Cthulhu cannot die, so that is off the table. But I do believe Vader would defeat him. It is not like Vader is going to go insane from merely witnessing the Mighty Cthulhu's cosmic horror. It would take a long time, but I think Vader would eventually chop Cthulhu up into little pieces, and toss him back into R'yleh. And then maybe blow it up with the Death Star.

But of course once the stars are right again, Mighty Cthulhu will rise from the waves once more...

I just finished watching A New Hope again. For the most part it dovetails in perfectly after seeing Rogue One. Everything we saw in Rogue One looks just like it does in A New Hope, especially the Death Star interiors and control screens and the Rebel Base stuff. Even the little personnel carriers in the Yavin base look the same. One little discrepancy I noted was that in the beginning of A New Hope Vader confronts Leia and says "several transmissions were beamed to this ship". But we (and he) saw in Rogue One that the plans were transferred to the Tantive IV on a data card, not by a wireless transmission. But that aside, it does look as if both films were essentially shot back to back. In the extras on the Rogue One disc, Gareth Edwards says that was exactly what he was looking to do.

Now I want to hear Mark Hamill do some of Luke's lines in his Joker voice. Well, almost... biggrin.gif

Well the plans where transmitted from Scariff maybe that's what Vader meant in ANH.

I was thinking that too. But it is really stretching it. I think they went with the disc in Rogue One because in A New Hope we see Leia put the data disc into R2. But we never saw her copy the plans onto the disc before that. So in Rogue One we see the data copied onto the disc, and handed to her. That keeps the continuity intact. It just does not entirely match with what Vader said 40 years ago.

I just finished watching Moana. It was excellent. I was laughing when Moana insisted she was not a princess, and Maui shot back: “If you wear a dress and have an animal sidekick, then you’re a princess.” A very fun movie with a heart of gold.

I have also been listening to more of the Dark Adventure Radio Theater shows. Yesterday I did The Thing On The Doorstep, and today The Shadow Over Innsmouth. Next up is Dagon - War of the Worlds. From what I understand it is a completely new story, based on the War of the Worlds, but with Dagon instead of Martians. It is amazing how well done these things are. I just love them. This is all I can think when I go to the HPLHS site now. smile.gif

And wow, Sean Branney from HPLHS just dropped me a short email saying what a great pair of shows I picked to buy the last time - The Shadow Over Innsmouth and Dagon - War of the Worlds. I figured they would dovetail nicely together. So fan girl *Squee!* smile.gif

Escape from New York!

You're Snake Plissken? I thought you were dead?

In other news I did listen to Dagon - War of the Worlds when I was at work Friday. It was really cool. It does pick up where The Shadow Over Innsmouth left off. The protagonist from SOI makes a brief appearance in War of the Worlds as well. It is an entirely new story, inspired by HP Lovecraft, and from real life The War of the Worlds radio broadcast. Basically it is the latter, but with Deep Ones instead of Martians. It was a lot of fun.

I also forgot to mention that a while back I listened to The White Tree. It is another original radio show by HPLHS. This one is a story of Inspector Legrasse from The Call of Cthulhu. It is a very neat mashup of a KKK group that have blended into cthultists. So far everything HPLHS has done has been outstanding.

I listened through most of The Brotherhood of the Beast today, another Dark Adventure Radio Theater show. I say most, because this one has 4 endings. Each is a different plan that the protagonists have to choose from to resolve the cosmic horror that they uncovered. I have only listened to 2 of the endings. This is really cool, it is like those old Choose Your Adventure books. But in a radio program.

BoB is also neat because it is not only an all new story, but it is a gaming tale, based off the Fungi From Yuggoth adventure for The Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game. I remember this! I had it, and I was going to run my group through it, but never had the chance. I went looking for it just now, but could not find it or any of my old Call of Cthulhu rpg books. They might not have survived my last move. Or maybe I gave them away. I cannot remember. In any case, it was really cool. It brought back so many gaming memories.

I finished the last two endings of Brotherhood of the Beast. Wow, they did not pull any punches. Our team of intrepid adventurers really paid the price for saving the world. Well, in the endings where they did! I hope they make a sequel to it, as one character's fate sort of hangs in the balance (at least in one of the endings).

I have traded a few more emails with Sean Branney (one of the people who runs HPLHS, and stars in and co-produces their movies and radio shows). He told me that they did have Guillermo del Toro over to their offices more than once, and suggested to him that they go in on doing an At The Mountains of Madness movie as an indie film, rather than a big studio venture. The studio killed his Mountains of Madness movie idea, so maybe? I heard that del Toro even had Tom Cruise on board to star in it. Tbh, I just cannot see Cruise starring in a Lovecraft film. Or it being a big summer blockbuster. There is a fan base for Lovecraft, but not that much. The smaller indie movies like the ones HLPHS did work much better for Lovecraft.

In any case, these are some really cool guys.

Perhaps the studio thought the same thing. But they probably killed it more because there was no romance in it, and no happy ending. And it was going to be expensive. I honestly don't think any Lovecraft movie that costs 150 million to make is ever going to come close to making that back at the box office. There just isn't that kind of audience for Lovecraft. The only way to do it is in an indie movie.

I just got done watching Arrival. It was good. Really good. But a bit slow. It could have been 20 minutes shorter. Towards the end some things started to feel like Deus Ex Machina too. But I have to admit that those things were completely logical, and were part of what made the story the story. I don't want to give away spoilers, so I cannot go into details. If you are in the mood for a good cerebral drama about an alien first contact, you won't be disappointed.

I could never get into Voyager. I did watch DS9 for a while, but I think I just got burned out on Star Trek back then, as it came after all 7 years of Next Gen.

I put the following in the wrong topic the other day!

I started watching Haunted. I videotaped it back when it was on tv 15 years ago. Last year I broke down and bought it on dvd. I finally got around to watching it again. It is still a solid tv show. It is too bad it only went for about a dozen episodes.

I am also doing a Hunger Games marathon, this time on 4k. Every time I watch the series, I like it more. I am surprised no one has ever made a Mockingjay armor mod for Skyrim or Fallout. It would be perfect for either game.
TheCheshireKhajiit
Khajiit is watching a fun little show on the Flix of the Net called The 100. It's about the people of a space station (called "The Ark") that was built to protect a group of people from the ravages of a nuclear war down on earth. It's unclear when this space station was built and by whom (at least in the first season, of which Khajiit is about halfway through), but in any case, 97 years after they first inhabited the station it is discovered that the station is failing. They then round up 100 juvenile delinquents who were imprisoned for various crimes, load them in a dropship with little wrist monitors, and send them down to earth to see if it's survivable on the planet's surface. What ensues is a sort of descent into savagery that Khajiit found entertaining. Worth a watch, as long as you aren't expecting too much from it.
SubRosa
I tried 100, but could not get into it. I kept thinking that I would kill almost all of those douche bags if I was there (like the ones stopping others from eating, when they didn't even kill the game). It annoyed me so much that those people were still alive after three episodes, that I gave up.

That is the problem with playing a character like Persephone. Sometimes she rubs off on me too much.

The two-parter in The Library. Bloody good stuff. Genuinely creepifying(because yes, that's a word now), on so many levels. It's like a horror film with a pg rating. River Song annoys me, but apart from that, it's bloody brilliant.
