It's Saturday! And an excellent one at that. Here's this weekend's list of albums:
Alive or Just Breathing? - Killswitch Engage
10,000 Days - Tool
Blood Mountain - Mastodon
The System Has Failed - Megadeth
Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath
Holy Diver - Dio
Master of the Moon - Dio
Constitution of Treason - God Forbid
Monochrome - Helmet
Today's basic theme is Ronnie James Dio Day, as the Black Sabbath album and the two Dio records are sung by him. Good stuff, early eighties had some nice metal/rock.
You should check out Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime II. Ronnie James DIo guests and sings a pretty cool duet with Geoff Tate

Hmm, yea I've heard about that, and since I all ready have the first Operation Mindcrime, I wouldn't feel lost in the plot! Dio is supposed to be Dr.X if I remember correctly.
But yea, I'm holding out buying CDs until Halloween, just because a whole wackload of CDs I want are released before then and on that day. The new Deftones album comes out, the new Isis CD, the new The Haunted CD (though I think I'll have to order that one, or go someplace that isn't a chain music CD store), and there's also the new K-Os CD that just recently came out.
Man, these last two months have been crazy with good CD releases...

Cass Elliot - Make Your Own Kind of MusicI've heard this one first time in a "LOST" episode, where it inspired the feeling of dread

but it's quite cheerful, really:
"...You're gonna be knowing
the loneliest kind of lonely.
It may be rough goin',
just to do your thing's
the hardest thing to do.
But you've gotta make your own kind of music
sing your own special song,
make your own kind of music
even if nobody else sings along..."Damn right.

Saturday's list, today's overall theme is my rap/hip hop collection:
To the 5 Boroughs - Beastie Boys
Blood Music - Dead Celebrity Status
Late Registration - Kanye West
Exit - K-Os
Joyful Rebellion - K-Os
Atlantis: Hyms for Disco - K-Os
Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park
Light of Day, Day of Darkness - Green Carnation
Vol. 1 - Hurt
The last three aren't really rap/hip hop albums since I don't have much rap and hip hop. I am looking forward to listening to the Green Carnation CD though. It's a single song, that's an hour long. Dream Theatre and The Mars Volta eat your heart out!

Every time I hear that song I'm reminded of a beer commercial that used to air some years ago. Two guys lost their car but didn't really mind it at all since they still had their beer left. The lesson of it all was probaby that beer makes you care less about material possessions.

Been listening to an odd mixture of Sparta and Jethro Tull.
Bought Sparta's new album entitled Threes yesterday when it came out, and it's got some great slow songs on there. It's my official late night driving album. (For those that don't know, Sparta is the second half of At the Drive-In - the half that didn't become The Mars Volta)
I have been meaning to buy Aqualung by Jethro Tull for quite some time, and have loved the album ever since my dad introduced me to them, just never got around to buying it until recently.
Both recommended albums. Go listen. Now.

Aqualung is a classic...I listened a lot to it back when I was at University! Gee......imagine young ones still like it! But it´s great I must admit that!
Currently I´m looking for my Enigma-cd but that hubby of mine put it in the car-cd-player.....and drove off...grrrrr

The current song that is playing is "I Don't Believe in Love" by Queensryche. That's because this is my Saturday Work listening:
Operation Mindcrime - Queensryche
Operation Mindcrime II - Queensryche
Light of Day, Day of Darkness - Green Carnation
The Acoustic Verses - Green Carnation
The Quiet Offspring - Green Carnation
Atlantis: Hyms for Disco - K-Os
The Crusade - Trivium
Mutter - Rammstein
Under Dantrag's suggestion I got Mindcrime II. It's fairly different than the first one, but it certainly isn't terrible. Though it is strange to release a sequel 18 years after the first one. I still enjoy it, just not on the level of the first one, the vocals and musicianship are just a bit more exciting and better. Still, I glad for the recommendationi.
I would just like to also note that each of those Green Carnation CDs sound completely different from each other. The first one is a single song, that's an hour long of doom metal with heavy progressive influences. The Acoustic Verses is, obviously, an acoustic CD that I find absolutely beautiful, and The Quiet Offspring is basically a hard rock CD. All good stuff, but since I recently purchased them I'm gonna need a bit of time before I pick favourites between them, but the first one stands a good chance of doing well, I wasn't bored for a single minute of it the first time I listened to it.

Queensryche definitely lost a great deal when DeGarmo left the band.
ON the other hand, if Mindcrime II had a different title, it would probably be considered awesome. It's just that the mindcrime title holds a different standard.

I've been listening to classical music quite recently, don't ask me what, it was just on the classical radio station here so they have lots of artists I've never heard of, not that I remember artist names anyway. I always have listened to classical music but this is the first time I've started listening to it regularly.
And inbetween classical music I have been listening to metal (of course).

White Pony - Deftones
Deftones - Deftones
B-Sides and Rarities - Deftones
Team Sleep - Team Sleep
Saturday Night Wrist - Deftones
Deadwing - Porcupine Tree
The Acoustic Verses - Green Carnation

I wonder what the theme is today, eh? Well, I decided to play my entire Deftones collection (as well as side projects, which means the Team Sleep album) to celebrate the new Deftones CD that was just released called Saturday Night Wrist. So far, I've been very impressed with what I heard. Fans of the White Pony album will be very happy with it.

Saturday, Saturday, Saturday! Thats means, CDs, CDs, CDs! Here's this weekend's list:
Slaughter of the Soul - At the Gates
Made Me Do It - The Haunted
rEVOLVEr - The Haunted
The Dead Eye - The Haunted
Every Red Heart Shines Toward The Red Sun - Red Sparowes
The Eye of Every Storm - Neurosis
Monday Morning Apocalypse - Evergrey
Master of the Moon - Dio
Well this weekend goes to celebrate the new CD by The Haunted called "The Dead Eye". I started with the At the Gates CD because most of the members in The Haunted started in that band. Going back to the new CD though, I have to say that they implemented a new sound with "The Dead Eye". It leans towards heavy metal instead of the thrash metal that they've done in every other release. Personally, I find that very refreshing to hear; they still keep some of the thrash elements in their music, but with this release they're more subdue. The music doesn't go straight for the listener's juggular, instead it's more cerebral in it's attack.
This weekend I wanted to listen to a new CD that I got this weekend, which is the Red Sparowes (sic) CD. It's basically an instrumental band that plays long songs that are supposed to tell a story. The premise of the story is told in the song titles, which are a complete sentence long. The premise of this story is based in the 1950s when the Chinese government told it's people to kill all the sparrows so that their crop would grow better. The people complied, and when they did, the locust population grew to a devastating number. They ruined the crops, which caused a mass starvation in China where millions died from hunger.
I haven't given it a complete listen yet, but it's pretty melodic stuff. It's similiar to Isis' music only without the heavy cresendos of distorted guitars. This band still uses distorted guitars though. If the reviews I've read are true, this band contains members from Isis and Neurosis. It should be an interesting listen nonetheless

Metal Mallet, you have named so many awesome bands that I like! I love heavy metal, like As I Lay Dying, In Flames, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, and a ton of other stuff.
Radont, I love Project 86 as well!!

Nov 14 2006, 12:51 AM
Yea, heavy metal does seem to be my genre of choice. But most of all I just like to consider myself a fan of well crafted music as I often listen to music from other genres as well (though most of it is generally different forms of rock).
I haven't really given As I Lay Dying or In Flames much of a listen, but I do agree with you on Trivium, Killswitch, and All That Remains. I've been waiting in anticipation for the new Killswitch CD "As Daylight Dies". Only 8 days away! Unless what happened when I tried to get the new Isis CD happens.
I've read pretty much everywhere that the new Isis CD came out on Hallowe'en, yet for some reason in Canada I was told it comes out a week later. So I go back a week later, and they tell it's actually NEXT week (which is now this week). So I told them to give me a call when it actually comes in. So hopefully I get a call this week, even if I don't I'm still going to showup on the weekend and see if it's there.
I'm going to be soooo angry if it turns out that I hate it too. But given the reviews I read, that doesn't seem to be the case. I really want to have it this week though... 2 weeks of expecting to get it is too much.. *sobs*

Listening to The Mars Volta's Concertina, from their Tremulant EP.
The song is basically Omar and Cedirc putting the blame for the death of Julio Venegas on their former bandmate in At the Drive-In, Ben Rodriguez. Kind of harsh, even if justified, but it's still a good song, with well-written lyrics.

Well I may just be out of place here but music wise, it really depends. My playlist for the weekend consists of DJ Champion (A Canadian Like me!) with his song "No Heaven."
Chris Cornell and his song for the new 007 movie - you know my name.
Some New Billy Talent - Red Flag, Fallen Leaves etc...
Some Bodyrockers with "I like the way you move."
And for filler we have some John Mayer, K-Os, Dave Matthews Band, AFI, and oddly enough we have some Great Big Sea and Justin Timberlake in here too

Nov 25 2006, 04:30 PM
Eh Taillus, have ya heard the new K-Os CD yet? Atlantis: Hymns for Disco is a friggin' sweet CD! It's definitely going to be high up in my year end list. Cat Diesel, Equalizer, and Ballad of Noah are my favourite songs on that CD so far. His stuff is just so toe-tapping.
Anyways, I decided on a more mellow weekend work listening this weekend. Just for a change of pace. Here's the list of today's albums:
Goodbye Friends of Heavenly Bodies - Neverending White Lights
Eyes Open - Snow Patrol
Final Straw - Snow Patrol
Damnation - Opeth
The Mantle - Agalloch
The Acoustic Verses - Green Carnation
Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun - Red Sparowes
Absolution - Muse
Right now, "Shut Your Eyes" from the Eyes Open albums is playing.

Well here's this weekend's CD listening:
The Undying Darkness - Caliban
Alive or Just Breathing - Killswitch Engage
The End of Heartache - Killswitch Engage
As Daylight Dies - Killswitch Engage
The Fall of Ideals - All That Remains
Gone Forever - God Forbid
Constitution of Treason - God Forbid
Origo- Burst
The Poison - Bullet for My Valentine
The theme this weekend is playing basically all my metalcore collection. I just got the new Killswitch CD, As Daylight Dies, and I'm quite happy with it. I'm actually listening to "The Arms of Sorrow" off that album right now. I actually like their new one more than The End of Heartache, simply because they musicianship and vocals have improved once more. But it's still the relative same formula for them. Hopefully for their next release they try something a little different or take a few risks. But I certainly enjoyed this new one. "This is Absolution" is a friggin' beast!
I've also been listening to a lot of Into Eternity lately. I recently just got their last two CDs, 2006s The Scattering of Ashes, and 2003s Buried in Oblivion. Basically to describe them, I would call them an "extreme" power metal band, since they use all sorts of different vocal styles. Most of it is sung though in a progressive metal / power metal style, that makes it super catchy. The Buried in Oblivion CD in particular has a very Dream Theater guitar sound to them, just with harmonizing arpeggios and the shredding solos. Though the song "Black Sea of Agony" has a definite Dream Theater mid-tempo kinda groove to it. But still, it's amazing stuff, particular for fans of guitarwork.
Oh yes, and they're from Canada, I forgot to mention that!

From the middle of nowhere too, Regina Saskatchewan.

Well, my taste in music is primarily rock.
Specifically, metal.
Some bands I like are; System of a Down, avenged sevenfold, static-X, Black Sabbath, the beatles, red hot chilli peppers, evanescence + many more. That's only the very top of my list, but you can guess what else I like from there.
What I'm cdurrently listening to is some System of a Down songs that are new to me. It's like a whole new CD was released, though it wasn't (hiatus!). ALl the songs are songs that were released on various singles, Movie sound tracks, demo tapes, and live recordings, that DID NOT appear in the other CDs. SOme really bizzare stuff, and I love it. I especially like songs like 'Johnny' 'Friik!' and 'mushroom cult'(dog fashion disco feat. Serj Tankian). I'm quite pleased with all this stuff though. My favorite songs of all time by any artist:
Forest- system of a down Yesterday- the beatles Snowblind - black sabbath (system also has a great cover of this song)

Audioslave - Be YourselfQUOTE(lyrics)
Someone falls to pieces
Sleepin all alone
Someone kills the pain
Spinning in the silence
To finally drift away
Someone gets excited
In a chapel yard
Catches a bouquet
Another lays a dozen
White roses on a grave
To be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
Someone finds salvation in everyone
And another only pain
Someone tries to hide himself
Down inside himself he prays
Someone swears his true love
Untill the end of time
Another runs away
Separate or united?
Healthy or insane?
To be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
And even when you've paid enough, been pulled apart or been held up
With every single memory of the good or bad faces of luck
don't lose any sleep tonight
I'm sure everything will end up alright
You may win or lose
But to be yourself is all that you can do
To be yourself is all that you can do
It's just another one of my thousand anthems... keeps me running and breathing.

Another Saturday, another list. This one is to celebrate my purchase of the Isis CD, In the Absence of Truth:
Oceanic - Isis
Panopticon - Isis
In the Absence of Truth - Isis
The Eye of Every Storm - Neurosis
Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun - Red Sparowes
Origo - Burst
Aenima - Tool
Now with a couple of listens of the new Isis album, I can say I'm certainly pleased. They incorporate a different style, but it's still distinctively Isis. Basically the main changes are that they use more hypnotic sung vocals instead of the hardcore shouts, the drums have also become more hypnotic since they have a more tribal sound that sounds somewhat similar to Danny Carey's playing on Tool albums. I specifically like the hand drums used in the instrumental song Firdous E Bareen. They also have moved away from implementing the huge crescendo of heavy guitars. They still have moments like that, but not in the way of songs like Syndic Calls, or In Fiction from previous albums. I get a more rock feel then metal with this release. Which is perfectly fine with me!

This stuff is CRAZY good power metal. Really speedy stuff that's kinda along the lines of Dragonforce, but without the cheesy lyrical themes. The musicianship displayed by these guys is phenomenal considering their ages range from 17-23. And it's the drummer who is 17, and the drumming is absolutely nuts on this CD!
You can still see their youth in the singing department though, their singer sounds off-key every now and then when he tries to hit the high notes every once in awile. I can't to see what else they'll put out, because considering their youth, they're going to have lots of time to improve and become more solid. And they really really, good now, so that idea boggles my mind!
