QUOTE(The Metal Mallet @ Jul 26 2006, 02:17 PM)

I enjoyed the parts that had music in the last Mars Volta album, wasn't really into the long seguements of white noise, particularly the second half of "The Widow". I would've perferred a better way of segueing into songs that white noise. Though the 4 minutes it takes for "Miranda That Ghost Isn't Holy Anymore" was pretty cool.
I'm not a big fan of that either, but it's no issue for me to just fast forward it when I don't want to listen to it.
Anyway, just realized that Iron Maiden is coming out with a new album come September. I was expecting it to be a huge disappointment just before I started listening to the sample song The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg on their website. Surprisingly, it doesn't suck. As a matter of fact, it's now one of my favorite Maiden songs.

I'm almost ashamed to admit it because of the association of this artist with a certain techno mega event in Berlin, but I'm currently listening to Westbam. As opposed to the music usually played at aforementioned event, his tracks are very melodic, have good vocals and are intelligent. The album I'm listening to is Right On, so far my favorite.
Westbam - Oldschool - just ignore the embarrassing video and Nena. The song itself is pretty good
Westbam - Hard Times - one of my Westbam favorites. Better video.
The station logo on the second video certainly reminds me of better times

It is the logo of VIVA, which once was one of the most appreciated stations in Germany. They had loads and loads of music vids, oftentimes of bands you never heard of before. Good stuff. And they had a number of very cool VJs like Charlotte Roche. And then what happened? [censored] MTV bought VIVA, fired everyone except for the cleaning staff, and now it's a ****ing ringtone advertizement station. No more music. No more originality. Nothing. It's on the air as a dead husk of what it once was. It's a damn shame is what it is.
In loving memory:

Wow, Stargelman - nice band. I liked both videos but you are right the second one was better. That guy with the crewcut is a heckuva robot dancer. Awesome! The girl was very fluid.
Also, that site led me to some videos taken of Warsaw, Poland and very fascinating was the Spanish speaking tour of Poland and Prague. Pretty cool since I can understand Spanish a little but Polish not at all despite the fact I spoke it as a young child. I am half Polish but heritage deprived really. So thanks, that was very cool to watch!

Now listening to "Hey Jude" ... which was originally Hey Jules for Julian Lennon of course. Sometimes I just can't believe that two of the Beatles aren't with us anymore. Of course they always will be in their music. I remember the makeout parties to the new Liverpool beat "She Loves You' and the wild dancing to "I Wanna Hold Your Hand." An energy took over America like no other had ever seen. The Britsh Invasion = such power is music. Led to ??? Heavy Metal, the Surfers Yell to the Invasion, Free Thinking, Vietnam Protest, Alternative, Dylan

going electric, all kinds of shocking world shatterers.
But back then, in the purer days of "Mr. Postman" and "Listen Do You Want to Know A Secret" - I remember how shocked we all were just to discover that Paulie wore no underwear under his jeans when his little butt got burnt riding a bus sitting on the battery metal and the studs of his jeans heated up = hahaha, can you believe that that was in our beloved Beatle Magazines?

And Cynthia Lennon being so mad at John's infidelities with Yoko that she stripped their entire house of furniture when she left him, including cutting the carpet in strips and taking that with her too. No wonder Julian needed Hey Jude advice.
Well, this is my Beatle rant for the day, the week, the month. Back to "Start Me Up" with the Stones... the down n dirty flip side to the Liverpudlian coin who've managed to stay alive (although always looking like old men) and never hesitated to "Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself" from the darker side of life. That song always reminds me now of Tom

Cruise and Brad

Pitt tooling acrost that bridge at the end of Interview With A Vampire.
Now "Layla" is playing. Don't even get me started on Clapton. Ahhh and Ginger Baker. Back in the day!

My latest purchases at the local CD shop have been, Stone Sour's "Come What(ever) May", Voivod's "Quatorz"(sounds like the French word for fourteen, isn't spelled correctly in French though), Meshuggah's "Nothing", and Helmet's "Monochrome".
I'm impressed with the Stone Sour CD the most. Though I have to admit, the last song, Zzyxx Rd., sounds like it has the same ending as Puddle of Mudd's Blurry, just with a solo and piano. The vocal delivery, and the rhythm guitar sounds pretty near note for note like the song Blurry. It's still a wonderful song though, just that I found that amusing. Course I might be insane....
The Voivod CD I bought on a hunch. Just the fact that I knew they were Canadian and that Jason Newsted played on it compelled me to buy it. I also read a few things that they were an interesting band. I would have to say that was right, it took a few songs to get used to the vocals, but after that I found they were pretty cool. I'm now compelled to get their supposedly "best" albums after checking out reviews.
The Meshuggah CD is interesting at least, just really complex, since their a math-metal band. Though, the monotone vocals can get a little grating after a wile. There's only one song that has a different vocal approach, and I didn't like it as much as the usual vocals. I'll still probably get Chaosphere and Destroy.Erase.Improve though. Those two are supposed to be speedier and I think I'll like it a bit more.
I'm not entirely impressed with the Helmet CD, in fact, I was moreso impressed with their previous one, Size Matters, which seems to me that more people hated. I think it might be just the first few songs really just sound awful, the latter half actually isn't bad. I wish I could find Meantime though, Unsung is such a sweet song....

Kraftwerk - We are the Robots
I've really been getting into Kraftwerk recently. I first heard them at the end of Bill Bailey's Part Troll DVD, where they did the hokey cokey in German at the end of the show. Currently, We are the Robots is probably my favourite song by them. I don't know why I like them so much really... generally I'm not a fan of this electronic music but for some reason I can really enjoy listening to Kraftwerk. Maybe its because they pretty much invented it

Spent the day listening to my Beatles Anthology which was a Christmas present from a very good friend of ours the year it came out. Right now dancers are dancing on "So You Think You Can Dance" to the song The End of The Road which sounds darned like a Paul McCartney song.
Also was at MySpace adding videos to my account. Doomed reminded me there how much I love the Beatles - specially Ringo - in the most unique way that I'll never look at rings in the same way again. I do have a ring collection .... 37 silver and 12 gold ones ... counting my gold wedding band with 8 small emeralds in the holderbands around the diamond engagement ring and my simple silver wedding band that Cain made in his silversmithing class. That is my prized ring.
I love rings and Ringo was my favorite Beatle. We are taking a survey, btw, at MySpace to decide which Beatle DoomedOne looks the most like. There are prizes !!!

Yes, I agree with you there Ibis. Alice is the breaker of rock...he made it possible. Actually ell the famous bands from the seventies, are where they are right now beacuse of AlcieCooper, he was the one who started with rock as something really big, all the famous bands have said it themselves, Alice Cooper showed and made us the way.
But within the Glam rock, I like Kiss, and Wig Wam best (Wig Wam is actually a Norwegian band, quite popular here in europe). But twisted Sister are some realmeanies as well....their songs rock ahrd....I WANNA ROCK.

but the definate best band ever is AC/DC in my humble

Anyway, listening to some '80s that I actually like. Revolution Calling by none other than Queensryche.
I think what separates bands like Queensryche from the ones I don't like such as Kiss and Twisted Sister is the fact that they aren't into promoting the same three things useless rebellion, sex, and drugs. I mean, what separates us from animals here? Admittedly, Queensryche does mention those things, but not in a glamorous light.

Yeh you are right Danny about bands who seem to condone drug use. I always had trouble with song lyrics like Cocaine, Casey Jones and even my beloved Van Halen's Runnin' with the Devil. Some seem too seriously recommending this cop-out way of life.
But big, blustery histronic productions like Alice and Twisted and Kiss, I always took to be tongue in cheek - cause it's so obviously overblown. Kinda see them like Marx Brothers of Rock.
Hmm, now you've got me rethinking their messages.

I know Devin Townsend is a Canadian based in British Columbia. I don't think he's a son to Pete Townsend though, he isn't a young guy, likely late 30s or early 40s. He's got graying hair so that's only a guess.
He's a bit of a busy guy, over the last 10 years he's either produced or recorded 20 albums. He's done vocals for some of Steve Vai's projects but lately he either releases albums from his "extreme" metal band, Strapping Young Lad, or his more progressive metal band, The Devin Townsend Band. Today I decided to go with the progressive metal album, which is simply fantastic, just because some of the songs are just so odd. So if you like different sounding music, I'd go with The Devin Townsend Band, and for the not so faint of heart, Strapping Young Lad (it took me a little while to appreciate his vocals for some of his songs with his SYL band, but now I adore the layering and the range of his vocals, it's astounding!).
Oh yea, and I work at a drive-thru for a bottled water/ softener salt company, Culligan. And since it's the weekend, I'm the only person in my section of the building so I can listen to what I want to on the CD player. And computer with internet access kills the boring time waiting for customers to drive up. It's rainy today too so business has been slow. Free moolah basically!

Well, here is Devin Townsend in the virtual flesh:

What a babe! Sure know how to build em in Canada!! He looks like a guy I used to date in Wyoming who was half-Swedish/half-Sioux. However, I cannot hear his music as yet because one site I found was in German and the other had the link pages to bio and songs broken. So I'll keep looking, but nothing jumped out saying Pete Townsend - so he's probably not related.

This is classic metal that just bites. 1983 was a good year, I think Priest's "Defenders of the Faith" came out then as well. Blood and Thunder by Mastodon.
Who knew you could write heavy metal music about Moby thermos? This album is crazy good, and ultra riffy. The song that easily stands out is the "epic" Heart's Alive. While all the songs on the album are under 5 minutes, this one is over 13! And it goes by quickly, with some nice melodic moments within the chaos.
Leviathan was a great album and hopefully Blood Mountain, which is coming out this year, will be just as great.

If you wanna check out an excellent "comeback" album, Judas Priest's "Angel of Retribution" is like is right up there. Original lineup (excluding the drummer since they've gone through like a bunch, their current one is the most talented on though), and that hasn't happen since 1990 when Halford left the band.
The whole CD is solid, if you don't mind a few cheesey lyrics, mainly found in the 13 minute song about the Lochness monster. Judas is Rising, Deal With the Devil, and the ballad, Angel, are the songs I would suggest you give a shot at listening to.
