I'm currently listening to the album "God Was Created" by Vehemence, an American Melodic Death Metal band. Their style of Melodic Death leans much more to the brutal, American style of Death Metal rather than the infectious Swedish kind. And for those of you who are faint at heart, I wouldn't suggest reading the lyrics, as they can be quite twisted and morbid. Despite that, they are more tasteful than most lyrics you'll find in this sub-genre. The music is wicked too.

New Mars Volta CD! It's called The Bedlam in Goliath and it's great so far. Very Mars Volta-ish, but still very new and original. This band never disappoints me.

Haven't listened to it all the way through yet, but my favorites so far are "Aberinkula" and "Goliath."

Funny! I'm having a Fear Factory day as well! DDS didn't come up yet, but I will be singing along when it does.

Lyrics to it are confusing me a bit :S must be some obscure brittish industrial thing... don't know about original but the FF version is awe-inspiring.

Zero signal, on the other hand, that is one downer of a song. Dang.

After spending the weekend with my cousin, I've come to like a few new songs. Numb by Linkin Park and Silver and Cold (Afi). Still, there were some songs I doubt I'll ever consider downloading, at the most. But I've really taken after:

-Diem Ex Dei and Preliator (Globus)
-Citizen Soldier (3 Doors Down)
-Time of Dying, Never Too Late, and Animal I've Become (Three Days Grace)
-Striken (Disturbed)
-In The End (Linkin Park)

To name a bunch. hehe.gif

She can walk out anytime, anytime she wants to walk out, that's fine,
She can walk out anytime, anytime she feels that life has passed her by,
And when I start my new life I won't touch the ground,
I'm gonna try hard this time not to touch the ground.

He can walk out anytime, across the sand, into the sea, into the brine,

So we sold the car and quit the job
and shook some hands and wiped the make-up right off,
And we said our good-byes to the bank
left Seven Sisters for a room in a seaside shack,
And when I start my new life I won't touch the ground,
I'm gonna try hard this time not to touch the ground?

Not a fan of Suede, but this one, both tune and the words, get to me every time, especially the ending [italic]. Maybe because it is so optimistic?

I don't like Suede, but this song stirs something inside of me. And the singer's sound, usually annoying, is perfect this one time.

I'm listening to Genitorturers' "Flesh is the Law" album. Again. Why? Because I got a CD hand-signed by Gen (their lead singer) today. That's reason enough smile.gif

My favorite by far is the song for which the album is named. One of the reasons for that is how Gen can change from screaming at the top of her lungs to actually singing smoothly in a fraction of a second.
<scream>YEAH YEAH YEAH!</scream><sing>Flesh is the laaaaaaw!</sing>

Heh, what a coincidence - I'm currently listening to that exact same album. Mine of course is not signed tongue.gif

Perfect Sunday morning listening to send the folks around me mellowly off to church wink.gif And yes, her voice is awesome!
milanius
Metallica - St. Anger. I must be the only person on the planet to love that song and find meaning in lyrics "I'm madly in anger with you".

Then again, I am not avid Metallica fan. And this is a very un-Metallica song, no solo partitures, no Satriani-type BS from Hammet, just pure, hard-core rampage and fury. And that bass in the opening, as well as middle of the song, awesome.

Morcheeba - Down by the sea. Complete contrast. Relaxing, soothing, mild and the voice of the singer is almost caressing you.

Radiohead - High and Dry. One of the few Radiohead songs that doesn't make my eyes tear up. Great voice by Yorke, great melody, great rhytm.

p.s.: Welcome back Burndth, 'tis nice to see you again

Currently listening to "A Beautiful Lie" by Thirty Seconds To Mars. I know a few people have slated them in the past, but I like them. tongue.gif

Also been spending a lot of time listening to "My Winter Storm" by Tarja and "Venus Doom" by HIM. Not that I had a lot of choice in the last two, as Dawn has had them on repeat for the whole week.... Just as well I like them eh?

This has nothing to do with the music (because I haven't actually heard it), but since I just came back from Geology class, that sounds like the last thing I would want to listen to right now.

Anyway, listening to the track "Scott Taylor" by Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains. The band (as you may have been able to tell from the name) consists of Les Claypool on bass, Buckethead on guitar, Brain on drums, and Bernie Worrel on keyboard. Makes for some pretty weird music. I like many of the songs I've heard from them (Scott Taylor being my favorite), but sometimes they just sound like horrible circus music and I can't take it. I guess you take the good with the bad.
canis216
Hey, don't knock geology...

On a semi-related note (strained connection, no doubt), I discovered Jack Johnson's "F-Stop Blues" while I was spending long hours in the darkroom in my photography class a few years back... as a huge photography geek I love that track.

More on-topic, I can't say I've gotten any new music lately. I am awaiting The Black Keys' next album, which I think is coming out in April.

Reznor is a man who gives more than he receives, but sometimes love fights trough and comes back. "Limitless Potential" fan-remix LP is example of that. You don't even need to steel it anymore.

Currently listening to the:pawn.project - Me, I'm Not (Void Mix); a perfect blend of melancholic piano with funky, agitated underlaying guitar and overlaying electronic noise.

I've been playing three cd's to death the last couple of days. First one, I blame Metal Mallet for tongue.gif

He's mentioned the band "In Flames" a few times previously in this thread, and I saw they had a new album - "A Sense Of Purpose" - coming out in the UK yesterday, so I thought I'd buy it and see what it's like. Five full plays through, I have a new band I love. It's absolutely fantastic. So my thanks Mallet biggrin.gif

Second album been playing a lot is "The Alchemy Index Vols 1&2" by "Thrice". I've had this album for about 7 months, and Volumes 3&4 is coming out later this month - and is on my must buy list - so been listening to it again to remind myself just how good they are. For anyone who hasn't heard them, here's a sample track:

Today I bought The Black Keys' brand-new album, Attack and Release. Interesting stuff--a collaboration with producer Danger Mouse that is a significant departure from their usual sound in many ways... but is still unmistakably a Black Keys record.

Official (though oddly incomplete) video for "Strange Times": inspiring

Concert performance of same: very nice

I haven't found other songs from the album available to listen on-line yet--but the album's only been out like a week and a half, and the Keys are somewhat under-the-radar, so not surprising.

In any case, a fascinating album which I'll be listening to a lot in the next few weeks, I'm sure.

Edit: Correction, there are more tracks available. Here's one of my favorites, "Things Ain't Like They Used To Be"

Well BSD I've got good news for ya, if you love their new album, their older stuff will blow your mind (hopefully). Since you've started with their "new" sound, I'd probably suggest that you get the album "Come Clarity" next. From there, I'd say try out "Whoracle", "Clayman", or "Colony" and then follow either of those three with "The Jester Race". Be prepared though for a slight change in their sound. When you look at their discography, they start changing once "Reroute to Remain" was released. Personally, I like their sound before that change better than their newer stuff but "Come Clarity" is definitely their best album which showcases their newer style.

Here's some sample songs:
In Flames - The Jester Race (from the album, The Jester Race) Definitely my favourite song on that album.

In Flames - Leeches (from the album, Come Clarity)
This is probably the most vicious sounding song on the album and I actually liked the clean vocals used on this song.

In Flames - Episode 666 (from the album, Whoracle)
This one is my favourite track from that album. Catchy as hell.

I'm also looking forward to the next Thrice release as well. From what I understand, the Earth EP is mainly acoustic stuff to make it sound "natural". The Air EP is supposed to be a mixture of all the other EPs. Some of the samples I've heard have been quite promising.

To Ethelle: The Ocean plays a style of metal that I would call "Progressive Death Metal" but don't associate that with Opeth. To me, if Neurosis adopted a Death Metal sound, they would sound like this.

I suppose I'll give you a sample song as well:

The Ocean - Orosirian
It's kinda hard just to pick one song from them to suggest since the whole double album (yes two CDs, one of them compromised of short songs, the other has the longer, more progressive songs, like the one in the video) has a lot of different sounds on it. Since I like this song in particular due to the slow, sometimes forlorn sound it has, I picked it.

stargelman
I know it's not exactly original but right now I love to listen to Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. I guess one of the reasons is that I can so relate to the lyrics of Time, especially the very first line:

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

I love that album so much, and I think when people say rock music has seen its best years this is what they're thinking of as the best of times. Every single song is a masterpiece!

I'm excited - more excited about an album release than I can remember. Let me give you some background so you know why.

October, 1990 - I saw the greatest concert of my life, at the age of 16. Best up to that point, and nothing has ever matched it since, and I've seen a lot of great bands in the intervening 18 years. The concert? Clash Of The Titans - Slayer, Megadeth, TestAmenT and Suicidal Tendencies. The highlight of the day was the INCREDIBLE TestAmenT. At that point they'd released 2 of the best thrash albums made - The New Order and my personal favourite Practice What You Preach. They were poised to be the biggest of them all. On that day they absolutely blew Megadeth and Slayer off the stage, and they were both good. And then it all went wrong...

April, 2008 - 18 years later. They've just released their first studio album for 9 years after some pretty poor death metal albums in the 90's, the lead singer overcoming throat cancer, their lead guitarist playing jazz rather than metal and their drummer retiring. Well the lead guitarist is back, they've brought in ex-Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph and they've released the best thrash album they've done since the heady days of the late 80's. It may not quite live up to the peak they set with Practice What You Preach, but it's not far off. For those that reckon Rust In Peace is the pinnacle of what Thrash achieved, give these guys a listen. They've got a lot of music left in them yet.

So welcome back TestAmenT. I've been listening to The Formation Of Damnation non-stop since yesterday, and it just keeps getting better and better each listen through. I'm so happy, I almost feel 16 again. wink.gif
The Metal Mallet
Hehe, a lot of the metalheads I talk to find that the album previous to "Formation...", "The Gathering" was one of Testament's best recordings. But I agree with you on "Formation...", I'm definitely eager to get my hands on it ever since I heard the full stream of it on their myspace. Chuck Billy's vocals are flippin' awesome.

Fact.

Anyway, been listening to a lot of Lamb of God recently. I'd heard them before from friends, but never really got into them myself until a few months ago. I started out with Ashes of the Wake and was blown away. After listening to a lot of other songs on youtube, I as torn between which I should by first, Sacrament or As the Palaces Burn.

The record store chose for me, since As the Palaces Burn failed to be on the shelf. So I walked out with Sacrament and I haven't been disappointed. (Except for the single, "Redneck." There is this one chorus-ey part that goes "This is a mother ******* invitation The only one that you'll ever need..." it seriously bothers me. It's like a tiny nugget of lame in an otherwise cool song. I can't explain why I hate it, I just do, and it ruins the whole song for me.) Most Lamb of God fans don't really like this album, but I think they're nuts. Songs like "Forgotten (Lost Angels)", "More Time to Kill", and "Beating on Death's Door" make the album, and though they are much different, I'd say they hold their own in comparison to the songs on Ashes of the Wake, the album most Lamb of God fans cite as their favorite.

I'm a long-time fan of J-Pop (Japanese Pop), just never really knew what to call it. J-Pop is pretty nice to listen to while writing. Like other genres, there aren't have any groups I follow. Well, I got started hearing some stuff from Two-Mix, but I like it in general. AC4A trailer There's a pretty good song in this video.

I also like the works of groups like Globus (owned by Immediate Music). They sing many of their works in Latin, some languages sound so good in song even when you have very little idea what they're singing.

Listening to this album brings back a lot of memories for me. I'm only 20 years old, but I remember in my early teen years when I was just getting into the Who and I heard all these albums for the first time - Quadrophenia, Who's Next, Live at Leeds, Sell Out, and the rest. I love them all.

As a young man, I could really identify with their songs - they really resonated with me. I think I'd be a very different person if I hadn't heard them.

So yeah...this album is magnificent. Quadrophenia is probably my favorite, though.
