I was going to say that I've never seen that in Winny10, but I remembered that I have the Professional Edition. Much less bloatware, and I removed what was left of the stock apps with Power Shell.
Sakiri
And it's not pop ups. Its stuff in between apps in my Start menu, and I had a couple in the tiles before I turned it off the very first time I booted the computer.

Yeah I'm using Home Edition. I had no choice in OS or I'd have stuck with 7.

Regarding my issue with Duke Nukem 3D CTD-ing at certain points playing in Millennium. Could it be a memory issue that does it? It always crashes at specific points and unless I go to those specific points in a map, the game doesn't crash.

Just a thought.

When first released Skyrim used to crash (at one certain spot in one certain Dwemer ruin) every single time before Bethesda patched out what was causing it; and Fallout: New Vegas did after the player did certain quests to a certain stage of those quests = so is it possible your Duke nukem 3D game is unpatched? Look up just the CTD at that location on Google and see if there is any known issues and fixes for it.

Found a link to Steam forum where they kinda talked about my problem. I'll see if I can copy someone's settings and maybe stabilize the game that way. Otherwise I'll try to look up a patch I downloaded, but it requires WinZip that may be expired on my computer.

Sigh. All this trouble just to casually blast monsters away every now and then only because I'm bored tongue.gif

Install game on Win7 PC, set compatibility mode for ME, profit.

No problem is unsolveable, I'm just not sure what to do here. Also, I'm not sure how far I am willing to go for just this issue seeing how there are issues with other games as well.

I really do need my old puter back.

Can the old one be repaired?

Sakiri
Finding someone to repair a 3.1 computer might be a pain in the butt.
mirocu
Saki answered mALX's question tongue.gif

If my computer guy really cared, I think it could be done. But I think he's just gonna try the most basic/easiest things and when they fail all I'll get is "Sorry, bruh"

Somehow I thought the earlier models would be easier to work on, lol. I had an old HP 10 gig with Windows 98 on it that even I could fix, lol.

Sakiri
If it needs new parts, getting those parts may be difficult.

Oh, I see what you mean. Obsolete parts.

Sakiri
Yeah. And it sounds like Miro needs new parts. sad.gif

A lot of those old computers used proprietary parts, too. Meaning even harder to replace.

Whew. Beginning a reply in another thread here several minutes ago my keyboard responded so sluggishly even my decrepit figures easily outpaced it. Molasses slow. I made it through that reply but needed to see what was up and fix it pronto. Thankfully, a restart set things to rights. All's well again keyboard wise.

I haven't been able to read the forums for 24 hours, urgh. Yesterday I suddenly stopped getting my email notices from here; but at least when I came here I could see the forums.

Today I got email notices, but when I clicked the link to view the posts it brought me to the first page of the thread instead of the current post; and I started getting page errors (see image link below). Anytime I tried to open any of those long list of links to see a post it gave me a "Missing Files" error message (see lower image in the below link):

https://imgur.com/a/c7xriNZ

Acadian says no one else is having the issues; there have been no other complaints. He had me try a different browser to test it (I use Google Chrome). So I tried Mozilla Foxfire and it worked just fine; so is Google Chrome the issue?

I remember having this issue a couple years ago, but don't remember how it was fixed at the time.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? I have already tried cleaning my PC = deleting all cookies, cleaning out all TMP files, reset my firewall so it would have to "relearn" anything it might consider a threat, and ran a virus scan. I also restarted the PC. The problem still remains after all that.

Not sure if it is related; but for two days (before this started) I had trouble opening my email; it kept throwing a "10A" error message. Not sure if that is related or not. I did file a complaint form with Google Chrome, but haven't heard anything from that yet.

Can anyone help?

Acadian
All I can add, mALX, is what we already talked about via PM. That is, when I navigated chrorrol and tested its e-mail subscription features while on Firefox it all worked fine. So I did the same on Chrome and that worked fine as well. kvleft.gif

Maybe it is just the Display Mode you have the thread set to? If you look up to where it says Add Reply and New Topic in the upper right, just under that is Options. Click on that and under it you have a bunch of options. Try setting it Standard, if it is not already.

Here is a pic

Google won't give support.

I've been trying to get back into one of my gmail accounts for a year and they won't acknowledge me.

My 2 factor auth is set to an old phone number and I can't log in. I keep getting login attempt security alerts I can't check because I can't log in.

Yeah, when I moved and had no way to ge back to my old email = couldn't get the "verifications" everyone was sending = Steam handled it in minutes; and this site handled it quickly. ESO took 3 weeks; and TESAlliance has not fixed it yet, even though I was a paying member for three years!

They don't let you change your email without verifying at the old email that it is you; even if you have the password and give them a security question correctly.

Steam recognized its own software and some code or something they put in their files on your PC tells them who it is. I had less problems with them than anyone else.

Sakiri
In my case, the email was a junk email I used to sign up for garbage so it's not like I'm missing anything, but I'd still like to get back into it.

I can change emails with anything I do use regularly without needing to get into the old one.

Blizzard is fabulously good with changing stuff like this. They changed my account address with a simple photo.

The predictable crashes I've been having in Duke Nukem 3D are now gone. Turned out it was a sound issue where a certain echo effect was playing that caused it. Thanks to a small patch that altered the .exe file the game now runs great again!

And ghastley can now breathe a sigh of relief. No longer will he get desperate PM:s from me. Unless, of course, I pursue the issue in Red Baron where sound isn't playing at all.... biggrin.gif

Was without internet and phone yesterday from before waking until around thirty minutes prior to preparing supper. Cause? I suspect storms that moved through the area during the night.

My PC has suddenly stopped showing images on this site. Instead it gives a little icon showing there is an image there; but it can't be opened. If I go to my email box and look at the email notice for the post, I can see the image there - just not while looking at the posts on here. Anyone know how to fix this?

Now it's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum and we're all out of gum. Speaking of Duke Nukem saw this oldie but goodie Duke Nukem vs South Park.

It sounds like an issue with your browser. If it is Internet Explorer, I think there is a Show Pictures option in it. Look under Options -> Advanced -> Multimedia. That might be turned off.

Hmmm. It is set at "Show all images." So far the only site I seem to have a problem seeing images on is this site; but then again...don't go very many places online other than here. I know that I can see the images in my email notices that are posted on here; but when I get on here to see them there is an icon showing that a picture is there, but no way to open it. It isn't doing it on the linked images, only the ones embedded.

I don't really know. But I would not delete anything I was not sure of.
haute ecole rider
Does Avast let you see what those files are? And does it give you an option to isolate/quarantine them in a separate folder outside of the system folder/library?

It’s how I used to test questionable files I would find while spring cleaning my Mac - stick ‘em in a folder and run the Mac for a while. If no problems, delete ‘em. If problems, put ‘em back in.
Lopov
It doesn't let me see the files but the description below says:

Windows setup files are used to install Windows or modify its current installation. If you don't plan to ever reinstall or modify your Windows installation, you can delete these files to free up space.

Me personally will never reinstall or modify Windows because I don't know how to do it, but what if something (bad) happens and Windows will need to be reinstalled by let's say a friend of mine, then these files would be missing and he couldn't install Windows?
SubRosa
As long as you have the install disc you can always install off of that.

Why is it that alluvasudden some videos on youtube no longer has the 720p option for me?

Outdated browser you say? Well, my parents' computer has the very same one and all videos on that computer can be shown in 720. And shouldn't that option be missing on all videos if my browser couldn't handle it?

Mind you, not all videos miss that option. It's mostly when playing music videos in any form but I can still watch Ashen (and other vids) in 720.

Most odd. I certainly haven't noticed that on my end. When you say they are missing the 720p option, I assume you mean 720p and above?
