Didn’t really know where to put this, but this seemed as good a place as any. So, apparently, there is a rumor going around that an official remake/remaster of Oblivion is in production. All of this sounds kinda iffy to me, but I thought I’d share it.

Here’s a link to a video about it.

That would really be interesting if they would include The Ayleid Steps and The Lost Spires mod as essential additions.
Acadian
Well, Oblivion is definitely my favorite among TES III, IV, V and I'd certainly welcome a significant facelift to it. smile.gif
Lena Wolf
Iffy indeed. Most footage is just Skyrim. I don't believe a word of it. Besides, it is no longer Oblivion.

I’m not familiar with these mods, but it’d be quite a pleasant surprise to me if they added mods as official content.

It’s not my favorite, but I would definitely be interested in a facelift as well!

Same. I’ll believe more when I see more.

Isn't Skyblivion doing this exact thing?

Not really. That is just remaking Oblivion in Skyrim’s engine. This is supposedly going to keep the original Gamebryo engine for gameplay and physics while working in tandem with Unreal Engine 5 for visuals and audio. I don’t know enough about game engines to know how this would work, but supposedly it is being done with other games. So basically, it’s regular ol’ Oblivion just prettier and sounding better. I will repeat that I’ll believe it when I see it.

With the Skyrim engine, yes. This one says it will use a blending or pairing of the Oblivion engine and the Unreal Engine 5 project. I have no idea how that can be done or what it will eventually look like.

My thought; Bethesda is going to milk Starfield for all is worth and Microsoft fearing lagging market says, "Do something, ten years is too long to wait for a new TES release".

If this remake business is true, I think that could be very likely.

I couldn't watch that video for more than a few seconds, the guy speaking is too hyper! (bla bubblblublubl bla bla bla bla bla... ) but from what I gathered, it sounds like some other studio or team got mentioned?

I'm not seeing this as an official Bethesda project; it's not their style to be involved with remakes or remasters for those older games. When they first announce a new game or project, they've been in the habit of making some sort of overt & definitive statement. Elder Scrolls VI has that teaser video, for instance. Skyrim got a remaster sure, but that's only because they made a 64 bit version of it (and secretly so...) from the get go.

Starfield's about to get released, which means they're going to be spending the next 2 or 3 years making patches & DLC for that, and then VI comes next, presumably. So IF an official Oblivion remake is going to occur, maybe it's getting subcontracted to some other studio, the way Oblivion on PS3 was handled by 4J Studios.

It's funny this thread got brought up. Next week will be my 10 year anniversary of Fallout 3! ☢

If the reports are legitimate, it definitely is being subcontracted out to a company called Virtous. I’ve never heard of them, but then, unless they are a big name or associated with something I’m interested in, I wouldn’t have. It’s not a Bethesda project, I’m sure it was instigated by Micro$oft, seeing that there maybe a market for it. That is, of course, if all of this is even true.

So then this is going to be like one of those Fallout games that got made by Obsidian. Looks similar, feels different and is full of bugs. tongue.gif

The footage that we see in that "Bethesda" video is Skyrim, pure and simple. Look at how magic works, what animations they are using, how combat works. This isn't Oblivion. An Ayleid ruin that looks like a Dwemer ruin from Skyrim? Gosh... You couldn't have a worse nightmare if you even tried. It's just a hotchpotch of Skyrim features with a subsript "Mythic Dawn Agent" on a simple Skyrim necromancer. And of course a 100% native Skyrim HUD. Is there anything left in there that is in fact Oblivion?

Personally I think that video is a hoax. Footage of modded Skyrim.

And by the way, how it looks - this isn't Unreal engine either.

It’s no hoax, the gameplay footage shown in the video is 100% from the mod, Skyblivion, which uses Skyrim’s engine with custom made assets to attemp to “recreate” Oblivion. Nobody has any footage (as far as I’ve seen) of this supposed remake, let alone any solid proof that it is actually in production. He’s just playing the Skyblivion footage in the background since that is the closest thing we have to the subject matter of the video. I don’t think he ever claimed it was actual footage from this “remake”, unless I missed something.
Lena Wolf
I see, Skyblivion certainly makes sense! I am sorry I could not get through his speech either, so turned off the sound pretty much immediately. I took the footage to be that of the new remake. My mistake.
TheCheshireKhajiit
No need to apologize! I just want to make sure everyone has the most correct information. smile.gif

As a side note, I didn’t have a problem with it, but is the guy’s speech really that bad? Lol, I’ll make sure not to link his video’s in the future.

I think it is not just speech as such, but the combination of really fast moving picture, fast speech, tiny text and trying to get the sense of it... I could only do one at a time. biggrin.gif Probably just me getting old. wink.gif
TheCheshireKhajiit
Ah, when taking it all at once I can see how that might be too much. Probably helps that I was just listening to it while working, lol

The same, this is how I feel too. The guy's all hyped up on some skooma or something. panic.gif And the gameplay's jerking all over the place like a cockroach on steroids... immediately gave me a headache.
