Thanks for your input, McB and Grits. Well, if I ever do get a PS3 thrown after me, or one pushed down the mail slot in the door, I think I´ll take it and give Skyrim a try. Till then I´m occupied in the dangerous Wasteland and the beautiful Cyrodiil for a looooooooooooong time still

PS3 doesn't cost too much nowadays, too. Here in America it's less than 300 bucks new, I'm not sure what you would pay in Scandinavia.
$300 isn't a lot?!

With the PS4 coming out later this year, a PS3 might not be a good investment. Then again, they will probably sink a lot lower than $300 after the PS4 launches. You could probably pick one up dirt cheap then.

Considering that the PS4's memory architecture won't support backwards compatibility for PS3 games, if you want to play Skyrim you'll need to get a PS3 in any case. It may be worth waiting for the PS4 to come out, though if the pricing trends of the PS2 after the PS3 release are any indicator that won't significantly drive the price down.

I don't know for sure, but I highly highly doubt PS4 will have backwards compatibility with Skyrim (don't know about other PS3 games). I read something about the PS4 has hardware that is closer to the hardware found in a PC or something, meaning that it won't be as difficult for programmers to put new games on it.
But if I had to place a bet, I'm putting money on no backwards compatibility. So get a PS3 while it's cheap if you want to, but don't wait for the PS4. It'll be WAy overly expensive when it comes out, anyways.

I'd heard that they're going to a different CPU architecture. So the older games would have to run through an emulator, which would be very bad for performance - i.e. you might as well run them on your old box.
It's likely the CPU and GPU cores will be on the same die. AMD and Intel are both doing that, and nVidia talking about it.
The PS4 (and the next-gen Xbox) will be using CPU's that are PC-compatible, so the development systems will produce code that works on all of the platforms. The UI's will still need to be coded to match the controller/keyboard/mouse available, but the core engine will be common. It remains to be seen if Sony insist on platform exclusives and spoil that for the players.

Lady Saga, in the UK a brand new 500GB PS3 (which is the only size available in the largest high st. retailer at the mo) is a pence shy of £250...And insurance against its sudden death etc is just shy of £60 on top...I've seen Skyrim for £20, but it's most likely to be around the £30 mark...
I'm not sure about the exchange rate to see how expensive that would be in dollars, and I'm also not sure of what that would be where Microu is...But it's definitely not something you do lightly...

The business model for the consoles is to sell the hardware at a loss, and make the money on the software (games). Free content hurts the bottom line, so they try and prevent it. However, if they could make an income from the transfer of mods from PC to console, they might go for it. Right now, it looks like mods would displace sales of other games, so they don't like it.

My understanding is that every game developer has to pay Microsoft/Sony to release every patch on their respective networks. So I am sure MicroSony would want to be paid for every mod they allow to be distributed on their networks as well. Which is of course completely in opposition to the free sharing of content that is the cornerstone of modding.

I'm not really talking about mods. I'm talking about the ability to make simple CK tweaks. Slow the timescale down. Make bandits friendly to my bandit character. That sort of thing.
From what I understand, a mod is an entire package of CK commands? What if the gamer just wants to make a few very simple tweaks, which are garnered as 'safe' to do, in the sense that these tweaks are guaranteed not to break the system?

Hubby had bought the kinect a while back and I had the hardest time figuring it out before. I guess he figured it out because when I went to freeze some ice wolves, the bumper wasn't working. I noticed the little icon up top and push down the bumper, say "Iiz" and let go. It worked. COOL.

Yeah, and the little light on the sound sensor has be green, not red. If it's red, it's not positioned right.
Also: what I do is I have the sensor thingie positioned right next to my bed. I game in bed.

Anyways, since it's no more than 3 feet away from me, this helps it "hear" me, so I don't have to shout! ...the commands are all interchangable too, which means if you run out of (let's say) spell commands, it's possible to assign some unused weapon commands for spells.
I like it. It's like having roughly 50 extra hotkeys, only these extra hotkeys are voice-commanded.

Woo HOO killed my first dragon!!! .. My test character, Uber Kness, an Imperial Fighter/Magic-user (much more of a fighter, though) dealt the final blow to um....Mirmulnir. He did this final blow with his giant battleaxe, so it was uber-epic!
It didn't seem that tough, but then again, Uber had a lot of help from about a dozen other NPCs. I'm wondering what'll happen if he meets a dragon by himself.
Best not to think about that for now...
EDIT: the NPCs all want him to "shout", and I finally figured out how to do so.

I might have trouble trying to RP this, though. Uber is suppsosed to be kind of a knumbskull, he's no dragonborn! . It'll be weird trying to place him on the same level as a Martin Septim or a Pelinal Whitestrake.

So Uber Kness fired Jenassa, so he could have Lydia as a follower. I noticed that as soon as Jenassa got fired, she walked down stairs to the lower floor of the Bannered Mare (all this happened in the Bannered Mare), grabbed a tankard from somewhere, and immediately began swaying to the music being played by the bard.
