I don't celebrate Memorial Day, but I did get my gun just in time!

I celebrate it cause I'm a big pro-military guy. I actually came SO close to enlisting in the Army but I got rejected due to my weight. Oh well wasn't meant to be I guess.
Anyway in other news:
A YouTuber I watch made a video and boy does it speak about how politics are ruining movies specially Star Wars.
https://youtu.be/c-M5suF0hisNo kidding.
I watched a little bit of it. Enough to disagree with almost everything the guy is saying. George Lucas was working on a higher plane? George Lucas was so much more incredibly creative than anyone else? Yeah, like the good old days when he gave us Ewoks? When he changed the first movie so Han fired second? Jar-Jar Binks? People just loved all that? George Lucas literally sold the entire franchise because he could not take how absolutely toxic his own fans had become.
The original trilogy of Star Wars movies were not masterpieces of cinema. They told a very simple story of one-dimensional black vs white morality that was easy for people to identify with, and had the very good timing of being released 5 years after the Vietnam War ended (and people were worn down the moral ambiguities of the real world). The writing was not great. The first movie was literally a remake of a Kurosawa film. The characters were neither original or especially well developed. Even the performances were not extraordinary. Alec Guiness literally hated being in Star Wars, because he was a real actor and he considered it to be tripe that was beneath him (but apparently the paycheck was worthy of him).
Some of the new movies are outstanding, yes I am looking at you Rogue One. Some are poor, yes I am looking at you Last Jedi. The same can be said for the originals, and the prequels. This franchise has always been very uneven at best. Saying that the current crop of filmmakers is inferior to George Lucas is ignoring a huge amount of hatred toward George Lucas. The fact is that a very large proportion of the Star Wars fanbase became extremely toxic long before Disney bought the franchise.
I myself never hated Lucas. If he wanted Ewoks, then it was his movie, he could have Ewoks. If he wanted Han to fire second, it's his movie, I never complained. Likewise I don't hate Rian Johnson. Though I do hope he never makes another Star Wars movie.
Nor do I hate that they are killing off the original characters. As I noted a long time ago, they literally have to do that. I am sorry, but a bunch of 70 year old's just cannot carry a franchise. It needs new blood, and for the new characters to rise, the old ones have to fall. The original trilogy did this when it killed off Obi-Wan, Tarkin, The Emperor, and Vader. They were the old guard, and they had to go for the new guard to rise. I didn't mind how they killed the one in The Force Awakens *no specifics 'cause spoilers*, nor even the one in Last Jedi. But I did not like how they handled Luke on the island during the Last Jedi. I think it was weak writing, and that it could have been done better.
