It's saddening that governments are so hypocritical a lot of the time....

I was going to suggest a double major to Doomed as well. I know Pisces is taking two very different majors and he seems to be enjoying it. Between all the college courses I've had I have business and computer experience and supplies management and some art. So it doesn't hurt to have varied skills when job hunting, sometimes some art experience gives you an advantage when interviewing for a store supervisor position = for example. They figure you'll be more creative in your window displays.

The film writing sounds very fascinating. I'd think they'd emphasize English and Literature more than Theatre for that. I guess both are important to it though.
DoomedOne
Screenwriting and Playwriting are both courses included in english as well as film studies for screewriting and theatre arts for playwriting, but I could take playwriting or screewriting as a course in itself, I think only playwriting has any prerequisites, and those aren't restricted to theatre majors, What gets me is the directing class is a very advanced class and a hard class to get to, and I understand why they'd make it so hard to get there, it's just a little hard to decide if it's worth it to get involved in theatre arts so I can eventually get director's training.

I know someone who's on the terrorist watch list for writting "anti-government" papers in high school. He went to the airport ticket office because he couldn't buy tickets to L.A (he was born, raised and living in Florida). The women looked very scared when he asked for tickets and sent him to the security check in. He was followed by armed guards and when he finally asked why they were watching him so much, and they finally told him he was considered a terrorist and that due to his papers and Anti-Bush blog, his travel was very restricted. Rediculous.

I wrote this up for another site, but thought I'd share it here because... well, I have nothing better to do (edited slightly cos people don't like swearing here for some reason) - "How to benefit England by keeping a hippo"

The Hippo stage

Step 1 - Obtaining your hippo

The obvious way to obtain your hippo is to 'borrow' one from the local zoo. The difficult part is getting it out of the zoo without anyone noticing. There are numerous things you could try, but the easiest is probably to drive a van straight into the middle of the hippo enclosure and get one in the back of the van. It's proabably best to get someone you don't like to try to get it in the back of the van in case it is hungry. If anyone asks what you are doing, tell them they are having a bad dream and should go back to sleep. All in all, this is an incredibly stupid idea and it would be best to tranquilise one in the middle of the night and steal and steal it, leaving some fat kid in place of it, hoping no one notices the difference in the morning.

Step 2 - Where to keep your hippo

I was thinking the back garden would be a good place. Dig a large portion of it up and fill it with water and make sure it is fenced in well so it doesn't come inside and compassion on the carpet. It will stink.

Step 3 - Keep your hippo hungry

Reasons for this will be clear in a moment

The benefitting England stage

Step 1 - Preparing your house

Firstly, you need to go to your local job centre building and steal the signs. IF this proves impossing because the queue for benefits is so long you can't get anywhere near the signs to steal then, try returning at night. This is probably not safe as some chavs drunk on White Lightening (bought at the expense of the tax payer) will probably be there and shout things at you, before attempting to steal your wallet because you were "*cahv profanity* star'in'" and you are a "*chav profanity* 'ead". If events work out like this and you can't get the sign to put above your front door, just write "benefit office" on some paper and stick that above your front door instead. These people are very stupid and it won't take much to fool them.

Step 2 - ... whatever time chavs go to get their benefits on dole day

The chavs will be outside your house queuing because they want their free money. You will need to let them in and tell them the free money is out the back, where you are keeping your (hungry) hippo.

Step 3 - Mission Accomplished

The chavs will have walked straight into the hippo enclosure. You can watch through a window to see the chavs getting killed and eaten by said hippo. Some may try to start on the hippo. This will just be funny.

You have now benefitted England. Well done

Next Week - How to benefit England by... keeping Rattlesnakes

Yeah... so anyway, Looking for a job stinks. I keep applying but no one seems to get back to me about anything.

I've finished my 2nd lil' piece of prose yesterday, or to be precise, today mornin X| and now I can't find a decent bloody religious quote to finish it, before its sent to polishing and fixing *grammar errors & so).
I guess you'll all just have to wait a few more days. I'm sorry, Minkey.

Edit: Ramirez, LOL, LOL & 1000 times LOLLL ! biggrin.gif You sound cheerfull, good buddie, inspite the fact that you're hunting jobs like me... keep up that spirit and remember that there are worse places for an unemployed person to exist - Serbia, for one (we don't own hippos, damn!). I just learned that the official number of unemployed people here is 18% (but it's more likely to be 22%, in reality).

Edit 2: I love this new Quick Edit option, it really makes a poster's life more easier smile.gif Excellent Job, Guys !

1. So, these companies are responsible for collective farming? The answer, by the way, is no. Blame governments for that. The supermarkets are doing the same thing you are; getting what they need at a better price at the expense of others. But at least they didn't rely on five finger discounts.

And the money they pay aids the governments of those countries that support collective farming programs, which helps them get out of debt, which will more than likely help to end the program altogether. Poverty breeds collective farming, and the US's big businesses inadvertently eliminates poverty. I mean, look at what we've done for China. We've used Chinese laborers for decades because it's cheap. Now look at what's happening. The workers are demanding better conditions, hours, and wages. China is becoming more and more powerful, and there is a higher standard of living all around. That same thing will happen because of these 'brown nose' supermarkets.

Erm, hate to burst your bouble but there is a very well documented link between increasing poverty and the introduction of neoliberal structural adjustments. Exports in underdeveloped countries only support wealthy land owners, New York stock brockers, corrupt governments and fat multinational corperations while leaving the countries with enough farms to easily feed the entire country with no food, water or medical care, export crops use foreign hybrid plants which require loads of pesticides because they are not resistant to the local environment, pesticides leave the farm unusable in 3-4 years, requiring the destruction of local forest leading to erosion and release of rain into the atmosphere, leading to droughts, landslips, floods and hurricanes. Although it may seem like buying coffee, bananas and such is giving money to these poor people, they would be far better off poor with food to eat, rather than poor with no food and no hope, even better if you buy fair trade they can actaully support themselves and the community without leaving longstanding environmental damage.

Collective farming is mostly used in communist and totalitarian governments. Therefore, much of the money goes to that government. And if that government is communist, like China, then they have more money to distribute to the people, so each individual gets more money, then see my earlier statement. Besides, I doubt the people that work the farms complain. For them, it's a way to feed themselves where they had no other. What's worse, working for food instead of wages or starving? Neither are ideal, but for those people it's far better than what they had before.

Looking for a job is so depressing. Why everywhere wants previous experience is beyond me. No one actually wants to train me to do a job. then if I apply for some rubbish job (like the parcel sorting one I applied for) I'm over qualified for it (which I was told in a creative manner). So here I am with a degree and bugger all experience in anything (2 summers working in a supermarket). I'm either over qualified or under experienced and it is starting to get extremely depressing.

Oy... I guess you were'n cheerfull at all... Good buddie, it's the same ol' crap everywhere, believe me. The only difference is, here it is virtually impossible to even FIND a job & earn some cash. Everyone only seems to want godamn sales specialsts mad.gif and they always want several years (mot often 3) of previous expirience + very young people, bellow 27 ; they don't realise it's a bloody OXYMORON - to have some expirience in any field you have to spend time working something, and with time you get older. Well, there is a worker shortage where Rainer is, so people are desparate to hire.

Rainer went "jobhunting" with his mother about 2 days ago.
The Metal Mallet
I guess I got a bit lucky with getting my job. I think the only reason I got it was because I said I played lacrosse. Because the person who hired me is now in Calgary, attempting to become the goalie for their proffessional lacrosse team. Lucky me.

My brothers on the other hand are stuck doing roofing. Sure they get more money than me, but I don't really have to work to get my money biggrin.gif

Where I live (Ontario) we're hosting the olympics soon, but we have a major trades shortage. We barely have enough people that do constrution to get the stadiums ready, so now our government is costantly pushing jobs like roofing and brick laying on grade school and high school kids. Really funny seing all these trades conventions pop up everywhere, but they really are good jobs. A plumber makes more than a teacher now.
The Metal Mallet
Yea, I'm pretty sure I'll be getting into some sort of electrical trade, whether that be industrial, robotics, or something along those means. It seems to be the most natural trade I can do. The next closest thing I can see me doing is writing professionally, or teaching. I don't really want to teach; I don't think I wanna handle the kind of stress teachers go through tongue.gif
Ibis
Electrical robotics, that would be cool! That sounds fascinating to me.
The Metal Mallet
Yea, we have a robotics competition at my highschool, over the last few years we've made some really high caliber robots, this year I'll hopefully do the electrical work with my one friend. The other members work on the actual building of parts and whatnot. Takes months of work but it would be really good for experience. I only volunteered from time to time this year due to my work schedual, since that's changed, I'll be able to get actual hours in on the robot.
DoomedOne
I registered for classes. I picked the Theatre Arts major even though I can't find directing emphasis, I'll get there. There will be a crapload of obstacles, but I like the Campus, I got into Honors so I'm taking Honors Core and Honors Econ, and I met some really like minded people at the overnight registration, as well as some hotties. Also, my scholarship is overly strict for what, in the end, isn't that great of a fee deduction. But I'm pretty excited.
Ibis
That's great Doomed. Your off and running in your new college life. Make it memorable, fun and I know you are already keeping in mind the ultimate outcome ... so you are doing good. Honors? That's fantastic. Try to get a sampling of all the different kinds of folks who attend your school. That helps get the best education for real life.

And Mallet I am also very impressed by you. I've seen those robot competions on TV and we just love watching them. It's just so awesome how one robot will beat another and you think "well, that's the king o' the robots" and then it's next opponent will come out with an entirely different angle of attack and the previous victor isn't built to withstand the unique attack. I wish you luck and you can always use that experience on any application to a job or school.
Megil Tel-Zeke
that sounds great doomed happy.gif.
The Metal Mallet
Oops, sorry if I misled you Ibis. Our robot competition is for doing tasks, not destroying other bots. Each year it's a different task, complete with restrictions and rules and such. Last year, the task was to take a (American) football, and drop it in a hoop that's 5 feet tall. Other years have had tasks like, shooting pucks into a curling house, shooting tennis balls into nets, and fishing out doggy toys trapping in gravel and placing them on shelves.

I forgot to answer The Metal Mallet. Your competitions sound even harder than destroying other bots. Interesting. Do you think you could design me a robot that would allow me to always pick up and win the little stuffed animals that are in the glassed in bin at the arcades?

{The only way I ever got any was way back when Cain was a game room operator and they let me have one of each stuffed animal as a wifely perk.} tongue.gif

Hmmmm, that would be a challenge, sounds like something that would have to be constantly reprogrammed. So it might be a bit of a waste if you have to lug around a hard drive everywhere. I would have to say there's still chance involved because the robot wouldn't be able to analyze the claw or the orientation of the prize you're attempting to capture. It would be nice to get one like that though, wouldn't have to waste money every again on those things, and it would immediately impress the ladies. 1st reason would be because you could say you designed/created the robot, and the 2nd when you actually get them the prize.

It would be easier to design a robot to throw balls at stacked bottles that you find at the carnivals, just have to create a definitive accuracy device that could have programmed distances, and balls weights. It would probably cost a heckload though, motor controllers alone cost over $250 CND...
Ibis
They say that all those carnival guys cheat and when something looks really simple they have it rigged someway that you can't win. I wonder what they do? Maybe your robot could go around and threaten them, that might be easier or at least cheaper. laugh.gif

Ugh. Rainer is in a huge slump.

Because Rainer's father happened to have installed a new computer Update which made Norton Internet Security active, and Now Rainer can't get on the Offical Forums or the Gaia forums! sad.gif

And to make matters worse, Rainer's email was blocked too! sad.gif

And if that wasn't enough, Rainer cannot get onto DA or Gamefaq, two sites he frequents very often.

Rainer also tried the TESRP site, but The Bookmark is out of date and Rainer cannot Contact Kindred Spirit (the admin) because he cannot acsess the Foums.

With one click of a button, all of that Gone!

Nevermind Megil, it was just in the script I'm writing there's this cruise ship, and American owned cruise ship but it's course is the Gulf of Mexico and South, along the eastern side of Central America, so they're trying to have some facade of latin culture on board, and in likeness they gave the cruise ship a spanish name, but the idea is that whoever named the ship doesn't know spanish, so there was supposed to be a mistranslation with the name where it ended up being the Spanish term for "Wet Dream," and since I don't know any cultures I don't know what they called that particular occurrence. In the end though I figured it'd be something completely unrelated like "night milk" or something, so I decided the joke still stands if I call this cruise ship "La barco del sueno mojo" a cruise ship for american tourists that secretly transports drugs.
Ibis
Doomed, stop making me laff! What a name for a cruiseship ... Wet Dream. lololool Now this is okay with the censor right? We don't want the coffeeshop closed even thought business is slow right now. Some cafe con leche for you perhaps??
Kiln
Dang...the forums seem dead lately...sad. I hope things pick back up soon.
Ibis
I know Kiln. Well, hopefully it's just the summer doldrums or whatever. My god, here in Florida in August, everyone who can reverts to the old Florida tradition before air conditioning of living at night, sleeping by day. People who have to be outside in high afternoon act like they've been out in a warzone, even if they just have to go between air conditioned car to air conditioned building.

I too hope things pick up soon. But on a good note - they have repaired the cracked cement walk at our pool, so that's where I'll be basically until September or October anyways. lolol goodjob.gif
The Metal Mallet
Lucky you, I'm just glad my home is well air conditioned. Fortunately Canadian weather is only slightly unbearable, normally only about a week of disgustingly hot days where I live. I'm more of a nightcrawler myself anyways, but damn work messes that up for me sad.gif

I do hope things pick up a bit though, it looks like it's starting to, last week was totally did, this week shows some promise. Yay!
Ibis
Yes Mallet, a few of us having loyally been hanging around. Doomed, you, Kiln, Stargelinho, Megel ... sure I'm forgetting lots of people. But I'm sure they'll be back. IF they all come back in like 3 weeks ... we will know for a fact that this is a Minque Fan Club Site. ROFL

I'm sure she is a great person to know in Real Life too. Wonder how her vacation is going? In Germany, right? Had some good times myself there, way way back.
