5!
Kinda emberassing, but the guards killed me. I could take on a legionaire one on one if I really took my time and send my Scamp after him, but if there were more, I was dead.
My current character is level 2.

Isn't the max lvl below 80?
Since you can't get more than 100 in the skills...
unless you cheat then...

Max level is 65535. Of course, that's just the absolute maximum that few if anyone has reached without the SetLevel command. To get above 78 (the max if you start with the lowest possible skill levels and stop when all skills are at 100) you need to either visit jail a lot (skills decrease) or use the Fortify exploit when you use trainers. Basically, the latter allows you to keep buying training even when your skill's at 100 without actually raising the skill level. So you buy the skillpoints which count towards the level progress but your skills remain at 100.

Well, I have my Telina in a 102...but from that point on, I could not go further...I used powerfull drain skiull spells, and trined before it wore off...that was in the end though...hehe, but it is not cheating though....I have played Telina in about two years...so it takes a LOOOOOONG time.

Heh, Luper has maxed out at level 23 before I started new characters. He wiped the floor with everything. Even Golden Saints, Dagoth Ur and the like fell within three hits.

Most impressive of all, this was without any real boost from enchantments or Adrenaline Rush. Redguards are like the gods of the battlefield.

Hey, don't worry. It took a week for me to get to level 2 and a month to reach 6. After a while, your character seems to hit the turbo's as far as levelling is concerned. Read books, there are a ton that give you a skill. Before you know it, you'll hit twenty and make Dagoth Ur look like a powerless child.
And best of all, your level doesn't really matter. So some people have got higher hitpoints cause they're at a higher level. Who cares, as long as you're having fun everything is fine.

Level 48, without finishing Morrowind and Tribunal completely (but with finishing Bloodmoon) so I venture I could have gained a higher level if it wasn't that the game gets boring after level 25.

My Highest lvl was 50 with my Dark Elf character Joncis. I played with that guy on and off for several years to get him to that point though. I don't play Morrowind anymore because I've explored every inch of the island, finished all the quests at some point or another, and I've found every artifact that wasn't quest related.

Eh, I got up around 115+ on MW (including both Trib and Bloodmoon), though I don't know if that counts since my skills all maxed at 78, so I used 'Drain Skill' spells to move higher.

To be honest when you reach 30+ the game just gets too easy and everything dies quite quickly. For example I saved the mages guild quest until I was about lvl 20 because I thought it'd give me a good run for my money, but crazyass Mannimarco comes at me with a flimsy dagger, three bursts from my trusty Mage's Staff of Shock and that was all it took. And that's with the difficulty on default.
And what's with the dark brotherhood end quest? It was so easy I actually got bored.

Voted 40-60
My Oblivion character has now stopped at lvl 50 but my Morrowind character is currently at lvl 57 and still going. He has all attributes maxed at 100 except Endurance and Luck and I guess he could go up to at least lvl 70 as he has many skills still well under max. WeŽll see but IŽll probably have to change my vote later!

Edit: Except you apparently canŽt do that

Well I basically was playing a build from a guide, this was long before Oblivion, and I pretty much treated it as a hack and slash game
I keep meaning to go back and take a proper run or two at it, just can't seem to break free of Oblivion for long enough.

I've had characters up to about 53 in Oblivion, when they maxed out all their major skills. I tend to cap them around 26-27 with unused majors these days, as that allows all possible creatures up to Lich to appear. Higher levels don't change the game much beyond making Goblin Warlords take forever to kill. Despite the usual criticism of the Oblivion level system, it's quite amenable to player control.
Skyrim characters haven't reached their peaks yet, so too soon to report. Only Fleur is likely to keep going, the others were rolled for testing. Perks in specific skills seem to be more important than overall level, which has few apparent effects. In particular, it appears to be possible to hit the same defence cap with any armour if you boost your Smithing skill enough. Leather (much improved) > Daedric (base level)! It appears the same is true for weapons, and a well-honed steel axe will do more damage than a fearsome-looking daedric one, too. I haven't figured out what the enemy levels do, but I suspect they cap, and the game will plateau.
Daggerfall characters didn't go past about 20. At that point they'd done all the MQ, and most of the non-random others. Player level doesn't seem to change the game much here, either. Armour/weapons at top level are available to any level of player if they find them, and that makes more difference than skill, which soon catches up. Higher levels make better loot likely, so it's not all flat, but you get to the plateau fast.
Morrowind - my first character (on my new laptop) hasn't had his first level-up yet! He may get wiped if I install a new OS to replace win 8.
Arena was just too frustrating to play for long. Extrapolating from Daggerfall backwards, I get the impression that it would get easier as you progress to higher levels, or get better equipment.

She has been in a couple other games before Oblivion, but not TES games. So many games and so little time - aggravated the fact that if I like a game, I go all monogamous on it for 5-10 years.

I have a spellsword in Skyrim who got somewhere in the 50s with leveling. Oblivion it's much lower: somewhere in the late teens is the highest I've gotten.

In Skyrim I have gotten characters into the low forties. None of them have ever reached 50.
In Oblivion it was the upper twenties, something like 28 or 29.
I cannot remember Morrowind, probably only in the teens.

Skyrim is weird. The Mighty Khahkhayre (spellsword) is the one who got into the 50s, yet I only gamed with him for a couple months. In comparison, I've been gaming with Lord Haaf-Mersey for over a year, yet he's only at 47.
I'll never understand how some gamers manage to get to the max of 81 (81, right?) within a few weeks of gaming back when Skyrim was new. Guess they don't have jobs or lives.

As demands for experience points grow immensely once you pass the 20s in Arena, my bet is that my Nord is gonna stay at level 25 whenever he reaches it. Beyond that.... well, no matter what he does heŽs never gonna get enough XP for level 26
