Thanks for those links. I almost fell off my chair when I saw Alix again. Ahh, nobody could weave a story like you could back in those old Beth forum days. That fishing looks awesome and is exactly the sort of thing the Beth should head down. Yes, have the factions quests, but also put some appropriate quests that suit each particular game world.

The Daedric investigation makes good role play and that is something like what Beth should have done. But make it so that each Daedric Lord is not happy that you are investigating each one and get the character to play one Lord off the other. Things like bringing one artifact into another realm is a big no no.

**

The Fallout 4 map certainly does feel smaller than Fallout 3 but it is still much bigger than Point Lookout. I have not journeyed far across the map but my guess would be about 70-75% the size of number 3.

I am glad mALX, that you are feeling better about the game now. It is a really, really good game. Please take that from me. I would not say that if it wasn't true. But I would not buy the game on PC until the modders have fixed the UI and all the other console crap Beth ported. Ha!

The game world and combat is awesome fun. There is heaps more gore outside of VATS with ghoul body parts falling off as you shoot them. It is great! And Dogmeat rocks the show, pulling down ghouls to the ground by their clothing and helping you win the 'good fight.'

Just stay away from the rushed story.

Fishing, etc = I loved the idea of my character having a job; I mean, it doesn't get more real than having to work every day and the adventures you find are brought about in the course of your work day.

In Oblivion, Maxical's "Job" was working at the Arena as a combatant; but when she left the Arena she started fishing/selling Slaughterfish scales to alchemists and their meat to restaurants:

*baked slaughterfish on rice:

http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/Ma...zpse62178f4.jpg

She also ran an illegal Still making "Kvatch Kickapoo" moonshine that she sold:

http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/qq67/Ma...zps77e06c4f.jpg

In Skyrim - (I absolutely LOVED all that blacksmith crafting stuff!), she "worked" for the Whiterun Smithy. Her "Job" was to hunt for pelts and mine ore; bring it back to the Smithy and smelt the ore down/tan the pelts/make weapons and armor/improve them/enchant them. Adrienne paid her for finished products and sold them in the store for a profit.

Anyway, that was Maxical's "job" in Skyrim. I built the fishery and Inn for Misa, that is where she worked till I stopped playing.

It really did change my thinking about Fallout 4 to see that one vid. I didn't even get all the way through it; it was so long. But saw enough to know he was playing my way and having the kind of fun I was looking for in a game.

My son is wanting to get it, if he does I will sneak into his room and play it while he is at school, laugh.gif

Okay, I have played around with the settlement building. I feel that it will be really successful with the console users as they have never had house buildings before. Others (....cough....cough.....SubRosa and mALX) will probably expect a more high quality finished to their homes.

Fallout 4 Nexus

Oh, I feel so dumb - Nexus, I know how to find mods on Nexus! I'm sorry. I must have been having a really bad day to ask you that, lol. I apologize, and thank you so much for the link!

I did find one really good one of both the male and female, and I believe it was the female the person was playing. Thank you so much, SubRosa.

I'm glad that most of you are enjoying the game but I'm surprised that Beth went so far and included actual voice lines for something as simple as picking locks. My laptop can't run FO4 but even if it did, I'd definitely wait for some modder to remove the forced voice. laugh.gif I just think it's not fair that they impose such limitations on our characters, my character Blondie from New Vegas would definitely swear if she couldn't pick some lock and I doubt they included appropriate voice lines. biggrin.gif

I think I already saw one voice mod on the Nexus yesterday. I am sure more will follow. Certainly one to remove the player voice. That is not hard at all. Just record a second of silence, and use that to replace every player voice file. As far as the game knows its playing the voice. But you never hear it.

And here it is already, uploaded day one.

WOO HOO! Most def will be wanting this one, Thanks SubRosa!

Animated hair is cool. Other games have had it for a while. So it is nice to see that. Do things like cloaks/long coats animate and wave around too?

Yep. Jenna found a raggedy coat that waves around a little when she walks. smile.gif

Here’s something to consider. The headbob in first person makes me sick very quickly. I play mostly in third person but like to look closely at stuff in first. I am amazed that this idiotic gimmick is even included and disgusted that it can’t be disabled.

ADDED: The 1,000 names that Codsworth can say are for the character’s name, not the baby’s. For example if you name your character Steve, Codsworth will call you Mr. Steve. If he doesn’t know the name he will call you sir or ma’am. Fun tip from a video, not confirmed by me:

Very neat. goodjob.gif Staring at the stiff-as-a-board cloaks and capes in Skyrim and Oblivion make me seriously question Persephone's washing habits (which apparently must be non-existent!)

I am not surprised it is there. It has been a standard in FPS games for decades. But I am stunned that you cannot turn it off. People getting sick because of it has been well-known for just as long! nono.gif

I remember turning off head-bobbing in Daggerfall. Deja vu's not what it used to be. huh.gif
Winter Wolf
Yes, the head bobbing is annoying with some guns. The pipe rifle was quite bad, the pistols not so much.

Another thing that is very different now is that the game world feels very empty when compared to Fallout 3. Many of the enemies burst up through the ground to attack you so you have no idea they are there. I feel like I am walking through Pripyat and not one of the important culture cities of the US. Lol.

I found my first Fat Man yesterday. Woo Hoo! Decided to leave it there and grab it if I need it later.

**

mALX- That screenshot is Rise of the Tomb Raider. It is X1 exclusive for a short time and that is making PS4 owners upset. The detail on Lara is very nice. I am enjoying the game but it is still standard TR affair, too many set piece moments and cut scenes. Just give me a five level tomb and let me work it out myself, damn it.

And I always find it crazy that these games can be completed in days and then you have to wait 2 years for the next one. At least with Beth games I am struggling to catch up (I am still only half way through Skyrim or NV).

Most games that I like let you play on past the completion of the main objective. Even if it's just revisiting the places you already went to see if you missed any loot. TR does have a habit of destroying the places so you couldn't go back if you wanted to.

And with the Fat Man. I guess it just comes down to the amount of weapons and the upgrading this game has. I really would like to enjoy them first. In hindsight it probably would have been okay. I forgot to check if it had any nukes anyway. Lol.

ghastley- Yes. TR does have the habit of blocking us off (using destroyed corridors and slides). At least in the new reboot they have fast travel camps that allow us to revisit locations. And Lara does like blowing things up. laugh.gif

I get extremely motion sick even just watching youtube vids of video game play on some games. A lot of it is if there is too much swinging around of the camera (like people who "look around" a lot and/or with a fast or jerky motion.

But I also get really ill when the player is in first person and running somewhere (or when I do it while playing) - I didn't know what was causing it, but I'll bet you are right about it having to do with head-bobbing.

I have to play in 3rd person at all times anymore.

Winter Wolf
I have had another look at the head bobbing. What is causing it is not really the moving of the camera but actually the up and down movement of the arm motion. The camera is not moving.

Long weapons- Very bad bobbing.
Short weapons- Very minor movement
Weapon holstered- No head bob at all.

When you walk around with no gun the camera is smooth and stable.

I agree with the motion sickness thing, mALX. When I am playing I do not feel it but I feel it bad when somebody else is swinging the camera. The only game that made me sick was Forza Horizon 2. The camera turns all the time around country roads I am not expecting. Track racing never does it to me.

The game finally finished downloading so I've been able to play it at last. happy.gif

I'm just under 10 hours in. Got as far as Concord, got my power armour, and then ignored the main quest entirely. I've spent most of the time building up my settlement, and it's looking pretty cosy now.

Character creation was a bit underwhelming, especially in the hair department. Bethesda's character creation has never been top notch, and it doesn't feel as if they've tried to progress with it. There was literally 1 option for long hair on a man, and only 2 or 3 shoulder length options for a woman. kvleft.gif

Aside from the very start of the game with that silly marriage and child situation, the game is super duper. Combat is good, visuals are fantastic, the world itself is really nicely done. The weapon and armour crafting/upgrading system is fun to tinker with, and the usage of materials means that you spend more time scavenging than in previous Fallout games.

Not much more to be said that others haven't already picked up on. laugh.gif

WOO HOO! Anxious to hear more impressions as you go!

@ Winter Wolf - I never knew what caused my motion sickness when playing the games or watching gameplay vids; but I rarely keep my weapon out when walking around; and don't have the issue in 3rd person (which is the only way I can play anymore).

So I really don't know why, but 1st person always makes me sick fairly quickly; but it is very noticeable instantly in vids if they spin or jerk the camera view as if trying to simulate their character is "looking around" by swiveling their heads instead of slowly panning the camera around to take in the whole room.

And in first person running = I first noticed this in Oblivion, where the grass was eye level in first person for some odd reason - I started getting very ill when running in first person. Then I started getting ill watching anyone else run in first person.

Well, I think it was SubRosa that told me about playing in 3rd person, and I was actually stunned to see my character head-tracking NPC's and smiling, etc - it was AWESOME!

But to this day =- and in any game I try to play or any gameplay vid I watch; seeing running in first person always gets me motion sick now. Not sure why it is, or what causes it; it is just there now. It started sometime in playing Oblivion and just got worse as time passed.

(so in other words, it could be me instead of the game itself).

Spot on there. smile.gif I am spending all my time just scavenging with Dogmeat. Now let me see, does that item have copper, or screws.....lol.

Speaking of settlement building, I love the generators and running lines, heaps of fun. You can turn the power off from the generator itself or the light from a wall switch. It is neat that the generator is loud when close up but really quiet if you move away from it. Helps with sleeping, you see. laugh.gif

Shame about that motion sickness. My Mum gets it bad in cars as a passenger. Me, not so much.

Interesting about the 3rd person.

* I actually cried and was in a near fainting state the whole way across the Lake Pontchartrain bridge. It was stormy, the lake had whitecaps and it looked like they were going to overcome the road any second. I've never been so happy to get off a bridge in my life!

NEVER again !!!!!

Wow, is there a person in that wreck? Or is that just the side mirror or something? The people do not look concerned so it must be okay. Lol.

I am over 20 hours now and I have been both pleasantly surprised and horrified by Fallout.

The game is awesome in so many ways and I will happily sink hundreds of hours into this game. My goal is to surpass Mirocu's number of caps in FO3 and start my own bank at Boston. Ha! With the trading and settlements I might even become some big shot property developer. biggrin.gif

The downside is something that I will not spoil, other than to say that I have already seen two examples where Bethesda have blatantly stepped all the Fallout Lore from the early games. Yes, Beth has a right to make east coast the way they see fit, but I am still very, very surprised....

In my mind they did the same thing to TES Lore with Skyrim. But Eventually we are going to have to start a SPOILERS thread for FO4 like we have for Oblivion and Skyrim = a place where people can discuss openly and everyone knows going into the thread that they may encounter spoilers in there so to avoid it if they don't want to. I always like hearing whole stories without censorship or editing to protect from spoilers; (and I think Acadian does too); so you will always find me in the spoiler threads - but I know many people don't like them at all.

I've renamed this thread to indicate no spoilers, making it complement mirocu's new spoilers thread.

Well, except that the Fallout Screenshot thread is not just FO3 screenshots, it also has New Vegas in it. So it needs to remain either just the Fallout Screenshot Thread or the name changed to reflect it contains New Vegas screenshots too.

If we leave it just the "Fallout Screenshots" thread, then we can leave the Fallout 4 shots already in it (in there) instead of having to move them.

Isn't NV considered an expansion of FO3, the way SI was for Oblivion, and Dragonborn for Skyrim? If not, I'd have expected the new game to be called FO5.

No, most def not an expansion. It was the last legal rights Bethesda won back from the defunct Interplay/Black Isles because they (Interplay) had been given a certain amount of time to obtain funding for their one final Fallout game they held the rights to. When they were unable to obtain the funding in the time allotted, Bethesda took them to court and got back the rights; produced New Vegas - but in a kind gesture toward the original Black lsles Fallout Devs Bethesda invited Obsidion Studios to do the work under their final approval of everything. (Obsidion is actuallyl 6 of the former Black Isles Devs who started their own company under Black Isles former lead Dev Feargus Urquhart).

It is technically a separate game from the Fallout Series; holds its own place like it would have if Interplay had gotten to develop it. (and I'm sure it gave the Dev's that had originally started the Falllout Series some closure they were missing from the way Interplay ended them).

If I'm not mistaken, Redguard in the Elder Scrolls series is the same way; absolutely not an expansion but a completely separate game (just taking place in the same realm as the Elder Scrolls Series) that was supposed to break off and begin an "Adventure" series of a completely different style of play than the RPG open world sandbox of the TES series. But it went over like a lead balloon, so was dropped.

Acadian
The FO3 screenshot thread now indicates it is for NV shots as well.

Edit: I'm happy to tinker with the title until it is what members want. If a single all inclusive FO related screenshot thread is preferred, we can do that. If a separate one for FO3/NV and another for FO4 is preferred we can do that.

My personal choice would be one heading for all Fallout screens because there really aren't that many and we go back and forth through these Fallout games; but it is really the majority decision on something like this; so if anyone else has a preference on it (speak up).

The way it stands now, some Fallout 4 screens will need to be moved and a new thread started for them. Keeping the name "The Fallout Screenshot thread" kind of eliminates the need to move them at all. In all the years these games have been out we've only drummed up 52 pages of screens and comments on two games; really not enough traffic to warrant starting a new thread for FO4 imho.

Grits
My only concern with FO4 screens is accidentally having spoilers come up in the shared thread, not so much from what I post but from whatever discussion might follow. I didn’t plan to post character updates in the Wasteland/Mohave thread for the same reason. I wouldn’t want anyone to have to avoid those threads to keep from having FO4 spoiled for them.

Perhaps a Today in the Commonwealth (with spoilers) thread for unrestricted updates and screenshots? Or should we use spoiler tags in the shared threads and trust that people will move spoilerish discussion to the Fallout 4 – spoiler version thread?

Not really sure how an additional screenshot thread for spoiler conversations about the screens would be necessary. Screenshot threads are already open for spoilers because they can always show a scene someone else may not have seen yet. It is understood there may be spoilers found in screenshot threads.

(and there is already a thread for unrestricted conversation regarding FO4 that Mirocu started, so unsure why we would need another one).

mirocu
I for one could go with having all Fallout screenies in one thread. But since I´m not even playing my vote doesn´t hold much weight, I guess.

Rather difficult question. We shouldn´t need two screenshot threads just for Fallout 4 but at the same time there´s a chance for spoilers... indifferent.gif Maybe those entering the FO4 screenshot thread have to be prepared for spoilers or simply avoid it for the time being.

I'd agree. If a screenshot has a spoiler in it, it would be put in the spoilers thread, rather than the screenshots one, like we do now for Skyrim. So FO4, FO4 spoilers, and FO4 screenshots should be a complete set. Until FO4 mods are possible, anyway. biggrin.gif
Acadian
My own view is that one FO screenshot thread might be fine and just begin adding shots there from FO4 as they come up. But I also want to be sensitive to the fact that I don't play FO. I also don't believe it's necessary to have spoiler/non-spoiler screenshot threads. Viewers should generally be aware that if they look at shots from other folks' games, they're likely to see spoilers.

Whichever way we go, I'll tweak the existing FO screenshot thread title as needed to reflect things.

Right now as far as I know there are only 3 members actually playing; and in the future there is a possibility that I might get it (but I don't care one way or another about spoilers, and usually buy the official guides as part of my collections anyway, lol).

But I am pretty sure in the future we will see SubRosa playing it; and she does not like spoilers, so she should have a say in how she thinks the threads should be handled.

Acadian does not play any of the Fallout genre games; and doesn't care one way or another about spoilers. Mirocu will probably not get it unless the need to have online access via Steam to play it is removed.

I don't really care how it is done, just the least convoluted way possible is usually the best way all the way around for user friendliness.

I also don't believe it's necessary to have spoiler/non-spoiler screenshot threads. Viewers should generally be aware that if they look at shots from other folks' games, they're likely to see spoilers.

That is the truth. Screenshots and vids are inherently spoilerish by nature, it is to be expected if you see them you are opening yourself up having some insight into the game you didn't have before. Right now every single screenshot out there is something I haven't seen in game and is telling me something about that game that I don't know/didn't know.

And for anyone who hasn't played FO3 or NV - the screenshot thread is already overloaded with spoilers in those two games; and no one has been concerned to this point about it.

SubRosa
I don't really like the idea of two separate Fallout screenshot topics. It would just make things more confusing. If I don't want to see what Fallout 4 looks like I just won't click on the links to the pictures. But I do want to see, because that is a big influence on whether or not I decide to buy the game at some later date.

That works for me. The main quest is the only one I really don’t want to know about yet, and it’s easy enough to just stay away until I’ve played through it. If it lasts as long as some of the Skyrim faction quests that should take me… about five more minutes? tongue.gif

I’ve been watching my son play and there have been some truly jaw-dropping moments. Also some NPCs that I love and some that I’d love to slap. Really neat.

When you have done it, please feel free to get on the spoiler thread and discuss it, I would love to hear about those jaw dropping moments !!!

Winter Wolf
Oh, come on, Beth put in years of work on the Winterhold quest line and the Bard College.

It took a ton of developer effort to add a quest where we had to collect 1 drum and 1 lute. laugh.gif

Unfortunately the developer was absent that was supposed to ensure the questline worked in case the player found the lute or drum before starting the quest, laugh.gif

Winter Wolf
Dogmeat looks really stylish now with his new collar.

He is too busy parading around that he forgets that he is walking into a raider turret. Lol.

Equipping items is different to Skyrim. There they took the item if it suited their style and was better than what they were using. Here you have to move the item across then manually equip it.

Y on Xbox.
E on PC.

Crikey. Feral Ghouls are so creepy now. They were a bit weird and almost cartoony in FO3 and NV but now they're just plain terrifying.

Oh, you cleared this building? It sure would be a shame if FERAL GHOULS STARTED CRAWLING OUT OF THE FLOORS AND WALLS panic.gif

The design for non-feral ghouls is really great too. Everything looks so good.
mALX

Agree - the non-feral ghouls look really good, and so far really liked a few of their personalities too!

Grits
The feral ghouls are so fast. Like I Am Legend fast. Scary! panic.gif

Winter Wolf, where did that funny Krebs vid about ghouls go that you posted? I was rolling watching it, but can't find it to comment, lol. It is in my mail box on the 13th, but not on here.

Winter Wolf
I took it down because I thought the timing was not correct after the horrible events in Paris. Gaming has little to do with world events but is better to be sensitive to the feeling of others.

Also I noticed that the ghouls and raiders look strangely small when compared to the fence and building structures. It must be for some technical reason, not sure.

I will post it again soon. Glad you liked it. smile.gif

Yes, we are still waiting to hear if my Uncle is okay.

Destri Melarg
Best wishes to your uncle, mALX.

It seems rather silly to talk about a video game in light of recent events, but given that the purpose of this thread is to discuss Fallout 4… well…

I got to play for about 10 hours over the weekend and all i've seen are Vault 111, Sanctuary Hills, & Concord. I don't care at all about the MQ. Apologies to Todd Howard and the team over at Bethesda, but if they want me to embrace the story they need to make it more compelling than what I can come up with just fooling around with the workshop. So far settlement building is the best thing about this game and it makes me want to run a pure Charisma build just to get the most out of the mechanic (that isn't really spoilerish, is it?).

The group that I have met so far are all pretty one dimensional as characters go, but I find that I care more about their well being than I do about the health of those that Bethesda tells me i'm supposed to care about. The good news is that, after 10 hours I am still barely scratching the surface of what this game has to offer!

The Lovely Mrs. Melarg[™] (who I daresay has never encountered a game that didn't provoke a condescending remark) has already dubbed Fallout 4 'Minecraft with junk'… but right now she's downstairs building a bar for her settlers! laugh.gif

That by itself should tell you that the game is worth getting.

OMG, she is playing it? Awesome!

Thanks for the well wishes, still haven't heard anything.

My Uncle is 87 years old now, and I haven't seen him since I lived in Germany in the early to mid 1990's. because he didn't come to the Continental US much anymore by then (and never to ETN, lol). I just hope he is okay.
