I figured out Countdown to Extinction

Ok, mildly off-topic, but I'm too lazy to start a new thread and if someone complains I can just delete their post devilsmile.gif

What kind of guitar are you guys playing? Is there a specific brand you prefer, or maybe a specific model? What does an electric guitar just have to have in terms of things like pickups? Or does none of that really matter unless you intend to record a CD for mainstream distribution?

As you can tell, I am entirely clueless on the subject.

No way you guys (and girls) don't play any In Flames, As Blood Runs Black, Slayer, that kind of thing. I know you might say that that stuff is easy, but I've been working on a song that is very challenging. It is "Funeral Thirst" by "The Black Dahlia Murder" and I have everything but the solo, here's a link to the video!

These things do matter, even if you aren't going to record a CD, as different factors can completely change the sound of your playing.

I suggest going to a pretty big music store and trying out different guitars, and find the ones you think feel and sound good.

I am a fan of humbuckers (type of pickup) because they sound a lot heavier and darker than the single-coils (another type of pickup) A good setup is having a single-coil neck pickup and a humbucker rear one for more versatility. Single coils are what you would find on a Fender Strat, humbuckers will be on a Gibson SG.

SIngle-Coil

There is also a type of pickup called a P90, but for the most part, they are outdated. I think Gibson may still use them occasionally.

As far as the giutars themselves go, I'm a fan of smaller scaled, 24 fret guitars (thought I'll settle for a 22 as evident in my Gibson SG) and I like a little bit of thickness to the necks (Ibanez necks are tiny, but some people love that)

If you want to know what an expensive guitar looks like, type PRS RED DRAGON into google images, *sniff* i got to play one onetime, for like seven seconds, it wasn't really that different from any other guitar...

I bought a ESP Viper-50 now \o/

I'm just beginning so all I can do right now is play two chords. But soon I'll be able to post something on-topic here! laugh.gif
DungeonHunter
theory theory theory.

ive been finding myself drifting to my bass more though
Priest of Sithis
don't leave the wonderful world of guitar....

besides, bass is for lazy people
Dantrag
The world needs more bass players.
The Metal Mallet
Tell that to Justin Chancellor. That guy lays some mean basswork for Tool. It's ridiculous in my opinion.

I'm a fan of neat basswork. Most of my favourite bands have audible bass for the most part.
DungeonHunter
oh lord dont even try to diss bass lol

Working on two songs off the new Megadeth album. "Washington is Next" and "Never Walk Alone...A Call to Arms"

And I plan on learning "Go Into the Water" by the (fictional cartoon) band Dethklok. Such an epic song.
Shinnok
Gears of War off the new Megadeth album is really easy
Dantrag
that's actually the only song on that album I really don't like...

ShogunSniper
after playing extended blues scales for so long, im trying my hand at some spanish scales., and practicing playing in pure minor.

i've been playing ace combat zero, and the music has a spanish guitar theme mixed with epic orchestral stuff.. that's my inspiration. biggrin.gif

Well, a friend and I made up some cool stuff today, and I just finished writing a bunch of it down via Guitar Pro (excellent composing program--pen and paper sucks!--) Two guitar tracks and a bass track all done smile.gif

It's metalicious.
Priest of Sithis
I gotta say, Go Into the Water is a fun song to play, and DETHKLOK RULES!!! lol

Swisgar Swigelf and Toki Wartooth, amazing Axe players... ha.

I found this program that takes music from Mp3's and tries to copy it down note for note, it's called Fruity Loops. If you dont like that, use Finale 2007.

Let There Be Rock.

Sorry about the double post, but there is something about what Dantrag said and how Go Into the Water is such an epic song....

That is my life, I love those songs that fill you with hope for the next day, Killswitch and Dark Tranquility, just the songs you can feel in your bones, that move you down to your core. The real essence of music. Ahhh...Epic.

Hey guys/gals & guitar maestro's, I'm gonna send over a friend of mine from the Elder Vaults who had an acoustic bass and wants to purchase an electric starter bass & needs advice from pros ... this is the best place I can think to send him to for good interaction.

His name is Roopauk, please treat him well .. thanx.

Saw that this thread has started to die out a little bit so I figured why not revive it? It's been roughly six years since I started playing guitar and now I've purchased yet another one.

Karl Logan Heretic Model

As you can see I've been stupid enough to spend almost five and a half thousand dollars on a guitar that is the closest thing you can come to heaven in my opinion. The sound coupled with my Marshall 6100LM 100-Watt amplifyer makes for an awesome heavy metal sound that is to die for, but then again you sort of expect that result when you are bying a signature guitar designed by Manowar's Karl Logan.

Lately I've been working on mastering songs from Blind Guardian (Bright Eyes, Imaginations From the Other Side and The Bard's Song) and only have to practice a little bit more on the solo's before I'm all set.

And yes for those of you who might notice my newfound love for Manowar I do know most of the songs from the 'Warriors of the World' album as well as the songs 'Brothers of Metal', 'The Gods Made Heavy Metal' and Battle Hymns.

I rather find an acoustic guitar is rather easier to tackle than it's Spanish or electric counterpart. Tackling is still easier in an acoustic guitar, trust me smile.gif .
Bolzmania
I've learned most part of Leper Messiah by Metallica now. It's one of my favorite songs.
