At this point I am going to try creating a mod that sets the important NPCs to invulnerable. If that fails I will just get used to the work around I used the last time I did the Mechanist questline - give the NPC I am with an extra 1,000 health with the console, and keep spamming that ever every fight (since the game periodically knocks it back down to their original health).
SubRosa
Mar 14 2018, 01:34 AM
Making NPCs invulnerable did not work either. But I finally did come to a workaround. I created a mod that gave all the companions and important quest-givers an extra 9,999 health. So far that is keeping them alive.

That is frickin’ weird. Maybe it was caused by one of the Creation Club patches?

Hey, gotta do what ya gotta do.
I remember with Fallout 3 when I was making companions for Janet's game last fall, it is possible to write scripts for NPC followers which cause them to automatically heal up everything (including broken limbs) once combat is over. I'll see if I can post the script I used, maybe you can copy/paste it into your Fallout 4 companions ....
Crap. Never mind. It won't work. If Fallout 4 is anything like Skyrim, it won't work. These newer games do everything bass-ackwards when it comes to scripts. Anyway, glad to hear you've got a workaround.
SubRosa
Mar 14 2018, 04:53 PM
The Fallout 4 companions already automatically heal up to full after every battle. The problem is they get killed during the fight. Ada (the main quest-giver of the Automatron dlc) in particular stands no chance of surviving your very first meeting with her, in which she is in combat with a horde of evil robots.

This one wishes the clothing was more modular (not talking about the armor). Khajiit hates that his folks can’t wear combat boots with jeans or a dress, or that cool jacket from the surveyor outfit with fatigues.
Will say the the Eli’s Clothing mod does a good job of providing more options.

Well it looks interesting. It's got a lot of vehicles to ride around in. And those graphics look amazing, of course. It doesn't even look like a videogame! It looks more like a movie trailer. Like all the sudden, Vin Diesel is going to be standing there at the end, doing a Schwarzenegger one-liner.
I wonder if I'm done progressing in the world of videogames though. Like, I'm about to become mirocu. Stuck in 2009 with Fallout 3, lol. Maybe 2010 with New Vegas. I don't feel like shelling out any more money to get a PC upgrade, or even a Xbox One. Who knows, though?
Is Rage Bethesda's own creation? You know.... Fallout was not really their idea, Beth merely took it over with FO3. What about Rage, though?
I think that could be it. They want to make something which is completely theirs, if so. That's what all the vehicles are about. Can't put a bunch of operational vehicles into Fallout games, that would break all kinds of lore, right?
Anyway...
SubRosa

The Rage games are actually made by ID Software (the makers of the Doom, Quake, etc... games). Bethesda is just the publisher. Both ID and Beth are owned by ZeniMax.

Right, as Subbie stated
Rage is not made by BGS, only published by Bethesda Softworks. Apologies if Khajiit’s post was misleading. But yeah, Rage2. This one honestly thought this was a dead franchise, since the first one was released way back in 2011. From what Khajiit has read by others at Beth.net, the first
Rage was a fairly typical first person shooter with some driving elements tossed into the mix.
Rage2 looks to expand on that formula, but not sure to what extent. Supposedly it’s going to have a large open world to explore. This one is curious about the vehicles, but the combat looks like typical numbskull shoot’em up, imo.

With new laptop it's time for a new game.
Though my family and new job will keep me busy, I should find some time here and there to explore Commonwealth. I spoiled myself years ago by reading some of the main plot of the game but I can live with that, fortunately about most of the game I have no clue, which is good.
I made a mistake before playing Skyrim by watching too many trailers and reading reviews / playthroughs, so I felt that I had known too much about the game before even trying it. Anyway, I didn't repeat this mistake with FO4.
My character only made it out of the starting Vault but so far, a few impressions:
- it reminds me of Mass Effect. A lot. One of the reasons I decided to try FO4 was that I often came upon "FO4 is too similar to Mass Effect" statement. Seeing as I liked ME, that wasn't a bad thing for me. Those who had played ME, know why they're similar - the dialogue system is almost the same and you see and hear your character as he's talking. Maybe they're similar in some other aspects too, we'll see. The difference is that in ME you have a fixed surname which often gets mentioned in dialogues BUT...
- ...BUT I was nicely surprised that my character's surname is voiced in FO4. I named him "Dennis Barry" and the robot in the intro called him Mister Barry.

Now I know that if I gave him some rare name, he wouldn't be voiced but still...it's a nice touch.
- I try and regard FO4 as a different game than its predecessors, otherwise I might get too critical about some things like skills being handled differently than in previous games. So far the voiced protagonist doesn't bother me either. But my first impression is that FO4 is much more like some FPS than previous Fallouts, especially compared to New Vegas.
The graphics is stunning (thanks to my new laptop).

So far I don't intend to install any mods to experience the game in its vanilla state.

Yeah Codsworth is the only character who will call you by name, as far as Khajiit knows. It’s good that you intend to play the game in its vanilla state first so you’ll know what exactly you don’t like and can mod it. F4 has plenty of problems but most are at least partially alleviated with mods.

I must compliment the character creator, so far it's my favorite one from Beth games, it's not so difficult to create a good-looking character. There are lots of options to sculpt on a face and while some don't play an important role IMO, some others really stand out and make a difference.

There is a neat trick I have been meaning to post about.
An easy way to find mines is to simply go into VATS with a weapon drawn. If there is a mine in your line of sight, VATS will lock on to it. Cycle through targets to find all the mines in front of you. Exit VATS and your gun will be pointed directly at the last one you had targeted. You can either shoot it then (or in VATS), or disarm it.

I finished the MQ today for the 1st time, following the Railroad questline. In fact, as SubRosa said in another thread, the MQ in a way ends once you find your son, later on there are several faction questlines to follow. The game surpassed my expectations by far and now I'd say it's a great game. My biggest gripe before actually playing the game was the voiced protagonist but while playing, it didn't bother me at all. It might bother me when replaying the game with another character but there are mods to help. In any case, I don't plan to create a new character anytime soon.
Not once while playing I felt that the game would be rushed, it actually feels "finished" to me. In almost 60 hours of playing I encountered only one CTD and no glitches / bugs, which is saying something. Exploration is very, very interesting and before playing I wasn't thrilled knowing that it's set in a town (just like Washington in Fallout 3) but they did an amazing job with Boston and accessible rooftops make one feel like there's another town above.
Quests are also interesting and I liked the MQ, especially the early part where you're still more or less clueless about what's going on in the Commonwealth. Combat is well-done and I immensely enjoyed some big battles close to the end of the main questline.
And the best of it - despite the MQ being completed there's still lots of things to be done in the Commonwealth, which are probably even more interesting than quests. But now I intend to game at a slightly slower pace.

Ia! Rattler! As a foulness shall you know him!
In other Fallout news, Victoria's game started to feel stale, so I decided to start up a new Hecate run through. This time I decided to start her out near Covenant, with the idea to use it as a home. That has not worked out so well. The place just has too many issues.
Even after you take it over, there are still items marked owned by the former inhabitants, and taking them is stealing. That makes the robot Deezer hostile. I would rather not do that because it is not necessary for one, and he makes some good lemonade (I think it is a 50 point healing item, which is nice in the early game).
I tried out a mod that is supposed to make everything unowned, but it does not work on everything. I also tried a mod that cleans up the garbage, but it does not get all of that either. I was able to clean up the destroyed turrets with the console. But I found another problem in the office building. There is a broken radio there that just puts out static. I could not remove it with the workshop, so I did it with the console. But it still makes the static noise in that area. That is really annoying me.
So I decided to give up on Covenant as soon as possible, and just use it as a place to sleep and store loot until Hecate can find a permanent home.
111 Cloverfield Lane is my thought on that now. I moved the exterior down south of the Drumlin Diner, and west of the Super-Duper Mart. It is near the train tracks and abandoned house that a lot of encounters happen at.
I took a look inside, and it is well done. Just like the movie in fact. I recognize a lot of the meshes and textures as Elianora's work, so the whole thing has the feel of one of her mods (which is a good thing). It is just like the movie (which was also good), but that aside, it has all the things you need in a lair. It is not a settlement that you can change things in. But it looks good. The author did some really interesting things with the workbenches, using different meshes for some. For example, the prewar stove is a real cooking station now. Kind of as it should be.

I found that the Flamer is great for dealing with Mirelurk egg nests. It efficiently destroys all the eggs. This is of course if you are like me and want to destroy all the eggs, and don't want to get as many as possible to spawn the baby 'lurks.
I also found a helpful trick for editing your face. You can use the console command SLM Player to bring up the face change menu. But the problem with doing that after character generation is that you cannot get close enough to see any subtle changes you make. Go to the Body, click ok to accept your body type (or change it if you want). Then accept that and go back to the main face changing screen. The game will zoom in on your character's face just like in the original character generation.

Hehe, with Tarani having 9+ Endurance, Far Harbor is a walk in the park. Having all four perks of Ghoulish and all three perks of Life Giver means that rads slowly dissipate, and health slowly restores. The dreaded Fog is essentially a non-issue and she doesn't even carry Rad-X or RadAway anymore.

That does seem like removing almost a core component of the game. I'm sure it's lovely to experience, but definitely seems like overkill, lol. With Tarani she still has to take time in between rad exposures to let it go away. Far Harbor might be easy (well, as easy as it can be on Survival Mode at level 86), but the Glowing Sea would still kill her.

I find the whole radiation thing just becomes a tiresome mechanic after a while. Especially since you can have hundreds of points of resistance, and still take radiation damage. So I am willing to spend 4 perk points to nullify it.
