Rann

"When my father traveled with you, did he mention his tattoo at all?" he asked. "Or did you notice anything strange about it?"

He was very curious about testing the power of his odd birthmark, but didn't want to be rendered unconscious for a week just out of curiosity.

Sadril

"Mention it, he did not. I did notice it though, but as odd as it was it never served a purpose. He didn't kill anyone with it if that's what you're asking," Sadril added with a chuckle. "Why? You got one too?"

He pulled up his sleeve to answer, showing the image of a snake wrapping around his arm.

"I was told it absorbed magicka, and from there I could channel it, but I haven't tried it. Mainly because I was told that my body could barely handle it. I'm not too keen on getting knocked out at all, much less for a few days."

The Silhouette, Valus Mountains

All was calm now, the villages had all been burnt. Hundreds lay dead, though no battles had taken place. All that remained was for everything to fall into place. Chancellor Ocato would die, the pirates would set fire to Bravil, and the final movement would take place. He had waited thousands of years for this, and his army was only the first part..

"You seek blood, and you will get blood," he said to the lycantrop. "Go now, slaughter the people of Harlun's watch," he said, his voice icy and unwelcoming.

Dalrus, With the group

Dalrus looked at the vampire before her, wondering why he was so friendly. Of course all they had to do was announce aloud that a vampire was there and the guards would come and slaughter him.

"So...you're a vampire, what of it? What do you want? You are wasting our time, so get to business or go away," she said in anger at this new distraction from their task.

"I know a powerful mage if you ever feel like testing that theory," he laughed before realising how not funny it was to kid about Veric like that, even though Rann probably wouldn't get the joke.

"Chorrol." he answered, ignoring the other conversation between Dalrus and Sadril; he wasn't exactly sure where he fit into it. "It's a small town. Ask around, I'm sure he won't be hard to find."

Veric

"Fate, by definition, cannot be changed. That's the idea of it. You walk down a path, but instead of giong straight you turn left," he continued, and as he spoke Veric and Voltar coincidently turned left, now heading towards the Tiber Septim Hotel. "You may think you have altered your destiny by turning left, but what if you were never meant to go straight? Then you have only fooled yourself..." Twenty years ago Veric would not often get in conversations like this, but one would figure that his confinement had given him a craving for a good discussion with one he would consider an intellectual equal.

Voltar

"Then we must also take in account Free Will then, as the two are opposed to each other it seems. Like, where is the line drawn between the two? Is it merely fate twisting that causes one to jump on its path, seemily by free will? Or is fate not even there, and it's simply coincidence and free will that govern our actions? What I believe is that free will can work hand in hand with fate, as what's fated for us is typically the ideal choice that we choose," Voltar added, now standing in front of the hotel. He looked at the building and then to Veric.

"I take it, we'll be spending the night here?"

Veric

"I have no hideout established in this city, and I've spent far too much time in my own dwelling for me to want to spend another night in there, so yes. We will be staying here," Veric explained as they entered the building. He asked for two rooms and payed for both before Voltar could protest (if he would have chosen to). "Are you hungry?" he asked his companion while ordering himself an assortment of food.

After all, he hadn't eaten in twenty years.

Voltar

Voltar accepted the generosity displayed by Veric and ordered himself a much smaller meal and another glass of wine. Voltar sipped the wine a looked across the table at his companion and his bevy of food.

"So, tell me about this dimension you created, how and functions and whatnot. It is, at the moment, out of my abilities to do, so I'm just curious. Plus, considering all the food you've ordered, you must've designed some way to sustain yourself in that dimension for 20 years. Sounds impossible to do, but I'm seeing it, so I would like to know," Voltar inquired quietly, yet levelly. He treated the question as he would treat a fellow mage in inquiring spell formations.

Veric

Veric, again more than happy to engage in conversation, responded with his mouth full, "Well," then swallowed the bread he was chewing, "It's still quite experimental. In fact it almost denies logic," he leaned in close to avoid any evesdroppers.

"The basic idea is based off of alteration and illusion. With a good deal of knowledge in illusion capabilities go far beyond your average spells. You become capable of actually creating illusions. Pictures painted in the air. This was the first thing I figured out years ago.

"Then I think to myself 'Well that's great, but that's all they are. Illusions.' Then I become aware of Alterations ability to create shields and move objects, so logically this magick can be used to create a force. So say I create the illusion of an arrow, then put a shield or barrier around that arrow in the shape of an arrow? Well then you have effectively conjured an arrow into existence without the use of conjuration."

Veric took a moment to eat a few more bites of food before continuing his lecture. "So this is where things get interesting; how the dimension you speak of was created. I basically created a room..." Veric paused thinking for a moment how to word his speech. "A room in my mind.... Is the best way I can put it. Gave it structure through the Alteration trick I told you about, and willed myself to it through the use of a teleportation spell. That's how it was created.

"I have free will of creation in there. It comes much easier than out here; I can will whatever I wish into existence. Obviously it's tiring on magicka, and it taxes my reserves to hold the dimension in place, but I have created a room in my mind." He shrugged, "I assume that's why one need not eat or breath or any other thing, because they are not really in existense."

Flint Ironwood, at the library. (I'm going to pull time forward a bit, ok?)

Flint had kept out of the conversations for now. He was a bit nervous. The sight of the library did little to ease his nerves.
,,Ok, looks like we're here. Now what exactly are we looking for? If it involves those Elder Scrolls, let someone else look at them. I prefer to keep my eyesight, thank you very much." He spoke with a light dose of sarcasm.

Green-Root, near Leywaiin. (Did I spell it right?)

The Argonian paced back and forth impatiently. Ships were just so slow compared to swimming. Finally, they rounded the curve in the river and saw their destination. Green-Root gripped his spear and wandered over to the captain.
,,Pillage and Plunder. You may keep any goods you and your man find. Just destroy the city when you're done. Serve my master well, and you will be rewarded greater than your most sinful imaginations." Green-Root informed the pirate for the umptheenth time. He then vaulted over the side and dove into the water.

Tail moving from side to side, the Argonian made rapid progress underwater and soon reached the harbour unseen. With everyone focussed on the approaching pirate ship, he would get a perfect opportunity for raiding the local treasury before he had to share his finds with the pirates.
,,Pawns, we are all pawns. Some pawns are just smarter and more successful than others."

Rann

"That's where your knowledge ends." he answered. "I know how loyally you keep to one side. Telling you where my father is is one thing, --he can handle himself just fine-- this is quite another."

He found it awfully odd that Sadril appeared just when they were about to go to the library. Either Veric was in control of the forces in the east and Sadril was working for him, or he was working for Veric independently of the force in the east, or he was working for the force in the east and had nothing to do with Veric.

My brain hurts. he thought to himself after coming up with all of those possible situations.

This also brings about another question, though. Is Veric actually free? Is he controlling the force in the east or not? If not, who is?

It would be hard to conceal the subject of research from Sadril and still get things done, but he most certainly didn't want to give away how much they knew, or whatever plans they might come up with.

Satyana, feeling left out

Satyana was not sure why she even was in the group heading towards the library, nobody seemed to actually care about her or even listen to her....she went more and more annoyed...ok Jonathan was at least a tad decent but her brother was more interested in that....vampire!

She decided to sneak away as soon as there was an opportunity. She started to walk slower, and soon she was a bit behind them all.....

Just have to wait for the right moment....I could as well go back to Chorrol....maybe Rahvin is still there...he seemed to be nice and also he knew my mother once

"If you'll excuse me." he said to Sadril after reading his sister's thoughts.

The library was rather boring, after all it was a place of study, and Jonathan sought to entertain himself. After managing after to Flogir, whilst still keeping a keen eye on their new companion he sought a very important question.

"What happened twenty or so years ago Flogir? I was but a we lad back then.. Actually I can't remeber to much of then anyways.. not before or after.."

He sighed, wondering how she could not know anything that was going on, even though she had been in the same room when the Countess had been speaking...

"We're here to see what the hell a moldair is, because it's our only clue as to what we're facing with that huge army in the east. The vampire is Sadril - he traveled with our mother and my father twenty or so years ago." he said in answer to the first two questions, obviously not too happy to be reviewing this with her.

"He says that Veric is back - you know, the guy that tried to kill our mother so we wouldn't be born? I don't know why the hell he wants us dead, but he does, so we're going to have to stop crying and deal with it."

Flogir

Flogir was idly examining random books, as he wasn't particularly interested in helping the others find the actual word they were looking for. While Flogir did possess knowledge, it wasn't book knowledge, so he knew he wasn't going to be much help for now.

He was busy staring at a rather odd drawing in one of the books when Jonathan approached him.

"Well lad, I was in the Kvatch garrison back then. It began when a cult called the Mythic Dawn, which we didn't know of at the time, assassinated Uriel Septim the Emporer, leaving no apparent heir to the throne as his sons had been assassinated as well. About two days later, the town only just receiving the news of the Emporer's death, the Oblivion gates opened up right outside our gates. One of them was bigger than the rest. Some sort of Daedric battering ram came out of that a passed through the gates, letting the Daedra swarm in. We were overwhelmed and tried to focus on evacuating the city, many died though..." he said, trailing off.

"Eventually, with the assistance of the person who would later discover Martin Septim and help him defeat the Mythic Dawn and Mehrunes Dagon, we cleared Kvatch of the Daedra. The town was in ruins though, and while we attempted to reconstruct the town, we got word that Bruma needed our help, so I went out there. That battle was horrendous as well, but we managed to save the city. Shortly following that, Mehrunes Dagon himself attacked the Imperial City himself. Martin Septim sacrificed himself and Akatosh appeared and defeated Mehrunes. That's why we have no Emporer, Martin was the last of the line..."
Lord Revan

Ian

Despite being privvy to Flogir's past and his roles in the battles of the Oblivion Crisis, Ian made no comment, and no sign that he had heard them. He'd been at those battles, he'd laid his eyes on Mehrunes dagon's unholy form at the end. And he's gotten a front row seat to the summoning of Akatosh's avatar.

Its ironic really, he mused. Agents don't fight out in the open, but I revealed my vocation so many times in that conflict. Ian had liked Martin, a little plagued by self-doubt, and unsure about his role in the order of things at the beginning, but he'd come through in Bruma and in the Imperial City.

The Dragon Statue still stood proudly in the ruins of the Temple of the One. I might visit it before we leave, pay my respects......

,,Finally, a Dwemeric book on smithing, translated by some Dunmer in Morrowind. Oh boy, I've got to read it." He thought with a grin as he hid the book under his cloak. Once a thief, always a thief. Flint then walked over to one of the blind monks.
,,Hi, my friends and I are looking for something about Moldaire. Have any ideas?" He asked the monk.
The monk frowned in deep concentration, recalling all of the knowledge he'd ammassed during his life.

Within moments, he had retrieved the book and opened it on the right page.

Topal Sea, Tamriel

Arco hadn't gotten much rest during the harsh journey, the storm had gotten worse as they came ever closer to Cyrodiil. Even for such an acrobatic Dunmer as he was, it was hard for Arco to stay on his feet as he ship was thrown from side to side by massive waves. Under deck there was little to see of what was going on, as determined as he was Arco went to the trapdoor and opened it slowly and got up on deck. Waves threw water across the deck, tripping those on deck trying to keep the ship on course. Dark blue clouds covered the sky, lightened up by heavy lightning from each side. Arco didn't spend much time on deck before he was ordered down by a stressed and frightened captain - this wasn't a good sign.

This ain't good...

Seconds after that thought struck him, a huge blade formed rock brusted through the floor, nearly cutting Arco in half if he hadn't dived to the side. Water punshed through the broken woodwork and started filling the ship rapidly.

"Get out now!" Arco cried out before strapping his swords extra tight to his waist.

Arco ran quickly back to Serene, dodging past the few people who were now panicing signaling her to come and get out of the sinking ship.

When the ship rammed the sharp block she was thrown off the railing and slammed into the cabin wall..

"Ouch" she cried. Then she heard Arco shouting something about getting out...Now she was out alright and had so been all the time. Her clothes were soaked and the taste in her mouth was foul..nevertheless she obeyed Arco, she had not enough willpower left to take initiatives of her own.

She stumbled towards Arco...

"Heey..Iīm here " she croaked falling heavily against him

With just the right command, the silver blade would transform into the purest and lightest Daedric. At least, that's what the little note strapped to the shaft said. He tried it out and laughed out loud as he stabbed the black spear through a wall.
,,Incredible!"

Outside, the pirates had engaged the town guards in a fierce battle.
Fuzzy Knight
Arezt ‘Arco’ Colerion
Topal Sea, Tamriel

Arco catched Serene as he came stumbling into him, he grabbed her by the arm and led the way through the sinking ship, now filled with water to their knees. Arco followed the others who were now practically swimming against the door leading to the deck.

Once on the deck Arco noticed several people already dived into the dark sea, swimming in all directions - they hadn't even taken the short amount of time to scan for land, which Arco did. With his keen eyesight he could see the silhouette of land to their north west but it was a long swim.

Arco ran to the edge of the boat along with Serene, looking towards land.

With the boat sinking rapidly, Arco simply lifted up Serene before he threw her out into the water and took a last look, checking everyone was off the ship before he dived in after her.

Flint Ironwood, acting to cheapness. tongue.gif

,,Waah!" Flint jumped back, dropping the book and drawing his blades at the same time.
,,Don't sneak up on me! I still don't trust you, don't forget that." He snapped and glared at the vampire.

,,As for your information, maybe it is, maybe it isn't." He continued.

Sadril

Sadril stuck his foot out as a reflex to catch the falling book, "You should be more careful," a look of surprise on his face, "These books are very old and must be handled with care. Now put your sword away and keep your voice down, we're in a library," he finished as he lifted the book to his hands and flipped to the page Flint was on.

Flint Ironwood, annoyed.

,,Yeah, whatever. Hey guys, the vamp has got the book we need!" The Breton shouted and then walked away. He sat down in an empty corner where he began to read his own book, while still keeping an eye on his surroundings.

Serene in the sea!

Ferociously coughing Serene came up to the surface of the roaring sea and was pleased to find Arco not far from her. She realised her only chance was to stick to him. Now she had to admit she felt better being in the sea than on it!

OOC: bedtime! hard work tomorrow! Oh and walking on a stormy sea? well..hmmm could be tricky yes!

Satyana

"Please Rann....donīt be mad at me, I admit I didnīt pay attention back there...Iīm sorry..honestly" Satyana hung her head, she had lived a protected life, she had no experience of things like this...Anyway still she thought she had the right to at least be noticed..and yes now she had been noticed, and annoyed Rann as well..

Damn it..me and my big mouth, but I still donīt see my role here

"Ok...you donīt know and I certainly donīt know why he wants to kill us, so what is your suggestion of how we shall deal with him then?"

"I heal people...I do not kill them!"

Rann

"Well leave the killing to me then, and I'll trust you to heal me." he answered, letting his anger go. "Just promise me you won't try to heal Veric." he added with a smile.

Karn

The trip across the brideg and through the Talos Plaza was uneventful. Karn had to admit it was disappointing. Only a week without crime and the guards aren so complacent the don't even go along their patrol routes..... pathetic

The assassins fanned out around the enterance of the palace. There were two guards standing on each side of the door. Karn made the same hand-signs that he'd used in Chorrol, but split into ten copies this time. With blinding speed all the copies slammed full-force into the archway, knocking the door off its hinges.
The guards turned startled at the ten dunmer standing in between them, but before they could draw their blades they were undone.

Karn, the real one, strode toward the door, the four armored corpses were riddled with arrows. The force of murderers pressed onward deeper into the palace.

OOC: you dont mind some resistance, do you?

Sadril

Sadril's gaze shot up from the book and looked towards the door. He got up slowly and walked cautiously to the door, eyes wide, opening it slowly as if expectig a flood to be on the other side. He stepped outside, looked around, and quickly ran off into the distance.

He turned a corner only to see a murder wide out in the open. Assassins?!

He stepped back and went into a nearby alley, climbed onto some crates and pulld himself up onto the roof of a building. Sadril inched his way to the edge to see more than one assassin stalking through the streets. He waited a moment before leaping off of the roof, landing in front of a particularly suspicious assassin, his sword drawn and pointed at the foe.

OOC: not really sure whether theres mulitple assassins or multiple copies or whatever, but who he landed in front of is up to you, Revan.

Karn

Standing in front of the coucil chamber door, Karn took a deep breath. There was a thud, and one of the assassins hollered something. Karn spun around, a dumer Vampire was standing in front of one of the D. Brotherhood members.

Karn evaluated the newcomer with a malicous glare. Where did he come from, no matter the Chancellor must die. "Assassins to arms! Kill the vampire!" He shouted to the assassins and his ten clones.

The sooner this is over, the faster I can get a new assignment. Karn kicked the door open and marched inside......

OCC: Thanks, yes I don't mind another showdown. But Karn has better targets to murder.

Sadril

Damnit! Sadril thrust his katana through the assassin he had landed in front of and fell him soon enough to see what seemed to be a leader kick down the door to the council chamber. By this time several assassins and clones of the leader were upon him, Sadril ducked and spun extending his katana outward in an area attack. The results were mixed, whatever assassins were close enough were either only wounded or blocked the simple attack...

Sadril considered himself near unbeatable in a duel, centuries of living allowed him to read opponents emotions and predict moves; heavy combat was another story, however. His sword, although razor sharp, was thin and better suited to cutting flesh and cloth than steel, and he bore no armor.

Dark Brotherhood, who is this guy? And why are they attacking in such number? Uncharacteristic of the Brotherhood.

OOC: throw me some attacks, revan, gimme somethin to work with wink.gif
Lord Revan

Karn

The room was packed, the entire council must be in attendance, he thought. He shook his head and summoned half of his clones to retreat to his position. I'll need to eliminate everyone in this room. Karn smiled to himself, he knew that this massacre would completely decapitate to Empire.

As the five clones began to murder the nearest politicians, Karn jeapt onto the huge table that sat in the center of the chamber. He made his way to the weary chancellor.........

Karn's copies

The vampire was a worthy foe, there was no doubt abour that. But the copies were born to be relentless, not honorable. The five that remained to combat the intruder spread out, watching the vampire progress through the expendable Dark Brotherhood pawns.

"One of you, find the assassin that was shamed, and bring him here. He shall serve a new purpose." Karn's command was clear, so one of the copies broke formation and charged out the door.

The others taightened their ranks and continued to study the killing of thier "comrades."

Rann

The conversation between he and Satyana stopped as the unmistakable noises of battle were heard from down the hallway.

"Stay unnoticed, but heal anyone that needs it." he said, making an extra effort to give her a role in the situation.

He ran down the hallway, readying his bow and putting an arrow to its string.

"Duck!" he shouted to Sadril as he fired an arrow. He hoped that Sadril had the presence of mind to do so, for if he didn't, he would find a bothersome arrow in his skull. If he did, then the assassin behind him would meet his demise.

Sadril

Sadril noticed a pattern forming. Only the Dark Brotherhood assassins were attacking him, the clones had split off, five into the council chamber, one going out the door. The copies seemed to be studying, thusly branding themselves smarter than the assassins and a more suitable target for Sadril.

When he heard Rann's voice telling him to duck, he quickly parried a blow with his blade through an assassins neck, before leaping into the air rather than ducking--surprisingly high if you didn't know of his vampirism--away from the fray and towards one of the clones. His cloak had been ripped off when he jumped, possibly making him easier to read. Regardless he brought his katana above his head for a monsterous downward swing upon landing in front of the clone.

Meanwhile, two royal guards had joined the battle outside the council chamber, and several pursued the leader into the chamber.

Rann

Rann had been about to put another arrow to his bowstring when an assassin got too close for comfort. Improvising due to the situation, he just shoved the arrow into his chest and left him standing there in shock. He guessed what was happening in the council chambers, and ran towards the huge doors at full speed, throwing down his bow and pulling out his katana.

He had almost reached it, but the doors slammed in front of him and bolted.

"Damnit!" he spat, He could only imagine the screams he would be hearing soon.

Lord Revan

Karn, getting straight to the point.....

Karn glared down at Chancellor Ocato, the ancient mer was obviously plagued by fatigue. Hearing the sound of armored boots, Karn glanced back at the archway. More guards were coming, curse it all, couldn't they have stayed in bed longer?

He ordered a single clone to hold off the guards, and turned back to the chancellor's throne. But he found himself looking into a pair of disturbingly alert eyes instead. The Chancellor gripped Karn tightly on his left shoulder, and Karn recoiled as a surge of lightning blasted through his body.
His breath came in ragid gasps, and his heart raced irratically. he slowly got to his feet, feeling his anger building. "You look the worse for wear, Chacellor, allow me to put you out of your misery." His voice was a clear pronouncemnet of death....

Issac

Picking up the book that Sadril had dropped, Issac scanned it eagerly with his eyes. he was always facinated by ancient texts. Interesting........... I think I get what this means..... His thought was caught off as he picked up the sounds of fighting. What's going on?

He pocketed the book and hastily adressed a monk on the fact he was borrowing the book and sped down the hallway.

Ian

Ian ran his finger across the page of an ancient book on the pioneering arts of stealth, when a sudden chill ran through his body. He can't be here, doesn't he have better things to do?

With great care he set the book down on the shelf and then bolted with all due haste toward the cold presence.......
The Metal Mallet
Flogir

Flogir noticed Rann rush out of the library, and he immediately heard the sounds of battle. He instictively unsheathed Iceshard and pursued after the Dunmer.

Upon his arrival he found Rann and Sadril fighting off multiple assassins, so Flogir immediately began to assist the two men. Stabbing his way towards Rann.

"Where do we need to get to?" Flogir shouted over the noise, thinking that the large closed doors was the answer.

Sadril

(i assume because it wasnt really responded to his attack connected?)

Sadril's blade met wtih the clone's skull with a satisfying crack, and he fell to the side lifeless. "Through those doors into the council chamber!" He called back to one of the men who had posed the question of where to go.

Although it's barred from the inside... Sadril paused for a moment and looked around. He saw that the hallway rounded around the chamber and figured it was his best bet to find a way inside. He cut his way once more through the battle, felling two more assassins as he ran and eventually broke through; sprinting down the hallway.

He came to a set of stairs leading upward and followed them swiftly, turning left at the top until he reached an overlook of the council chamber. He considered jumping down from the hole in the ceiling of the chamber, but it was very high above the large round council table.

Karn

The Council Chamber was a confused mob as the situation became clear to the surviving politicians. Karn had no time for advisors and treasury masters, though.
After the attack, Chancellor Ocato was now swaying in a dezed fashion, exhausted in mind and body. Karn unsheathed his blades and leaned forward to take a good look at Ocato's eyes. And the blade dived into his chest.

As the body crumpled Karn serveyed the room and didn't have the slightest reason to look up at the cielling. He noticed a small ornate ring on the Chancellor's middle finger, and sliced it of as proof of the deed.
He made hand signs and his copies reunited with their master, and he felt rejuvenated. Time to wrap this up........

Ian

Moments behind Issac, Ian skidded to a halt as the battle came into view. Sadril, Rann, and Flogir were clearly trying to get to the Council chamber. Oh, by Oblivion! Ian shouted to Issac. "We need to get to the Council Chamber, Issac blow open the door!"

Issac glowed faintly as he summoned the power in his body to the task at hand. He held his hand before him and the glow centered in his plams. A fully charged "Deadra's Fury" struck the door, freezing the bolts, but burning the door open.........

EDIT: sorry I have to go to bed now, I'll post again after school.......

"Pff, I'm sure Veric will be happy now that Ocato's dead," Sadril said as he watched the assassin work. He then carefully brought one leg over the railing... then the other and lowered himself. It was still an enormous drop from the height of the chamber's ceiling, but Sadril had saved himself a few feet by lowering himself. He let go and plummeted, silver hair flowing wildly as he fell.

He landed hard and rolled about 10 feet behind the leader of the assassins. The shock from the landing caused him to lose grip on his sword and it clanged to the ground, stopping about three feet to his right. He remain crouched, however, waiting to see if he was noticed by Karn.

Flogir was busily engaged in battle when he heard the vampire's answer. When he look, he saw that the vampire was fleeing the battle!

The coward... Flogir thought suspiciously as he finished off another assassin.

Suddenly Issac and Ian appeared to help out for the battle. At least that was something Flogir was happy about. A large explosion reached Flogir's ears and he winced in pain. It looked as though someone had blown the door apart. Flogir didn't catch who, but he was happy that it was done.

"Let's go guys!" Flogir called and quickly went through the doorway to the massacre that awaited the party.

(quoted for convenience smile.gif )

Veric

As he concluded his little lecture, he simply looked at Voltar and smiled, "I think I had better go on a little stroll. Join me if you like, or you can get some sleep." Voltar may think it strange, Veric wanting to go on a walk in the dead of night, but something in his voice told him that it was quite important. This stroll was for business, not pleasure.

Rann

Rann pushed through the crowd of politicians that was now pouring out of the open door. He entered the room to see Karn and a fairly large number of assassins against himself and the others. Whatever Imperial guards had been in the room were now trying to protect the remaining councillors.

He noticed then the dead corpse of Ocato, and the stealthy Sadril, trying to sneak up on Karn...

"So," he said calmly, hoping to keep Karn's attention from the still-unnoticed Sadril, "What did you hope to gain by killing him? You couldn't possibly be dumb enough to think that you could possibly take control of the Empire with a few dark brotherhood assassins." He guessed that Veric was behind it, or the unknown leader in the east, if they weren't the same person. He didn't voice his thoughts though, as his main focus was keeping Karn's mind occupied.
