We had intended the coffee shop to be a nice place where people could talk about their daily activities and such, kinda like the Lurkers Lair on the Official Forums.
It didn't quite turn out that way though, people have been taking advantage of their freedoms in here, there has been a lot of spamming and even some flaming. We will not tolerate that any longer.
So unfortunately we've had to decide to increase the rules for this thread. Of course the normal forum rules still apply, but we'll elaborate here.:
1. No spamming. We consider double posting and posting posts with only a few words to be spam. If you do that your post will be deleter or moved, do it too often and you might receive a warning for it.
We also consider chit-chat spam. This forum has a special chat channel for chatting, you're welcome to go there, and chat with other members or with the staff as we're always there, doing it in here is not allowed.
The address to that chatroom is:
W4O chatAnd for assistence to use a chat like this, I recommend looking over this thread:
http://forums.waiting4oblivion.com/viewtopic.php?t=248Or contacting one of the Administrators.
2. No discussion of accounts or warnings. There shall be no more discussion about members, about accounts, about how many warnings you've gotten or anything like that.
3. No trolling. No posting of random nonsense, no posting of irrelevant things, no posting the same thing over and over just to get it noticed, no swearing or flaming.
4. No religion or politics. No discussion about religion or politics is to be had in these threads. If you want to discuss religion or politics, please do make another thread, or if another such thread already exists, please post in it.
If you have a question about the rules of the forums, feel free to ask it to either a Global Moderator or an Administrator.
If you're unsure if something is fit to post here, it might be. Again best to ask a Global Moderator or Administrator.
If you're wondering how we think a Lair or the Coffee Shop should look like, what we do allow, then I recommend taking a look at the Lurkers Lair at the Official Forums.
Have fun, but follow the rules

QUOTE(Alexander @ Jan 27 2006, 05:10 PM)
that's actually pretty cool. Just think about it, should they ever reach stardom, you'll reach it with them and fame and fortune alongside them.
And on the other hand, if they don't make it, at least you'll have some great memories and stories to tell your kids and grandkids and have great times with them

Are you kidding? If they reach stardom, they'll have replaced me (as far as my use to the band) long before. I mean, they'll have gotten a new manager (a professional one), a real studio and a good editor (instead of a kid who uses tape recorders and freeware programs), and generally replace every use they have for me. If they reach stardom, I probably won't be a star with them. A fan, yeah, sure. Still friends, yeah. We're good friends, and we have been for a few years. But I'll be just be the guy with the free backstage passes, the guy on the tour bus with them. I'll just be there, not really all that useful for anything, just a friend and a fan.
Not that I mind. The memories are what's important. (besides, I'm too camera-shy/introspective to enjoy stardom much, I probably wouldn't like it too much. I guess I'd be better off just being a fan) Besides, the odds of
any band becoming famous, well, I'm not gonna calculate them, but the odds are slim.
Again, the memories are what's important. Being famous isn't important. Not to me, anyways. If the idea of being famous was important to me then I'd...well, I'd be depressed, I guess.

Realist first, cynic second, pessimist third, optimist rarely.
The memories are important, yeah, but, of course, the other reason I made the offer is that I like playing around with audio files. But finished songs are such a pain, they already sound RIGHT the way they are, they don't need more finetuning, so I need to work with something a bit different. (I swear, what he turned Metallica's Sad But True into, well it was a monster when he was done with it. But it was a funny monster.)

Heh, I know of four bands at my school, none will ever reach stardum, ever. Actually, since converting to bassist I've become quite a well sought product at my school. I completely, totally suck at this point because I don't even own a base, but it's still kind of cool. I know like 6 chords, and that's all a bass really needs.

So what, you borrow a bass (sp? I don't think it's base, although that's how it's said) from whichever band you are playing with? Or use one from the school?
I avoided saying that my friend's band would never reach stardom for just that reason, it's my friend. I'm supposed to at least
pretend there's a chance. And, in fact, there technically is. Like if I blackmail an executive at a major record label.

That's a chance. Technically.

Yeah, being famous is a fringe benefit of being both really good and really really really lucky. But I know someone who absolutely hated playing music and tried setting up a band for the sole purpose of getting famous. That band lasted untill the rest of his band told him that he had to do something too, or get out. But yeah, 99.999999999% of all bands are set up to play music, not to get in at the A-list parties.

Dang, that sounds quite aweful. Pretty much every week I write an essay, and being the over-achiever I am I leave it to the last day. Strange thing though, I get 80s and 90s on my essays because I pay close attentiion to grammer and spelling and always am about six or seven grades past my classes average reading level. In grade 8 my teacher said I write and read at a second year University level. Don't get me wrong though, I'm constantly talking out in class and have had problems with past teachers.

Uh... IMHO I think that, 'ability to read way past your grade level' thing is completely bogus.
First off at 4, I could read better then a good percentage of 80 - 90 year olds in my town (no joke).
By 7 I read better then all the kids that didn't try... And everyone else that did try was at my level or higher.
By the age of 13 everyone that wanted to read could read at a college level.
It all depends who its compared to. Compared to the person who doesn't care, I'm a freakin genius.
So.. at the end of my rant.. Never meant to sound to harsh, but I believe that whole reading above your grade level is only useful in a comparitive comparison of kids from 5 - 13.

I'm pretty good at reading, so I should'nt have a problem. The book I have read most is LOTR, and the HP series, I actually read the whole LOTR in 8 days( I had just gotten it then, the day I turned thirteen, and I did almost nothing but read), yea, I was exausted after then but it was worth it.

I don't know how to read...
Lol. According to the stupid grade level test thingies they made me take once, I have a reading level of 13.0. That's grade thirteen, the way they explained it. Which is college, I guess. I believe that test was in second grade.

I prefer my own method of measurement. I timed myself, I read approximately 200 words per minute. That was also a few years ago, so I might be faster now, but it was also with a pretty simple book.
Not that it matters. I can read as well as I need to. I used to read a lot (like, I counted my reading in novles per day, not pages per day) but I stopped reading so much, recently. Mostly, I just read what I need to for school (not much). And sometimes I reread old books, ones that I particularly liked, but I read it in small sections, usually while waiting for something. (like while I'm cooking, or while I'm waiting for my internet connection to load)
I read The Hobbit over the summer between grades 4 and 5 for a book report. (stupid summer homework) I liked it, although it wasn't (and still isn't) my favorite book. I read LOTR at some point later than that, I think it was later that year, but it might have been 6th or 7th grade. So you guys have me beat.
I'm still a fast reader wen I want to be. I started reading Steven King's novel, "It" not all that long ago, and it creeped me out (sorry, clowns are creepy sometimes) so much that I decided not to sleep untill I knew how to kill IT. I finished the book before the sun was up. (and I started after it went down) So I can still read when I need to, I just...don't.
Megil- You were leaning on LOTR? What did it ever do to you?

Red- Got me beat.

Thanks for all the support. While ergonomics are always a good idea, this is completely unrelated to computer use. Actually, the doctors have no idea what causes the type of problem I have.
I will try to visit here as often as I can, but there will be at least a few days where I won't even be able to sit at the computer. But don't let that stop any of you from updating your stories; I will be hoping for lots of updates when I do get back here after the surgery.
Speaking of reading, I tried to read a paperback last night. Do you realize how hard it is to read a book with only one hand (especially when its not your dominant hand)? Give it a try sometime. I do have a lot of stuff to read for work, and it's printed out rather than in books, so I'm sure I will still get plenty of reading done during my recovery.
Wow, it takes a long time to type one-handed.

Sigh . . . .

Snow.........
can't remember the last time we had that here. Or at least the last time it was heavy enough to actually stay on the ground without melting instantaneously. Couple of years at least

I miss pelting my sisters mercilessly with snowballs

Snow . . .what is snow?
lol, no haven't had snow here for a while. The weathers been a little freakish as of late.
I'd like snow though, prefer over this kind of weather any day of winter. I love it in Autumn however.
By the way, I've finally got a motto to stick by for life, just check my sig.

I didn't write anything down, but I gave an explanation as to why mottos are useless.
