Looks good bird!

I tried to do some digging for our bee garden. I just can't. My back hurts in minutes.

I have about another 5 sqft that needs sod removed and it hurts to dig.

I should pay some able bodied young man to do this lol.

Thanks, guys!

That's actually version 2.0 as I had to redo parts of it in order to get the tin roof in under the other one. Otherwise it would have gotten neck-and-neck which I didn't want.

@Saki - Yes! Pay Mikael to dig! biggrin.gif
Sakiri
But he's not able bodied. Or young. Lol

Project: Make car startable
Status: Complete....I hope

I noticed earlier yesterday morning, starting the car for my driving to the hospital for testing, that it struggled a bit before 'catching'. Odd that, considering the battery is hardly a month old, if that. Didn't think much of it as I had an important appointment to keep. Fast-forward to leaving the hospital following tests. The motor made a feeble attempt to turn, then went completely dead. Not even a clicking sound. Left the car. Popped open the hood. All looked well at the battery. Luckily, a fellow was sitting in a car near me. He offered to give my car a jump provided I had cables. I did. Cables connected, I retreated to the car and fired it up. Nothing. We're both at a loss. Maybe alternator? I try again. Nothing. Then, all of a sudden, the car starts, easy as can be. The fellow said all he did was jiggle the battery negative terminate clamp, which apparently wasn't making good contact with its post.

Car running, I drove straight home, changed into a mess-around shirt, grabbed tools, and attempted to tighten the clamp screw. The entire clamp assembly was in such bad shape I could do nothing with it. Gave up after about 15min of fruitless effort. Luckily, the car started again, though it struggled a bit before catching. Drove to my local mechanic, who took one look and pronounced that clamp beyond salvation. It was replaced, parts and labor around $15US. Haven't attempted to start the car since returning home, but hope for the best. I'll try and remember to give it a test start when I check mail later.

Looking back, I'm darn lucky the clamp waited until I was at the hospital before malfunctioning. I know of no way I could have made my appointment had the car not started that morning. Not on such short notice.

Project: Survive Brain Doctor visit
Status: Miracles 'do' happen, even to me

About a month ago the clinic informed me that the brain doc who has 'seen' me for decades no longer practices there. I was assigned a new brain doctor. (duh!) Today was my first visit with the new doc. It was a pleasant experience. (It helped that this new doc is a rather lovely female, as well as a (seemingly) nice person.)

Also, my visit occurred during a several-hour-long period in which the thick fog that normally envelops my brain partially dissipated. It's the first time that's happened in years! I'd forgotten what having a reasonably clear mind feels like. I found myself cheerfully gabbing with (and sometimes cracking jokes with) staff and fellow patients. Quite the opposite to my normal morose (but not unkind) self. What's more, I aced the memory test. I've been administered that test almost every visit forever and never done that before. I likely never will again.

Project: Grocery Run
Status: Complete
This was your normal run-of-the-mill, only with my mind still reasonably clear and me disgustingly cheerful. I suppose it's worth mentioning that this is the first day Walmart required all customers to wear masks. I'm happy to report everyone did so. Not a single 'Karen' in sight. I, of course, wore gloves in addition to a mask. I'm the only one who does so. Makes no sense to me, but the world is what it is. (The gloves I wear make it super easy to open produce-section plastic bags. I might continue to wear them if and when the pandemic subsides.)

For good or ill, brain fog moved back in right after lunch, which I ate immediately after putting away groceries.

Well, from the sound of it maybe now you can look forward to your brain doctor appointments, Decrepit! wink.gif laugh.gif

Project: 'emergency' Walmart run
Status: complete

I used the last of a jar of Sugar-Free Blueberry Jam during breakfast this morning. Fast-forward to lunch. I opened my kitchen pantry to grab another jar, the one bought this Monday. It wasn't there. In its place stood an unopened jar of WowButter, which I didn't need to buy this week. An obvious brain-fart mistake during this Monday's grocery run. My first thought was to do without until next week's run. I then recalled that, due to a Tuesday morning medical appointment, that run is postponed a day. Additionally, a kitchen overhead-light bulb went kaput yesterday. To my dismay, I was out of spare bulbs of the required wattage. Off to Walmart I went, for those two items plus a large 'paper clamp' to better secure one end of my computer desk LED lighting strip.

It's been a very long time since I last replaced a light-bulb. The world of lighting has changed since then. Mini florescents have disappeared from shelves, replaced by LED bulbs! Whether this is a good or bad thing I know not.

Bulb replacement was fraught with peril. A combination of owning only a tiny (maybe 2ft) step ladder, a life-long morbid fear of heights, and unsteady balance due to the ravages of age, led to it taking three attempts to complete the process. Attempt one, I successfully unscrewed the old bulb, but got to shaking so severely from being an additional two-feet off the ground atop a wobbly ladder that I couldn't properly thread the new bulb into its socket. I was too unnerved to navigate the ladder steps, so resorted to simply ignoring them, dropping to the floor, and hoping for the best. Scary, but it worked. Attempt two was aborted part way up the ladder due to nerves. Attempt three, I made it up the ladder, successfully screwed in the new bulb, and descended the ladder via its steps. Last time I replaced a bulb it wasn't anywhere near as big a deal. I was just as afraid of heights back then, and the step ladder was no taller or more sturdy. The difference is that I was some years younger and more hardy, better able to cope with and overcome my limitations. One thing for sure, I need a full-size, sturdy ladder before tackling anything like this again!

Adding the clamp to my computer-desk keyboard tray was no picnic either, the clamping being a bit to tall while attaching. Luckily, I could see that it would fit properly once attached and locked in place. Took a lot of fancy footwork and elbow grease to move it into position, but I managed it.

I'm going to need to get off my duff and finish researching currently available ergonomic keyboards. Typing this has caused the top of my right hand to ache.

Project: Prepare state/county/local internet due taxes-due payment for internet purchases
Statue: Ready for posting
Did so first thing this morning, soon as the computer was up and running. As with several previous internet purchase tax-due payments, this one covers multiple months, Jun - Aug 2020 to be exact. Heck, I could have held out longer. But it gets harder to keep track of with every added month. As before, I owe only the county/local portion, state tax being applied at time of purchase.

Project: Apply for Jury Excusal for my mom
Status: Will Apply for Excusal this morning
My brother called yesterday, informing me that our mom has been selected for Jury Duty during Oct 2020. I'll call the number given on the summons soon as that department opens and apply for excusal on her behalf. Seeing as she's been dead these sixteen years I have hopes that my request will be granted. If not, I'll point out that, prior to her demise, she suffered seizures, wasn't allowed to drive a vehicle, and had hearing worse than mine. Death might have ended her seizures, but I can guaranty it hasn't done squat for her hearing.

(Why in the world is a 93 yr old women, which mom would be were she still with us, still on the summons list?)

I've had a passport since I first internationally traveled in the early 1960s. And I've renewed it every 10 years as it is getting ready to expire. Such was the occasion this summer. So when I put my passport renewal application together (with some fine help from the Department of State website and my local post office), I learned that the pandemic had pretty much shut them down for a time and they were way behind catching up. Their message was allow lots of time for processing. I sent off my package in mid June and the post office confirmed they delivered it a few days later. Then I notice that the check for my processing fee had cleared which was encouraging. Then I waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, my shiny new passport arrived this past week. My point being that if you need to renew or obtain a US passport, allow lots of time at the moment. Lol.

I called about mom's Jury Sommons. Interestingly, we're in the jury 'pool' as long as we live. However, the lady I spoke with says that old folk are excused without hassle if they request it. That of course isn't our issue. The lady implied that if I shot her an email stating that mom is deceased she'll remove her permanently from the pool. I did so, requesting email conformation. I've not yet heard back from her (or that office). If I get no email tomorrow I'll call again and make sure all's well.

Project: Medical Appointment
Status: Done
A Pulmonology appointment to be exact. All went as expected (no significant changes, either good or ill). The worst part of the trip was getting into my car for the drive to the clinic. Due to heavy rains, water had crept up my driveway higher than my shoe tops on the driver's side of the car. Luckily, the driveway slants a bit so that the passenger side was enterable. Getting into driving position remained an issue. My poor decrepit knees and hips aren't sturdy/flexible enough to maneuver around the 'shifter' without a good bit of effort and no small amount of pain. I almost gave up the attempt and changed into tall rubber boots. My knees still bother me, so I suppose I should have done so.

Bought groceries on the way home. Nothing to report there except that those wretched looking shipped-in deli kiosk sammichs were nowhere to be seen. The store-made sammich I bought was yummy. Plenty of meat, and fresh bread! (I remove the pickles, as they are a migraine hazard.)

Could your Brother come replace the bulbs for you? I can't reach mine at all; and climbing on top of the washing machine and dangling across from that height to reach the light was no option = I'd fall just thinking about it. I had to wait about a month for my son to replace the bulb in the utility room; and did all my laundry by the meager daylight coming from a very small window until he got around to it.

You should talk to the VA about that; they might have someone who can come do things like that for you. My friend locally that I play ESO with has the VA pay for people to come to her house and do most of her household chores because she just can't do them; (she was Navy).

BOLD: Agreed; not worth the effort for sure.

My Credit Union charges for sending paper statements; they want everyone to bank online now. I really like the paper statement; but didn't want to pay for it. So what I do is to take the "free" online banking option; but every time I visit the bank for anything I have them print me out a statement for the previous 2-3 months. It is actually costing them more to print them out for me each time than it would cost them to just give me the old free statement they used to give me.

I didn't know that about pickles! Is it from the extremely high sodium content?

<nods> They can be. These things can be tricky, as sufferers can be susceptible or immune to any given food/drink on any given trigger list. Here's the appropriate section of the first such list I found online:

Article Name: Foods That Trigger Migraines

"8. Pickled and fermented foods

Like aged cheeses, pickled and fermented foods can contain high amounts of tyramine. These foods include:

pickles
kimchi
kombucha (which can also have alcoholic content)
pickled okra
pickled jalapeños"

Those times I forget to remove pickles, I almost always get a 'buzzy' head and often a light headache that feels as if might develop into a migraine. Luckily, buzziness & minor head pain tend to vanish within a relative short time (an hour or two) without worsening or requiring treatment. They have, however, occasionally persisted and morphed into bona fide migraines. On those rare occasions I'm never sure if this is due to pickles alone, or pickles in conjunction with some other potential trigger.

Project: circa 25min exercise-walk
Status: done and over with

This was my first full-duration exercise-walk since last summer's mowing-in-too-much-heat incident. There have been several aborted walking attempts in the interim, one late-fall 2019, one early spring 2020. During each of those, it was obvious very early on that I was in no way recovered enough to physically stress myself to any appreciable degree. As for today's walk, it didn't clear any of the constant grogginess I've experienced since waking this morning. My right knee bothered me more than years past. (Discounting those years both knees hurt so much I feared I was wheelchair bound.) But, I did walk the entire route at something approaching my 'normal' exercise-walk speed without huffing or puffing. That's an improvement. (I did not, however, attempt a short power-walk at route end, once common practice.)

My hope is that I'll feel up to walking again today, weather permitting. We shall see.

Project- Non-Elder Scrolls version of "Blood on the Moon", with the goal of publishing on Kindle Direct.

Working Title- "The Unnamed"

Current status- Almost 87000 words in, with some 75% being new material, mostly providing additional background, world-building, and integration of Athynae into the story from the beginning. That means Book 1- (working title, "Challenge Accepted") is 95% complete, plus approximately 25% of Book 2 (no title yet).

Projected- given word/page count of the original, plus continued expansion, likely 6+ full-length (200-300 Kindle page) novels, plus unknown number of collected shorter pieces.

Immediate goal- complete first draft of "Challenge Accepted", begin proof-reading and editing for consistency.

Excitement level on scale of 1 to 10- 8.5 = freaking out.

I'm afraid the voter rolls aren't much more accurate. My grandmother got stuff mailed to her for years after she died. Absentee ballots and stuff.

Not sure how either, I'm almost certain you have to request those.

Today's walk didn't feel as 'comfortable' as yesterdays, but posed no difficulties. I miss being able to hear birds chirping atop street-side trees. Thankfully, I still hear approaching vehicles. And my ears ringing, of course. I can't decide whether that's gotten louder, or become more noticeable due to hearing fewer sounds that might otherwise mask it. Heart reading, measured after returning from walk: BP 100/61, pulse 82. That's better than yesterday's 115/70, 86, imo.

Today, first of Autumn, I walked in precipitation that began as mild drizzle, then settled into a sort of heavy shower / light soaker rain. Cool too. I wore an insulated top beneath my sweat shirt, exercise-shorts atop my sweat pants. Light toboggan of course. An umbrella was carried and used the entire route. This walk further confirms that my walking shoes are due for replacement. A new pair was ordered off Amazon yesterday.

As for the walk itself, it wasn't one of my best. I huffed and puffed too much by the end of its three uphill segments, and again during its closing brief 'power walk'. Nor did it clear my grogginess, though this might be due to having taken a powerful prescription sleeping pill last night.

Heart reading taken within minutes of my return: Blood Pressure 91/61, Pulse 80.

24 Sep ADDENDUM:
Another exercise-walk under solid overcast skies. No rain this time, though I carried an umbrella just in case. Right-knee acted up a bit after the halfway point, but largely worked itself out by the two-thirds mark.

Heart reading taken within minutes of my return: Blood Pressure 101/69, Pulse 79.

Project- Challenge Accepted, the first part of The Unnamed (total rewrite of Blood on the Moon)

Status- final draft completed at 7:00 p.m. today

Metrics- 91760 words, 160 pages

Content- almost entirely new material, giving Athynae (more than) equal billing from the beginning.

Next step- sending electronic copy to beta readers and biting fingernails all the way to my elbow.

Important announcement- If not for you fine and patient folks, this would NEVER have happened. Still a long way to go--- the "original" was over 600 pages, and I have only skimmed the tiniest bit of that existing writing. But... the support of everyone here kept the writing going, with all the fits and starts.

Congrats, trey! Best wishes with this exciting endeavor!

I might have missed something. Rewriting? Is it a fanfic you're going to publish?

That's a lot of writing. I used to do short stories but could never get into longer ones.
treydog
So--- yes. The "original" was based on the Bloodmoon expansion to Morrowind, and was planned to complete the main game, plus expansions. And it was going to be... short. Which did not happen. Thirteen YEARS and 600 pages later... it was done. Lurking somewhere on page one of the Fan-fiction section.

With much prodding from Mrs. Treydog, I have finally gotten around to remaking that story into something NOT based on the Elder Scrolls- thus avoiding a copyright trap. So--- The Unnamed Saga.... which is going to be some number of volumes (undetermined at this time- have to write them).

How much of the story is actually impacted by the unique locations of Solstheim and Vvardenfell? I would imagine reworking that would be quite a task!

Project: Create and post DFU crawl video
Status: <sighs>

On a whim I decided to 'film' the first some minutes of my DFU avatars' most recent dungeon crawl. Turns out, he made all the right navigation decisions, so reached his goal in a relatively short time-span. Short enough that I will be able to upload the entire crawl and aftermath. Problem is, having never prepared a Daggerfall video, and being super rusty at video prep in general, I've no idea what sort of text narrative to type. I stare and stare at the capture. Nothing comes. Thankfully there's no rush.

Project: daily exercise-walks
Status: <sighs>
I was doing rather well for a while there. Then mid last week I started feeling poorly. I stuck with it another day or two, then threw in the towel. Three days now of no walks. Likely more to come. We shall see.
Sakiri
Treydog,

Sounds like quite the task! Buy you can do it!!

Decrepit,

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. I know that all too well. I don't like walking alone and husband is always tired or feeling unwell.

Decrepit,

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. I know that all too well. I don't like walking alone and husband is always tired or feeling unwell.

<nods> I started feeling better during yesterday morning's grocery run and felt rather decent by lunchtime. That held through the rest of the day. I seem to have relapsed overnight, but am still in better shape that I was the latter half of last week.

Project: Find TMJ lower teeth 'splint'
Status: Done
Having attempted sleeping on my back in bed last night, I woke at 0244 this morning to discover that my TMJ 'splint' wasn't in my mouth. My first thought was that I'd simply forgotten to don it before bedtime. Walked to its bathroom sink countertop contain. Not there! My next thought was that I removed it just prior to going to bed in order to swallow medicine, then forgot to stick it back in. In that case it would be sitting on a kitchen countertop. Nope. I next searched the bed. No. It's surroundings. Didn't see it. I couldn't see myself swallowing it, and at any rate had no way to double-check that. A second bed search at last found it, housed within the folds of the rolled small towel I use instead of a pillow when lying on my back. My great worry was warping from drying out, which thankfully doesn't seem to have occurred. Fits as well as it ever did.

Project: Prepare Sep 2020 state tax submission for internet purchases
Status: Dreading it!
This is going to be a challenging month. I made a goodly number of smallish online purchases. Several added both state and local tax at time of purchase. Several added state but not local tax. Several didn't add any tax.
I'm going to have to be very careful and double-check all these transactions, and still might get it wrong. I wish online 'stores' would offer the option of letting us tack on these due taxes. it wouldn't be hard to implement. Just a checkbox saying something like: "I need to pay state/local tax on this purchase". Then a field to type in the required percent (8.5% in my case, for state/local combined). Voilà, done! Short and simple, no forms/checks to fill out and mail. Folk whose states don't require online purchase tax payments don't have to opt in.

Project: When it rains it pours wacko.gif
Status: Bloody 'ell! panic.gif

I swear. If it's not one thing it's another. First I feel poorly for an extended period. Then potential loss of internet/phone service rears its ugly head. That was put to rest yesterday afternoon. I was at last able to resume research for this coming Tuesday's Sleep Apnea treatment decision appointment.

Fast-forward to this morning. I composed a posted a number of comments on these forums, then piddled around on the web. Around 0600 nature calls. I traipse to the nearest porcelain convenience. I sit and begin to do my thing. I then wonder, "Why is water covering the bathroom floor?" My next thought is, "I known why." I quickly finish business and rush to the hot water heater closet. Sure enough, leaking. I turn off its flow control (behind the unit.) An extended period is spent mopping up water. Mostly from the bathroom and bottom of the water heater closet. A bit from the kitchen floor. Thankfully, the floor slopes ever-so-slightly toward the bathroom, which of course isn't carpeted. Between that and noticing it as early as I did, no carpeting was saturated, other than from my shoes.

The sun rose. I visited my next-door-neighbor, a handyman for some years prior to retirement. He's going to provide names to contact for a replacement heater once back from a morning therapy treatment. In the meantime I'm on a holding pattern. As I see it, replacement will likely occur early next week at the soonest. I therefore called the Clinic's Sleep Center and moved my appointment to the 27th, to be on the safe side.

Decrepit, sorry to hear about your water heater but glad there seems to be no damage.

Urgh, hot water heater issues are never any fun. You can get a cheap replacement from places like "Home Depot" or "Lowes" = but those are a two year fix at best; and usually only warrantied for half of that. Better to pay a little higher and get at least a ten year warranty, imho. I used to get mine for all my houses from Sears, (the good ones with the glass water containers). They cost a lot more than most; but they lasted a long time past their warranties.

Sakiri
sad.gif aww that's no good! Water heater issues stink.

Hope you get it fixed soon!

Project Blanket hasn't gotten any work in two days. First the hospital now other stuff. Really need to get on it, I've only got two months.

Project: Replace hot water heater
Status: ongoing, potential good news

Following a bleak, dispiriting beginning, it looks as though I might have a new heater installed by this time tomorrow! A combination of my neighbor getting a unit for me from his pre-retirement supplier, and shopping around until I found a plumber who will do the install for $250 (plus a bit extra if positioning proves difficult, as was the case last time). Much depends on whether my neighbor can get the part to me by noon tomorrow. <crosses fingers>

Project: Prepare for Sleep Apnea treatment choice appointment
Status: Delayed

This morning I called the Clinic Sleep Center and moved this coming Tuesday's appointment to 27 Oct. It's for the best. I'm nowhere near as studied as I need to be before committing to any one treatment. At the moment I'm too frazzled to focus on it, and will likely remain so through tomorrow at the earliest. Better to give myself time research what needs researching.

I lucked out a bit in this regard. My neighbor, the one helping me acquire a heater, turns out to be a Sleep Apnea sufferer using CPAP. He showed me his setup and discussed getting supplies/replacement parts. Good food for thought, though not as helpful as could have been as he's not yet on Medicare. (He's about to. I'm giving him pointers on the switchover.)

One wrong assumption of mine you'll likely find silly. I thought air for CPAP was supplied by a big tank like skin divers wear, one that needs periodic refilling. Turns out it's just a smallish unit that pump out more or less regular air, not some fancy oxygen blend housed in an airtight container.

Later afternoon / early evening Addendum:

Project: Replace leaking Hot Water Heater
Status: Done!
My neighbor cut it close, returning with the unit about 1145, 15 min shy of the noon deadline. Was called by the installation company circa 1215 to confirm that the unit had reached me. Installers arrived...well, I'm not sure when they arrived. I was pretty burned out by then. No snags with installation, except for one scare early on when an installer asked if I had purchased a 'slim' unit, which my narrow closet requires. I had no idea, knowing nothing about water heater closet width restrictions. Either my neighbor knew I needed a 'slim' or I lucked out, coz that's what he bought for me. Installers departed at 1601, my customary supper time to the minute. I of course wasn't able to prepare supper then, as kitchen and bathroom needed to be returned to normal.

Total cost, unit plus installation: $796US. A bitter pill to swallow, but not a bad price. The weak-link is the unit itself, about as bottom-of-the-barren as you can get. That's a problem with hot water heaters, I don't think about them until they malfunction, and then it's too late to do any series research.

Project: Call AT&T about new internet service data-limit
Status: I plan to do so tomorrow
The rep who set up my new service said it includes unlimited monthly data. Confirmation email received from AT&T shows unlimited data. Yet when I checked data usage through myAT&T this morning it showed that I've used "xxxxx of 1tb". That's obviously not unlimited. What's more, I now seem to burn through data significantly faster than before the upgrade. Yet I do nothing different: watch lots of YouTube at 1080p, make an occasional smallish download. (I've uploaded nothing to YouTube since upgrading.) With my 'old' service I never had to worry about the 1tb monthly data limit because my DL speed was too slow to use up that much data in a single month. I now can burn through the entire 1tb and more! Ergo, I need to try and have my unlimited status restored, assuming what I saw this morning isn't a fluke that'll correct itself in a day or so.

Saturday morning ADDENDUM:

Project: Call AT&T about new internet service data-limit
Status: On hold, keeping an eye on it.
The AT&T page implying I still have a 1tb monthly data cap seemed 'off' somehow. This morning, a new message there says to check back tomorrow due to this being the first day of a new billing cycle. l now suspect that what I saw until this today reflects my old Basis-6 service rather than fiber-optic. Hopefully tomorrow with see a switch to unlimited. We shall see.

Project "The Re-Imagined Athynae and Athlain Show"--- or whatever title it will end up having...

Book 1- Final draft, 90000 words, completed and waiting for feedback from beta readers.

Book 2- First draft, 45000 words, with the last 2 weeks being extremely (and for me, frighteningly) productive.
I have a general idea of the "broad strokes" for other major pieces that will need to be added.

Overall project- percolating in what passes for my brain, still no idea of eventual length.

Project: replace kitchen sink faucet aerator
Status: done
The old aerator was destroyed during flow tests immediately following water-heater replacement. I noticed the damage only later. Tried to research the part I needed online but didn't know its name so had no success. Took its outer housing to Home Depot this morning. A floor assistant was able to point me to what I needed. Cost? Roughly $4.40US including tax (and military discount). Installed it soon as I got home.

Project: Double-check possible internet monthly data-cap error and call AT&T to correct it if necessary
Status: Done
This turned out to be a non-event. When I checked less than an hour ago, AT&T now reflects my new service's promised 'unlimited' data. What's more, it no longer looks as if the new service churns through data at a higher rate than my old service (when comparing like activity).
Sakiri
Good good. You shouldn't use much more data than you were before unless you changed your usage habits.

As a side note, I live having higher speeds. DL a 80 gig game in 20 minutes tops. Lol.
