hey I often wonder what's other people favorite race in Oblivion or in any elder scrolls game. If everyone would be kiind enough to tell me their favorite race and their resons why I would appreciate it greatly.
By the way my old favorite race was the Nords but now I'm going for the bretons cause they have a whole bunch of magika from the begining of the game untill the end

Dunmer.
They look cool.

And fire resistance of 75% and the summon-power Ancestor Guardian is fun/useful.

I'm a big fan of the dunmer, too. Their bonuses are easily the most useful and they look the best spiffed out as a vampire, though that's like saying who looks better after being beaten by an ugly stick so let me rephrase, they would look best as a vampire if the changes only effected the eyes and didn't turn you into an old fart.

I played Breton in Morrowind and my first time in Oblivion, but now I've just started a new game as a High Elf. They also look quite good - kind of like Vulcans

- and they have lots of Magicka.
Can't really tell what my favorite is as I've only played these, but I also like the general looks of the Dunmer.

This is a hard question. I've said in several threads already that I start all the Elder Scroll games since Arena with Khajiits because of their ability to see in the dark of the starting dungeons.
But I am past that phase now .... Bretons used to be my favorites in Morrowind and also Nords. Bretons as magicka based and Nords as warrior classes.
But now for Oblivion, I'm branching out alittle. I have an Imperial lady warrior who is quite beautiful for heavy armor and the warring lifestyle.
I think I am going to see how I can play around with the face/gen for an Altmer ... them I like for magicka like the Bretons. However, Altmers in Arena and Daggerfall didn't have these weaknesses to elemental damage - that started in Morrowind. I don't really like it but I suppose that maybe they became viewed as being too powerful or unbalancing to the previous games by Bethesda.
I also like the fact that Bosmers can command creatures and animals to fight with or for them. But honestly, I have never played a Bosmer yet in any of the ES games.
Now my hubby made a new class called Brawler who only does hand2hand fighting while wearing heavy armor - it's pretty cool - so I actually managed to make a somewhat attractive Orc maiden to be my Brawler.
So in order of my favorite preference for Oblivion, I wuold say:
1.) Imperial
2.) Breton
3.) Altmer
4.) Bosmer
5.) Nord
5.) Orc
6.) Khajiit
7.) Argonian
Any others I guess I haven't really gotten familiar with at all. Funny that Morrowind was populated with Dunmer but I just never played any. Also never played a Redguard but I do hear that they are good with weapons.

1. Altmer because they are super powerful mages and reclusive wankers like me
2. Bosmer, I always liked druids and rangers because I like nature and magic or archery. Bosmer are abit too jolly for me but because they are wood elves they still make 2.
3. Khajiit "Sweet moon sugar"
4. Nord
Rest are around about equal, there is no race I wouldn't consider playing except bretons.

Dunmer easily. I think the only reason for this is because I seem to find Dark Elf women in games very attractive. Plus they just look cool. I never liked the Nords because they cant seem to stick to their own land, always trying to nick other peoples. And the Orcs.
I used to like them in Morrowind, they seemed more honorable and likeable. In this one they are rude brutes, and think they are something special because of their strength as warriors. So the pig folk are one of the new editions to my hate list.
And I hate imperials too, but thats not new. They are nothing but arrogant con men who seem to think they are something special. Infact two imperials inparticular are the people I hate the most in TES. Tiber Septim, its annoying that this theif managed to enslave all the other races, but that the imperials should view him as a god is beyond beleif.
And Alessia Ottus, after reading her books on "the guides to the folks who worship the nine and the heretics that dont in each town" I traveled to the imperial city just to kill her. Although Im purposefully overreacting on these parts, I enjoy it how I have races I dislike in TES.

Favorite race: the Daedra. Their lore and history has always intrigued me.
Favorite playable race: Used to be Nord, but now I'm leaning towards the Khajiiti. No reason really, they just seem to have a certain variety even within their own kin. (read: subtypes)

My favorite Race in real life are New Zealanders who live secretly under girls beds. It is a well-known stalker skill in NZ (well, not to the girl's father.) But I have heard of it from the best of authorities and one of the mad stalkers himself.
They use ornate chamberpots for the amenities and send lovenotes up to be placed under the damsel's pillows. If she favors her stalker, she sneaks food to him from the kitchen at night. And other things. You know what I mean.
If she does not favor him, she doesn't feed him and he cannot leave via the door without her father seeing - so, oh well. It is a chance mad New Zealander stalkers take for love.

I actually prefer Redguard and start all my games first as a redguard. Then, I branch out. I actually prefer both Reds and Orcs to Nords for pure fighters. I like Bretons for magic-usurs. Imperials can be fun - especially for role-play. The beast races are better now that they don't have the armor restrictions. I like elves but don't find their attributes useful, and I think the Bosmer are easily the worst race. They stink, their skills are worthless, and the they're the ugliest of the elven races.

Furious_George, you start all your games as a Redguard the way that I have started all my games since Arena with a khajiit.
What do you mean by ... Imperials are fun, especially for role play? That sounds fascinating.
And DarkHunter likes Redguard second, since they are serious fighters. I must look into this. I never played a Redguard in Morrowind or Oblivion .. but I really loved playing Daggerfall, which took place in Hammerfell, Province of Redguards. Very nice people overall and they keep great inns. Much nicer inns than in Arena, I think.

I *knew* you liked the role play aspect, Ibis!
Redguards are stolid, solid fighters, they're uncomplicated and a good way to familiarize yourself with a game. Plus, my redguards usually have a modicum of social skills and can get along with most folks, even if they can't trick them out of their pocketbooks...
Imperials are cunning and (in my mind) sneaky socialites. They can become any type of character you want, and are generally out for personal gain and political fame. Dress 'em up any way you want, and go become the leader of Cyrodiil, either through (mostly) main force, or through your wiles or magical trickery... Imps can do almost anything, if not better than anyone, they can usually get others to join them in their quest to become the wealthiest, most powerful sons of guns in all the land!

I've liked Bretons a lot since Morrowind and, more recently in Oblivion, Khajiit characters. My Khajiit assassin-type character is easily my favourite at the moment, although my Breton demi-god-mage comes in a close second.
I never really liked elves much. Altmer aren't too bad and I can cope with Dunmer but I really, really, really hate Bosmer. It's probably because I had a misunderstanding with my Bosmer character on Morrowind; he seemed to enjoy being smashed to pieces by everything that came his way, I wanted to stay alive. We don't talk much anymore.

Imperial !
Why? Well... they are, if you've noticed, the "weakest" race of all... They don't have any good power or something. But my Knight has like blade skill 102! I think that beats any Ancestral Ghost, or Beast tongue, or Adrenaline rush.
I really love Blade, Block and Heavy Armor.

Anyone can get a 100+ blade skill, so Imp is certainly not anything special there. You'll certainly get 100 faster as any race with a blade bonus and select it as a major skill.
Adrenaline rush has less utility in the late game, although it's still good then. It's in the early game that it is a HUGE advantage.
I like Imps though. They look like me, which gives them a natural boost on teh beauty scale!

Ahahah... the beauty scale. Yes indeed, Furious_George, if your Avvy is any example.
Imperials do make you feel human and that is the beauty of them. And a very self-sufficient, striving for the best type of human. That's how my Imperial lass makes me feel. I've decided that she will be my main character that I will go all the way through Oblivion with.
Bretons are human of course but with magical skills, which most of us in real life don't have. Nords are very cool, very berzerker if you make them right, but again not many people in real life get to walk around getting their way by overpowering shows of strength and rage. Diplomacy and compromise are more the tools of the day in our age and there again you have it - The Imperial.

REDGUARD FTW! They are pwnage and the closest thing to an 'achilles race'... I don't think they need to be all fighting though... my guy focused on magic early on, tough as it was, he can now out match necromancers etc, v v good assasin... and that is without even using their best aspect... if magic and stealth fails to kill, you just pull out a sword and shield and mow everything down

I think the Dark Elves are the most impressive because of their versatility. At least in the aggresive aspect. They're excellent with destructive magic, and swords. The perfect Battlemage if ya ask me. If they get caught in certain situations that disaude the use of one aspect, lets just say physical damage, then they'll just blast them with a spell. Vice-versa applies for magical resistance.

I don't know why, but I'm so pro-humanity. Why? If you think about us in a general sense and the stuff we've gotten into in real history and Tamriel's history, you've got to have a part of you that thinks we're awesome.
My first character was an Imperial Knight. A good warrior and nobleman of sorts. But then he didn't have much magika and I was like "noooooooo!" He was on level 23 last time I played him and ranked top on all the guilds, brotherhoods, ect. (and Champ of Cyrodill, of course)
So I moved on to what I wanted to be an even more nobler and renown character (with more magika). A Breton Crusader this time around. That worked out pretty well until sometime around or after I did Mehrunes' Razor with him and got his first 4 infamy points. Ah well, he got his first murder because of the Grey Prince a while earlier, boo. I played as him earlier today and his at level 29 right now, with his strength up at max and his intelligence and willpower above the 90s.
I might try another Imperial next, but I'm not sure. Since my Breton is has already been tainted by the forces of evil I guess he can begin doing everything else.

Oh and hunter14, concerning your humorous post up above about monkeys ... I once made a new npc race that was a cappucine monkey. Just one of him - wearing a little red vest and he had glasses from the goggle mod. I combined some body parts from the Moogles for Morrowind mod with Khajiit parts and human ears and one of the rope textures for a tail. All colored like a cappucine monkey. I hope that I still have him on disk somewhere. If I find him, I'll show you a picture of him. He was very cute = Jess was his name after the leader of ElderScrolls.com

Uhh... Khajiits? My favorite race would be the Khajiit, however, BECAUSE THEY'RE CATS. However, I play as Imperials because they don't sound stupid, and they don't have tails, so I can wear stuff that takes up the tail slot without not having a tail.
