough in the night to attract two more of his crew. Captain Z just stood back and watched his people work. Oh, also earlier I accidentally hit the button that summons dread creatures to fight for the Z, so there was a random death hound on their side this time. It was a long fight. Those hunters are very strong.

Sadly they are too strong for the Zanimal to raise them, so he is without fallen enemies to entertain with their moaning. He’s debating a trip to Dawnstar. He might like to bury his treasure underwater near the harbor.

Wow, you weren't kidding! Lions and tigers and bears, Guards and dragons and vampires, oh my! ohmy.gif

Zanimal sounds like a blast to play.

Buffy made it to Sostheim. They seem to call her Outlander there instead of Milk drinker or Little elf. So she figures those who live there must be Inlanders. Happily, Superian made the trip just fine as well.

She's still getting oriented. She found was seems like a fort guarded by hostile reavers. Funny, they walk like, talk like and die like bandits. Then she helped a temple clear things called ash spawn from their undercroft.

Wow, they don't say 'Little Elf' to Buffy? smile.gif I would have expected they would say this all the time.

It was pretty neat to see Zanimal’s Elven Skeleton Champion taunting the dragon. In life she must have been quite the badass

You know? .. I've had this thought too; some draugr especially must have been pretty fearsome while they were still human.

Why would they? Most folks (if not all) in Raven Rock are Dunmer - i.e. Elves themselves. It makes perfect sense to me that they would call Buffy "Outlander" while back in Skyrim the racist Skinheads in disguise would call her "Little Elf" or "Milkdrinker!"

Whoops I screwed up. I didn't realize they are mostly dark elves. Haven't even been to Solstheim yet.

She's been there a few days now and all she's been called is Outlander by the Dunmer and Skaal.

In talking with the Skaal, she's completely fascinated by them. Their belief in the All-Maker almost perfectly mirrors what Master Daenlin in Bravil taught her as a child and how she has lived most all her life - respect the land and creatures, take only what you need to and be thankful to the creatures you must kill for the food and clothing they provide that sustains you. Her approach in this regard has always reminded me of some of the American Indian tribes. If I recall correctly, you have some of that in your blood as well? smile.gif

Edit: Oops! I only just now saw/realized the both Rider and Renee were posting as I was leisurely composing this. Sorry, didn't mean to seem as if I was ignoring both of you. I agree with Rider on the 'Outlander' feeling very appropriate coming from Morrowindy Dunmers. smile.gif

Outlander is basically an insult among the Dunmer. The word in their language for it is N'wah, which means foreigner and/or slave, one often being the other. You get it a lot playing Morrowind, including if you are playing a Dunmer. They basically hate everyone who isn't a Dunmer, or is a Dunmer, but was born and raised outside of Morrowind. When it comes to racism, the Nordic skinheads have nothing on the Dark Elves.

Correct. Some Cherokee. Also German / Irish and African. I look white though.

Well that's is cool about the Skaal and their beliefs. I assume Skaal are found in Morrowind, or one of the MW expansions? I'll be playing MW soon, and for the first time, this fall. I might also revive Lord Haaf-Mersey's game once I 'beat' Dark Brotherhood with Mych. Maybe LHM will go to Solstheim out of curiosity or something.

Middas, 9:11 PM, 12th of Last Seed, 4th Era 202

Mychaonna the Ice Witch is now in ... um .... White River Watch, where she has cleared it of bandits. WRW is a cakewalk for her now that she's Level 46 in a lair which she probably originally passed through at Level 4 or 5. She's just using WRW as a place to sleep during the day though.

She is on her way to Solitude once again, where she will see about finding the real Titus Mede. He's supposed to be on some ship. Once she finds him, she gets to rid him of his Nirnly existence.

I think there will be some sort of plot-twist though. Like she won't actually be able to kill Mede, or Mede is the Night Mother, or something like this. smile.gif Something Bethesda-ish.
Acadian
It's interesting to follow Mycharonna because I'll probably never get to the Dark Brotherdude stuff in Skyrim. goodjob.gif
Renee
Dark Brotherhood is more like a TES4 questline in the sense that it seems like it's longer than some other TES5 quests. Right now Mych is pretty much focused on following the DB, even in a RP sense she has little desire to explore, get rich, find rare items, etc. She often walks by chests and coin sacks without touching them. What's the point? She's got Eternal Life, there's no rush to have all this extra stuff in her life. So for this reason she's unlike some of my others.

Bottom line: She's very focused on seeing what the Night Mother wants for her to become, so she's pretty much focused on the DB quests, and not much else. Despite this, it seems like it's taking forever to get to the conclusion of DB, whatever it may be. This is a good thing, though.

During both DBs (in 4 and 5) the Dark Brotherhood loses most of its members. In TES4, it's the character who is commanded (by Lucien) to kill them all. In TES5, they also mostly die, but it's because the Sanctuary gets raided. I don't think I've mentioned this before but when Mych returned to the Sanctuary near Falkreath the place was in ruins. There were a few stray soldier NPCs who had apparently just torn the DB to shreds, so Mych had to deal with these guys. After this, she found only two of the former DB members: a Redguard guy who gives out radiant quests and a child vampire.

This part of Dark Brotherhood was extremely bizarre. It featured a cut-scene during which the character (Mycharonna) stepped into the Night Mother's coffin and hid inside it. The screen went dark for a very long time after she did this. There was nothing but my dark TV screen, and the sound of water, so I assumed she was supposed to be in this coffin, floating away on some water. I also thought my Xbox was glitching perhaps! blink.gif I'd never seen anything like this in a game, unless it was glitching. I was thinking maybe I should turn the game off and start this part of the DB all over again, but then I thought this might be bad, since starting over would mean starting the entire Sanctuary raid sequence all over again.

So I just waited. Eventually we heard the sounds of those two NPCs (the child vamp and the Redguard) here and there. They were saying something like "Hmm, what is this here?" as if they were looking at the Night Mother's coffin, wondering what's inside.

At some point the Night Mother herself spoke to Mycharonna, then Mych somehow gets out of the coffin and tells Babette (child vamp) and the Redguard what just happened. Like I said, it was one of the weirdest videogame sequences I've ever seen, and I'm not entirely sure it wasn't partially some sort of glitch.

@Renee: It's okay, I forget sometimes that Solstheim was given to the Dark Elves after the Big Blow as a place to call home. I'm so used to the Solstheim of Treydog's fiction (and yes, the Skaal is present in one of the MW expansions - Blood on the Moon), where Nords and Imperials predominate.

I've never played anything earlier than TES IV, so what I know of MW is through the excellent writing of folks like Treydog and quite a few others.

@SubRosa: I am aware that in MW "Outlander" is an insult; however it somehow doesn't feel quite like that in TES V's Solstheim. And I agree, the Dunmer of Vvardenfell are just as racist/bigoted as the Nords of Skyrim. But as I see it, the Dunmer come to that from a persecution complex, while the Nords just think they're better than everybody else.

Back to Renee regarding Mych's experience in -- umm -- the NM's coffin. If it's a game glitch, roll with it! I love the challenges of including glitches into my RP/fan fictions - it makes things more fun and lively. One famous glitch I recall is mALX's Maxical glitching on the XBox, which led to some pretty wild stuff with Count Hassildor and Fathis Aren!

Yep, I did roll with it. It was so strange though. The Xbox started making some weird sounds, I think the disc drive actually kicked on during that cut-scene, and its fan kicked into high-speed. blink.gif Usually the disc drive is off at all times, except during game startup. I wonder if that part of the quest happens the same on PC. I kinda doubt it.

I think anybody who saw what I saw would start to get nervous, especially in today's climate of instant gratification, it just seems like most people would freak. I know I did.

Okay, I found an example of what I am talking about here, and it's from a PC game. And it's from an earlier part of DB than Mych encountered. See what I mean? It's rather bizarre. I almost think Beth should have put a 'do not turn your game off' message here. laugh.gif

Awesome! I agree some glitches can be cool, and you can work them into stories. Like there was one time my Crusader Knight guy went into a fort full of bandits, and none of them attacked him. It's like the attack script did not kick-in or something. I just RP'd that "finally" those heathenish bandits have seen the errors of their ways.

Renee, I’ve found the Night Mother’s coffin parts of the DB quests to be very glitchy. My first assassin Allek was on the PS3 during all of the early patch madness, and he got stuck in there several times (reloads) before the next part finally kicked in and got him through it. My assassin Neph on the PC experienced a long enough delay in there to make me really wonder what was going to happen, which was great because I’d been through the quests a year or so before. I think the water sounds are from the pool in the sanctuary where the coffin lands after getting thrown through the fancy window in the explosions. Congrats to Mycharonna on surviving that attack! That fire must have been upsetting for a vampire.

Acadian, I’m delighted that Buffy has found some friends in the Skaal. I personally love that village and the people there. (Though I’m not a big fan of their horker fashion sense. tongue.gif)

SubRosa, your idea of playing the grown-up kids has taken a turn in my (Mikke’s daughter’s) Sofie game. I took her on a walk to Riften to see what she was like, and I had a lot of things wrong. She does not want to go adventuring with her boring brother Alesan. She wants her Whiterun BFF, miss “there's nobody I won't fight” Braith. I figure they may have eventually befriended each other since they both have distracted or absent mothers and both like to fight. I made teen Braith as an NPC and stuck her inside Amren’s house. Sofie will have to do Amren’s favor quest in order to get in to recruit teen Braith. (I’m going to re-name child Braith and then ignore her.)

Sofie does not want to live with her brother in their childhood home. She wants a little cabin out somewhere in the woods. Maybe Lakeview as just the cabin. We’ll have to see. All I know is that after sleeping on the street in Windhelm out of necessity she is done with cities and done with snow.

Also Dante the husky is Alesan’s dog. The next time Sof passes through Whiterun he’s going to get left behind to chill out with his master in Breezehome.

SubRosa
Teen Braith looks amazing! Brilliant of Sofie to hook up with her to form the Dynamic Girl Duo. Now I am wondering what other kids are going to grow up to become adventurers?
Grits
Thank you! smile.gif I usually don’t go for beautiful, but I wanted Braith to look gorgeous as well as tough. I personally think that Redguards are the best looking Skyrim race, and damn I sure like the way Braith turned out. biggrin.gif I’m excited for Sofe to go on the road with her. I’ve been trying to remember my last female duo. Valdi and Serana are not going to be long-term pals, so they don’t really count. It might have been Zuuri and Uthgerd. They were awesome together.

Now I’m tempted to make a smokin’ hot Lars Battle-Born and take him to the Bards College. Lol. Of course he may move in with Alesan at Breezehome instead. Whiterun Grows Up, the series. laugh.gif

I wonder which of the other Skyrim kids will grow up and adventure like their parents, too! This has been way more fun than I would have imagined.

Yeah you know? .. Something odd about the way that one was coded or something.

Teen Braith looks kinda like Michonne from Walking Dead.

Captain Zanimal is headed to the Rift to do that thing he was supposed to do for Lord Harkon. Zanimal can no longer raise fallen enemies with his now weak spell so he needs a better one. He thought it unwise to show up back at the castle with an empty Chalice. Lord Harkon is not the sort of guy he wants to piss off. At least not without more backup.

He’s holed up for the day in an old fort. The first fort he found was full of mortal necromancers. Captain Z hates necromancers. He is admittedly an enthusiastic necromancer himself, but that’s different. He has the courtesy to also be undead.

An ancient dragon attacked on the road near Morthal before he reached the second fort. It was a frost dragon so Zanimal enjoyed the fight quite a bit. His fireballs lit up the dragon’s underbelly beautifully when it hovered overhead. If it had been using fire Shouts it would have been a different story.

The second fort provided a feast for Captain Z. Now he remembers what he likes so much about the landlocked Holds. The blood of Nords with very little fish in their diet.

Also he was attacked by a Dawnguard/Vigilant patrol (mod) when he exited the fort for some pre-dawn stargazing right before bed. They provided him with some more expensive weapons and another near-death experience. It was a good reminder of why he keeps Sheena around. He finds her chatter annoying, but she can really throw down in a fight.

Here’s a screenshot from the dragon battle when a second dragon flew overhead. Rather oddly it didn’t attack. And here’s one of the Zanimal executing a Vigilant vampire hunter with a "force feeding" combat bite. Note the flame cloak. That’s the Vigilant’s. The Zanimal goes all-in when it comes to a fight. Oh, and the innocent looking Imperial bow? Damn thing is an enchanted ‘silver’ somethingorother bow from the vampire mod. It hits hard. The Z had to scuttle like a cockroach to reach her between shots without dying. Very satisfying kill.
SubRosa
I love the wintery forest with the burning dragon, it is a wonderful contrast of color!

So Captain Z takes to the land. With Sheena Easton backing him up. At least he has those sugar walls to come home to... wink.gif
Acadian
I agree with SubRosa - that's a magnificent night shot of the dragon on fire, with the snow on the ground and trees contrasting against the starry night sky and another dragon above. And wow - those VigiVampire Hunters sound like they mean business and are very well equipped for their task!
Grits
I’ve really enjoyed experiencing Skyrim’s nights with vampire Zanimal. His predator vision makes a lot of contrast and brightens the colors a bit. Age has not diminished his sense of wonder, which makes him fun. In Solstheim he spent a lot of time watching the glowing netches float around through falling ash. He’s always looking up when he walks. Maybe staying in the moment is his way of not letting immortality overwhelm him.

It turns out that Captain Zanimal was right to avoid Lord Harkon’s court. His brother (Feran Sadri was Zanimal’s brother in life, and it was Feran who convinced him to become a member of the Volkihar clan) didn’t have any paralysis poison for sale, and his brother’s assistant didn’t have the Revenant spell tome that Zanimal is looking for. The assistant did have some other interesting spells, however. I had forgotten I have Daedra of Coldharbor active in the Zanimal’s game. I doubt if he will use the summoned daedra, though. The Zanimal loves to reanimate and hates reminders that when he goes to dust he will be Molag Bal’s bitch.

While Zanimal was “home” at the keep Lord Harkon revealed his plan to the clan. Captain Zanimal thinks he’s nuts. Also while he was at court Vingalmo tasked him with some business and that kid Serana announced that she was going to tag along. Great.

The Zanimal did have a brief chat with Serana before he took a nap in a real coffin for once. It sounds like she went through quite the ordeal on behalf of her parents. Zanimal does not really remember his parents, but he’s pretty sure they wouldn’t have offered him and Feran to the Prince of Rape in exchange for any kind of power. No wonder Serana is messed up. Now Zanimal might put up with a little more of her whining. This was funny to me because the Z is not very paternal, even for a vampire. I guess Serana is just that good at manipulating people.

It looks like Capt. Z might leave without even feeding on the thralls. He must really be disgusted with the current situation.

In old news while passing through Eastmarch Captain Z paid off a guard for killing Raven Rock (How did they know? Why do they care?! Or did Z eat some Eastmarch guards and I don’t remember ? ohmy.gif ) and recruited the Argonian Crook Tooth (one of my former character NPCs) to replace Stenvar. It’s a good idea to have an Argonian on the crew. Sheena and her sugar walls get to stay on board for a while. The captain took Crook Tooth dragon hunting on the way back to the ship, and the non-winged lizard passed the test. Also Crook Tooth laughs at Asrael’s constant bragging (conversations thanks to Follower Commentary mod), which is a major plus. The Zanimal likes his raiders to have a sense of humor.

So next the Bloodrunner will head to Dawnstar since Winterhold still hasn’t gotten their docks situated after the Great Collapse. The Zanimal wants his Revenant spell, and Julianos help the Conjuration trainer there if they don’t have it for sale. Serana can come along and ask her questions if she likes. Maybe some more idiots from Harkon’s court will try to ambush him like those two at the Redwater Spring. The Zanimal likes killing rival vampires as much as he likes killing necromancers. So that’s something to look forward to.

Here’s a screenshot from outside the skooma den they visited in the Rift. The Zanimal bought some quality skooma and watched over his raiders while they got baked. The next evening he missed his guess for the time and walked out into sunset. Thankfully he has the power to Invoke Fog for a few minutes, which in this case was long enough for him to stroll along under the trees while the sun went down. Being a higher-level modded vampire is pretty neat.
