Deep dish square pizzas are big here in Detroit. Buddy's and Jets made the list, and they are really good. But there is a little family-owned pizzeria called Holiday Pizza right by my place that makes what I think is the best pizza I have ever eaten. Downtown there are places in Greektown like Pizzapapalis that do a super deep dish, but I have never tried it.
When it comes to Corned Beef, there is a little Greek mom and pop restaurant near me called House of Reubens that makes the best Reuben Sandwiches. Because of all the factories around it gets so busy there during lunchtime on weekdays, that I only go there on the weekends. The line is literally out the door. There have also been times that I swear I saw the entire Sterling Heights Police Department in there eating their lunch (they like Holiday Pizza too).
Ball Park franks are really nothing to brag about. The best store-bought hot dogs are Koegels. They make them here in Michigan. Best hot dog ever. Buy the Viennas, not the Frankenfurters though.
The Hani Sandwiches from National Coney Island are really good as well. But I think their Taco Salad is the best thing on their menu. Instead of simply putting taco beef in the bottom, they put chili!
Packzi (pronunced Poo-nch Key) is a Detroit staple. Back in the day Hamtramck was all Polish, and every year on Fat Tuesday the Packzi's come out all over the city. In New Orleans they have Mardi Gras. In Detroit we eat incredibly fattening sugar doughnuts...
Pretty much the same with Peirogi, except it doesn't have its own special day.
Mexicantown didn't get a mention in that article, and you can get a lot of great Mexican street food there during Cinco De Mayo. My ex Jaelyn lived down there for a while. There is a place called Mexican Village up Van Dyke from me that makes fantastic tacos with deep fried shells. That is another place that is always so busy that I almost never go there. The wait time is over an hour on the weekends.
Poutine is on that list, but its not really a Detroit thing. It is more a Canadian thing.
Saganaki is a Detroit classic. "Opa!" is what they shout when they light it on fire. It is something you have to eat at least once in your life. It's an experience!
TBH, I have never heard of a lot of stuff on that list. What we do have is a lot of really good ethnic foods thanks to local enclaves, like Polish, Greek, and Mexican.
What is also not on the list is Tony's. Its off I-75 up past Flint. They aren't known for their good food, but rather for their massive portions. The BLT sandwiches are too big to fit in your mouth. They must have a pound of bacon alone! (and I am not exaggerating!). Nothing screams 'Merica! more than that.

It is a real mixed blessing when you find a restaurant so good that people swarm the place - you know you will have a taste sensation of a lifetime; but the wait makes your ability to even try it an iffy thing.
I haven't had Peirogi since I was a kid; my neighbor used to make it and stuff me with them - she is the one that got me into cooking; she was a gourmet.
OMG, BLT is about my favorite sandwich (especially here in ETN where you can get Grainger County Tomatoes) - and I have been banned from eating bacon.

That description alone of bacon stacked so thick you can't open your mouth wide enough to bite the sandwich could put me into cardiac arrest,
I've had the square deep dish in Chicago, but I don't know if it is the same. I think a Greek pizza sounds VERY interesting; as long as it is NOT made with Lamb. Urk.
We have a small family owned pizza place (close to where I moved to!) that has the best pizza's I've ever had EVAH; they are always so busy that people stand up to eat or sit in their cars for blocks around there on the lunch hour. I used to eat there once per week when I was working near there - our whole office would get together and go for lunch there; but we had a plan that included calling our order in well in advance and going to lunch early that day before the lunch crowds hit.
Opa! Ha, in German that is GrandFather; in South America they shout it when dancing in some areas. I wonder if it is a Greek thing too?
This all sounds so good! And now I'm hungry,
