Speaking of spicy, Khajiit discovered a while back that reducing the amount of bell pepper by half of what you would normally do, and adding two Serrano peppers gives Cajun dishes a real kick!

That would be interesting to read about, but ... have you ever tried to put something heavy on your stomach after working out? Milk feels heavy to me at all times, like a meal in a glass. (and I drink the 1% or the skim!).
Found a commercial with an NBA player’s explanation of it:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=d4MqrgBnEj4Granted he was probably told this information by the milk people and he just parroted it in a commercial for an extra paycheck, but it seems reasonable.

Due to tooth extraction last Tuesday I was forced to alter my diet somewhat, to avoid crunchy foods. No fresh veggie salads. No apple desserts. Bought grapes to get me by until I can chew apples again. Bought V-8 as a far from ideal sub for fresh veggies. For the first some days I lunched on "cream of..." soups, then reverted to my normal soup choices. Am back to veggie salads now, but must be very careful to eat on one side of my mouth. No apples yet. Boy have I been guzzling milk more so than normal! Don't like water with grapes, and for me milk is the only allowable alternative. Am hoping I'll be more or less back to normal by week's end.?.?
It likely goes without saying that one of my rare restaurant lunches has been out of the question. In fact I've worn my upper partial only once since the extraction, during Thurday's brief post-extraction dental checkup. (Gum swelling around the extraction makes wearing it less than pleasant. That said, I'll wear it during today's grocery run.)

I'm back eating pretty much everything I did pre tooth extraction. Still need to be careful with apples. No salad croutons yet, but those are such an extreme rarity for me they hardly count.
My next hurtle is figuring out how effectively I'll now be able to tear food without my upper partial in place. (I almost never wear it during meals at home.) I've an overbite just pronounced enough to make tearing food via my front teeth with the partial in place somewhat inefficient. Being as I do the bulk of my tearing with side teeth, why bother leaving all that metal and plastic in place during meals? But I now have one less side tooth to tear with...unless I wear my partial. I've been doing okay without it so far, confining myself to tearing on the right side. But I wanna know how well I'll be able to tear on the left. That remains to be seen. Need to heal up more before attempting it.

Some successes:
Mary's Chili Verde (Hormel brand). Very good canned chili. It's now my favorite canned chili. If you dine on canned chili I recommend giving it a try.
Wishbone Avocado Oil dressing. Tried this with some apprehension. First few bites tasted decidedly odd. I then acclimated myself to the taste. Like it reasonably well. Well enough to add it to my roster of salad dressings.
Wishbone French Dressing. Haven't had French is ages. Never much cared for it. First salad I used it on tasted meh. Second salad was much better. It too makes the roster.
Am now adding chopped Jalapeno to my salad suppers. It improves their flavor ever so much. Don't know why I didn't think to add them before. They're certainly cheap enough, and yummy.

Keep forgetting to mention, prolly because I'd rather not dwell on it, that for the last month or so I've been having an eight ounce serving of V8 and a half apple for lunch twice a week. Thing is, I'm no fan of V8. Those lunches are made tolerable only by the apple.

Yeah, I'm no fan of its sodium content either. Seems to me there is or was a low-sodium variant for name brand product. I buy the Walmart equivalent due to cost. Not sure it has a low-sodium version. Had one of my rare restaurant meals today, not because I especially craved decadent food, but to test my upper partial which needed to be altered following tooth loss. Chose the only restaurant I ever dine at any more, one of two all-you-can-eat Chinese buffets. (Americanized Chinese of course. So far as I know, there are no true oriental eateries in my neck of the woods natives to that part of the world would recognize as such.) The good news, despite the partial now coming loose when I bite down on my finger, during today's meal it remained solidly in place without a hint of loosening. It also remained in place during the one meal I tested it with at home...a Wowbutter sammich and half apple. I do not normal eat with my partial in at home. Why bother? I have enough of my own teeth to chew effectively, and there's one less thing to clean after meals.
The Buffet recently remodeled its interior. This was my first meal there since work finished. I couldn't care less about the redesign one way or other. But...the offerings all looked especially yummy in their trays, and tasted better than they have for quite some time. Was more pleased today's meal than I have been since the restaurant changed hands years ago. A good sign, I hope.
Have I mentioned I now add half a Jalapeno, finely diced, to each supper salad? They improve those meals ever so much. I recall buying Jalapenos years ago but stopped for some reason. No idea why.

The problem here is that you are drinking the V8 while eating an apple. The tastes don't combine. Try drinking the V8 juice with Wow-Butter spread on a celery stalk. THAT goes with the V8 very well, and improves the flavor of the whole meal. Meanwhile, the apple can be eaten with some other meal to enhance it.
And the Jalapeno in your salad,

You are either burning your taste buds away; or trying hard to taste anything because they are already burned out, lol. Try mincing Jalapeno up into baked beans and cornbread = mmm.
So glad you are able to eat again after that tooth extraction, that had to be a suffering period for you! I put a little bit of cayenne powder in it, but not too much. Just enough to give it some zest. But not enough to burn. I use Carroll Shelby's chili kit. It has a little thing of cayenne, and I use half of it.
The beef it was really makes it though. I don't use hamburger. I buy stir fry beef or failing that stewing beef. Fry it up, then dice it fine and throw it in the crock pot. I add in a big link of Kielbasa (I am a polack after all!), plus mushrooms, diced tomatoes, and red beans (not chili beans).
