Description:

Azura, also known as the Mother of The Rose or Queen of the Night Sky is probably the most well-known Daedric Princess today.

The Dunmer regard her one of the "Good Daedra", and many non-Dunmer consider her to be of a more benevolent nature as well. However, failure to appreciate the complexity of the nature of the Daedra Princes can be a fatal mistake. Though her worshippers may describe her as a mistress who desires their love above all else, history teaches us that those that have offended her have paid a terrible price.

It is safe to say that Azura rewards those that do her bidding and punishes those that mock or annoy her. Aside from that, it is difficult to tell what her motivation is: Did she help the Nerevarine out of kindness, or was he just a tool for fulfilling her prophecy of punishing the Tribunal?

It is interesting to note that despite all that has transpired in the history of the Chimer/Dunmer, Azura still appears looking much like a Dunmer woman when summoned, betraying a deep link between her and those she claims as her people...

History:

In the Merethic Age, Azura tought the Chimer the mysteries needed to be different from the Altmer and was worshipped by them.

In the First Era, Azura got enraged with the Dwemer for trying to prove her falability (refer to "Azura and the Box") and later for the heresy of trying to create a god of their own (Numidium). It is suspected though not proven beyond doubt that she is directly responsible for the disappearance of the Dwemer, either by transporting them directly to Oblivion herself, or by instructing Lord Indoril Nerevar how to use the tools of Kagrenac to destroy them. She did instruct Lord Nerevar in the use of the tools, but it is unclear if he ever actually got to use them.

After the disappearance of the Dwemer, Azura punished the Chimer for the betrayal of the Tribunal that broke their promise to both Azura and Lord Nerevar and used the power of the dead Aedra god Lorkhan to install themselves as the new gods of their people. Azura permanently changed the skin of the Chimer from a golden hue to an ash like colour, and gave their eyes a fiery red glow. She also prophesized that Lord Nerevar would return to punish the Tribunal.

In the Third Era, Azura helped Lord Nerevar Reborn - the Nerevarine - in his task to put an end to Dagoth Ur's schemes and life, at the same time destroying the source of the Tribunal's power. She also later thanks the Nerevarine for handling the aftermath of these events.

Michael Kirkbride's comment: (from the official forums)

"Azura, Lord of Dusk and Dawn, maintains the domain of Moonshadow, a twilight country of shades and half-thoughts. Visitors to this isle have historically come mainly from the Dunmer of eastern Morrowind and the catfolk of Elsweyr, whose people both hold a great affection for the mother of immanence, though by separate roads. At the time of this writing, regular gateways to Moonshadow have been inaccessible for the last several years. Whether this has to do with the unlawful incidents at Hogithum Hall in the Capital City or mere whim of Azura herself, no one can say. Of course, Azura's most famous acts of recent times is the Incarnation of the Nerevarine, a subject that while far beyond the scope of this pamphlet has been felt to the present day."
