This may or may not matter to some, but the elk mount's appearance cannot be changed. That is, it comes as is and will not respond to hide horse equipment options. Nor will it change as you go above 20 in any of the mount training you pay for. So the way it looks out of the box is the way it stays. The official forums are a bit miffed about that as well as the big price tag.
There is also frustration on the forums about a couple other recent crown store items:
The Frostcaster motif requires mimic stones but only comes with 5 of them - not even enough to craft one full set.
The crown festival hood cannot be dyed and does not so advise prospective purchasers.
I saw folks complaining about these things and, sure enough Zenimax came onto the threads in each case and confirmed.
Wait... this game has horse armor?!
Once per every 20 hours you can go to any stables and pay them to "Feed your horse" or "Train your Mount," or "Take Riding Lessons." = it is all the same thing, they just keep changing the name of what it is called.
It costs 250 in game gold per each time.
Capacity: When you feed your horse for capacity, it adds to how much
That Character can carry. After 20 "Feedings," or "Lessons" - saddlebags will suddenly appear on your horse:
http://i.imgur.com/SNOYBIj.pngCapacity is the only one that effects the player; the others are for the horse. If you feed in Speed, your horse will get faster (YEAH !!!) and after 20 "Lessons" your horse comes out with this awesome armor type thing:
http://i.imgur.com/Rh1Vh0e.pngFeeding for Stamina makes it so when an enemy hits you or your horse, it doesn't immediately rear up and dump you. Misa has her stamina fed up to 60 and can be hit numerous times while riding before Puffy finally has had enough and dumps her to head back to the stables!
After 20 "Lessons" your horse gets a face plate that is ugly as sin; but you can hide it in "Escape/Settings/Gameplay/Hide Horse Armor Stamina" - which is why I don't have a screenshot showing it. You can probably find one on the internet somewhere, but most people hide them = because they are ugly, lol.
Here is a screenshot of one:

Misa always has a helmet on, but no one can ever see it; they see her face and hair. (It also hides costume hats though, so you need to change the settings if you are wanting to wear a hat).
