I finished Metro a few days ago and it was good, though the ending was bizarre. After spending who knows how long traveling the tunnels with various companions and nearly dying several times, the story is turned on its head right at the end and left me thinking 'what, that's it?'

I've now moved from Russia to Poland with The Time of Contempt by Andrzej Sapkowski. I've read the previous Witcher books, so I have a pretty good idea what this will be like.

I've read all the Witcher books, got them as fan-made ebook translations from the forum for the games. I'm not a huge fan of them. The Last Wish and The Sword of Destiny are easily my favourites, love those two. The others are a bit over the top in my opinion. I'm really not a fan of some of the characters, particularly the female ones, they just seem a bit flat for the most part.

I'm currently reading Old Habits Die Hard Part Four.

Well...today makes Day 3 of "snowmageddon" here in Alabama, so I think I'll catch up on some stories in here since I can't return to work until tomorrow. wink.gif

The Complete Sherlock Holmes.
mirocu
First issue of Nintendomagasinet.

Had a few myself when I was younger but like other stuff I wish I still had, they are long gone.. kvleft.gif
Callidus Thorn
A Game of Thrones.

Got it for Kndle ages ago, finally got around to starting it last night.

Currently a little over 360 pages in.

Bloody good book so far.

Edit: Finished it, now onto A Song of Ice and Fire, book 2: A Clash of Kings.
ghastley
Just re-read Arthur C. Clarke's "The Deep Range" - cowboys in submarines, herding whales - written in 1957, but remarkably current in many ways.

I confess I was only reading because I had no power, and couldn't play TES. biggrin.gif

I'm currently reading a Warhammer 40K novel, the fourth in a series, and Old Habits Die Hard Part Six.

Look up ComicNix, great fanfic writer.(Just read them to see how disgustingly bad and disturbing they are or watch someone on youtube read them, massive empahis on disturbing.)

Now reading:

Gaunt's Ghosts: The Founding.

I'm on a Warhammer 40K binge at the moment when it comes to reading.
McBadgere
Tales of Heresy by Various...It's a short story collection set in the Space Marine/Warhammer Horus Heresy universe thingy...
Rohirrim
Priests of Mars. Brilliant book, aside from some canonical inconsistencies. (It's Holy Terra, not Old Earth, how do you even know this?!)
McBadgere
Odd that a book by Graham McNeill is off in any way...Hmmm...I was wondering about getting that one meself...*Applauds Rohirrim*...
Callidus Thorn
I think it depends what point in time it's referencing. If it's talking pre-Emperor then it'd be Old Earth, if it's after the start of the Crusade then yeah, it's a screw-up.

And if it's Mechanicum then it's entirely possible that they consider nothing but Mars holy. The whole Emperor-is-the-Omnissiah thing is still up for debate.
McBadgere
*Applauds Thorny-Boy*...

I do likes me Warhammer...Shame Mustardio's not here to see this... biggrin.gif ...

Heh, I used to be a massive fan of WH40K. Fell out of it for a few years, and basically can't afford to get back into it. Between that and their shenanigans with their books I'm pretty much done with them. I still read what I've got, but I'm not gonna buy any more of them.

I've got enough of their damned books as it is laugh.gif

IT's well into M41, and it's a Rogue Trader of all people saying it. Admittedly, McNeill only uses it as description; "he looked like one of the gladiators of the Romanii empire of Old Earth."

That'd be it then. It might take place in M41, but it's referring to ancient Earth. Terra just isn't holy until the Emperor unites it. I think it also functions as an in-universe historical distinction. anything before the rise of the Emperor is generally fragments they've dug up, history doesn't really get coherent until Earth is united.

And my Warhammer 40K book binge has been brought crashing to a halt.

I'm now reading Magician, by Raymond E. Feist
McBadgere
Fallen Angels by Mike Lee...Another Warhammer - Horus Heresy novel...
ghastley
Fallen Angels by Niven, Pournelle and Flynn - just because McB's post reminded me about it.
McBadgere
Whoa...Creepy... blink.gif ...I'm guessing they're not the same though... biggrin.gif ...

What's yours about?...

Mine has Space Marines going about and hitting things very hard with other things...
ghastley
It's about an air shortage on the space colonies. The government back home has gone eco-crazy and is refusing to export air. The eponymous angels are attempting to pirate some with air-scoops, when they crash.
McBadgere
Sounds excellent...*Applauds*...

I have too many books to read, but if I hadn't, I might just have checked that one out...*Sighs*...

I'm currently reading Silverthorn, which follows on from Magician. Makes me want to fire up an RPG and roll up mageish character, maybe a sorcerer...
Grits
I just started Magician. So far I'm really enjoying it.
Callidus Thorn
Finished Silverthorn, onto A Darkness At Sethanon.

I'd get more of his books, but I think they're a bit overpriced as ebooks.

Thank you for writing it.

I don't think I'd have even started writing about my characters in Oblivion were it not for reading about your adventures with Buffy.

Edit: Ugh, damn I sounded geeky there laugh.gif
Vital
Upon CT's recommendation I have begun reading Buffy the Bowgirl. So far I'm really enjoying it biggrin.gif
McBadgere
Warhammer...Erm...Technically 30 000 I think...Anyways...The Horus Heresy - A Thousand Sons by Graham McNeill...

I'm currently trying to decide which fanfiction to read next:

Teresa of the Faint Smile,
Jerric's Story,
Old Habits Die Hard,

Or just see what I can dig up in the fanfic section...
McBadgere
*Cough*...Or this?... whistling.gif ...

Sorry McB, but Teresa of the Faint Smile won.

Y'know...It's hard to argue with the choice really... laugh.gif ...

Oh...The thread...As I only started the other day...It's still the Warhammer one... biggrin.gif ...

I just finished Stephen King’s On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft. It’s a little bit of autobiography and some very basic advice. I found myself folding down page corners which I never do, but somehow this book invited me to mark where I wanted to return regularly. I especially liked the parts about plot vs story. Also I laughed several times (where it was supposed to be funny), and that’s always a plus in how-to books.

Now I’m reading The Elements of Style. I lost or gave away my copy so it’s been awhile. I expect more advice and fewer laughs than the last book. tongue.gif

The Lord of the Rings.

Very cute, 'rocu. Anyone of a certain age and older remembers those books - the Hobbit, all three volumes of the Lord of the Rings, and the Silmarillion. Those were the days when film couldn't do Mr. Tolkein's imagination any kind of justice.
Grits
As much as I enjoy the movies, I still maintain that film can’t do Mr. Tolkein’s imagination justice. tongue.gif

I read The Hobbit out loud to my son when he was an infant. Hmm, I think I could stand to read them all again…

Me too. But first James Herriot's stories . . .

I note that James Herriot lived in Thirsk, though apparently not at the Mead Hall. biggrin.gif

Working my way through the second half of The Two Towers, and I downloaded an ebook that I'm checking out: The Art of War in the Middle Ages, by Sir Charles Oman.
