They distract people from the bigger picture.

Here's some background for you guys. I used to suffer from acute thanatophobia, or fear of death. My family was christian, so i assumed the only palce for me to turn to was christianity, and the idea that heaven existed helped me. But I had the sort of personality that just liked to pick things apart and analiyze them, and it got in the way of my religion. How could God consider himself such a good judge of character? Why do unborn babies have to sit in limbo until God figures out what to do with them if he's such a supreme being? Why do homosexuals go to Hell? What if homosexual saved like 300 hundred people from a burning building? Etcetera. So, eventually it wasn't belief in Heaven that got me through it, but just accepting death as an inevitability and not dwindling on it. It took a while to finally hit the revelation. These days after I wake up and suddenly think, "Time flashes before my eyes. I'm going to die someday." I later think, "So what?"

Some people need an afterlife to help them deal with issues, but for those that don't need it, I suggest you live for today.

To me, not really. Because Christians believe in the same God right? My family has faith in Him, and whatever happens, happens.

Also, I don't agree with the Bible entirely. It's a bit too... I'm not sure, but it does not match some of my own views.

I believe in good morals and a good and kind god, but having to worship one specific god in order to escape hell is a bit... much... *shrugs* Sounds like brainwashing to me.

Also, why do only certain kinds of people go to hell? I've met some very nice homosexual guys and mean heterosexual guys and vice-versa. Who goes to hell?

Hey I didn't realize you were from Ireland LoneWolf! I was born there! Not sure where though... I'm 1/4 irish, god knows what Crete Indian (Yea those bad warrior indians, truly savages) and add a lil italian into the mix.. plus a little english, and scottish, and spanish, did I mention my anscestors were very.. "happy" people?

EDIT: BTW I am a proud christian.. even though sometimes I'm not the best. I believe what I believe but I don't think homo's will go to hell.

Acutally lonewolf. that's not true. Most people around the world do not have alcohol as their beverage of choice during lunch. In Ireland a typical lunch break, as my Irish teacher describe it, was going out with a few friends to a pub, having a few beers and a meal.

Interesting. Most people i know have a normal lunch, not an alcoholic one.
