Honestly I was very dissapointed the way they went about with vampires in Morrowind, in was a little boring (though the mods were nice) and the lack of an animation for feeding and no social life just busted it for me.... Im really hoping here with Oblivion that they'd take vampirism a step further.... making feeding a little more strategic (like in Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines) and maybe a few new powers though not too unbalanced and fantastical but super speed and a slow-mo would be pretty neat (but possibly too unbalancing)
MerGirl
Ooh, haven't noticed this interesting topic! smile.gif

Anyway, yes, I really hope vampires will have a more of a social life than in Morrowind. (It was so boring and frustrating to be one!) I hope that the vampires will be able to blend in with the Cyrodiilic natives and interact with them.

Oh, and I hope we can choose (mod?) how the vampires look like. I want my characters to be deadly as vampires and have fangs, but I want to them to still look innocent and pretty-looking even as vampires. smile.gif

LOL

I would like it if you could be like be a trusted friend and then BAM! turn on them

Proper feeding! biggrin.gif What on earth is the point of a useless little Health Absorbtion spell that almost any Mage will have anyway when you're an all-powerful Vamp wink.gif Being able to sneak up on people and dig into their necks is an absolute must!

Yes, yes! That is what being a vampire is all about. I hope there will be drinking blood animations, more complex relationship with NPC's and stuff like that. happy.gif
Red
I agree, and I hope when I bite someone, they will get a much more complex daily routine.

Oh, my goodness! *slaps forehead* I practically forgot about Radient(sp?) AI!

Imagine, the NPC's would have to convert to a night-life kind of schedule, which would make things more interesting! (Imagine if you bit a shopkeeper; he would have to close his store during morning hours or something.) biggrin.gif
Soulseeker3.0
nah I wouldn't think so, he would just have to stay away from the door. he just wouldn't be able to do anything else.

would one vampire in turn at night bite another villager?
lifeishell91
Yeah. If you bite one, they bite someone, and it just keeps spreading and spreading and spreading until the entire town is full of dark, powerful vampires. Then maybe it would spread to the rest of Cyrodil!

Muahahaha...Muahahaha...Muahahaha...

huh.gif
minque
yikes....I do hope not!.....vampires scares me.... wacko.gif
Red
Radient AI willl make werewolves (if included) more interesting also. bite a castle guard whhile he's asleep and off duty, wait three days and watch as every guard gets bitten, all the way up until the duke of the castle. It will be amazing!
Soulseeker3.0
the werewolf castle...

dum, dum, duuuummm

I couldn't agree more with that one. I didn't like the spell casting vampire's bite thing in Morrowind and I also didn't like how even with a helmet on people were like "Ahhhhh a vampire!" You should be able to disguise yourself.
Intestinal Chaos
It's nice to know people feel as I do. It seemed as a vampire everything was extremely simplified, if your a vampire the daily schedule should be more involved and difficult. Having to feed every day being manditory would be terrible, having such high advantages should make healing alot more difficult (what with having to steal health from every other living being in the game). And it bothered me how you could drain health from dwemer constructs and the undead.

I second that...and I didn't like your inability to disguise yourself either. Everyone was like oh hi mister guy with a full face helmet on...AHHHH die vampire!
Intestinal Chaos
Yeah something should have been done about that, but the ability to disguise by simply wearing a faced helmet seems a bit unbalanced. The vampire's embrace mod did a good job of counteracting that though.

It's good to see someone agrees with me about that. biggrin.gif It's suprising how many times I have been flamed for propositioning that enhancement on other boards. blink.gif
Aki
As fun as infecting people would be i think it shouldn't be done, for the simple fact that things can and WILL get messy when you do stuff like that. Esspecially when everyone a Vampire and theres nothing left to feed on, or how the NPCs who start as Vampires could turn Cyrodiil into vampire-land with you the only mortal.

Morrowind is accustomed to dealing with Vampires, they know a dude who wearing a helmet and only goes out at night is a Vampire. Cyrodiil doesn't, so i think we'll see a change there. biggrin.gif
Intestinal Chaos
Yeah, I was thinking infection as a mod instead of being an ingame feature. As for feeding obviously it would be a bit more difficult than just a stealth attack and in a way that doesn't drain them dry (if it can be helped).

Feeding i can see done in three ways;

A sneaky grab + bite

A brutual grab in combat, where one tears off anything in the way and sinks their fangs into the throat

Or the stereotypical "Lure 'm off and feed on them" deal. laugh.gif
Channler
You know, I've never played a vampire in morrowind.. Hmm am I missing anything?

I've played a werewolf though, much fun I must say =)
Kiln
Vampirism in morrowind was a little dry so in my opinion you didn't miss anything. There are obvious good sides to becoming a vampire, boosts in several skill but it is ruined by the inability to disguise yourself. Nobody besides your own clan likes you, so it's not that great.

Yeah, biting animation and sneakiness is what being a vampire is all about (well, besides the fangs, I mean) to me. smile.gif Something like in the animations in that Vampire Bloodlines game would interesting to see.

I also think there should be more interesting clans, like in Vampire Bloodlines game or the pen and paper game, White Wolf's World of Darkness. Not just stealth clan, combat clan, and magic clan like in Morrowind. That's just.. too boring and straightforward. tongue.gif
Intestinal Chaos
Yeah I was thinking it could be like Bloodlines also, Iwas a big fan of that game. As for vampirism you didn't miss anything, the quests sucked, bad perks, and the skill enhancements was the only real good thing they had.
Aki
Yeah.

Vampirism in MW was much improved with mods like Vampire Embrace.

I liked tearing people's throats out. devilsmile.gif

Well, since they included Necromancy and seemed to be concentrating on the storylines (factions, infamous reputation, etc), hopefully, the devs will put more effort into the vampire society (clans, etc) part of it. *crosses fingers* smile.gif I'm always hoping. But, luckily, since I use PC, there are always mods to look forward to! coolgrin.gif Yummy!
Kiln
Yeah well people like me who will get the X-360 version have to hope that such things are implemented before launch because there aren't any mods for the console version. sad.gif
Intestinal Chaos
Vampires aren't very important to Oblivion like in Morrowind. They were going to add more stuff to vampires in Morrowind but they needed to make their due date. Vampires are all just gravy unfortunaly and Oblivion seems to be perilously close to it's deadline as well. But hey what do I know, I haven'y played it yet.
Intestinal Chaos
"Todd then decides to have his character steal several items from the sleeping store owner, telling us that the NPC schedules come in handy for vampires and thieves - most NPCs always sleep at night, offering creatures of the night the chance to strike. " -E3 Demo

Hmmmn, perhaps they do have Vampires in mind in Oblivion.....

A favorite of mine with Vampire's Embrace was making Ordinators (the ones with names) into vampires... that was great.
Kiln
There's a mod where you can make other people into vampires? Too bad my computer won't run it... sad.gif

That's the Vampire Embrace mod Aki had just mentioned above. *points* Yeah, that mod definitely improved some aspects of vampires. (I haven't downloaded it yet, because I have too many mods at the moment. tongue.gif )

Well, the only two "underground" mods I can think of is: 'Suran Underground' (I think it's called that), which is like a some sort of custom faction that is very vampire-friendly.
Then, there is Qarl's 'The Underground', which is sort of a really big, complex quest thing (underground, of course), in which you can have a romantic relationship with a vampire of the opposite sex. Along the way, you can find other friendly vampires, or something similar, and it has some interesting animations.

There are many vampiric mods out there, which is a good thing. biggrin.gif

yes talking about the underground (Qarl's), is it out yet?? if so were could I get it?

My copy of MW is on the Xbox so I can't really look forward to mods anyways, whats bad is I know what I'm missing. But it would be cool to have a mod where you can infect people with vampirism.

Well... yeah... ummm... they already admitted that...
Red
True, they just re-confirmed iin the Games planet interview.
Intestinal Chaos
indeed they did, I salivate at the thought of being able to stalk my victims before the inevitable attack :k
Intestinal Chaos
It'll just be wonderful memorising someone's daily habits while hiding in the shadows then when least expected follow them home and FEAST.
Konji
But you'd have to follow everyone to make sure they don't collied. And then you have to buy a house and relocate sherlock holmes to it, then he finds out when you shoul strike. So you eat that guy, then eat sherlock!
Slayer of Cliffracers
What's to stop vampires feeding off eachother, so when every living NPC has been sucked dry, they turn on one another in a huge blood war that turns all against all. Alternately they could just hunt creatures and drink their blood though, but I guess there probably wouldn't be enough to go round.
MerGirl
I thought there was going to be re-spawning NPC guards? That way, you could always have something to feed on? *does not remember* Morrowind/BM/TB had re-spawning NPC guards, if I'm not mistaken?

And there is the forced reload, so you do not mess up any Main Quest NPC, I guess.
Dantrag
The re-load isn't forced - the devs said that you will get a screen that prompts you to reload, but you can click "no".

And feeding vamps would be cool.
Konji
I don't remember them saying you got an option. I always read it as you had to reload when you killed one.

Yes, Morrowind had respawning guards (and a few other respawning NPC IDs as well, eg generic vampires and bandits).

Oblivion will have at least respawning guards and bandits.

Actually, MSFD corrected himself. It's still a forced reload if you kill an essential NPC. There is no way to skip the screen and continue playing.
