A question for you, what solo/riff are you trying to hit at the moment?

At the moment I am mastering the slurred middle eight of the four horsemen.

I'm not doin' much on guitar right now. I'm working on some bass stuff though. biggrin.gif
Intestinal Chaos
I'm tackling a bear.

*wonders how he missed this thread*

I'm working on "Incanations of the Apprentice" by Symphony X.

Quite difficult, and extremely fast. I have to kind of skip over some of the sweeping parts.... ohmy.gif
Fuzzy Knight
Still working 'bit on Everlong but have my eyes on a couple of others too... Have plans on Hey, Johnny Park and Deepest Blues are Black - all from Foo Fighters smile.gif

Think I'm going to see what else I can find there... But think those three are a good enough challange for now tongue.gif

I'm currently sharpening my skills with the rest of the band for the New Years Bash. So basically I'm practicing some of our songs.

But for you newbies out there I would suggest you work on your fret movement and basic chords.

For moderate players I'm just going to tell you to start working on songs that spark your interest and keep working on tying your chords together into a more... listener friendly jam.

Advanced players. Now is the time to start using those chords and solos from other songs to build your own short tune. Once done with that its on to learning things that don't spark your interest. For example if you’re a rocker start listening and playing along with country or classical music.

For people who are past the last step your time has come to add all you've learned and put it to use. Learn a few popular songs and go put yourself on the show list at a local coffee shop. Have fun! smile.gif

I didn't know you played ohmy.gif
Intestinal Chaos
Well, the bear tackling went fine. Unfortunatly soon after I tackled 2 hikers and their children. Right now I'm tackling an alligator.
Brood
On and Off, Blackbird...
Dantrag
I just got the hang of 'Green Tinted Sixties Mind' by Mr. Big. I can now play the entire song, ridiculously tappish and hard intro and the solo included.

Hugs to you Danny! Ehhh I just bought an acoustic guitar.....really it´s a present for my hubbie, but maybe I will borrow it....the daughter will anyway.... blink.gif

Into the Storm by Blind Guardian.

It's pretty hard. But I also have the volume on my guitar and the song turned down so I don't wake my parents up. It's hard to hear.

I'm working on the basics biggrin.gif

this thread is biased against bassists.
Dantrag
Do you play bass Doomed, or are you just pointing out injustices?
DoomedOne
I play guitar but I'm converting to bass.

You should do fine. You'll find though it is quite a change from what you usally do.
Fuzzy Knight
I see myself pretty much finished with Everlong, still need to do some last "adjustments" to make it sound good enough smile.gif

Ha! I got it! Except for the solo...

It took me awhile to realize that I had to tune my guitar a half-step lower. And here I was wondering why I couldn't get the Eb.

Listning to Into the Storm now actually, I really doubt I could manage that song on guitar blink.gif

Good work Dantrag biggrin.gif
Dantrag
You could manage it easily, I'm sure. Once you figure out the tuning ( kvleft.gif ) and some of the odd stretches towards the end(Use your damned pinky Dantrag!), it's not so bad, and pretty fun to play.

I've just now picked up a song that I was trying to learn about a year ago, and couldn't do; Strange Deja Vu by Dream Theater. Since it's the only Dream Theater song without ridiculous sweepeing solos throughout, I figured it would be easy; I was wrong.

It's going more easily than it did back then, but the rythms are so weird.
Fuzzy Knight
Hmm... Ok... I think I'm going to move on to Deepest Blues are Black when I've got the best out of Everlong and also starting on Run with the Devil from Hammerfall, at least see how I can handle it smile.gif
Dantrag
I've got most of Strange Deja Vu sounding good, but some of the transitions between the melodies still have me stumped. kvright.gif
Red
Well keep practicing Danny, because putting things off never helped anyone. I'm sure you can get it and when you do, record it and put it up here cause' I want to hear your amazing skills.

Anyways, I'm working on Turncoat by Anti-flag, and luckily I have tabs and videos to help me find it out. I', also planning on learning the Immigrant Song just so I can sit down and play the tune for hours. Man, I could never get tired of that song. smile.gif

I definitely have noticed it's got a completely different feel than what I'm used to, especially when it comes to harmonzing.

What amazing skills?

Anyway, I have Into the Storm recorded, I just don't know where I can host mp3s.

I have been trying to play "Always with me, always with you," by joe satriani

Satriani is one of the greatest. I don't think I've heard that song, though.

EDIT :

I guess this would be the place to post this.

Michael Romeo Guitar Solo

He's the guitarist from Symphony X, one of my favorites. Really freaking good, too.
King Death
Nothing on guitar; however, I am working the bassline to Hysteria by Muse biggrin.gif

If you or any of the other bassists around here want a challenge, I would like to recommend that you try some Primus bass lines. Les Claypool is a monster on the bass.
Dantrag
After getting Into the Storm and Strange Deja Vu down, I have recently learned the acoustic intro to Dream Theater's "Endless Sacrifice", and Rush's "Spirit of Radio" along with Symphony X's "Accolade II".

Now I'm working on Mirror Mirror by Blind Guardian and Of Sins and Shadows by Symphony X.

Both are very challenging, and I suppose that I'll have to come back to them when my skills have advance a little (maybe a lot) more. ohmy.gif
ZoSo787
Playing alot of Zeppelin and ZZ Top
Akatosh
i'm bass but i'm practicing bass souls from cliff burton of metallica
Dantrag
I'm currently working on Rush's Spirit of Radio.

It's not too hard a song, until you have a guitar teacher that tells you to do it in some really freaking weird chord voicings.
Fuzzy Knight
That's nice Danny smile.gif Haven't played so much lately on the guitar, but picked up a few Coldplay and Amulet songs that I'm going to work on...

Hopefully Accolade II soon, have been listning to that song all week winkgrin.gif
Dantrag
I can play about 4 minutes of Accolade II; then it turns to mad soloing. Check Symphony X's website for really accurate tabs. It's a really fun song to play.
Konji
Sounds like a good challenge.
Red
I'm tackling RATM's Killing in th Name of and have been succeding. Alot easier to play than how it looks on paper. Also, I'm trying my hands at Cause=time by Broken Social Scene, but I'm not very far at all.
Fuzzy Knight
Red, have you tried/managed Sleep now in the Fire and Guerilla Radio by RATM? Thinking about trying those two... smile.gif

Yeah, and so far I can play Sleep now in the fire (excluding the solo) and Guerilla Radio in its entirity. Let me give you a tip when you learn Guerilla Radio, these tabs sound the best and are easiest to learn. Though they're obviously not how Tom plays them, they still work perfectly.

Nice, thanks Red cool.gif
Red
No problem Fuzzy smile.gif.

Right now I'm taking a very small break from Killing in the Name of and trying to write a solo. I've gotten it written, but I need to spice it up with with the right combination of clean and gain.

On a unrelated note; Whoah..
Konji
Ugh....Not a fan of that at all. A desecration of a great guitar.

And for something to learn, try 'For the love of God' by Steve Vai. smile.gif

Me with wah.
