Wait... this game has horse armor?!

When you upgrade your mounts skills to a certain point your mounts get some cosmetics. Saddlebags for capacity, boots/foot wraps for speed, and armour for stamina.

Oh joy! Mira just bought a stamina upgrade for Empress!

This may or may not matter to some, but the elk mount's appearance cannot be changed. That is, it comes as is and will not respond to hide horse equipment options. Nor will it change as you go above 20 in any of the mount training you pay for. So the way it looks out of the box is the way it stays. The official forums are a bit miffed about that as well as the big price tag.

There is also frustration on the forums about a couple other recent crown store items:

The Frostcaster motif requires mimic stones but only comes with 5 of them - not even enough to craft one full set.

The crown festival hood cannot be dyed and does not so advise prospective purchasers.

I saw folks complaining about these things and, sure enough Zenimax came onto the threads in each case and confirmed.

Wait... this game has horse armor?!

Once per every 20 hours you can go to any stables and pay them to "Feed your horse" or "Train your Mount," or "Take Riding Lessons." = it is all the same thing, they just keep changing the name of what it is called.

It costs 250 in game gold per each time.

Capacity: When you feed your horse for capacity, it adds to how much That Character can carry. After 20 "Feedings," or "Lessons" - saddlebags will suddenly appear on your horse:

http://i.imgur.com/SNOYBIj.png

Capacity is the only one that effects the player; the others are for the horse. If you feed in Speed, your horse will get faster (YEAH !!!) and after 20 "Lessons" your horse comes out with this awesome armor type thing:

http://i.imgur.com/Rh1Vh0e.png

Feeding for Stamina makes it so when an enemy hits you or your horse, it doesn't immediately rear up and dump you. Misa has her stamina fed up to 60 and can be hit numerous times while riding before Puffy finally has had enough and dumps her to head back to the stables!

After 20 "Lessons" your horse gets a face plate that is ugly as sin; but you can hide it in "Escape/Settings/Gameplay/Hide Horse Armor Stamina" - which is why I don't have a screenshot showing it. You can probably find one on the internet somewhere, but most people hide them = because they are ugly, lol.

Here is a screenshot of one:

http://s30.postimg.org/s4vsvdjfl/maxed_rid...skill_horse.png

(You can also hide your own helmet here if you want to see your characters face and hair but still gain the benefit of wearing a helmet = "Escape/Settings/Gameplay/Hide Helmet." )

Misa always has a helmet on, but no one can ever see it; they see her face and hair. (It also hides costume hats though, so you need to change the settings if you are wanting to wear a hat).

Aww, Khajiit just looked it up and didn't think it was that bad... for some characters. Others will be using the hide function (like Feng), but Mira will probably leave it visible on Empress when she gets one. This one thinks adding customizable barding and caparisons for those who would like such a thing would be cool.

I agree with what you said about customize-able. That would really be nice, and in fact - wish the Crown Store would sell some unique horse armor upgrades for all three ones - I mean other than the Alliance armors, of course.

Yeah, something like the alliance bardings except you could perhaps smith (or tailor or leatherwork) the set yourself in the various styles and leave off pieces as it suited your taste.

HOLY COW !!!! You should suggest this to Zenimax, either on the official site or Via the in game communication with them !!!! What a fantastic idea !!!!

Lol, well this one is sure that if crazy Khajiit thought of it, surely one of the smart people over at ZOS thought of it too. Perhaps they haven't figured out a way to apply the idea. It is a good idea though. MMOs are about expressing your character to other players through the game, so everything about your character should be fully customizable.

Many of their ideas come from suggestions or what they see people want or complain about wanting most.

So question about Magicka. Do you have to have a staff equipped to use spells or are staves simply melee weapons? Can we use, say, a battleaxe, and still cast spells?

I can cast spells from skill lines (like my Class skills/Fighters or Mages Guild skills, etc) no matter what weapon I am carrying; but if the spell is attached to your weapon skill line then = probably need to have that item equipped at the time to use its spells.

Did you delete him 3 times?

Lol, well he was the original character this one made to get the Imperial Pack. We then decided to start Feng out to get the Khenarthi Red dye. Deleted the first incarnation to start fresh, then the second because this one wanted to change something about his appearance.

You know - you can make another character while you wait; you can have 8 characters at once. Then when you see the option to delete come back up in the lower right of your screen - go ahead then and delete the offending character.

By the way, if you delete a character that you have fed your horse Stamina on - you lose that 250 gold. It is character specific.

If you have all 8 characters used up and all three deletes used and it has been longer than 24 hours after the last one you deleted = go into your chatbox and type in:

/bug

That brings up a screen to contact the maintenance team. Let them know it has been over 24 hours and it is not resetting the ability to delete.

Acadian, thanks for the news about the elk mount and new hats. These are things that would be very disappointing to learn after the sale. I appreciate the heads up.

The only reason I was going to buy a hat was to dye it red, d'oh! I saw a statement that the hats would be dyeable after the February update, which of course does not help with the red Christmas hat I was planning.

My main concern with the elk was if it would have a smooth gait like the horses or a rolling gait like the bears and camels. From the videos I've seen, it looks smooth to me.

As you know, Buffy is permawelded to Superian as far as a mount choice. And since the palomino is too hard to get, I think we'll stay with the black with white mane/tail/feet. There's lots more history/Buffy lore supporting that choice anyway. Besides, being a gurl possessed of PhantomicDragonPower, Superian can change her coat if she wants. biggrin.gif

I've seen a couple elk mounts and they are beautifully impressive. Folks on the official forums are calling Zenimax lazy because the elk moves/idles/acts/rides just like a horse. Sounds like that is good news for you however. I will say riders look much better sitting on the elk with their legs fully down than they do with their knees up in their chests like on most mounts. So I would take the 'copy a horse' for the elk as good news also.

Wish we could "gift" mounts to people. We have the palomino but prefer the white Imperial horse. Perhaps if Khajiit ever makes a Templar character they will use the palomino. Mira's Empress is a white Imperial horse.

Khajiit was just browsing the hats and costumes available and he couldn't help but notice a serious lack of piratical headgear. They've got the pirate outfits but no swank hats to go with them! Not even a head scarf/bandana!

Awesome! What it is: Instead of having a separate slot for hats/helmets, they use the same slot the hair uses. It really irks me, lol. That is why I went into settings/gameplay and chose "hide helmet" - so Misa always has hair, and her costume hats don't show unless I change that setting.

FYI guys, this one thinks the Gamepad interferes with the friend request and mail system. Last night Khajiit was trying to send Monkey and Buffy some mail but it wouldn't autocomplete their names in the username field. We also noticed that typing in the mail part was iffy so we turned off the gamepad and everything started working fine! Names autocompleted and we were able to send friend requests to those Khajiit couldn't get out before.

Gonna have to agree with you there. The higher level armor in the basic styles is far too ornate for my taste, with the majority of Medium armor just plain looking bad to me. Sigil spam everywhere, not to mention the garish default colors of some of the Veteran/CP materials.

I never liked helmets in TES, though, so there's that. :V

The leather is a bit too shiny and new for my taste, I kind of like rough worn tanned leather without the gloss. Something that looks like it's been in many battles, but been well cared for too.

So is it feasible to wear lower tier gear at higher character levels?

Sure, it just won't offer your character the proper level of protection.

If an enemy kills you and it is due to your armor being too low for your character; the summary of your death will name that as the cause on the screen where it tells you a replay of what happened and offers you the options to resurrect.

My bank mule/crafter character Bubba had actually leveled up so fast during the Witches Festival that I didn't realize he had out-leveled his armor by such an extreme amount until the summary told me his death in a fight was directly due to his armor being way under level (it was level 24; he was level 44).

So I really quickly updated his armor and weapons, def made a difference.

** Instead of doing that, which puts your character at risk for just the appearance - just use a costume from your collections and no matter what your armor looks like - you will have the proper protection and all anyone will see will be the costume.

Misa wore her Dark Seducer costume right up until she started wearing the Song of Lamae 160 Bosmer style armor - it looked pretty enough that she was able to shelve the costume.

Yeah, Misa got to CH level 110 wearing level 26 armor, (but that was back before One Tamriel) - I happened to notice she was suddenly squishy and updated her armor to Morihaus. She looked a bit clownish, so I put her costume on her - but the updated armor made a huge diff in how much more durable she was.

Oh, and another good reason to wear costumes = if you PvP in Cyrodiil, the people attacking you have NO idea what kind of armor you have on. It sometimes kind of makes them a bit skitterish to engage you at first, which gives you a chance to stun them quickly.

So are the costumes in the crown store available from in game sources?

In game sources = yes; but not in game resources. You also get costumes for some quest rewards; and don't forget the disguises you get in some quests work too. Just put one copy of them in the bank and pick up another to wear in the quest so you will have the disguise later. Some of them are really cute!

And I also have two that are morphs that still give you armor coverage - one turns my character into a goblin, the other a skeleton = both of those were from quests; the goblin from Stonefalls and the skeleton from Shadowfen.

Oh so the costumes in the Crown Store can be acquired as quest rewards?

No, different ones. Like the Dark Seducer, Golden Saint, the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild ones - the Wrothgar bear head ones, etc. The goblin and skeleton morphs, etc - those are all quest rewards.

The disguises for quest rewards are the ones you are supposed to put on to blend in with enemies - there are a large number of these in quests throughout the game. Every time I come across one, I put a copy of it in the bank and pick up another one, because when the quest is over they won't be available anymore. When you are doing the quest, if any enemy spots you and sees through your disguise, the disguise disappears - but after the quest is over you can wear that disguise indefinitely (if you have managed to smuggle one to your bank), and some of them are very cute.
