You know, it is said that when someone starts talking about V:TM-B it creates an impulse in people to play the game. Like an elder feeling the beckoning of a Methuselah, Khajiit is certainly feeling the urge. laugh.gif

Like Jack said; An Antediluvian has a bad dream somewhere and you're gonna feel that tongue.gif

I do have an urge to start another playthrough when October rolls around. Like Reaps did when he played RE in 2015 I think. I don't have it installed anymore but if I can find a mod that changes the Malk conversation font to normal font so I can at least read the letters and hopefully understand what the heck it means, then maybe...

Or you could, you know, play a different clan tongue.gif

Malks are great! I cannot imagine playing again as a "serious" clan again! laugh.gif

Also; I absolutely need the powers they have.

I enjoyed my Ventrue and Tremere playthroughs. They had some good powers to control crowds and what not.
mirocu
Yeah, Tremere has great powers too, and Gangrel's Animalism is almost overpowered at highest level. You never run out of blood with that or Tremere's blood magic.

But the thing is, I need Obfuscate in much of the game. First half anyway since it involves a lot of sneaking. And I'm not too keen on playing a Nossie. Really, the only thing about Malks I don't like is their doublespeak and the font which, while it is appropriate, makes it hard to read.

I can only imagine playing Ventrue and going through the sewers blink.gif

Well you don’t *need* Obfuscate, Brigitte actually only had two dots in that during her playthrough, I believe. Maybe 3. I’ll need to double check that. I think if you want to be really sneaky you could get by with just improving your sneak skill.
mirocu
Yeah I never got further than three dots either but Obfuscate is mandatory for me. It costs XP just like raising Sneak does but with the added benefit of being 100% reliable as long as you don't do stuff that disengages it.

Idk. Sneak works so much better in Oblivion kvleft.gif

I need to play again as a non-obfuscation using clan. I don’t remember normal sneaking being that bad, lol
mirocu
Maybe I just suck at it.

One thing I've wondered for some time. Is Malkavian's Mass Suicide more powerful against a boss or is it equal to Vision of Death in that aspect?

Like if you use MS against Ming Xiao, does it more damage than VoD?

I don’t remember. sad.gif
mirocu
I just don't remember; I never knew to begin with! ohmy.gif
TheCheshireKhajiit
I want to say bosses are highly resistant to those sorts of powers.
mirocu
I know, but they do have an effect still.

Sure, but I feel blood buff + a decent melee weapon is perhaps a better use of the blood.
mirocu
Perhaps Khajiit is right, though I have never been a melee fighter in this game. I did notice VoD stunned even Ming Xiao for a bit.

I guess that’s the thing about this game; multiple approaches to problems. cool.gif
mirocu
With Malkavians having the most interesting approaches rollinglaugh.gif

Anyway; no playthrough here. I'm content enough watching darkchiron's LP.
TheCheshireKhajiit
Not playing Bloodlines currently, but I did take the quiz for which clan suited me best over at WorldofDarkness.com. I tried to answer it as truthfully as possible with out gaming the answers to the questions and came out pretty pleased. Khajiit would apparently make a good Gangrel.
SubRosa
It wound up giving me Gangrel as well. I guess we could be in the same roving pack.
mirocu
Gangrel is imho a good clan for most people. I even think a lot of people recommend it to new players. It was in fact my first clan as well.

Animalism ftw!
macole
Having never played Vampire: The Masquerade Games, I was curious and took the quiz. I came up with the Hecata clan. How ironic.

Animalism ftw!

It has such good powers. Communing with animals using Animalism would be super cool, and potentially changing into animals using Protean would be badass!

Ooo the Necromancers! laugh.gif
TheCheshireKhajiit
So, apparently we will be hearing more about Bloodlines 2 in September. I’m curious, but after all of the issues this game has had, I’m expecting it to be hot garbage.

SubRosa
Yes. My expectations for this are absolutely zero.

Wha? I thought the game had been out for months now blink.gif

Noooooo, it has been in development hell for quite a while, due to a dev team change and many key people (including some of the original Bloodlines staff) being fired, or leaving the project.
mirocu
The Bloodlines curse continues then.. wink.gif

Found a really good video retrospecting Bloodlines. It's not trying to be funny, quirky or anything like that. Just an interesting look back on the game with all its good and bad points. Highly recommend watching!

But ‘Rocu, you don’t like V:TM-B. tongue.gif

Cripes, this game looks incredible! I can see why it's highly-regarded. evillol.gif Why did the guy in the video say Bloodlines was "poorly received" or whatever??

When V:TM-B was released, it was an absolute mess. Its development was notoriously fraught with issues that, through no real fault of the development team, caused the game to not only be released as a buggy mess, but an unfinished buggy mess. It was so bad that the studio, Troika, was shut down afterwards. It’s like if BGS made Oblivion under ridiculous conditions and deadlines, and then when it came out really rough, Bethesda (the parent company) shut down BGS because of it. It’s only thanks to talented modders that saw the potential of the game that we are now able to play it with relatively few bugs (I won’t say “bug free” because it does still have some issues) through the unofficial patch. They even managed to restore some unfinished content.

That's not true! I only hate the sarcophogus, the whole Tzimize business, the warrens, the useless guns, the annoying zombies, the Ming Xio fight, Griffith Park and the tediousness of the tower when you go after LaCroix! Other than that, it's fine! biggrin.gif

That’s still a very large chunk of the game lol.

I liked Griffith Park. I have never been so terrified by a video game. My heart was pounding the entire time the first time I went through there.
Renee
Which is scarier: Bloodlines or DOOM 3?

Oh, Doom 3 hands down. Bloodlines is more campy and fun.
TheCheshireKhajiit
V:TM-B has its moments though. The Ocean House Hotel, 609 Kings Way, the aforementioned Griffith Park. The museum when you turn that corner and there’s a velociraptor right in your face. laugh.gif

One of my favourite places in the game! Not only because of the dinosaurs but because it's a fun place in general and a cake.gif walk as a Malk biggrin.gif

Another fave place is Chinatown. I always like Asian themed maps in games, Deus Ex has a great one too.
TheCheshireKhajiit
Lol
Ooo I was also really unnerved by the Stanley Gimble quest the first time I played it. That s*** was creepy!
Renee
I really gotta try Vampire. evillol.gif you folks are making me want to at least get it from GoG (if it's on GoG).

Yeah, you should try it. But as always I gotta recommend not to play as a Malkavian or Nosferatu on your first playthrough. They are much better suited for a second and third time around.

I second that. My first character was a Ventrue (think corpo vampires, very focused on social skills), followed by a Tremere (blood mages).

Both good choices for a first playthrough, although being Ventrue might cause some issues with the warrens. How did Khajiit tackle that? My first was a Gangrel, btw.

I honestly don’t remember, lol. Probably blood bags.
Renee
Ah, so the character we can play is sort of fixed by class? Can we be either sex?
mirocu
The warrens is annoyingly long, but honestly on subsequent plays it didn't feel as long. But I do hate the fight with Andrei because he keeps spawning those monsters that get in the way. Second fight is much easier since it's mano a mano.

QUOTE(Renee @ Jan 27 2025, 06:51 PM) *

You can be male or female and yes; unless you play with lets say the Camarilla Edition mod, the class is fixed for the clan (or race) that you choose.
TheCheshireKhajiit
I think one thing that helped Bloodlines click for me was that it felt (to me anyway) a bit like a TES game. I really appreciated being able to pick from different Clans and have the experience be very different from each other.
mirocu
Yeah, that is one good thing about the game for sure. Tremere is quite different from Malk but both clans are great imo.

Tidbit: regarding the drug house you go to for Mercurio. I never knew you could just talk to the guy guarding the fence. I just naturally assumed everyone was hostile on sight so I've only ever snuck through and stealth killed everyone laugh.gif
