@Acadian - We'll see. The Blades anyway don't have a position open right now due to their inability to protect their employer... biggrin.gif

Now you need a wakizashi for indoor environments!

I think I'm done with expensive purchases for the time being rollinglaugh.gif

Wise birb is wise.

Besides, rightly handled, the katana can be used in close quarters as well.. wink.gif

It does feel nice to swing, btw. It really feels that it's made for two-handed slashing!

You do make a good point. tongue.gif Here's a relevant teaser -

As soon as we entered the Arboretum District, I noticed the distinctive armor and katana of a Blade. He was absorbed in contemplation but I recognized the Redguard’s face and drew my mare to a stop. “Baurus?”

His eyes met mine. “Well met, Buffy. I’m glad to see you unharmed.”

“Likewise, Baurus.” After a moment of awkward silence I added, “Forgive me but you seem troubled.”

He winced. “For the second time, I have failed to protect my Emperor. First Uriel and now Martin – each of them perished under my protection.”

“There are some perils no one can defend against. I have fought alongside you and would trust my life to you, brave Blade.”

His courteous smile did not reach his eyes. I tried to shift the subject somewhat. “What will happen now?”

“Well, word is the Council has declared the end of the Third Era. I suppose Chancellor Ocato will be named Potentate. As for the Blades, we will do what we have always done – serve Talos.”

“May the Divines guide your path, Baurus.”

“And yours, Buffy.”

Metatron's evaluation of The Knight of Hope, which turned me on to a most interesting channel I'd not known the existence of until now. Watched the clip (short-film) afterward. I disagree with Metratron's assessment of its opening being too long/unneeded. The lady does excellent acting, putting many big-budget actors to shame. The whole presentation is very well done. Bravo!

Guess I ought to link the film itself. Here it be, The Knight of Hope.

(These guys took part in the making of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, a solid plus in my estimation.)

Metatron has published a Top 10 Most Effective Medieval Weapons video. I'll cut to the chase and say that my personal favorite grabs first place. Got to respect a list like that. <grins> My second-favorite medieval melee weapon comes in at number nine, perfectly understandable considering the criteria he bases his evaluations on.

Poleaxes are indeed badass.

Got a new knife on Friday! It’s a Hudson Bay camp knife by El Salvadoran company Condor Tool & Knife. I already own a smaller Bushlore knife from them, but I wanted a larger knife that could serve the function of a small hatchet or tomahawk and still do some tasks that you need a knife for. Yesterday, I took it out to our future wedding site to do some work and chopped up some fallen 3-4 inch diameter branches. Some of the branches were pretty hard, but the edge stayed the same as when I got it. Also threw it at a live pine tree and got it to stick a couple of times. I’m sure if you actually know how to throw knives it would perform well, lol. The knife even comes with a nice leather sheath. All in all, very pleased with the purchase.

Thanks ‘Rocu! Being an outdoorsy diy type, I figured you would appreciate it!

Did you ever get a katana?

Heh, well I am certainly not about to go chopping ice, bull skulls, or deer antlers with it, lol

Once my fiancé and I are married, I will be living with her on her family’s land which has extensive woods on the property. I will actually have a need of such tools then!

I mean, this is an appreciation thread for melee weapons of all kinds...

Not really intended to be used as a weapon, though by its nature I suppose it could be, but I bought a hatchet. It’s a Condor Tool and Knife Woodworker Axe.The Hudson Bay Knife that I bought a few weeks ago performed satisfactorily with what I’ve put it through, but I decided I wanted an actual axe to do bigger jobs than what the knife should be used for. This one looked decent for the price, and, like most Condor products, includes a leather blade cover which some other similarly priced hatchets don’t come with. It should arrive this Saturday and if so, I’ll be able to test it out on Sunday!

Resurrecting a long-neglected but, for me at least, not forgotten thread to link this depiction of a Polish saber duel titled "Born for the Saber / Zrodzeni do Szabli - The Final Duel (Official Video)"

I enjoyed that, thanks for posting it. I typically prefer sabres to straight bladed swords. There’s just something about a curved sword, lol

If I had to pick a melee weapon real or fantasy my choice would be The Blasphemous Blade from Elden Ring.

My second choice is Maliketh's Black Blade.

These two weapons turn you into a God of Death and slayer of bosses! Came in handy during the DLC biggrin.gif .
