Tonight's the night, my fellow console players! Anyone staying up for it?

Em... anyone else playing on a console? hehe.gif

I wonder if console gamers can play with PC players on ESO?

Unfortunately no. Since I’ll be on a PS4 I’ll only be able to connect with PS4 players. And not until midnight tonight. (I just checked and still have a timer.)

Aw no, sad.gif

Darn it, that means if you like the game we still won't get to play on it together if we aren't on the same format? Urk.

** Oops, wrong thread. Edited that part out; moving to Everything thread - sorry about that.

So i got ESO for Xbox One, and it came with a code for some free goodies! I get a pet, some treasure maps, and the ability to play any race with any alliance.

Now if only I could get onto the servers and actually play the darn thing... sad.gif
Grits
Yay, congrats! I feel your pain, hazmick. I’ve had big problems today with errors, lag, and getting kicked off only to come back already dead. One quest is going to be a lot harder now due to an error. And possibly Jerric’s health is permanently damaged, since he has no active effects but it won’t fully regenerate. First day fun. biggrin.gif

My kids named the scuttler Pip. We keep losing him! I’m panicking because the lag is making Jerric stand still while I suspect he is dying from foes I can’t see yet, and the kids (who are both old enough to drive and should possibly not be so involved with a scuttler) are yelling WHERE’S PIP!? Relax, Pip is fine. He’s safe in the Collections tab. laugh.gif

Based on that article Jerric is heading back to Davon’s Watch to join the Fighters Guild before he kills any more undead on Bleakrock Isle. Also he needs more lockpicks. So far he has broken them all and not actually opened anything.

I had some fun with two other people taking on a pretty tough skeleton who was guarding a runestone. On first approach Jerric forgot he was wearing his “Hel-lo Ladies” shirt instead of his iron cuirass and learned the hard way what happens when you stay in the red cone and then don’t dodge big lightning attacks. The second time up the stairs a tiny archer was already getting her ass handed to her by the skeleton (floating health bars had mysteriously turned on), so Jerric got its attention and learned the range of his Sun Fire ability only to have a skinny Argonian still in his soul-shriven outfit charge past him and whack it with a giant hammer at the last second. That was hilarious. No one died and they all got their runestones.

Staves are a mystery to me. They don’t seem to need power or use up any magicka. Jerric has six or seven of them. He used a fire one and it seemed powerful, but he put it away because he likes to cast from his hands. Sigh. Maybe he’ll like a frost staff better.

So to the point of this topic, I think after all that there may be an advantage to the presence of other players. tongue.gif

Holding a weapon shouldn't effect (affect?) your casting at all, I have cast even with a two handed weapon like a bow or greatsword - it comes out of your hand underneath the hilt I think, or on the bow she drops the arrow and casts (I think).

I keep running out of lockpicks too, and I don't know how or where they are going. On several occasions Peregrine opened the chests for me and then stepped aside so I could take the loot.

The last dungeon you do on which you are evacuating the island - check every urn, every one available has lockpicks in it.

(and don't forget to get the SkyShard in that mine when you do that one; it is kind of out of your way, I almost forgot to get it).

Also, in people's houses, mouse over everything because not everything is stealing (like bookshelves with skill books in them, notes you should be reading, etc).

I have been having a LOT of trouble running out of space to carry anything, and there was no bank on that island. I wanted to go back to Davon's Watch and use the bank and buy a backpack so I could carry more items; and sort through the ones I had to remove all the cooking/crafting stuff from the bank - either use it or sell it to quit using up inventory space with it.

I found one recipe, but haven't cooked anything yet.

Oh, what are those red cone and circle things? I have seen them a lot in fights I was in, but didn't know what they were/what it meant.

Sorry, I meant that the staff is equipped instead of a weapon and the fire comes from the staff. Jerric prefers his Templar hand-cast abilities/spells where you keep your sword and shield equipped and the sunfire comes from his hands. He hasn’t tried to use a Destruction Staff ability/spell yet. I hope that works more like a hand-cast spell while you’re holding the staff.

Apparently lock picks come from general merchants and from looting the containers you find in houses. Jerric has been frustrated that he can’t find any lock picks or provisioning recipes, and provisioning recipes also apparently come from houses. It never crossed his mind to go rifle through people’s cupboards and dressers. *palms face*

There is a bank representative and a pack merchant in the market area of Bleakrock Village. They are both across from the alchemy and enchanting booths. Jerric’s first major purchase was a 10-slot pack from the pack seller.

Thank you for those tips! Jerric has only found one of the Bleakrock Skyshards and hasn’t explored either of those dungeons yet, so he will keep an eye out.

The red cones and circles on the ground are the areas of effect that an enemy is about to fill with your pain if you don’t move or possibly interrupt the attack. I’m not sure how interrupting works. Jerric’s new thing is dodging. He needs to dodge more.

If you are using a destruction staff the magic fire/ice/shock comes out of the end of the wand by pushing the left mouse button, and the spell comes out your hand using the (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) hot keys - so you can press both at once and nail the enemy to the wall before they can do much damage to you.

I'll have to remember to tumble out of those red cones and circles; or at least hit my right mouse button to block the spell - I keep forgetting to do that; and I learned that blocking in Coldharbour, it is what kept me alive in there. Urk.

Not sure how blocking works on the console games, but those spells can be blocked by a Templar.

I kept hearing cats meowing, and yesterday finally saw two cats in ESO! One was outside the door of a house in Daggerfall; all curled up against it like waiting to be let in!

The other was following a Player inside the bank in Davon's Watch. Their meows are so cute - especially if you are looking at them when they do it and see it happen!

They have a fox now too, I saw one waiting outside the smithy in Davon's Watch yesterday morning and Misa petted it!

The pet I've seen the most of is a black jaguar, they seem to be very popular.

Here is a list (and pictures of) some of the current vanity pets:

It took mine all day to download; and I've got the highest speed internet provider I can get without LAN. And my PC has 16 gig RAM; I thought it would download in no time!

Also, it takes more space than they say it will on your hard drive. When I bought the game they said to have at least 100 gig in reserve for it; and right now the patched game and DLC of ESO is taking up like 145 gig.

Hmm. I think its because of the amount of seeders who are downloading it. It helps it go along.

But it is pretty big. Freaks me out.

Ugh, 9GB update. I guess we all get Orsinium on our machines whether we’re going to pay for it and play or not. I still haven’t re-allocated my stuff from the last update. *sigh* Well, now I have plenty of time to read the patch notes while my PS4 sits there humming.
mALX

l haven't played in a month, so it will probably take that long to update. But I did cancel my paid membership. Really have not been into the DLC they have come up with so far; and that is the only reason I paid for the membership in the first place - to test out all the DLC for free and decide whether it was worth buying or not.

I'm not interested in Orsinium; didn't care much for the IC one (though might go down there and nab the skyshards before it gets deleted; they said you do get to keep your rewards from there when you cancel your membership).

That is ridiculous! It is huge! That puts the game way over the 100 gig hard drive space they said to allow. And I don't understand why they need to download it to your PC "Just in case" you decide you want it; it would make a LOT more sense for it only to be downloaded if you purchased it or have a paid membership.

Started the Orsinium DLC today. So far so good.

It adds the region of Wrothgar, which seems to be about the same size as any of the larger regions in the game, though I won't know exactly how big it is until I've been everywhere and discovered all of the locations. At first glance it looks to be about the same size as Stonefalls - maybe a teeny bit bigger.

It looks gorgeous though. Very Skyrim-ish (unsurprisingly) but maybe even more mountainous. Half the map looks snowy, and I'll explore the other half soon. Already seen some cool new critters and met some interesting NPCs.

The actual city of Orsinium is one of the largest cities I've seen in ESO. Looks really cool, and I've already learned a bit about Orc stuff. They even have a museum, which was the first place Haa Rei wanted to visit.

DLC also adds some new weapons and armor apparently, but I'm yet to see any. Haa Rei was very much looking forward to some warm, furry cloaks or something. Perhaps one day. We purchased a Polar Bear mount though, so it's not all bad news.

The area is technically Veteran level 16, but all players are scaled up to Veteran 15 when they enter so you can jump in whenever you want.

So of turns out that there ARE new crafting styles. Mercenary styles can be found by doing quests for the Undaunted, and the Ancient Orc styles can be found in the two public dungeons in Wrothgar - basically locking it all off for single players.

Fortunately I've managed to find most of the Mercenary styles at various guild traders, and I'm keeping an eye out for Ancient Orc stuff.

Yeah, some of the better rewards are hard to impossible to get without help from friends. There have been several times I have gone in on the coat-tails of a group and just helped them fight if I couldn't find anyone to let me join up with them.

Looks like I'm all done with Orsinium in terms of quests. Also done all the delves, explored all the caves etc.

There's still plenty to do, but not for a solo player like me. Might hang around some of the world bosses and hope a party comes through that I can follow.

Very enjoyable DLC. I'd recommend it to anyone who is an ESO fan.

Looking forward to the next DLC (Which is rumored to be released in February), and I still have plenty of stuff to do in Tamriel before then.

Haa-Rei and I have been taking part in the Cyrodiil PvP over the last few days. I had to re-do all of his skills and stats to better optimise him for the harsh conditions of the Alliance War, but once you get the right character build set up the whole thing is really fun.

The servers are very laggy though, and it's a widespread problem on all platforms that Zenimax have been trying to fix for over a year. The other major problem is a lack of balance in the alliances. One minute your alliance might be doing great, the next - everyone goes offline or more enemy players come online and they sweep across the whole map. There's nothing in place to stop players from switching characters on the fly so you often get people switching to the winning alliance when the tides of battle turn. Personally I think you should be restricted to having one character on each server, and rewards should be given to players who fight for a single alliance for a long time.

The battles themselves are super fun though. Huge sieges and massive melees feel really exciting. Of course there's still PvE in Cyrodiil, and this offers just as many places to explore and people to meet than other zones in the game - just keep an eye out for enemy players while you do so.

We also figured out how to get armour for mounts, but it's going to take a looooong time.

Jerric had a small breakthrough the last time we played. A big issue I have with the game is that Jerric does not have a sense of inhabiting the world. For example he can do a lying down animation at will, but that’s not the same as sleeping. For water he’s been gathering the alchemy water ingredient and then using the Destroy menu option to “drink” it. That’s kind of worse than not drinking water at all. Today he crouched down at a water collection spot, did the scooping animation, and then stood up without collecting the inventory item. Cue smug Nordic grin. It wasn’t there because he drank it. Sometimes it’s the little things. smile.gif

BOLD: This is already the way it is done, you cannot have two player characters of different Alliances on the same Cyrodiil server - I learned that when I tried to bring Calia into Cyrodiil on the same server Misa was there on.

But I am so excited that you are doing the civil war stuff, I did want to try it one day too! Have you captured anyone's Elder Scroll? What kind of changes to your build did you have to make? A friend of mine uses different add-ons for his PvP character.

That scooping motion sounds better, I've been using the drinking animation like she poured it into a cup and drank from the cup; and for sleeping have been climbing onto mats or cots and laying down. What is the code for the scooping water animation? - Oh wait, I know what you are talking about! When you are collecting water for alchemy? Oh, good idea!

(For me) - I find it kind of more immersive to actually see my character sleeping than the (darkened screen effect). That "See You Sleep" mod in Oblivion was one of my absolute favorite mods; so I was really tickled that they incorporated it into ESO.

Here is Misa sleeping at a camp she stopped in at - really wish that letter prompt didn't ruin this screenshot, lol.

Have you captured anyone's Elder Scroll? What kind of changes to your build did you have to make? A friend of mine uses different add-ons for his PvP character.

Capturing an Elder Scroll is way above a solo players abilities. It takes a big team of skilled players to nab one.

I had to completely re-do Haa-Rei's build. All his attributes, skills, champion points. He's now a stamina build, and relies on critical hits/critical damage and various buffs to keep him alive. Spent ages mooching about the ESO forums to see what abilities other players were using.

Cyrodiil is crazy unbalanced though. Some players are going around doing 20k damage with a single attack, and Haa-Rei only has 20k health. ohmy.gif

He's a sorcerer and an archer, so we can't just dive into big fights. We spend a lot of time in stealth mode, scouting around, and fighting from the relative safety of high castle walls.
