The guards actually have a rather large (for TES) vocabulary of things to say, unlike the bulk of townspeople. If I hear that lady say "Short spoons, handsome man in Falkreath" one more time.....

There's this attitude some non-Skyrim gamers have that all guards say is "arrow to the knee", but I rarely hear that line. They actually have dozens of things to day, and some of them are location-specific.

I like the restoration line. Seems like the guards are the nicest to my Khajiit. Everybody else is like "what do you want cat." Even some of the people she's helped! What a slap in the face!

Lol "what do you want cat?" I gotta play a cat-person at some point, that would never get old!

Apparently they said it so much when the game came out they had to patch it to where their other dialogue came up more.

So I've heard.

Then again, the "Arrow to the knee" line is hilarious. I didn't hear it too often so maybe it was everyone else?

I hear that "arrow to the knee" line so often I'm sick of it. It was funny at first but it really gets old after the ten-thousandth time of hearing it

I do not hear it very much either. I hear the other remarks more often, like: "this dull old blade can barely cut butter", or "why don't you brew me an ale."

My favorite one? "Conjure me a bed" lol

I still can' beleve that arrow in the knee became a meme and popular on the internet. It even was used in a CSI television show! I guess Skyrim got even more (in)famous due to that line.

I saw it like no less than three days after the game came out here XD

There was one mod, I think it was a PC mod, where if you actually DID get an arrow to the knee, a menu screen would pop up and say "You took an arrow to the knee. You can no longer adventure. What would you like to be?" and the choices were town guard, shopkeeper or beggar XD

To me this battle line was new, because this is my first Khajiit character ever. One bandit said: You are like my aunt's cat, I killed that too" or something along those lines

Yep, I hear that a lot with my character. Then she kills them.

I don't get it either. Everyone says it's funny, but I still don't get the humor. *shrugs* It just sounds painful to me.

My favorite guard quote is: Let me guess...Someone stole your sweetroll. There's this one actor that says it almost in a mocking way..he's the one that always kills me.

My least favorite guard saying is: "So you're in the Companions? So you what....fetch them mead?" That's the only line I can think of that bugs the compassion out of me.

It's funny because as the main character, how many times have you been shot in the knee? The face? Set on fire? Frozen? Snatched up and tossed around by a dragon? Fell off a cliff? Gotten hacked and slashed at? Yet you're STILL an adventurer XD

And that always irks me. I HATE that line so hard lol

Seconded; this little (slightly sweary) gem of a video basically encapsulates the response I always want to give them. They may have been adventurers, but they were not adventurers like me!

The plus side of that line did result in my friend Tim making an amazing 'Whiterun Guard with an Arrow in his Knee' costume a while back.

The other day I found an awesome easter egg from 'Fall of the Space Core', the silly piece of mini-DLC you got to celebrate the release of the Steam Workshop, on one of the loading screens; just the Space Core itself with the line; 'Space is the thing you see above Tamriel when you walk around at night looking upwards.' For a Portal 2 fan like me, that line was an absolute joy.

SPEW! Really have to assume that a single-handed taking over of Skyrim would be an easy day's work, all you need is a handfull of arrows and a bow.

Arrows and bows? I can summon a dragon with my voice, the dragonborn doesn't need to give arrow-related knee injuries. -gets killed by forsworn- DAMN! I should have at least used a crossbow. If you think an arrow to the knee is bad, imagine a bolt from a crossbow to the knee -shudders-

Every time I hear that a arrow to the knee joke I feel like This

So...I was exploring around Windstad Manor and around a shipwreck I see this pulsating spherical light...guess what happens when I go near it? Wispy things come at me. Apparently it's an aftershock from the Eye of Magnus quest. Now I have to go to Tolfdir and find the others.

Hmm this is ringing a bell, but I don't remember if I've done this or not. Probably have....

I ran into it on my first playthrough (before my brother took my xbox apart) but don't remember anything about it. I just avoided the whirly lights lol.

Sometimes if you talk to tolfdir, he will tell you that one of those things has opened up somewhere and that you need to close it. When you do close it and you return to him, you will get paid.

Lol, so I have to ask why on Earth would he do that?

Something about modding. It was a 60 GB Xbox with Wifi. I paid $200 for it (refurbished) and cried when he did that. That was my own money. I had never bought a gaming console with my own money before. So you know how he repaid me? He got his dad to get me a brand new...4 GB xbox. So...now I have to put all of my games on flashdrives or delete games. I took my harddrive with me though. I think. My husband insists that my brother sold it to HIS brother for 5 bucks.

You know...my middle brother is kind of a douche.

Ouch that hurts. The fact that he gave you a lesser model back than you started with is even worse than what he did in the first place. Christ.

On the other hand, this story has taught me a lesson. I've been tempted to mess with my game in the past, I know how to do it. But there's no way I'm gonna risk destroying my box, not after reading that story! sheesh!

After months of playing this game, today I finally saw the Headless Horseman! I was surprised, since it was on the road near the Meridia temple. I thought he spawned around Rorikstead. I tried to follow him, but D'Eon's spindly Breton legs just could not keep up.

I haven't seen him in a long time, but when I did it was outside of Whiterun on the road.

I tried following him too once(never could find him after that one time) but couldn't keep up. Supposedly he leads you to treasure.

Oh my god that horseman freaked me out first time I saw him. Rode right past my character flying by near Whiterun ZOOM! and scared the crap out of me! It was over a year ago that I saw him first. I've probably witnessed the headless horseman about a half dozen times since.

So these 3 'soldiers' came up to Lord Haaf-Mersey as he wandered thru some outback area. They demanded 100 gold, which he refused to pay. He fought and rid them. Thta is not the "new thing" I am reporting. I have seen these soldiers at least 6 or 7 times with other chars. now.

I've never noticed before: once he went back to the initial area where the 'soldiers' were, he found three dead Imperial soldiers on the ground, They had been stripped of their armor! It was as if they had been attacked by the 'soldiers', lost the fight, and the 'soldiers' now took their stuff!

That's what I love about this game. Yeah, its quest lines are shorter, and many people think they're shallow, but Skyrim's depth (to me) is all the little stories that happen here and there; how there's a lot of cause and effect being portratyed. This stuff is so easy to miss!

I agree. The little touches are what makes the ES games great. It certainly is not the larger storylines!

If you catch them later on, they have mismatched armor.

The little quests make the game for me. Yeah, ending the civil war/killing Alduin/learning the Thu'um is great, but those details are wonderful. Like the dead lovers at the camp? That broke my heart. Or the dead Breton girl who was robbed then tried to get revenge on the bandits who took her family heirloom? I loved it.

That is the thing, there's a lot of subtle little things hidden in the game, aren't there?



YOu know what? I think your'e right. There was something "off" about what they were wearing, it didn't exactly look 100% like Imperial armor! Next time this happens I will see if I can remember to look at their armor.

I remember the first time I ran into those guys. I was immediately suspicious because the leader was an orc. How many orc legionaries have you seen in Skyrim or Oblivion? None. The in-game books claim that many orcs serve in the legion, but we never see a single one in the games. So my spidey sense was tingling. Then he start stumbling over his words "yeah, a toll, yeah, you gotta pay us." And that was all I needed to pull out my weapon and get ready for a brawl!

I saw three vampires fighting a werewolf

I missed that one!

It was funny. The werewolf sent one of the vampires flying back like 30 feet in one blow, and the vampire got back up and kept fighting

I've never seen a werewolf in game except me, and the select few on the Companions quests.


I just found an enchanted crossbow...
