Hope everyone had a good weekend! Our car almost spoiled our plans, but thankfully we were able to fix it and spend a lovely Easter Sunday with my in-laws. My daughter had her first real Easter egg hunt, and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the delight on her face. Strangely enough, however, she appears to suddenly be afraid of trees! She wouldn't retrieve an egg that was hidden within a small hole in the tree because, in her words, "Icky! Bees! I scared." So, we had to get that one for her, but it was all a lot of fun. biggrin.gif

(Oh, and just to let you know, there were no bees or bugs within sight by the tree, so we don't quite know where she got that impression...? lol)
Grits
Back from a couple of days in Hilton Head, and the houseguests are on their way to the airport. I’m looking forward to catching up with events here. smile.gif
saqin
Looking in to let you know that I'm still alive. The test went ok I think, it was a really boring subject(Across borders- about relations across countries or such) but I think that what I managed to write will suffice.

Now though, I've got to write an essay and draw a picture for art and... Yeah, I've got a lot to do. Happy easter smile.gif

YEAH! We got our electricity back !!! The super cell that hit us on MONDAY knocked out the power. I was alone in the house when the power started flickering. It had been sunny all day, so I thought someone had hit a pole, but when I peeked outside and saw it coming I ran to get the pets in QUICKLY. The power went out seconds later and the storm hit seconds after that.

I was alone in the dark while this thing pounded us - scared to death it was going to pick up the house (AKA Wizard of Oz).

11 people died in the storm. 44,000 people were without power at first, yesterday morning it was 8000. Our phone is on the internet, so we had no phone either. Being in a rural area, our power was one of the last to be turned on. There are still several thousand without power as I type this.

I hadn't had time before it hit to unplug any electronics so I was really glad my PC came up just fine when the electricity was back this morning !!

We fared fairly well, only numerous shingles to replace on the roof and had to repair the gate for the dog pen, it was ripped from side of the house. I had to search for their water trough, it had been picked up and dumped.

The cell that is coming through today is supposed to be worse, so if I'm gone again you will know what happened, lol.

YEAH !! It is so good to have electricity again !!!!
mALX
GAAAH, the tornado warnings have already started here. I will stay on here as long as I can, but when the power starts to flicker I have to unplug.
Olen
Sounds worrying. Hope your ok and power stays in.

Just remember if your house is picked up that bloke in the emerald city is a bit of a fraud... and don't go talking to any lions. wink.gif Also the Yellow Brick road has a lot of speed traps now so watch you don't get a ticket...

Nothing so dramatic here. It's a brilliant day and I'm stuck in trying to learn physics - having computers do all my maths for me for the last year may have impacted my ability on paper a bit....
Acadian
GAAAH! is right, mALX. Stay safe today! sad.gif
haute ecole rider
Absolutely stay safe today, mALX! And you too, three dog wonder!

Talk about keeping a weather eye out! I'm supposed to walk the dog for a friend (she had hip replacement surgery over a week ago), but it's been raining yesterday and today. I'm thinking of just taking her out anyway, as she hasn't had a walk since Sunday. She's a very energetic English Springer, and needs her exercise (as do I!). It seems since Monday we've been brushed by the northern edge of the same system that hit mALX earlier (and will hit her again, it seems).

I have additional news as well. I have enrolled in an MBA course and will start classes on Monday. As it's all online, I will have the flexibility to visit with my Chorrol friends, but you might see less of me.

OHDH hasn't died yet! I'm just finding the next chapter very difficult to write. Believe me, once I have it tweaked to my (and Julian's) satisfaction, I will resume posting!

mALX

There goes the tornado warning again, and they have even called out my small rural area. I am unplugging now because I can hear thunder and the sky has darkened. Wish me luck.

Schools called and said the children will not be released till the storm has cleared the area, and not to come get them.
Acadian
Oh, good luck mALX! Hope it passes you by! sad.gif Gulp!

And Rider, how exciting to be going back to school for that MBA course! Don't worry on OHDH; we're just delighted to know you'll stay with it. I know you and Julian will produce more magic when you're ready! smile.gif
Thomas Kaira
Tornados are truly the fiercest storms on the planet.

they are the most awe-inspiring and terrifying things a human can ever witness.

Truly unbelievable. Do take care to stay safe, mALX.
Grits
Yikes, mALX!! Hope it passes you by. ohmy.gif

Good luck with the schoolwork saquin, Olen, and (woo hoo, congratulations!) h.e.rider!!

I’m glad to hear OHDH is still underway. Acadian said it perfectly. smile.gif
mALX
We are in a lull between storms, the first storm veered off and hit Oak Ridge.

I just wanted to pop on here and say ... Treydog is getting hammered. An enormous storm cell is passing over his area, and a tornado has been spotted there on the ground moving northeast at 65 mph.

There has been no reports from that area yet of damages.

Good Luck, Treydog !!

I gotta get back off here, just wanted to let ya'll know I was OK so far and about Treydog.

Record breaking over 13 hours of continuous tornado warnings across the state of Tennessee, and we were not hit as hard as Alabama. These pictures depict only my area and the counties that surround it. They do not include Chatanooga, which suffered much more damage than our area.

Omg, I was so busy with an RP at Beth yesterday that I didn't even come here... I was totally unaware all of this was going on! I'm so sorry!

mALX, I am so glad to hear that you are safe. That's so scary! Tornadoes are one of the things that simply terrify me, and thankfully in Wisconsin we don't get slammed with them very often... Those pictures you posted are amazing and terrifying.... My mom used to live near Knoxville, but she moved back up here to WI after the death of her great love... I visited her there, and it's beautiful, but I could never live in an area that gets hit with tornadoes so often... So scary! Thank God you are okay!

treydog, grits, mALX, Rick--and anyone else in these storms--I hope everything continues to get better, and I hope all of you will continue to stay safe! My prayers are with you.

TK--that video was truly hard to watch... but thank you for posting it... sad.gif

A friend of mine at church got a call from her daughter last night - their house in AL was demolished by one of those tornadoes yesterday. Fortunately the family weren't there, they were up here in the upper Midwest.

We get more than enough tornadoes around here. I remember when one skipped over the college campus and touched down on the other side of the ridge. Go figure, you'd think it would plow right though campus, since it occupies the top of the highest ridge between Cedar Rapids and the Mississippi River. But no, all it did was clip the corner off of the Pizza Hut at the eastern foot of the ridge and left the rest of the town and college untouched except for some damage from flying debris. Lucky!

I've been through microbursts, which are as close to tornadoes as you can get and still not get the funnel cloud. Bad enough, believe me!

Like everyone else, I do hope Ricky is absent due to increased work load and not because of these scary atmospheric freaks.
Olen
H.E.R - good to hear Julian is still terrorising the deadlands, I'll be waiting when you get the chapter into shape.

All those in the south of the US - hope storms abate and don't do any more damage. Rick, give us a shout if you're passing by.

Trey - golfball hail sounds unpleasant. I'm imagining smashed windows, dented cars and bruised arms...
Thomas Kaira
You didn't get any reports of funnel clouds, did you, Trey? Updrafts like that, and I would not be remotely surprised to hear there were. Marble-sized hail is enough to do some pretty good damage to your roof (know that from experience, but thankfully our insurance has agreed to pay for the repairs).

Bordering Texas (highest volume of Tornadoes in the U.S.), we occasionally get a few twisters to the east. It's scary enough knowing those things are close, I don't envy those who dwell in the Alley. You people have guts. wink.gif

Oh, and Syl, I think it's a lot more difficult to listen to the sound-byte of the Xenia storm. That tornado killed 34 people, it was one of the most violent in world history. Still, Wichita-Andover was nothing to scoff at. I'm pretty surprised that tornado did so little damage to McConnell AFB.
Grits
All is well here. I didn’t realize how stressed I was until it passed. We’re used to hurricanes, but tornadoes, no. Sure would like to hear from Rick.

I agree with you there--I could never live in those areas that get hit the worst. Too frightening for me...

Honestly, I didn't listen to the sound byte... I couldn't muster up the courage to... sad.gif

I am glad to know so many of you are okay, but seeing that no one here has seen or heard from Rick yet really has me starting to worry... I hope he's okay. We should definitely keep him in our prayers.

Wait--there he is! I just happened to see his name down there at the bottom! smile.gif
TheOtherRick
What a harrowing day yesterday! All is fine here for me and mine. It was a near miss. The tornado that devastated northern Birmingham miraculously lifted for a few miles before touching down again, sparing my mother, aunt, and grandmother. We have power and internet again here. Tomorrow, our company is donating a day of work to help with the clean up. The loss of life and property is unbelievable here. Please add the people of Alabama to your thoughts and prayers.
Lady Syl
Glad to know you're okay! Everyone was really starting to grow concerned! I will definitely keep you all in my prayers--seeing the various pictures and footage of the damage, and hearing about the loss of life is just heart-wrenching. There are no words that seem fitting in the face of such tragedy...

just finished watching the royal wedding!

also, I saw on the news how bad the damage is over in america. ohmy.gif

300 dead so far, wow. lets hope thats 0 from here.

All the tornado damage is crazy. I'm in Midwestern Arkansas and a tornado did some serious damage about five minutes down the road from here...all we got was some flooding and hail damage to our vehicles. Its crazy to see the damage around the rest of the state and some of the other states close by...its the worst damage I've seen around here in a long time.

Luckily it just missed us but for a little while I was sweating pretty good. blink.gif
minque
Just read this about the tornados! Itäs unbelievable, you see we don't normally have tornados here in Sweden, now we actually had one a couple of weeks ago but I'll come to that...

Anyway I'm SOO HAPPY to hear that the Tennesee-ans are safe and sound, treydoggie mALXie....jeez sweeties!

And I'm so sorry to hear about Alabama...Ricky, you all are in my thoughts! I pray for you..

Well the thing is i heard about the little tornado that hit the road between my work and my home ythree hours after it passed. I went home earlier that day so I actually missed the whole thing! Trees across the road, all kinds of rubbish spread..and the roof of a storage building at the harbor was just ripped off!

POWERFUL STUFF!

Thanks Ureniashtram and Jacki !! Er...I just took that pic yesterday, the date is wrong on it (and on all the pics of my pets) - I haven't figured out how to fix that yet, but I finally figured out how to turn it off from showing on the pics. I have to photoshop the date off there. If anyone knows the best way to do that, I would appreciate it.

Camera brand and model? It is a menu setting in most. (Date/Time On or Off).

In Photoshop, best bet is to use the Cloning tool.

Pick background spot that looks similar and brush over date stamp.

Pick different selections to make it look "right."

I have used that on Morrowind screenshots to get rid of menus and magic effect icons.

Oooh !! Thanks, Treydog !!! It is a Samsung S630. I found the menu and changed the date, can't seem to get it down to the time to fix that - but I noticed several entries where people complained that the date reset every time the batteries were removed. Since I remove the batteries after every use, I would just have to keep adjusting it before taking the shots and may miss a good one playing with it. I thought it best to turn off that feature, lol.

mALX - Congratulations on your son's graduation! He looks very nice is his tux and top-hat! I LOVE the top-hat! And is that his real hair? It's longer and thicker than mine! (If my hubby grew his out, it would be thicker than mine, too... Men have all the luck! wink.gif ) Well, he looks good, dear! I bet you're proud of him! (Oh god, my boy is just a baby, but 18 years will go by so fast! I'm already tearing up just thinking about it!) smile.gif

That is his hair. And when we were in the tux shop and he stepped out of the dressing room I teared up too. (embarrassing him in front of all his friends, most likely, lol). The first day of school seeing them walk into the school - same thing.

Eighteen years - it seems like it will never get there, but then suddenly feels like it has flown by. And it really has.

Something simpler than cloning. Any graphics program (including Photoshop) will give you a cropping tool. Just crop it from a horizontal rectangle to a vertical one, get rid of all the background to either side of your son, and have him fill the frame more. After all, you're taking a photo of him, not of the lovely frame building to his right or the dog pen to his left. He should be the brightest thing in that photograph.

Just my two drakes. wink.gif

Heh, MS paint can do that, I do it all the time with Oblivion screens.

You would have to be careful not to lose the awesome cane if/when you crop it.

Thanks !! I have "Paint" - (not very talented on it; an example is my avatar. I did the blindfold, lol)

I like that cane too, it really added to the effect.

Is it even possible to be talented with Paint?

That thing is worthless to me now. I use IrfanView, Paint.NET, and GIMP for all my imaging and texturing needs. Those are some pretty good tools, as well.

- Irfanview is used to prepare images to be uploaded to the Webz.

- Paint.NET is used for basic texturing work.

- GIMP is used for the more serious texturing work.

I have no use for Paint anymore except to fool around.

MS Paint is actually one heck of a program, man. Want proof?

That right there is a guy talented with MS Paint. So yes, it is possible to be talented with MS P.

On a side note, PSN is having some serious problems. The worst thing is that I can't sign in! That means no COD M.W 2! No! Oh, well. No skin off my teeth.

Just another example (though ureniashtram's were great) I've had this image on my hard drive for a couple of years. I don't know where I found it, it's not mine.

OMG! Those were drawn using MS Paint? I can't even draw "polarbears in a snow storm" using that program! tongue.gif

Seriously, though - I suck at using it. I can draw fairly well with pencil and paper, and paint in RL, but MS Paint is not my forte! lol

That is AWESOME Rick !!! How did you do that? I may have to get photoshop, I have pics of my dogs up on my web page that need the dates taken off. Are the instructions to do that easy enough that you could ... type them on here? Or copy and paste them? GAAAAH !!!

Photoshop is a massive (and expensive) program. If you were to get the program, I would highly recommend going to Barnes & Noble and buying a companion book. There are several good titles...one of which is Classroom in a Book for whatever version of Photoshop you have. The CIB books are actually published by Adobe, the company that made the program.

But to answer your question, there is a feature in the program called clone stamp, which allows you to take nearby pixels and "stamp" them over the undesired area.

A much easier solution for you might be to crop the photos. Almost any digital editing program (like MS Paint) has this feature. The date stamp is usually low enough in the photo that you can lop off the bottom 1/8 of the photo to get rid of the date stamp and still have a nice photo. However, in the photo of your son, cropping would eliminate his gloved hand from the photo.

"Why does your dog have only three legs?" ROFL !!! Thank you so much Rick, I may try playing with cropping them, that may be more to my speed then. It sounds like Photoshop would end up being another "Wrye-Bash" in my hands, ROFL !!!
