I mentioned a guide earlier about tweaking the enb settings, and I've now found it again. It can be found here:
http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/8005The darkness problem was much easier to solve than I initially thought, and thus kind of annoying.
Skyrim with Enb but without the Skyrim Visual mods:

Skyrim with Enb and the Skyrim Visual mods:

The difference is clear as day even in such a well-lit place as a tavern, and why I didn't try to deactivate the mods earlier is frankly beyond me. In part I suppose that is because I've been reinstalling Windows on my computer, also installing everything over again, and haven't felt like dealing with Skyrim and all the mods until now.
However, I still think that Skyrim is too bright without the Skyrim Visual mods, so I'll just have to try and tweak the enb settings to hopefully manage to find some kind of middle ground.
King Coin: Okay, I've never really used SSAO as I don't think my pc could handle it, at least with Skyrim and the mods I'm using, but it might be a good idea to try DoF that way.
mALX: I don't know how to determine whether a pc is extremely powerful, as you put it, but I'm quite certain mine is at least quite good. Thank you
King of Beasts: Thank you. I've got a gaming pc, and though I've never used the official high texture pack, I've used other mods that enhance how the game looks. When I first got the game and ran it on this pc, I could run it on the highest settings with only a little trouble, however that's not possible with the mods and enb configuration I'm now using. I did try running the Skyrim HD - 2K Textures Lite version for a while, and while it looked amazing it was rather annoying when the game stuttered rather frequently.
