1. Idlewild - In Competition For The Worst Time (2:43)
2. Idlewild - Everything (As It Moves) (3:22)
3. Idlewild - No Emotion (3:04)
4. Idlewild - Make Another World (4:06)
5. Idlewild - If It Takes You Home (2:07)
6. Idlewild - Future Works (4:16)

8. Idlewild - A Ghost In The Arcade (2:48)
9. Idlewild - Once In Your Life (4:29)

Let me tell you, this stuff is good. It might be mellow at times, but it is damn god. Scots can be proud of Womble and his crew.

Did someone say 'unmellow" >:D hell yeah, Idlewild do unmellow too:
QUOTE(A modern way of letting go)
If I know, what I know, then no one will watch over you
So someone shouldn't really tell me what I want to know
I know, I owe, and I know that matters don't matter as much
As you think they do
You will only be yourself
When you can never be yourself
And you will only be yourself
When you understand what you know
How long, will we go on with a modern way of letting go,
tell me how long will we go on with the modern way of letting you go?
If I know, what I know, losing isn't learning to be lost
It's learning to know when you're lost
If I know, what I know,
I'll want to make the most of what it seems like
You will only be yourself
You can never be yourself
And you will only be yourself
When you understand what you know
How long, will we go on with a modern way of letting you go,
tell me how long will we go on with the modern way of letting you go?
That's done in 144 loud seconds. Head collision of Punk & Indie. And, like entire REMOTE PART LP, it's awelicious.

Sunday Random 10
Tobacco Road- The Nashville Teens
Despite the name, a British Invasion band. Band name derived from the Everly Brothers, Nashville Blues.
Like the Everly Brothers (who grew up very near here), had two lead vocalists.
American Patrol- Glenn Miller
Mom and Dad had these old 45 rpm records in a cabinet- I asked what they were..."Glenn Miller."
So the music from their college years became a part of my life, too.
The Week of Living Dangerously- Steve Earle
A song that tells a (somewhat) humorous story of a man who gets tired of the blue-collar grind and decides
to cut loose.
"How you got across that river alive, I don't know-
But your wife just made your bail
And now you're really dead for sure."
Ol' 55- Tom Waits
Apparently recorded by the Eagles- though I don't recall it.... A younger, more innocent Tom-
many, many cigarettes and bottles of bargain Scotch earlier.
Linger- The Cranberries
Yes, I admit I'm a sucker for SOME romantic pop songs, esp. those with an Irish accent.
Poor House- The Traveling Wilburys
Fun music, again showcasing the talents of each individual.
Backstreets- Bruce Springsteen
Yeah, I know, seems like he couldn't possibly work "hidin' on the backstreets" into the vocal
as many times as he did.... And yet it is an iconic '70's rock ballad- "One soft infested
summer...."
Photograph- Ringo Starr
For years, I had no idea who it was who performed this song, but I always listened when it came
on the radio. And then I forget about it again for another (mumble-mumble) years. Tuneful,
melancholy, and nostalgic. Yes, I do remember the '60s- why do you ask?
Christmas Card (from a Hooker in Minneapolis)- Tom Waits
Basically, you kind of have to be there- hearing Tom's whiskey bass sing-
"Charlie, I'm pregnant..." A wonderful song, filled with images and characters- bonus lyric-
"...buy me a used car lot, but l wouldn't sell any of 'em...
Just drive a different car every day, dependin' on how I feel."
Do You Wanna Dance- Dave Edmunds
This Welshman has tremendous talent and a chameleon-like abilty to shift between rockabilly, R&B,
and straight rock. In some ways, his cover tunes are better than the originals.

I just bought Phil Och's
Tape from California, so I've been listening to that this evening. Good old Vietnam-era folk radicalism.
I've also been listening to The Black Keys'
Thickfreakness. I'm big into music with a heavy blues edge to it, and The Black Keys deliver. It starts fast and heavy and lively and then becomes something almost meditative.
Here's the title track.
And here's maybe the liveliest track.

Yep- it's random, all right. But I enjoy lots of different styles, from Big Band to rockabilly, blues to (some) punk, bluegrass, etc. The only things I have trouble with are country (with a few exceptions), rap, and the bimbo (male or female) pop-tart "flavor of the day" offerings.

"Coma" by Guns N' Roses. This song is pure genius. It starts out with a pulse (like a heartbeat) and that theme pretty much stays throughout the entire song. The main riff is also centered around the pulse, giving it a real 'coma'-ish feel. I think I read somewhere that Slash thought of the riff while in a 3-day coma. Anyway, the song is a true epic, fit to sit alongside songs like Metallica's "One".
I will admit that a lot of Guns N' Roses is garbage, but they do have a lot of great work as well. (Most of it being on Use Your Illusion I)

I have listened to NIN's "Year Zero" album and I can't say I'm impressed. Just my 2 cents, mind you.

'Five Magics' by Megadeth, off of their (greatest) album Rust in Peace. The lyrics describe a man who masters (yep! you guessed it!) five magics in order to overthrow a dictator (who has already mastered said magics) only to find that the power corrupted him as well. It's just an overall cool song. Great lyrics, original sound...

I'm listening to Svartsot, a folk metal band from Denmark, really catchy stuff and they don't overdue the cheesiness like other bands of their ilk. That's probably because they bring a bit more death metal to their sound than black metal. It's basically like listening to Amon Amarth but with some cool folkish flutes/pipes/woodwinds playing in the background.
Good drinking music anyways!

Hmm. "Energetic" and "dystopian" are pretty much opposites. Dystopian anything is supposed to be gloomy and depressing, so why in the world are you expecting it to be "energetic?" That contradicts the whole purpose of "I'll FORCE you to look at the way the United States will be in the future, and o my brother it ain't good."
Perfect album to listen to when I finally get to writing my book. I guess after reading so many dystopian novels in my English course, and reading
A Clockwork Orange, I'm in the mood for something dystopian. It's just been my whole mindset since the beginning of the school. Don't just call me a pessimist, try and read between the lines.
Year Zero also had an awesome... whatdya call em. An alternate reality game. Those are pretty cool, if incredibly intricate and involved.
