I eat largish salads most every supper. For years now I've topped 'em off with a selection of the more decadent dressings; blue cheese, Thousand Isle, several Ranch variants and so on. I've tried a number of supposedly saner alternatives but never cared for 'em.
Within the past two months I've begun to find my favorites repulsive. Problem is, I can't find anything to take their place. My most recent purchase, Balsamic Vinaigrette, is utterly tasteless. Raspberry Hazelnut Vinaigrette has little flavor, and that bland. What little flavor I do find in tends to be too sweet for me. (This holds true with my old favorites too. I usually try and counteract that with liberal doses of Franks RedHot Sauce. It helps, but isn't ideal.) As with most foods, I like something with a lot of "zest" to it but no sweetness, fruit and the preserves I spread on my morning buttered toast being exceptions. Oh, and milk of course. Think I'm gonna try an (Olive) Oil & Vinegar dressing next. My understanding is that some of those can be tasty but not sweet????? If anyone knows a yummy non sweet store-bought dressing let me know.

I like them sweet. In Germany the McDonalds salads came with "Paul Newman" dressing. I think the secret ingredient in his dressings was pure cane sugar in liberal amounts. I loved them!!!
Sometimes medications you take can dull your taste buds temporarily while you are on that medication. Since you have noticed your favorite dressings suddenly feel tasteless and you are dousing everything with hot sauce - most likely this is what is causing your salad dressing issue. It is possible they have a medicine that does the same thing without that side effect; you might ask if it is hindering your enjoyment of your meals.
Oh - and for a great non-sweet but sweet marmalade for your breakfast toast = kumquat marmalade. My Mom's neighbor used to make it in Florida; she had the kumquat tree in her yard. It was just the right amount of sweet and tart mixed for a perfect compliment to your breakfast.

Tested Newman's Own Olive Oil & Vinegar on tonight's salad. My first thought was that it was yet another largely tasteless dressing. Some bites later I began liking its mild flavor, while wishing it was zestier. I began to notice that, unlike pretty much all other dressings I've used, it actually complements and enhances the flavor of salad ingredients rather than bury them in an artificial taste of its own. I ended up enjoying tonight's meal better than any home-made salad I've eaten a quite some time. Of interest to me is that the bottle label states that the dressing needs no refrigeration. Other than cost, I'm giving it a solidly positive endorsement. I can see it becoming a staple.
Other news: Walmart has at last began stocking good quality Fuji apples again following a several month drought. Galas are bearable for the short-term, but I don't like them nearly so well. No other apples (within my budget) appeal to me. What I've been doing is buying peaches, which I like right well. Problem with those is, because they don't keep well once halved, I need to buy twice as many per week as I do Fuji's, 14 rather than 7. (I normally eat one Fuji a day, split between lunch and supper. Years ago I ate a whole Fuji at both meals but alas, food prices increased more rapidly than my available funds did.) In any case the Fuji's I bought this week are yummy...super film, super juicy, super sweet, just the way I like 'em.
After having cooked up several tasty batches of hard-boiled eggs in my new microwave oven egg boiling attachment, I seem to have lost my touch. I already reported grossly over-boiling one batch of eggs. Since then I boiled a batch whose yellows ended up the consistency of preserves. I threw those out. The batch I boiled this afternoon was cooked one minute longer and left in the switched-off microwave another two minutes or so for further cooking. Yet even this batch has slightly undercooked yellows. Not enough to toss 'em, but slightly too soft for me.

Well now I want to try that Newman's dressing after your endorsement!
On apples, I am so hooked on Washington Red Delicious - we used to get them from a store that went out of business and now none of the stores carry them.

I don't mind cooking with others, but just to eat an apple for enjoyment - haven't found another I like as well.
Your hard boiled egg story has kept me laughing. Put several eggs in a small pan that holds them UPRIGHT in the pan. My smallest pan holds 7 at a time. Cover in cold water and bring to boil - I usually add a dash of salt at this point, but it is up to you if you want to. I think it makes the water boil quicker and possibly enhances the flavor of the eggs (yes, flavor can seep through the shells)
** I don't ever use over a "Medium-High" on my cookware. From the time I put it on the stove (cold) it takes 23 minutes for the eggs to be done perfectly, but everyone's stoves are different in how fast they bring it to the boil.
Once it is at a boil, set the timer for 17 minutes. When the timer goes off, drain the hot water out and run cold tap water over the eggs till they are covered. Wait a minute, then dump that water and run cold water over the eggs again. When the eggs are cool you can peal them and they will be perfectly done (plus the shells will peel freely and easily)

I think it's worth at least a try. Had it again last night. As before, the first couple of bites were sort of bland. Then the flavor kicked in and the rest of the salad was yummy. From my admittedly short-term evaluation I recommend taking the "does not need refrigeration" labeling to heart. I see it as a room-temperature dressing rather than something to pore on cold. It does, for me, have something of a lingering aftertaste. In this case that's not a bad thing.
Today's Fuji apple is super tasty, best I've had in months.
Haven't had a sit-down restaurant meal since early in the year thanks to TMJ. Can't say I miss it all that much as I never eat many meals out in the best of circumstances. Zero to one a month is my norm, two tops on a rare month. I do want to be far enough along it treatment (hopefully done with it) to eat T-day and Xmas morning meals-out with my brother.

Something of a sad update for me. Something I could have mentioned earlier but wanted to be more sure before reporting it. Something that, hopefully, applies to no one here besides me.
It looks as if I will be forced to abandon the Newman Oil & Vinegar dressings whose taste I recently grew so fond of. Why? It appears to be a migraine trigger. I noticed my head "buzzing" on the right side after using it on my salad for the first time Tuesday evening. Once could be a coincidence, and in any case my head ached mildly but did not progress to a full fledged migraine. I did not require medication but simply waited it out. Wednesday evening I again developed a slightly achy head (right sided) following supper, but this was even milder than the night before. It too eventually cleared on its own without need of medication. Last night (Thursday) I yet again developed a head ache some time after supper, again mild, but stronger than the day before. However, I woke this morning to what was definitely the beginnings of a true migraine. Took one Zomig tablet well before breakfast. Migraine symptoms gradually faded. Even now, mid morning, a slight "buz" remains, along with tenseness on the right side of my neck. This is the first time I've needed a Zomig in a good while. I must now sadly assume that the Newman dressing is indeed the culprit and forgo it. I still recommend it to those not subject to food-triggered migraines.
Not sure why this particular dressing bothers me while some others I consider far more questionable (migraine wise) don't. Life is strange, I reckon.

I have the same exact thing happen when I drink wine, even a small sip of it. While shopping for groceries yesterday I decided to buy a can of Campbell's Chunky Spicy BBQ Seasoned Chicken with Beans. I do no normally buy full-strength Campbell's soup, but only their Healthy Select soups. If nothing else, almost all those full strength soups contain MSG, a no-no for a migraine sufferer like me. To my surprise, this particular full strength soup doesn't.
I had it for lunch. First thing I noticed on opening the can was that, as feared, it was mostly heavy broth with some beans and chicken cubes added in, rather a hearty combo of meat and beans with a bit of added sauce as the label shows. Then there's the taste. Being BBQ, I expected some sweetness. But this was overpoweringly sweet. Way too sweet for me. Far sweeter than the peach I had for dessert.
The other week I splurged and bought a jar of WowButter, to eat at those rare times I can't bring myself to prepare a more elaborate meal. I really shouldn't have bought it, but every now and then get an urge for a peanut butter sandwich, another migraine no-no. In my estimation WowButter tastes VERY like the real thing, certainly as close in flavor to peanut butter as some competing brands of peanut butter are to each other. It's a tad on the sweet side for me, but a smidgen of sea salt added in counterbalances that. This is a product I'd recommend anyone who likes peanut butter but is allergic to nuts or, like me, must avoid migraine trigger-foods.

What I have been eating this past week: Orange Marmalade! A lady I have played ESO with over the past year plus sent me a box of her homemade jams and marmalades in thanks for some armor I made for her characters in game!
After an initial several hours of nervousness over eating something sent to me by someone I met over the internet (and while the Orange Marmalade chilled in the refrigerator) I tried it out - AWESOME! DELICIOUS !!!!!!! So for the past week I have had Orange Marmalade on everything but the kitchen sink. It is gone now, but we just opened up her Boysenberry Marmalade. It is delish too; but of course can't compete with Orange Marmalade!
Anyway, she sent us enough homemade jams to last the winter out; and last year she sent me a batch of her favorite recipes to try out, all very good stuff! She is a very, VERY sweet woman, and an excellent cook/preserver!
So that is what I'll be eating for some time to come,

Didn't feel up to fixing anything for myself come suppertime yesterday, so drove to our local Subway and ordered a 12" tuna sandwich on wheat with American cheese, onion, tomato, olives, lettuce, four hot peppers, and shaken pepper. There was a time, quite a few years ago, when "our" Subway made a scrumptious "dry" tuna. Then the company came down on them for not using the ordained tuna-to-mayo ratio. It's been much "wetter" since then, and in my opinion not nearly as good. It's still edible except when they make it "too" wet, as often happens, in which case I order something else.
For whatever reason I found last night's sammich pretty rancid. Ended up tossing a good fourth/third of it in the trash. Thinking back, I've been at least mildly disappointed with every Subway sammich purchase these past several months, possibly longer. None taste as good, to me, as they used to.
Even last night's napkins, if they can be called that, disappointed. In ancient days they carried a very robust napkin. One of those would normally last an entire meal and still be in decent shape. They've gone through a number of degradations since then, each succeeding variant being less substantial than its immediate predecessor. Last night's napkins, which I'd not seen before, seem little better than tissues. One or two month wipes and they were pretty well worthless.
I might give up on Subway for good. Truth to tell, several deli-made sammiches kept in a cold-bin near that section in our closest Walmart are cheaper and, in my opinion, taste better. They definitely give ya appreciably more (and tastier?) meat per sammich, at least so far as turkey and ham go. There are downsides. Most of those cold-bin sammiches are on some variant of white bread, which I'm no great fan of. Also, toppings are limited to cheese and lettuce. Doesn't bother me all that much. I can add tomato slices and mustard (or some other dressing) once home. In any case I think Walmart will be a more than adequate replacement for the fallen Subway.

I too used to like the "dryer" tuna subs at Subway that I can no longer get; agree what they are mixing these days is too wet for my taste; and also agree that for the past couple years Subway fare seems to have gone downhill overall.
What I have started doing rather than the cold cut pre-made sammies on white bread is to pick up a loaf of fresh baked specialty bread from the grocery store bakery, go to the grocery store deli and have them hand slice whatever meats and cheeses I want on it (to the thickness I specify); pick up a head of lettuce and a tomato; some oil and vinegar. It is ALWAYS delish; only takes minutes to create my own sub that way, and I usually have enough leftover to make one for my son or for me the next day.

Once Walmart has better sandwiches than Subway, I think it´s safe to say Subway has gone way south indeed

Sad though. Not fun when something you like degrades like that.

It really is.

Subway has been hit or miss for for a while now. The only thing that's consistent is the cold cut combo.

That is the one I get too - with the pepperjack cheese. I stopped getting the tuna when they changed the formula to slurpy urpy. I love a good meatball sub, but theirs never seems to pass the muster.

I like your style.
Cold cut, pepperjack, lettuce, green peppers, banana peppers, subway vinaigrette. Never toasted.

I was partial to the Spicy Italian for some years, but it just ain't what it used to be. Not sure why. Its ingredients are, on the surface, the same as they've ever been.

They probably changed the source of their meat products or something.

I know, right? Something is different, but nothing I can point out to say that they have changed
this. I think it is just the quality of meat they are buying now (as in "USDA Select" instead of "USDA Choice.") I've noticed the grocery stores had turned to the "Select" and then suddenly came out with a new system that disguised the fact that they had lowered the quality of the meat. (One of the reasons I will NEVAH buy meat in Walmart stores. If you read the label, they are all 6% tenderizing liquids, meaning they are buying older/cheaper meat).
The grocery stores used to sell "Choice" and for a fairly large difference you could buy "Prime" from the Deli counter. "Select" was only sold as a sale/discount item - I used to buy it for my dog's treats.
Now the store is selling "Select" at the price they used to sell "Choice;" and now the "Choice is the price "Prime" used to be - and you can't get the "Prime" anymore in the grocery store here. I have to search out private deli stores for good prime butchered meat anymore; and they have either been run out of business by the prices around them or become elite snob-shops that no one can really afford to buy from (instead of the great corner butcher shops they used to be).

Mine is the Cold Cut with Pepperjack; Lettuce, Green Peppers, Black Olives; and just a dash of the Subway Vinaigrette. I do have them toast the bread before they put the cheese on so the cheese is delightfully melted just a touch before the (cold) meat is added.
Normally I love tomatoes, but not the ones Subway gets (which are tasteless) so I don't bother getting them on my sammie there.

Dang, pretty similar! Agree on tomatoes. I've never had a good, fast food, tomato.

Ditto. I think Wendy's came close once, but it didn't last. And I live near Grainger County Tennessee; which is nationally recognized for its tomatoes. There is no excuse for any food place in this area not having the best tomatoes on their menu items.
Now, I do understand it is a franchise and normally insists their franchises use the standard products they order for all their shops, but those franchises do make exceptions to all of that in certain places like Europe; so there is no reason they can't accommodate a better quality tomato if it is grown in the immediate area and would cost them less than shipping them across country.
I normally buy (or grow) the tomatoes myself, then when I get the fast food item home I put my own tomato on it.
