Good description, Buff!

Finally, Buffy mentioned that her journal is almost full. Long term readers of BF will recognize she is heralding that her next episode will open a new forum thread.

I caught that! (believe it or not, lol) !!!

I love it when Buffy stands up for who she wants to be - or doesn't want to be. She shows her inner strength and...stubborness in those moments - real Buffy personality that readers that know her and love her recognize right away !!

Spot on brother regarding the frenzy vs Command humanoid. So many times I have tried frenzy in a confined surrounding – not a good idea!!
The basic command creature / humanoid doesn’t do much though. It is far better to customize that spell.

Awesome fight with the Orc!! When he collided with Buffy I thought, Oh NO!
I loved the screenpic. First Buffy has a book land on her at the Uni, and now somebody from Orsinium does the job on her. Lol.
The unsettling feeling of vampirism was a lovely addition to the chapter. Though not from Buffy’s POV, of course. ohmy.gif

The only other threat to an ancient was to suffer defeat in combat at the hands of a Slayer. Every vampire instinctively knew the threat posed by these mysterious women, and our keen senses recognized the scent that announced their presence. They could detect us well. How they did so was unknown, since masking our scent could not deter them. Slayers often possessed minor powers that aided them in battle. They could not be turned to vampirism; porphyric hemophilia, when contracted, simply produced severe illness until cured. Hindaril proudly proclaimed that over the centuries, he had killed two Slayers.
Very interesting. Your beautiful tale is becoming more and more intriguing by the moment. Not only are you expanding what we can see, but you have also put some thought in Buffy’s family heritage. Awesome!!

The Journal of Dratik was amazing. Did you write that in one sitting or tinker with it over many rewrites? Very impressive writing. Bravo!!

"Acadian, I don't care for this Slayer business one bit. I guess we're supposed to feel a calling to seek out and destroy vampires. I just want them to stay away from me. Am I doing the right thing?" My brow furrowed as I poked at the fire with a stick. Several sparks leapt skyward, and my eyes continued upwards to the twinkling stars.

This is my favourite part of the chapter. I have always been a sucker for rumination and philosophy under the stars. Buffy, my girl, I must give you this – Hug_emoticon.gif

The Child of Dawn was a wonderful addition. It has allowed us to ponder and consider what you might have in store for our delightful Bosmer. Hmmmmm.....

I hope your expanding BF doesn’t mean that the Archery tournament will take 150 chapters to resolve??
We are still hanging on the result, well, sort of. biggrin.gif

Acadian
Chapter 26 was the conclusion of 'Child of Dawn', and final episode for this thread. Buffy earned the Star of Azura, and named her mighty bow. She views the fact that she is a Slayer as more curse than blessing, and does not intend to become a vampire hunter.

hazmick- I'm so glad you agree with Buffy about not hunting vampires in the reasonable future. Thank you also for the nod to Acadian.

Rider- Thank you for your endorsement of how harrowing the last vampire fight was. That was a tough dungeon, as you wisely warned us!

SubRosa- Thanks for the observations on Buffy's hunting. Daenlin taught her the best way to respect the beautiful prey animals she must kill to eat, is to waste as little as possible. Heh, no Willow or Xander or Giles; perhaps Buffy may meet a small mage named Angel, or when someday she learns how to summon a clannfear, she will name it Spike. tongue.gif

treydog- I am so pleased that Buffy's complex motivations and logic made sense - sometimes they don't to her, of course. Likewise, thanks for the kudos regarding 'how things work'. We work hard to reflect the fantasy world she lives in, but try to offer explanations when we can. Thank you so much for seizing on Buffy's 'G'night John Boy' as it related to her crew of Slayer, Superian and Acadian. This poor elf may not get much privacy, but by Mara, she is never lonely. tongue.gif

Destri- Thank you. I'm so delighted that the 'Child of Dawn' storyline all worked! We definitely have plans that draw upon her being a Slayer, but not for a very long time.

Grizzly- Thanks for the kind words. Although Buffy being a Slayer is simply a part of who she is, can you imagine (in the very distant future) the sparks at her first meeting with Count Skingrad? ohmy.gif

Zalphon- Thank you for enjoying our descriptions!

mALX- I knew you would know exactly what Buffy's reference to a new journal was! Thank you for your so very beautiful words regarding Buffy's personality. That means the world to hear!

Wolf- Thank you for the wonderful words! Dratik's Journal took loads of tinkering and rewrites - well, all our stories do, really - embarrased.gif . I'm so pleased that you enjoy Buffy's ruminations.

We'll still get to the Archery Tournament. We had to get 'Child of Dawn' in at this point to grab Azura's Star and name Buffy's bow pretty early in her story. We will limit expanding Book 1 because there is that pesky Oblivion gate pending. Although it will wait for Buffy to get there (aided by the power of Akatosh, magic of Acadian, patience of Savlian and a touch of pixie dust biggrin.gif ), Kvatch will more and more start to drive and focus what Buffy does. Most of our other new ideas that don't directly support the road to Kvatch are 'resting' for Books 2 and 3. Other new things you will see in Book 1 are either minor and/or lay background for beyond Kvatch.

Looking ahead at the big picture:
Book 1 will see Kvatch freed of Daedra.
Book 2 will include the remainder of the Oblivion Crisis, but don't expect our frail wood elf to be the Champion of Cyrodiil.
Book 3 will be free-form adventures across Cyrodiil and beyond.

All- Our next episode will open the second season (thread) as we continue with Buffy's Book 1. We are so humbly grateful for the warm and gracious encouragement we have received from each of you. Thank you for allowing Buffy to shoot, squirm and ruminate her way onto the screen of your monitor.

Thread 2 and Buffy's other threads may be found on Acadian's sub forum.

There is a lot of good news in that post- particularly the fact that there is so much more of Buffy's story to anticipate. And I guess my little "Good night" sequence is one of those cross-generational things... There is the older Waltons referent- and also the children's book Good-Night Moon. There is also a version from The Wire that has a certain dark humor-

Goodnight moon
Goodnight stars
Goodnight po-pos
Goodnight fiends
Goodnight hoppers
Goodnight hustlers
Goodnight scammers
Goodnight to everybody
Goodnight to one and all.

Have I mentioned recently how happy I am that Buffy has found a home here with us? If not, consider it mentioned.

Not only you. A certain stringy wood elf wants to know too, as she is competing!

Book 1 promises to be immense! There is still so much that Buffy has to learn before she should be contending with daedra and Oblivion Gates. I know she wants to aid poor Savlian and the brave, beleaguered citizens of Kvatch, but she can't help anybody if she is unprepared.

Wow, I'm starting to sound like Daenlin! blink.gif

I'm finally here, to post my thoughts and I'm just loving the developement of Buffy.

I'm still far from catching up with the rest of you guys from balancing schoolwork, work, FO:NV hype, and family to get some spare time to read and post on the series.

Acadian, your writing and comprehension levels are developing at major skill speed. (by vanilla oblivion standards)
Acadian
Mutamil, thanks so much for joining us and reading! What a pleasure to see you over here. We appreciate the kind comments! tongue.gif

Acadian, I first saw your unique postings over at Bethesda's official forums and enjoyed them very much. Just tonight I decided to follow the link in your signature over here. I have read up to 7.1. Buffy has just met Superian so far. I signed up here to tell you how great a job you have been doing thus far and that I look forward to reading more of Buffy's adventures.

This has also inspired me to want to write an adventure of my own, but I guess I am not allowed to post a new thread as a new user. I guess there is a posting ceiling I have to break through before I am allowed to do so.

Take care, and take even better care of Buffy.
Acadian
PGaither84, I'm so glad that Buffy chattering over at the other forum about her exploits brought you over here! I so hope you will continue to read her story! Thank you for the kind words. smile.gif

I knew my hair was a mess. I was also sure I didn't smell too good.
Now that is total chickness, to think of those things. Guys take notes for when you write female characters

You are not the one who will save the Empire, but it cannot be saved without you.
OOooOh, this is a good touch! I like how you have aligned Buffy in this way, not as the lone Champion of Cyrodiil, but rather as one of many who have an important part to play.

Indeed, this is an excellent touch, and well-written. I would have struggled to write that segment, and likely would have used too much in-game dialogue, making it unnecessarily long. But you knew just what to do with it, and I applaud you.

I hope you don't mind me commenting on past chapters as I work my way up from the beginning. I really want to read the whole story, so I'm just going to try to catch up. smile.gif

Fortunately I had found some wisp stalk and stinkhorn, along with a mortar and pestle. Thanks to Ardaline, in the Bravil mages guild, I knew how to use them.

I like that you mentioned how she learned alchemy--it gives just enough information about her past, without going into too much detail, since the point of the story is not meant to take place in her past. Good job! smile.gif

QUOTE(Acadian @ Jun 22 2010, 11:24 AM) *

All of a sudden a Red Robe burst through a secret door and summoned a suit of armor and mace. Before the Emperor could draw his sword or I could nock an arrow, the mace struck the side of Uriel Septim's head. There was a sickening crack, and the ruler of Tamriel fell. The assailant then turned to me, blood dripping from his mace. I nearly wet my pants, but managed to scream for help and began casting my fire spell as fast as I could while backing up. I brought my bow up in time to block the first blow of his mace.

I loved the "I nearly wet my pants" part. That was great! laugh.gif

QUOTE(Acadian @ Jun 22 2010, 11:24 AM) *

After producing some items from a pouch at his waist, Baurus uncapped an inkpot, then handed me a quill and a parchment form to fill out. "I need some information so l can make sure a full pardon is issued for whatever you're in here for. I don’t want the Legion stopping you on the way to Chorrol."

I had no idea what most of the stuff on the form was. I mean, I could read; Nilawen had taught me how so I could help her with the bookkeeping for her store. I simply didn't understand many of the questions. It seemed someone did though. I was beginning to trust Acadian, so I just closed my eyes and let him guide my hands to fill out the form.

I like how you went about this part, with the papers to exempt her and explain what class she is. I would never have thought of that.

QUOTE(Acadian @ Jun 22 2010, 11:24 AM) *

The beautiful white fur collar of the royal robes was now soaked with blood from the fatal head wound.

Smells. Rats. Goblins. Yuck. Daylight! Only a few slivers, but real sunshine ahead. Thank you Mara. Rusted and unused, the round gate required several kicks to finally creak open, exposing full daylight, fresh air and a beautiful lake.

I liked that you added the detail about the emperor's collar being soaked with blood, as it adds to the realism. Also, I like how you mentioned that the sewer gate was rusted and it was a nice visual to see Buffy kick the door open.

QUOTE(Acadian @ Jun 22 2010, 11:24 AM) *

I was so excited I started dancing around like a little, well, wood elf.

I love this line. And I also like how she wanted to freshen herself up, though I forgot to include that in the quote. Excellent job! biggrin.gif

I know you sent me the summary link, but I wanted to start with Book 1 in full story form. Very cool how this starts, Acadian, with City Swimmer getting busted and whatnot. Very creative.

EDIT: I read up to the end of the second post, when the Emperor asks Buffy what her Starsign is, so far.

I just finished this Book after starting a few days ago... and wow, what an absolute pleasure to read! There's nothing I can really add to everything that has already been said, most of it over a decade ago no less, but, seriously, what a wonderful story. I realise Buffy has her darker elements, and that, just like any protagonist, she'll have her adversaries, but even so, I really enjoyed the somewhat light tone paired with a very complex character. Looking forward to seeing Buffy's journey unfold in Book 2! smile.gif

Honestly, this place is such a treasure trove of amazing writing, I feel so privileged to be able to read it.
Acadian
Thank you so much for reading this. Picking up an older story can be daunting - especially wordy ones like Buffy's. Buffy's first book is spread out over the five threads (so labeled) and is massive indeed. Books 2 and 3 are here as well. If it is all too much or if you just want to get a one sitting feel for her story overall, I highly recommend reviewing her 'Executive Summary' pinned at the top of this subforum.

Buffy is currently adventuring in the Second Era (ESO) and I'd expect her next fiction endeavor will likely be either a fourth book or perhaps an addition or two to her short stories thread.

Thanks again for reading, and for your kind words as well.

I deleted the post you made on thread two since you said you wanted it so. Members cannot delete posts but admins or mods can easily do so. Just edit any mistake posts to request deletion and we'll take care of it.
