YAY!! Welcome back Stomach-Ache & Megil. blackwizardsmile.gif yellowwizardsmile.gif

So glad you are both back. Stomach-Ache, that is fantastic about Amanda! Best of luck to both of you. And it sounds like it worked out the way it was meant to somehow with the 2 others going their own way.

It's very nice that you won't have to move to a different town. It'll be way easier to find a job where you already are. Sounds like the apartments you looked at are nice. I hope things continue to work out good for you.

Megil, I admire you for working whilst going to school and we would never yell at you for not being here when RL gets hectic. That happens to all of us at times. And it is wonderful to hear that you're applying for scholarships. Good luck there! What type art do you do?

(I'm considering going back to school for art or for game design.)
1234king
on the school subject, i don't know if any of you guys in college and highskool remember these things we call FSA's oooooooooooooo scary ph34r.gif omg they are such a waste of time and you don't even get a mark. it's so very pointless
Ibis
Are those the letters that are abreviated for the college entrance exams? Or, the tests that give your rating that the colleges will look at?

When I took mine, I came out as a senior in high school with the reading level of a graduate college student but the math skills of a high school freshman. Very high English - low Math.

And my dad was an electrical engineer, so there was a question to him whether it was even worthwhile to send me to college with such a low math grade.
stargelman
Hahaha... Ibis, I'm right there with you as far as math is concerned.

I'm really really bad with math. The funny part is, I've been told you really had to be good with math to do computer stuff. Turned out I needed no math skills whatsoever, and now I'm a software developer.

My last math grade in IT college was a 5, where 1 is best and 6 is worst. Or was it the other way around? These funny numbers always confuse me laugh.gif
Foster
well, unfortunately part of my degree is an ability in maths, which means that I've had maths tests every single year at a horrible, shuddering level. Take for example this beauty.

13. A dopamine infusion is set up for a patient weighing 56Kg, to deliver 2.5mcg/kg/min. The infusion syringe contains 300mg dopamine in 50mls normal saline. What should the infusion rate be?
A. 1.4mls/hr
B. 8.4mls/hr
C. 14mls/hr
D. 17mls/hr
E. 84mls/hr

You've got 20 of those to do in 1 hour (that's 3 minutes per question), without a calculator, and a pass mark of 70%. I failed the first one, but my resit was on Monday and I just found out that I passed - which means no more calculation tests for me! Ever! Unless I want to sit one (which I don't)!
stargelman
Hehehe..that's great!

You can bet I was in extacy when I was done with my last math exam. To know I'd never have to do one again was more than a bit exhilerating.
Olav
I actually liked and did quite well in maths until I started college/uni, when maths no longer made any sense. It was like I was stranded on some surreal planet where all logic was opposite of normal... blink.gif
Megil Tel-Zeke
To answer the earlier queston, my art is a bit of dabbing in everything. I do a little here and a little there. enough to appease myself, not good enough for others *shrug*

not sure about those exams, the name doesn't sound familiar. But on the math subjcts I am alright at it, have yet to take a college math, but have calculus with analytical geometry this coming semester, which I am not particularly looking forwards too >.<. But I need the course for my major so got to suck it up.
Kiln
Welcome back Megil, great to see you check in we were starting to get a bit worried. smile.gif
Khajiit Overlord Rainer
Well, RAiner thinks he is odd. Mostly because most of his marks come from tests and exams (Rainer loves exams, but hates homework with a passion) and that he seems to rarely require to study for them. In middle school he didn't study for any of his finals and he still got high 70's and low 80's. ohmy.gif

Rainer is different, Rainer supposes. kvright.gif
Fethenwen
Ah geez, don't mention math...

it's my worst enemy.
Kayla
I'm horrible at math too. sad.gif
1234king
well i took an IQ test today and i got 113. i am 12 years old is that high for me. but on thr math subject i am so horrible at math. in math class while everyone else is chatting and having fun i have to sit at what my friends call the "stupid table" because i am challenged at amth. sad.gif
Pisces
Depending on what type of IQ test you took, the average is typically 100 for most tests. IQ tests vary in what they measure as well, most measure responce time to oral ques (which is why people with the test langauge as a second langauge tend to do badly). But yes 113 is above average so you can say with statistical probability that you are smarter than your friends biggrin.gif Even if they can beat you in maths.

Personally I am quite good at maths I was near the top of my form in school and I got top equal for one of the maths test even though I never study biggrin.gif Strangly enough I was never in the "smart class" for maths in school even though I could beat most of them in maths.
Wolfie
Maths has never been my forte

I do ok in it, i'm in the highest class in my school for it, but i pretty much get average marks, in the middle. Not especially high or especially low.
Fuzzy Knight
The only thing I'm actually really good in when it comes to Math is constructions and such. Making all kinds of shapes, finding locations on maps, making angles, making certain shapes out of a triangle etc. graphical things to say it like that - those are the only I usually get max points on... smile.gif

Indeed i do dislike red wine smile.gif
And no, Fuzzy Knight made the shiney new sig for me biggrin.gif

You don't like red wine? You're crazy.

Seriously though, just be grateful it's not high blood pressure. Low blood pressure is annoying, sometimes really annoying. But afaik you don't die of low blood pressure. High blood pressure on the other hand leads to a lot of very bad things.

Edit: teh intarweb says you're supposed to drink coffee, work out and take hot and cold showers in the morning to combat this problem.

well that's it. 7:30 tonight is the last time i'll see her. my girlfriend is actually off to Ohio (like 10 hours north) for the entire summer, and then she will likely come back here to TN only to actually move about an hour and a half west of here.

this sucks sad.gif

Maybe you should consider finding another girlfriend?
Ibis
Wolfie, so sorry to hear about your low blood pressure.

I hope the doctor is giving you a good treatment so you feel better.

What's intresting is that the systolic is only 10mmHg over the diastolic. Of course I am not about to give my medical opinion over the internet whilst knowing bugger all about the situation, but its interesting.

Sorry if that sounded a little callous. I didn't mean it that way.

and Wolfie I am sorry to hear about the blood pressure. will be hoping things improve for you.

Agree on that Starge, since I suffer from high blood-pressure, but itīs very well treated with a good medicine, so I really donīt "suffer" from it!

Now that is the inconsistency of mothers! I do understand her ..see, she wants you to take the licence, then you can take her where she wanna go and things like that also itīs a sign of you growing up to a man..ok...

Now of course she would hate to have you far off..I mean youīre her son for gods sake! Mothers donīt want their sons to ga away.....jeez Iīll hate it when my son will move out! (ok heīs 11)

Bear with her! iīm also a mother..and I didnīt feel all that bad when my eldest daughter moved to US.....I wonīt mind my younger daughter get a life..but I klnow myself, Iīll be devastated when sonny leaves!!!! sad.gif
treydog
Man, that is not good, Wolfie. But at least now they have a handle on what is happening- hopefully treatment will be available and effective.

Not to be scary, but the big problem with low BP is stroke. Basically, the walls of the blood vessels tend to be thin- then when BP spikes, they can't handle it.

As far as mothers and sons- Minque is quite right. (Naturally tongue.gif) Mrs. Treydog has two children from her first husband. Both live somewhat "away." And she misses her son the most. Not sure where that comes from, but moms really have a hard time with sons growing up and getting out on their own. What can I say- our families drive us crazy because they love us....

for headaches i usually just get aspirin. for depression.... im not sure.
Megil Tel-Zeke
I understand the whole parental attachment, but *shurg* it gets annoying.

Anyways Mazelure, I would seek a proffssional opinion and attention to bopth the issues. Depression is multifaceted and hard to tell you how to treat it without undergoing detailed observation first. The random out of the blue headaches I would also get exmined. While more than likely harmless it could also be an extremely serious problm that you are unawares about (apart of course from the headaches). So my advice would be to go see your GP and see what they have to say then if needed get referred to a specialist.
Mazelure
yeah... I should make an appointment with my doctor... I just try to sleep through the depression and the head aches are probaly coming from my loss of sleep at night (since I tend to sleep during the day)... but thanks... I appreciate the help...

Kudos... Kudos
Foster
Well, depression is a big subject, and obviously there are a lot of degrees - just being depressed isn't automatically clinical depression, and then you've got a whole host of varieties, all of which have specific methods of treatment. And even the common depression enters the two-figures when you're looking at possible drug therapies; largely choice of medication is based on things such as patient tolerance, contra-indications (ie if you're pregant there are drugs to avoid), effect, doctor perference, etc. And some people don't even advocate that, perferring other solutions. Oh, and that isn't mentioning the so-called herbal remedies that are a whole subject in themselves...

So basically if you're concerned about depression, you should talk to your doctor and look for a professional diagnosis. I'm certainly not in a position to give medical advice, beyond referral to your doctor. Especially as any medical treatment would require a prescription.

Headaches are, if you can believe it, even more of a black hole than depression. There are so many possible causes and so many possible types of headache that really there is no way for me to give adequate advice without talking to you about your symptoms and certain lifestyle possibilities (which in a pharmacy would take half a minute and chances are I'd sell you an analgesic), but without being able to do that obviously I have to refer you to your doctor if they are a regular occurance.
Ibis

Mazelure, please DO make an appointment with your doctor, who can decide what type doctor you should see. To have depression and headaches both together can be coming from a serious condition, really. Don't delay or just put up with the pain - there is pain associated with depression itself for most people afflicted by it. But if you headaches are of a migraine sort, then it is more serious and you should get treated immediately.
Mazelure
the depression is not new but the head aches are... maybe I am coming down with something... either way I will make a appointmen... head aches suck... big time... but thanks for all of your concern...
Olav
I had a constant head ache some years ago. Not very strong, but extremely annoying. Then I went to the doctor, and he ordered one of those head-scans (not sure of the English term). It didn't show anything, luckily...

Well it turned out that the reason for my head aches was because I drank too little water! All I drank at the time was coffee and cola (and sometimes alcohol in the weekends), and all of these are dehydrating as you may know. So now I'm drinking at least one liter of water a day, and I have no more head-aches... smile.gif Sorry, just felt like sharing this... wacko.gif

Sorry about your depression. My mother suffered from that, and she tried to commit suicide twice. Not a good situation for anyone in the family, I can assure you... Hang on, and best wishes for your future. Remember most depressions are caused by your own mind playing tricks on you, so it's not really you there is something wrong with, however strange that may sound. If you get it fixed, you'll be glad you did...
Foster
I had a constant headache once. Then I broke up with my girlfriend.
Ibis
Ta ha ha Foster.

Depression is actually a nervous disorder caused by mineral imbalances in your body. The imbalances affect the way your brain processes things. That is why, with a proper diagnosis and the right medicine, your depression can be lifted and your moods kept constant, even if there is no cure. Some people are genetically suseptible to depression and so far a cure has not been found for them. Others who are suffering depression due to circumstances can be cured in therapy.
