Teaser information unravelled here. If it's true, it could potentially be very interesting.

Hmm, makes me think that maybe it involves the Enclave, who else would be so interested in vault dwellers?

Presuming this isn't just an exquisitely detailed hoax, it sounds really interesting and has made me hope an official announcement is coming.

Also, is it at all perverse that the thing I'm looking forward to the most with this game is Obsidian's sequel?

I would say so. But for me Fallout NV was broken as hell. And then it got worse when they patched it. By the time they were done with it masochists were calling it too painful laugh.gif

But since it's undoubtedly for the newer consoles and PC, my interest is pretty much academic.

I hope it is Obsidian does get a sequel. They had some difficulty with Bethsoft's engine but their game was no more broken than Oblivion or FO3, which both had game breaking bugs at launch. I actually preferred FO:NV to FO3 personally. Anyone who has ever fired a gun can appreciate the improved mechanics and ability to upgrade weapons in New Vegas.

I loved New Vegas. I also loved Fallout 3 but for me New Vegas was a step forward in terms of game mechanics. They added a lot to the game like reloading, weapon mods, more detailed crafting, and multiple ammunition types. This mirrors real life much better than FO3's system did.

Sure, it added some great new features, but some of them were undermined by bias in the game's design. Energy weapons, for instance, were fundamentally inferior to small guns, even after they tweaked the ammunition.

They released the game with game breaking bugs. I'm not even sure they got rid of them all before they decided to stop patching it. But with every patch the game became less stable, at least that's what happened on my 360. By the time they were done "fixing" it, I had maybe a 50% chance of getting past character creation before it froze.

Strange. I'm on the 360 also. It plays great for me now that it's all been patched. I wonder why the difference between two users on the same system? wacko.gif

FO3 and Oblivion also shipped with bugs that broke the main quest and caused constant freezing. Bethsoft didn't bother to completely fix all their bugs either. Skyrim was a step forward in terms of stability so hopefully this is what we will be able to look forward to when it comes to next gen FO and TES games.

That is unfortunate.
SubRosa
Apparently FONV sold nearly 3.5 million copies. Less than half of Skyrim, just a little less than Oblivion and FO3, but more than any of the individual Mass Effect games. Of course these numbers are suspect, as I doubt they include online purchases for PC copies, such as through Steam (who do not publicly release their sales figures).

They did blow a bonus because of one point on Metacritic. They had to fire 30 people afterward, and cancel a new project they were working on, so obviously they were counting on that bonus.

It also says later in that article that Obsidian did not get paid on a per sale basis (Bethedsa published the game, so they made all the money from sales, and then in turn paid Obsidian some unknown amount). They just got a straight, one time payment for their work. My guess is Obsidian negotiated a bad deal, or Bethesda simply screwed them out of their money. Hmmm, my understanding is that Bethesda did the Q&A for FONV, not Obisdian. Perhaps Bethesda deliberately ignored bugs in the game so it shipped in such a sorry state as it did, in order to keep the Metacricitc score down?

There is no way of knowing how much Obsidian expected to make off of it either, or promised their shareholders/financiers that they would make. Maybe they expected to make a lot more, or even spent more creating it than they got paid by Bethesda?
McBadgere
Yeah, I saw that article a while ago...Kinda sad the way Bethesda held back the money...Dunno if they'd have released it deliberately to screw Obsidian over, they still have their reputation to keep up...Actually, they screwed themselves big-time with that and Skyrim didn't they?...

Um...

Oh yeah, but releasing a game where the online community thing has identified and fixed 27,000 bugs (according to Wikipedia)...that's not good for anyone...

Personally, I prefer FO3 anyways...The exploration is far more fun, and less soul grindingly dangerous..."Hey, shall I go this way?...Oh no, I'm dead by flies...Oh, how about this way?...Oh no, dead by Ghoul...How about..."...

Yawn...

But, each to their own of course...

However...Being part of that Next-Gen thing now... wink.gif ...I'm looking forward to what they throw at the machines...The difference between the PS3 and PS4 in terms of graphics is ridiculous...

I'm still playing through the PS3 version of Assassin's Creed 4, and it's stunningly gorgeous on that machine...Properly gorgeous...But I've tested the PS4 version and it's just so far beyond beautiful...Oh my...

I'm rather looking forward to what they do with Fallout and ES now...

Still not doing the online thing though... biggrin.gif ...

It was some lone random arsehole going by the name 'DChoaxer' with too much time on his hands. Did it just to 'make people freak out'.

Source: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/...e-You-Freak-Out

Bethesda didn't step in due to marketing logic; the hoax site generates hype and gets Fallout 4 to the forefronts of the minds of the gaming community and of potential customers, but when it turns out to be there's nothing the company is able to completely wash their hands of it. They could oust it as a fake, and there's an argument to say that they should have done, but going by typically cynical corporation logic then of course they wouldn't.

I am in no hurry. I have plenty of other games to play right now. I'll let them release it and spend a few months patching it. Maybe in March or April of next year I will buy it. Or maybe I'll wait until they release it on Gog.com. That should be about 20 years or so... laugh.gif

Grrrr. The people who pre-ordered the game should be able to get it a few days earlier than the release date too; or why bother to pre-order it at all? Grrrrr.

Last time Bethesda gets my money early.

The last time I preordered a game was Doom 2. I didn't get my copy until weeks after it was out in the stores. And the stores all had it on sale, so it was cheaper there than what I paid! Never again.

I've learned my lesson then. I thought it was kind of odd that when we pre-ordered it they said it would ship the same day it would to the stores; so I paid extra for speedy shipping so I could get it first. Now if I have to play it on Steam anyway (grrrr) - and also get it later than Steam players get it, that will really tick me off. I wonder if the Official forums are saying anything similar from pre-paying players.

Yeah, as long as the voice is good I'll be okay with that; but from my experience in ESO I have learned exactly how sensitive my ears are to a grating, irritating voice and one that is so cute you just fall in love with your character every time she says something.

One of my ESO characters has the best voice ever, and it is such a pleasure to play her! I just love her voice so much. Maxical in Oblivion was the same way, her voice was cute, nothing about it irritated.

But the last character I started in ESO - I thought I had chosen the right voice. Boy was I ever wrong. She grunts like a pig farmer's wife; it is like she is pumped to overflowing with testosterone. I cringe every time I hear that grunting noise, and she does it every single thing she does: chopping wood; mining ore; leaping onto a rock; mounting her horse; bending over; etc. If she wasn't so tough, I'd have killed her off a long time ago. As it is, she has my respect for her strength and combat abilities; but I don't enjoy playing her.

So the voiced characters in Fallout 4 - I think they should give us a pick from several voices, so at least we have some say-so. I mean, ESO gives you a choice of 8 voices per each race; and with 7 characters I only got one great one and one crappy one; the rest were all neutral - not excellent, but not bad.

In my experience Next Day shipping actually means a minimum of 6 days before you get it. And regular shipping means about 6 days before you get it. So I never pay extra for shipping anymore.

Are you sure you bought an actual physical disc? I was thinking that people who pre-ordered got a Steam validation key to use, and would download the game the same as everyone else.

My kids have requested a disc copy so I’ll probably just pick it up from Gamestop. Our local Gamestop is awesome and I like to give them the business. Their employees are consistently outstanding. Plus I’m told there’s a preorder bonus poster, and there is a Cinnabon and a chocolate shop right there. So my big decision for Nov. 10 will be Cinnabon or truffles with my coffee. tongue.gif

Oh okay, this is good news. So there is a pick of different possible voices. Cool. I was turned-off by the voiced protagonist thing at first, but I've been warming to the idea.

I still want the option of turning voices off though, does ESO give us this option? And if there's no option in FO4 (and possibly TES VI), hopefully Beth will allow modders to tamper with this.

I've stayed away from the forums too, because right now everything they are discussing is just projected anyway. But when the official announcements are made, my ears go up on them.

Winter Wolf
Yeah, the official forums are a disaster from this point. Todd has given us next to nothing about the main quest but that has not stopped anybody. The things I have read regarding synthetics are most likely miles away from what will be in the game. The perk list they came up with has already been debunked.

Some of it is fun but most is just baseless speculation.

A blackout of the main forum will be needed after Nov 10. We need the space to enjoy the game ourselves.

I am happy to grab the disc version on the first morning. The install will take about 15 - 20 minutes. On the other hand digital download would take forever as Australia has slower internet speed than Romania. Lol.

Sorry, back on track. With Fallout 4 just over the horizon I was wondering what you folks are most looking forward to. For me there are 3 keys items. I really loved the light, dripping rain effect they put into Skyrim, the one that was was heavier than drizzle, but not quite normal rain either. So it will be really awesome to see how the weather plays out in the game. Storms are likely to play a main role, but I also hope they downplay it with some somber music to fit the mood.

The number of quests that Beth gave me in Oblivion and Skyrim was astronomical, where as the number that I had to play with in Fallout 3 was horribly underwhelming. It was only once I modded the PC version that things felt complete again. I really hope that there is waaaay more content this time.

And third, with Adam Adamowicz (the Beth concept artist) passing away back in 2012 I am very keen to see if Beth put a few hidden eggs in the game dedicated to him. Perhaps a gravestone with his name, or a art book (in game) with a little of his work. Who knows?

So, what say you? What are you keen to see?

Yeah, sorry. I know I go on and on about that topic. But it really is a thorn in my side. I would agree with WW, more quests and decent ones at that. I also felt a little underwhelming in that department in Fallout 3. Not horribly, but definitely less than in Oblivion.
