I have the guide can answer most of the questions here, but some might consider them spoilers. I'll try to be vague, but I can't grantee you won't regret reading this. Highlight the following to read it:

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

You catch Vampirism the same way as in Morrowind, but that's more or les where the similarities stop. You start out with minor increases in ability and one minor power. After every day without drinking your abilities grow and you gain more powers, but your appearance also gradually changes and so does your sensitivity to the sun. After a while people will refuse to talk to you unless you have them at a HIGH disposition. You can only feed on sleeping NPCs and it has no adverse affect on them. You are only safe from the sun for a 24 hour period after feeding. It looks very fun, to say the least.
Intestinal Chaos
Oh my, that's amazingly awsome.

Thank you very much for this illicit bit of knowledge :]

It certainly explains why the matriarch appears so inhuman. It also bothered me that fledgelings were as powerful as the ancient vampire of their clan, but no more! With great power comes great inhumanity. You want to be the classy vampire that may walk in the day sometimes and socialize with humans? You won't be quite as powerful as say, the inhuman vampire is shunned by mortal society and lives in the wilderness but has amazing powers.
DoomedOne
Yeah it seems like a great balance, and convinced to me to go ahead and do the vampirism thing eventually. I have one question though.

If you waited a really long time so you transformed a great deal and gained a lot of powers, but adversely can't really be in sunlight or get anyone to tell you anything important, can you just go back to the old way you were and the old way people treated you by drinking again?

Intestinal Chaos
I'm pretty sure that's the way. Though, it might be difficult getting into town unnoticed when your face is like :K. Finding a sleeping NPC in a town of guards going "lYk z0MG!!1!!!11 4 v4mP1r3!/!!1!1!" would be pretty difficult. Though you probably get some sort of invisibilty power after a while. You probably get a dominate or sleeping trance ability too.
DoomedOne
Yeah but then again it's probably going to be hard to become a vampire in the first place. I like how you're not required to kill the victim, too. In Oblivion I planned to do the least amount of useless killing as possible.

I also wonder if they have a high disposition to you and then you become a vampire and people slowly refuse to talk to you, will be with a high disposition continue to have a high diposition or will it drop down to moderate or lower or something? I would think it'd be cool if people who already knew you and really liked you (I.E. high disposition) just saw past the vampire and continued to regard you in the same way.
Intestinal Chaos
I imagine it'd be like that. Though they'd probably have to be at 100 disp. for that to work (or pretty damn close to 100).
fragonard
"Yeah but then again it's probably going to be hard to become a vampire in the first place. "
According to the guide, you get a easy way to become a vamp in one of the first DB quests.
Intestinal Chaos
Ah, is that so? Well, that's some extra insentive for me.

Just what is this guide everyone keeps quoting?

The Prima Oblivion strategy guide, it's been out for nearly a week. It's really not all that well put together, I wouldn't get it. Plus it's SO tempting. I haven't looked at any of the quests, but it's been a close thing.
DoomedOne
God, I couldn't handle myself if I had a strategy guide in the same building as me. I would wake up in cold sweats.

Could I become a vampire later if I wished or would that be my only window?
Agent Griff
Now that I know these things, one of my characters will be a guaranteed vampire. I like vampires they have an aura of mystery and power to them, especially ancient ones. I think I'll make an Imperial character that will turn out to be a savage monster living in the darkest of forests, preying on the innocent.

Ha, I like your style, I was thinking of the exact same thing. I'll have one elegent beguiling, socially accpeted vampire, who serial kills in his free time and a revenous creature who's given in to his inner beast, and stalks the forests at night for his next prey.
Agent Griff
Having big fangs and running around with just your pants on in a dark forest while your skin is peeling off to reveal the inner beast is a very interesting notion. Ripping young ladies throats open with your bare hands and sucking them dry then dragging their pale corpses into a local grave yard is an even more interesting notion. I'm going to love beeing a vampire, scratch the romantic notion of a noble vampire cause' that sucks. Think about what you can do as a vampire! You can drag bodies so you can drag a victim of yours to a cave or fill a mausoleum with dried bodies. Pure bliss! For a blood sucker.
Shogun Ryudan
It would bepretty cool if there were also vampire slayers; NPC's who focus mainly on killing vampires. That would make playing vampire even more interesting, since this time aroung you don't know who is out there to kill you (assuming vampire slayers have a better chance of figuring out who is a vampire or not).

I also wonder whether one of the five counts may be a vampire/necromancer. Or perhaps there is a sixth count who is a vampire/necromancer!!!! Just imagine not only being a vampire but doing quests for this one vampire count and then rising up the ranks to be one of his or her greatest champion!!! SWEET! biggrin.gif
Intestinal Chaos
Well, I have Oblivion, and I've already made my character a vampire. TO be honest, it's not all that great.

I haven't aged him yet, but I plan on it.

PS: No vanmpire clans exist on OB, sorry :[
1234king
well chaos if you have the game already...... WTF ARE YOU DOING IN THE FORUMS.
Shogun Ryudan
No Vampire-clans... too bad sad.gif .

Oh well, it might be a good idea for some modders(*cough*, *hint*)

There is someone who tries and hires you to kill a vampire but he seems like an idiot... I made a vampire character yesterday. I thought it was pretty badass. OB pawns
Intestinal Chaos
So far the minor power you get is "Eyes of the Hunter" or somesuch.

It gives you nighteye as well as detect life.

I'm not sure what the other powers are just yet, I didn't keep my character a vampire, it interefered with his assassinations.

I'm going to make a new character specially devoted to being a vampire.

After you do a few Dark Brotherhood quests, the quest giver (who is a vampire) offers you the "dark gift". That's not the only way to get it, the usual method of infection is still in.
Agent Griff
I've already started my quest to be a blood-thirsty monster stalking the forests near Morrowind. I have made my home out of an abandoned (as in killed owners) cave near Cheydinhal and I only come out at night. I once ambushed an Imperial Soldier on horse back and left him and his horse dry. I decorated my cave with his armour after that.
DoomedOne
Just be warned if you do become a vampire, the sun kills you really fast eventually if you don't fee regularly. Pretty easy to avoid though, just go back inside and wait until nitfall, and the area is so littered with caves and stuff whenever riding if the sun sneaks up on you it's pretty easy to find a nice little cave or something to wait at.
Agent Griff
That's why I only come out at night. My character looks like a monster so he wouldn't be well liked around town anyway. I mostly feed with animals though because there aren't many people in the woods. I ocassionaly stalk the roads going to the city because there are sometimes people on horse-back on the roads. I love ambushing people on the roads with an invisibility spell.
Catmando
being a vampi sucks boat.. i mean i hate have to always feed...... the powers are cool but now that i am the head of the dark brotherhood i think i dont need it anymore.
DoomedOne
griff, you're not feeding, you're just killing, feeding is how you suppress your inner demon in the tamrielic world.

Catmando, that's what you accept when you decide to become a vampire, the curse is that you're constantly tormented, it's always there, you can never switch it off. But hey, at least you live forever.
Volsung
I'll become a vampire again when I finish the main quest. It sucks having to feed constantly while you're trying to shut oblivion gates. I was a vampire once already, but I really never got to try it for a long time. I fed 10 times, and was a vampire for 15 days.

I'm not even trying to supress the inner demon, I let it take me and give me power. I let it turn me into a blood-sucking beast with no mercy or feelings. Pretty much like a werewolf, the only difference is that I chose not to be one of those wuss vampires that live in the cities and sneak into people's houses to drink their blood while they sleep. I'm a hands-on vampire that stalks his prey through the forests, attacking them when the time is right. I sometimes meet a highwayman that tries to rob me. The thing is, the only items I have on me are some shred up pants. The thing that will be shred up soon is the highwayman.

Do I remember correctly or did I just imagine that I read you can now walk in Daylight unbothered as long as you keep up constant feeding? If you don't feed, you slowly show your true Vampiric form and become harmed by the Sun and angry Peasants. Can anyone confirm?

Indeed that is true now that im a vampire in oblivion it rules Lonce i forgot to feed constantly and died in the sun sad.gif but there is a perk to not feeding you get more spells smile.gif
