Description:
Presenting himself to whoever may meet him as an ever-laughing boy, Clavicus Vile looks innocent enough, hardly the kind to bring about tragedy. However, one should not be deceived: Clavicus Vile delights in punishing those foolish enough to trust him. The gifts he makes are either treacherous, or he takes them back at the moment they are needed the most. He's mischievous and also quite vain.
History:
In the second era, Clavicus Vile is said to have had dealings with the sload N'Gasta of Stros M'Kai. In exchange for souls delivered to him by N'Gasta, Clavicus granted favors to the necromancer. Among the souls delivered to Clavicus was that of the sister of Cyrus, a great hero of the Redguards. Even though Clavicus Vile tried to deceive him, Cyrus eventually prevailed.
Clavicus Vile is also the creator of the famed Masque of Clavicus Vile. The most prominent story about this artifact that grants its wielder great popularity is the story of one noble woman by the name of Avalea who had been disfigured as a child and who gained the item by making a dark deal with Clavicus. The item vanished when she needed it most, resulting in her losing everything.
