I'm just curious, I've seen many profiles in which many of our members/moderators live in foreign countries! If you can speak any other language besides English, be proud and post away! You might even teach us a lesson!

And also, I forget which post had it in but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to say "I like wolves a lot" in a language besides English or Spanish. I love meeting people who can speak multiple languages, it is so cool!
Om
I'm afraid that I can only speak fluently in English, Spanish is my 2nd language of choice, but I'm not gifted with being able to learn lanuages easily so my attempts to learn it haven't been very successful, yet.

I envy all these people who can fluently speak 5 languages.

Can you tell me how to say "I like wolves a lot " or " I love wolves" ? I think I'll collect as many ways as I can in my signature biggrin.gif

Mi primera lengua es el castellano, pero tambien puedo comunicar en ingles. He podido hablar las dos lenguas por la major parte de mi vida. Lo que ypo deseo es aprender el japones. si puedo pensar en las dos lenguas wink.gif.

I most often communicate in english, seeing as how it is the predominant language at home(mom is british, but is also fluent in spanish) and in the U.S.
Kindred Spirit
I speak mainly in english, porque hablo en espanol tambien. I waas raised in America, so I have a much better grasp on english than on Spanish, since I started Spanish in Junior High. (Not counting a two week course in my first year of school, which was just colors and twenty other words, none of which I remember from then) So I am on my third year of Spanish, but I am technically taking Spanish 2. Oh wait, sorry, technically, I'm not taking a course in Spanish, but in LOTE. (LOTE=Language Other Than English, name of foreign language course in my state) In seventh and eighth grade, I took Spanish one, which is how it works. Spanish one is a longer course, since you need to learn the foundation of an entirely new language.

To cut a long story short, I'm going to haunt this forums regulary by now. biggrin.gif

I speak german ( quite well i assume coz its my native language ^^) and rather bad english ( learning it since 7 years at school ). Latin won't count as a language, eh? laugh.gif

I'll keep the short version, appreciated very much though! Heh it is amazing how many languages one European or Asian person can understand.... I only know one.... ( I wonder) because the Spanish courses in middle schoola are not very effective (wink wink)
Bofra
To correct a bit your list Wurlon, I love wolves in spanish is "Me gusta mucho los lobos", I don't know who told you that sentence but it's wrong tongue.gif

French --> J'aime des loups

I also know Swedish fluently and a tiny bit of japanese, (studied it for a year but have forgotten a lot).

so 4 and one 100th of a language it is then smile.gif
Megil Tel-Zeke
Or simply put,

"Amo los lobos"

I'll take your word that los lobos is wolves, but I think that me gusta is not "I love" but "I like." Actually, specifically, me encanto (might be encanta, I forget) would mean I love, me gusta means pleasing to me, or it pleases me, I believe.

So, "Me encanto mucho los lobos" means "I love wolves very much." Saying, "Me gusta mucho los lobos," means "Wolves are very pleasing to me."

Or at least that's what my teachers taught me. If you think you know better, then trust your Spanish more than mine any day, I don't place great faith in the NYS LOTE system.
Bofra
Well, I lived in a spanish-speaking country for 10 years but still I don't trust my spanish 100% tongue.gif there are so many "flavours" to it..

However It's true that "Me gusta" isn't "I love" but "I like". but if you would directly translate "I love wolves" it would be as Megil said "Amo los lobos" but I think personally that "Amo" is a bit too much. Only on the most romantic moments when it finally happened that I would use the word "Amo", or maybe when I exagerate over liking something. So I guess you can choose:

"Me gusta mucho los lobos" --> I like wolves very much
"Amo los lobos" --> I love wolves
or
"Me encanta los lobos" that would be "I really like wolves" or something like that..

Man, spanish is hard tongue.gif
Megil Tel-Zeke
very true, amar is a rather strong word for the expression. I liked the "me encatan los lobos" it's more enthusiastic than gustar, and not as passionate as amar. good work guys goodjob.gif

I second that. I think they teach Mexican Spanish at my school, but I'm not sure. I'd still trust your word over that of my teachers, not only are they being paid for by the evil school board, but we haven't gotten very far in Spanish yet.

Thanks. I guess Spanish class did prove useful for something in the real world. Huh, and I doubted my teacher when she said that. Bad me.

I might be dropping Spanish after this year. Where I live, taking Spanish 2 is required for the Regents Diploma, which is practically the same as the normal diploma, but if you take Spanish 3 (next year for me, if I do take it) you can get the Advanced Regents Diploma, which is better. However, I somehow doubt that taking a foreign language will be required for what I want to take, which is a Computer Programming (specifically video game design) course.

Megil Tel-Zeke
lol short version of a long story. I know what that is like. it is always hard explaining to people I have dual citizenship, venezuelan and british, and that I lived in Venezuela for 7 years, before moving to Panama for another 6, and then moving to the states.
neredyll
Mi piacciono molto i lupi (Italian)

J'aime beaucoup les loups (French)
Wurlon
The diffuculty with languages that span over multiple countries is how you say it, for now I will use amo los lobos, or whatever I pasted down there and ask my teacher. Spanish is wierd like that sad.gif

And also, I'm getting two different french versions, can anyone clarify one?
Jonajosa
English, Mexican and enough of the various types of Arabic to get by.

But now, I can understand why España would be written Espanja, but not how lobo in any way becomes lopo? Does the letter b become a p in finish?
