I started Spooky October by watching The Call of Cthulhu movie

I might parry that with a CoC:Dark Corners LP watch. Darkchiron does a good one and now that Reaper has bailed on us... whistling.gif

Reaps is busy with his new dog. Lol

I finally watched Hocus Pocus for the first time. It was worth it just for the autumn in New England vibes.

I liked the cat. Such a pretty cat.

Ooo, and even when I was a child I wanted a black flame candle, lol

Anyone watched Are You Afraid of the Dark?

That Nickelodeon show?

Well, as I'm sure many of you know, I'm not a big fan of zombies.

However, I started watching a new series on Netflix - La Revolution. It's a French series that is essentially an alternative history of the French Revolution - that it actually was because the French Nobles are necromancers/zombies preying on the common people.

In spite of my distaste for anything zombie-ish, I am enjoying this series.

Alternatively, on acorn.tv I've started watching a documentary called 1900 Island, a reality show about four families trying to make a living on a western Welsh island where the last fishing community died out 70 years ago. It's a striking contrast to modern life, and very interesting on a sociopsychological level . . .

I mean, that was a big part of my Saturday nights when I was a kid! I remember the one with Zeebo the clown used to freak me out! That mannequin of him in the funhouse was creep AF!

Yep, I remember those too. The pinball one was creepy because it was in a mall at night and that there was no escape. The soup one, iirc, featured Dr. Vink (with a “Vuh Vuh” laugh.gif ). He was running a cooking school that also ran a restaurant, and he was feeding people soup spiced with a liquidized fear juice that he was able to magically extract from his students.

Changing gears a bit, here is a gallery of Second Empire style houses. These are probably familiar because they tend to be associated with horror in pop culture. The house in Psycho/Bates Motel, and in Beetlejuice, as well as the Calvert Mansion and Blackthorn Hall from Fallout 3: Point Lookout are good examples of this kind of architecture. I think they are absolutely beautiful... and maybe a bit spooky!
SubRosa
Those are all good spooky houses. I can easily imagine the Scooby Gang poking around in any of them.

I believe I already mentioned that show April 1st over in Now Watching:

Normally I don’t watch zombie movies, buuuut . . .

I got suckered into The Kingdom by the Korean court intrigue - by the time I realized “Oh, this is a ZOMBIE series!” I was too invested and kept watching. The second season just came out and I had to watch the first one all over again to refresh my memory. Well worth watching, zombies or no.

Lol, yeah I failed last year and ‘Rocu had to do it.

So anybody have any fun plans this Halloween? Mostly for Khajiit, wedding preparation is taking priority this year. Future Mrs. Khajiit is getting a bridal shower that is also a costume party, but unfortunately Khajiit can’t go yo that, lol.

I have been having my annual Spooky October film festival. I started with Pitch Black, which may not be too spooky, but does have monsters. That led to Below, also by the same filmmaker who did Pitch Black.

That kicked off a slew of sea-borne horrors. Deep Star Six was the 80s personified, and a really bad movie. Who builds a nuclear weapon base on the bottom of the ocean? Then Leviathan, which was probably even worse. A few nights ago I did Ghost Ship, which was a really cool film.

In the pipeline is Deep Blue Sea, Lake Placid, and Virus.

And I took a detour from the ocean theme to watch Lost Boys today. Wow, it has been a long time since I saw that movie. It was another very 80s experience.

It’s not the ocean but does involve a “ghost ship” of sorts: Event Horizon. It’s been a while since I saw it but I remember it being very creepy and weird! You might add that to your list!

And yes, I would say Lost Boys should be in any vampire or Halloween film fest lineup. It’s classic!
SubRosa
I think I have seen Event Horizon relatively recently, so I am not really in the mood for it right now.

But I forgot to mention that I also watched the two new animated Addams Family movies with my neighbors. They were a lot of fun. Creepy, cooky, mysterious and spooky, altogether ooky. They really capture the essence of the old TV show. And Wednesday is great.

I had a very short spooky season this year due to road trips, but I managed to watch Hocus Pocus and Fright Night (2011). The scariest part was trying to pause a movie using the Xbox controller when someone rang the doorbell. We actually had trick-or-treaters this year! I gave one kid so much candy, he said "Oh wow!"

Today I have to go inside a Best Buy. I'm preparing myself to see a frightening number of Christmas decorations already up.

Sounds like you made the best of it!

I’m generally good with seeing the X-mas stuff as long as it’s not up before Halloween.

Khajiit’s Halloween was pretty quiet. We had one trick or treater on Saturday night (that’s when the powers that be in our area decided to have trick or treat because we “can’t have any of that Devil stuff on Sunday! Rabble Rabble!”) at future Mr. and Mrs. Khajiit’s country abode. It was our neighbor from the next house over, who just happens to be the person who got Khajiit and future Mrs. Khajiit together! She has a little one and brought him over. He’s also going to be the ring bearer in our wedding!

Also carved two jack o’lanterns which I may have pics of later.

So; we have October, guys!

I'm currently watching the James and Mike Mondays Friday the 13th episode on youtube and also darkchiron's LP of VtM:B. I'll also watch the J&MM Ghouls and Ghosts for the SNES episodes later.

IF, and that is a big IF, I actually start another run of VtM:B myself, I'll let you guys know tongue.gif

Woohoo October! We had some spooky fun this passed Saturday with a themed engagement party for some friends of ours who are getting married soon.

I have been watching the Hellraiser movies for the last few weeks for my Spooky October. I am up to the 7th movie. Boy, a lot of these are... not good. Pinhead is a great villain. The character design is great, Doug Bradley brings a really creepy vibe.

But the rest of the movies are just, lacking. The first movie is practically a porn. It is mostly just lots of sex. Then when you get to the middle ones, where they only barely have anything to do with Pinhead and the LeMerchant Box. I wonder if they were originally intended to be Hellraiser movies, or if some studio exec decided to put 2 minutes of Pinhead in them and call them Hellraiser films (like with 10 Cloverfield Lane). I have never seen the ones I am on now, so I have no idea if they are going to continue that or not.

I did see the new Hellraiser movie. It was ok. I liked how they reimagined Pinhead and the other Cenobites. In the originals, they had a real goth leather and rubber fetish outfit vibe to them (it was the 80s and 90s, and that was shocking back then). They got away from that, and it was more bare, self-mutilated flesh instead.

The story was interesting. They did more than just have a person open the box and terrible stuff happen to them. They put in some lore where if you sacrificed a certain number of people to the Cenobites, they would grant a wish. Naturally, their wishes turn out to be nightmares. The only way to win, is to reject them entirely.
mirocu
Sounds a lot like Wishmaster.

"Whatever you do; don't make a wish!"

Without really thinking about it, I have been doing a Dracula fest. I started with Dracula 2000, which had Gerard Butler as the Count, and Jeri Ryan as one his wives. Then I did the Frank Langella version from the late 70s. After that I dipped into my old Universal films collection, and watched House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula, both from the 40s.

Of course I also did Dracula: Dead and Loving It. I forgot that was a Mel Brooks movie. At least that was funny. Stupid funny, but funny.

Really, a lot of not very good movies! laugh.gif Though Dracula 2000 had some interesting ideas, with Van Helsing keeping himself alive for a century by injecting himself with Dracula's blood, and Dracula himself being Judas, cursed to live as a vampire after he hanged himself.

Next up I am looking at doing a Hammer Films Dracula fest. All the Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing I can stand!
mirocu
Those were interesting movie ideas for sure. Liked the Van Helsing movie when it came out btw. Also the Kung Fu Abraham Lincoln was fun laugh.gif

Also also; Christopher Lee was awesome whenever he appeared on screen in whatever role he played biggrin.gif
TheCheshireKhajiit
I remember Dracula 2000. The first time I saw it, I didn’t think much of it. The Judas angle was novel. Then I saw it a second time after having seen 300, and I was like “Holy crap! It’s the dude that plays Leonidas! As Dracula. Weird.” lol
