Hullo, people!

The doors are open again, and the first rounds are on the house.

The door sign says:
QUOTE(minque @ Apr 30 2005, 01:22 AM)
This is meant to be a place where you can talk about anything without having to stay on topic. Feel free to ask questions, to talk about the things in your life you like to share with your fellow-members. Or just step inside for a while, have a coffe and a good chat!
You may feel free to post whatever you like as long as it is within the rules of the forum.
But if the conversation degrades to spam, you will be treated as though you are spamming anywhere else on the forum. This is a thread where you can relax and talk about personal things, but it is not to be used as an excuse to make pointless posts.
Please help to keep this alive and well and a place where we can meet and share.
Enjoy your stay here!!! wink.gif  biggrin.gif

Before digging into the cookie-barrels, though... Behold - and behold ye well - the slightly more elaborate rules addendum.
QUOTE(Alexander @ May 29 2005, 11:47 AM)
We had intended the coffee shop to be a nice place where people could talk about their daily activities and such, kinda like the Lurkers Lair on the Official Forums.
It didn't quite turn out that way though, people have been taking advantage of their freedoms in here, there has been a lot of spamming and even some flaming. We will not tolerate that any longer.
So unfortunately we've had to decide to increase the rules for this thread. Of course the normal forum rules still apply, but we'll elaborate here.:
1. No spamming.
We consider double posting and posting posts with only a few words to be spam. If you do that your post will be deleter or moved, do it too often and you might receive a warning for it.
We also consider chit-chat spam. This forum has a special chat channel for chatting, you're welcome to go there, and chat with other members or with the staff as we're always there, doing it in here is not allowed.
The address to that chatroom is:
W4O chat
And for assistence to use a chat like this, I recommend looking over this thread:
http://forums.waiting4oblivion.com/viewtopic.php?t=248
Or contacting one of the Administrators.
2. No discussion of accounts or warnings.
There shall be no more discussion about members, about accounts, about how many warnings you've gotten or anything like that.
3. No trolling.
No posting of random nonsense, no posting of irrelevant things, no posting the same thing over and over just to get it noticed, no swearing or flaming.
4. No religion or politics.
No discussion about religion or politics is to be had in these threads. If you want to discuss religion or politics, please do make another thread, or if another such thread already exists, please post in it.
If you have a question about the rules of the forums, feel free to ask it to either a Global Moderator or an Administrator.
If you're unsure if something is fit to post here, it might be. Again best to ask a Global Moderator or Administrator.
If you're wondering how we think a Lair or the Coffee Shop should look like, what we do allow, then I recommend taking a look at the Lurkers Lair at the Official Forums.

have to goto school again tomorrow. Probably like most people have to goto work or w/e. But I'm realy looking forward to it. We've got these so called "chaotic urban" week/2 days actually [lol]. It's like something different than the regulair classes, we got to do workshops.

But we had to sign in for the workshops last tuesday when I was @ the zoo, painting animals. So when I got back there were only a few left :/. So I signed in for a Illustration workshop and Large Scale painting or w/e. We are going to make a large painting with other students. So I'm kind of looking forward to it, I think it's going to be pretty cool. ^^
minque
Ha! That sounds really funny Geo! Imagine painting on a wall.....I´d really like that..hmmm

Heeey that's sounds cool Geo wink.gif

School for me tomorrow too... Yeah that's right, our last study day before the final exam blink.gif We've already gotten the textsheets which is about a certain theme we are going to write about the first day. I've read through most of it, it's mainly about justice - discrimination, violations against humanity and a lot like that... Very interesting theme, at least a theme where I can manage to write a lot of pages and have many thoughts about.

We've gotten one sheet of paper with this school stamb where we can write down stuff for the exam. Glad it was a clean sheet without any lines or anything since we can put it in the printer, can write on both sides at the font size of 9 or something smile.gif

But I really hope it will go good, then on Wednesday I'm going to have to write 'new-norwegian' - I think it will go pretty good there too, I have a small amount of dyslexia and should I actually skipped that subject, but can't kvright.gif But but.. It usually goes nice, I don't have a bad grade and I can sit from 9:00 till 16:45 so I guess I will have a lot of time to look over everything and study each word to check everything is right tongue.gif

Well well, I'm gonna keep studying now - Whilst listning to the old CD from Amulet 'Freedom Fighters' with some really fast and hardcore rock biggrin.gif
Geonox
I always hated writing for school, we had to do an essay about sperm donations?¿! for our exams laugh.gif So I was like wtf?! I don't know who came up with that topic tongue.gif but it went ok. So good luck with your exams next tuesday ^^ I hope you get a nice grade for it biggrin.gif

Haha, good luck with that buddie ! Every now & then someone who is stutying something has to do some irrationall and un-related bull***t task, just because... well, just because. You're an artist and you have idiotic essays ahead. Back in the day, I had to stydy biology and sociology on electrotech blink.gif and even philosophy... man, I hated Nietche then and I hate his guts even now. But Immanuel kant, now there's a decent looking man !
Anyway, 2 things I have to report:

1. My new shoes ! They are a modification of an old near-to-undestructible black Reebok model, but all silvery looking... I'm almost afraid to wear them because the reflection from sun might cause drivers to become partially blinded and that can lead to a series of accidents ohmy.gif

2. Tommorow I have to go and check in at my old school ! Yay, I have to go back to school because our BS educational system must now come to termes with European standards - Bolognese declaration & all that jazz... kvright.gif so, see ya kids in school, I guess...

hehe yeah I know ^^ I hate doing stuff which are useless. Like math, we had to do this thing like you got a cube with several points in it. And you had to connect those with lines to get a cross section or w/e. And we were like...why? When we asked the teatcher he said; "well...you'll need it once you are older but why I don't realy know" blink.gif

Btw cool shoes I just bought myself some new shoes 2. clicky I want to get another pair but I'm not sure if I should buy em. Because they are kind of, special. Like it has a special print on it and I'm not sure if I got somethiing which matches with the shoes tongue.gif. Since theya re 80 bugs I'm not going to waste my money on some shoes which I'm probably never going to wear.

ok cool! did a google search cos the link seems to be broken or w/e. I realy like asics/onitsuka tiger but they are quite the opposide. I had to buy myself a new sole cos there basicly is none in the normal asics shoes. kvleft.gif I always manage to buy the wrong shoes which are either to small or crappy to walk on biggrin.gif but as long as they look cool. My new vans are nice to walk on tho...it's a miracle! laugh.gif
Ibis
Talking of shoes, ever since my suede lavender sneakers fell apart, all my shoes are black. I can't seem to get out of the mood for anything else. I have black leather clogs, black bedroom slippers, black loafers, black suede sneakers and a really excellent pair of steel-toed black leather sneakers that look like tactical boots.

My problem is that even when we are out shopping, my tastes still seem to always run to black, but different new styles (black does go with everything after all) - but when I point them out to Cain and want to try them on, he'll say "Why bother? You already have black shoes." Which I can't argue with. Grrrrrr

Ahhh ... I forgot my red velvet & sequined Chinese slippers that I never wear but am saving because they were a present from my boss, when I worked at a Chinese Restaurant and she went up to Chinatown in NYC to buy new restaurant decor.

Edit* Why are we talking about shoes? I hope this has been on topic ... oh right, it's the coffee shop. Well well ... Minque, do you serve a good cappucino here?
DoomedOne
I've had a strange habit of rotating between white and black shoes, but my two pairs were black, so now I'm all befuddled. Nice shoes, though.
Ibis
I used to do that with work shoes when I worked in a restaurant Doom, first black, then white ... but they all were very nice glorified sneakers really = Reeboks, Nikes, etc. smile.gif
DoomedOne
Brand doesn't mean high quality, it just means it was made by someone with small fingers. All my shoes have been fair trade for the past year (My last pair, basically, what a self-rightious hypocrite I am!)
Ibis
Well, I cut my foot very badly on a torn up, sharp metal pipe that was lying in our neighbors yard (running for the beer store before closing time actually - lol) and I got home, no beer, my foot wouldn't stop bleeding, Cain was already passed out from too much beer ... so I had no choice but to soak it in cold water until the bleeding stopped and then pour hydrogen peroxide all over it and put a clean sock on - we had no bandages. But I used my Nike sneaker like a bandage, tying it just tight enough.

And I went to work that way, restaurant work - on my feet all day - and kept pouring the peroxide on it and wearing clean socks and my Nike tied just so. And it eventually healed so well that I don't even have a scar now - but the cut was so deep at the time that any deeper, I could have lost my middle toe.

So, I know Nike makes a good shoe - although if it's made with prison labor in China or something I'm sorry to hear that. But I even sent a thank you letter to Nike and they sent me a coupon for buying another pair of shoes later.
Olav
Argh that sounds extremely painful, Ibis! ohmy.gif But at least I think it was very decent of Nike to give you a coupon for new shoes. smile.gif
Ibis
Yeh it was! I really didn't expect it. And we used to wear shoes out so fast at that particular restaurant because the floors were no-slip tile. Which is very rough, good for the prevention of accidents even when the floor is wet, but very tough on the soles of your shoes. kvright.gif
stargelman
I pretty much wear only one pair of boots, no matter what the weather or season. It's the kind of boots you'd wear for hiking I think. Trekking shoes. They're extremely comfy and I can walk forever and a mile in them, which I regularily do and enjoy. This, although not being the exact shoes I'm wearing right now, is in general what I buy. I admit I care less about what they look like than for the fact that they're practical and comfy.

Huraah for Doomed! I try to buy fair trade as much as possible but I don't buy much clothes myself (I'm cheap) so all the clothes I have are gifts and I don't want to offend whoever bought me it by rejecting them, I would exchange them but they are almost always at stores which don't offer fair trade.

I don't know the real stats but I think fair trade cloths make up something like 0.2% of the clothes market, its just sad.

Wow, those are some preety tough shoes. But don't they look like too much for summertime ? I mean, I don't know about germany's temperatures, but here your feet would get cooked in no time if you walked a few hours in those babies kvleft.gif
Anyway, I've always prefered slick, street-stylish shoes that aren't too flashy or compicated (read: no high teck in them tongue.gif). The best choice for me was always Nike, Adidas, Puma or Reebok street football footwear - here is the perfect example of my philosphy - low cost, simplicity of design, no flashy colors and all-round toughness of the shue itself make this kind of footwear my 1st choice.
Ibis
No flashy colors? But it was you, Milanius, who started the whole shoe conversation with your silver sneakers. You don't consider silver sneakers to be a mite flashy? I'd certainly take notice of a guy walking down the street in silver sneakers! blink.gif
treydog
Since it is shoes, I will cast my mind far back into the mists of time, when I wore Chuck Taylor high-tops- white, of course. I wore them so long that they weren't white anymore. And the fabric wore out to the point that basically all they were was (tied-together) laces and the soles.

Now, I wear Merrells.
Geonox
tongue.gif the workshops were kind of boring today. We had to do a lot with our own personality. Like we had to make this emoticon about yourself orso, but those are the moments when you figure out how bad you know yourself. It's wasn't that cool :/. The second workshops were about Illustration. I got this article of 2 sentences about the increasing traffic in 2006 x-x. It was pretty boring. :/ I hope that my workshops tomorrow will be a lot cooler.
Tellie
To stay on topic, I think thosee shoes looked rather comfortable starge...but I dont think I'll go and buy some of those...just not my stile.

I normally use traineers, as I think it is comfortable to walk in them....but that do not prevent me from using some other shoes from time to time....boots are something else I use...ah, brown leather boots from the us...lovely tongue.gif
Wolfie
I wear shoes that are kinda half boot half trainer, and they are soooo comfortable. I'm gonna be wearing the things til they fall apart from use, like my last pair did biggrin.gif

Uh, you misunderstood me kvright.gif Sure, they are too sexy for my feet, I guess biggrin.gif but if you look at them you won't find anything unneccessary - no air pockets, no fancy lace mechanisms, no hi-tech gadgets to improve the bounce... just a simple, clear design and no more than 2 colors (well, 3 actually, if you count the bottom... uhhh... what's the english word for "djon" ?! wacko.gif )

BUT YOU DIDN"T GET THE BEER! Thats a sad story indifferent.gif

Anyways, on the topic of shoes... I have.. let me count.. Nearly 13 pairs of shoes I've obtained in the last 2 years.

Damn Puma to hell! I like to think that I'm helping some poor farmer make a little bit of extra money by working in a sweat shop. Hows that for logic?
Kayla
As far as shoes go, I wear Converse. biggrin.gif Feels like you're barefoot, they're so light. And they're pretty durable as well. I've had the same pair of shoes for almost three years now.

I'm in my last full week of school until summer break. Man, am I happy for that. I took an 80 question final exam for Spanish today, and I'm going to be taking a "speaking" part of the test tomorrow.

I will most likely be exempt from the rest of my tests... except for my Geometry one, which I must take because numbers are scary to me... and I don't do well with them. Meh... but, no worries.

My boyfriend graduated a few weeks ago. I cried at graduation. sad.gif But, we're both doing very well. We're quite content with each other... though, sometimes I do miss him not being around so much. His job right now is stressing him out. He works part-time but, his manager seems to think otherwise. He worked 34 hours last week, and it doesn't seem like he's going to have it any easier this week. But, I try to be supportive. When he came over to my house yesterday, I gave him a massage and we watched some movies together and just had a great time. biggrin.gif Whenever he comes over to my house, I always tell him he doesn't have to lift a finger. I give him a chance to relax and be lazy if he wants. tongue.gif

Ibis
Oh Mazelure, I think your cute ... like big teddy bear snuggly kinda cute. But your Avvy being green and having the tooth thing going on ... well, he's just pushing it. tongue.gif

As soon as you said Converse Kayla, I realized that my steel toed black leather sneakers are by Converse and yes, they are very extremely confortable and light even with having the steel toes.
I do joke with people that I am Air Force trained in the use of blunt weapons, them being the best choice of defense since you cannot be really accused of premeditation. And they'll say, well what blunt weapon are you carrying and I jab my toe up menacingly and say "Steel toes, baby!"
I think guys especially get the joke of where they'd be applied if needs be. lolol

I sympathize with people whose shoes have fallen apart because my most beloved pair of shoes were my lavender sneakers and I wore them until they split apart.

The funniest shoe damage thing I've ever seen was my friend Tina, who bought a pair of red canvas Spanish espadrilles that had a woven fiber lifted heel and wrapped around her ankle to tie.
She was quite proud of them, until once we got caught at a bus stop in the rain ... and her espadrilles ... disintegrated ... right before our eyes. First the red canvas came unglued from the woven soles, and then the red color ran all over her feet and then the woven fiber of the shoe just sorta turned to mush uder her feet.
It was hilarious to see the look of alarm on her face! To make her feel better during the shoeless bus ride home - we all kept singing "The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plane." laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Wow, Channler ... now that you pointed out the true tragedy of my cut foot accident, I probably could have next day hobbled over to the beer store with the sad tale and who knows - possibly - have gotten coupons for free beer?? Wow, that'd be the ticket for a good recovery. biggrin.gif

How the hell can they actually make up 100 questions on US history? That's a question every 2.3 years!

I mean granted, you have some interesting little blips in your history, but otherwise it's pretty dry, even if you ignore the wars that most people in the US seem to be completely oblivious of. Plus a lot of it is incredibly pointless seeing as the great documents are a touch flexible. For that I would point out the Falklands Conflict. Kind of screws the Munroe Doctrine, don't it? Even Teddy's little addition.

About the most interesting part (other than World War 2, which I find fascinating - I recently read Ewen Montagu's biography of the Twenty Commitee) is the Civil War. Currently, I'm playing Take Command: 2nd Manassas. And yes, before anyone says anything, I know I should be revising...blurgh.

@Olav: This isn't the P-forum so...

@Foster: The UK seems to have very little history other then the why they suck at handling Ireland... But I know they go a hell of a lot deeper then that because I consider myself fairly learned.

Well, it's true.
Try my country history. Old Slovenians, Nemanjić Dynasty (big dynasty, you have to know every one of them) , Karadjordjević dynasty, Obrenović dynasty, the whole slavery under Turks, Serbia in 1st world war, Serbia in second world war, Former Yugoslavia, and nowdays, the history even encludes the war in 1999.

@Foster: The UK seems to have very little history other then the why they suck at handling Ireland... But I know they go a hell of a lot deeper then that because I consider myself fairly learned.

Open a book, I see you can read. Grant it our general schooling is quite liberally based but its not all wrong.

US schooling may not be wrong in most cases (I reserve that due to the fact that evolution can only be taught as a theory in some states, and even then with a whopping disclaimer on it), but I think that US history is, comparatively, a very small subject. Even if you feeling like you really need to stretch it to the 7 years war, you're still looking at just over 250 years. Now, whilst I'm sure you might think that a lot of stuff can happen it that period, I think that anyone who is even remotely learned will acknowledge that US History is a) not as complex as the various dynastic struggles of other countries (for example the War of the Roses), cool.gif not as long as the history of most other countries (UK history is taught starting in the Iron Age, and goes right up to the end of the second world war - even then, it skips humungous chunks because there is little way of explaining the precise intricacies of the Hundred Years War to kiddies), and c) for a large proportion very isolationist.

Now, as it happens, I do on occasion open books. This is how a Pharmacy student is able to point out the flaws of US foriegn policy dictated in the early 19th century, how I know what the Hunley was, and how I can quote Robert E Lee's conversations to James Longstreet (and know who both of them were).

In the short space of time that the US has existed, the UK, France, the area of land that is now Germany, even Turkey have had a more interesting history. So my point is that if you remove the civil war and the second world war (I'll even leave in 1918-1930, or 'how the US screwed up the world through good intentions and rubbish finances'), you're going to be struggling for questions without delving into popular culture.

And I'm sure this is now getting towards the loose definitions of what this particular thread isn't, so I'm going to stop going on about it.
