Wow, I leave for a week and find out that the coffee shoppe has only been used ONCE since I left. What is this world coming to!
Anyways, my trip to the Bahamas went really well for the most part. With all trips, there's usually a couple of setbacks or annoyances but I won't bother in discussing them. I do recommend bringing sunblock if you plan on going there. It's quit warm there for April weather.
Now here's the fun part, catching up on a week's worth of forum posting!

Well, partially I'm still figuring out what goes and what does not go on this thread, topic-wise ... plus the last few days have been intensely filled with writing and revising my current fanfic. Only today have I taken a break from it.

I did get a little sunburnt, but it was all these weird spots. Like I ended up burning the top of my feet and my shins the first day, then later on I burnt the back of my hands, and on the second last day I burnt my right elbow. Fortunately they weren't seriously sore burns, the ones of my legs were only a little uncomfortable when I used the hottub at first.

I never peel off the dead skin. I tried once when I was young, but I pulled a bit of live skin too and that hurt. So I've never done it again.

Oh yea, and sorry for going dead just as soon as I got back. My modem at home has gone on the fritz again, and the internet provider said it would take 48 hours to fix the issue. So hopefully soon I'll be able to get back into my regular posting frenzy that I typically do. Until then, I'll just have to settle with surfing the internet while at work.
Oh yea, my robotics team finished 4th in our entire province! We're pretty happy with our results considering that we were the best robot that could only carry one soccer (football) ball at a time. The robots that place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd were robots that could carry 2 balls at a time, which allowed them to score more points. If we got lucky, we could've gotten 3rd, but the robot that started breaking down in the finals played in the gold medal game. Ohwell, I still got on TV for an interview about it today.

That's outstanding, Mallet! In another life, I would have enjoyed working with electric motors and circuit boards and logic programming- maybe.
With my north European heritage (Irish), I am definitely in the burn and peel category. When I used to fool around with boats, I was dumb enough to wear cut-off shorts a few times. Note to the wise- if you sit on the seat of a canoe for 3 or 4 hours in the middle of a lake in July, wearing cut-offs- you will get a nasty burn on your knees, the tops of your thighs, and the tops of your feet. Sun-block is NOT optional for pale-skinned, blonde-haired, blue-eyed people.
Catching up. Finished teaching my class- grades will go in today. So I just have my regular job for the summer.... Maybe I can read and participate here more often. Then again, they asked me to teach the Comp. I class again this fall, plus an American Lit. class. So summer may be spent reminding myself that there was something to American Lit. from 1500-1860 besides Hawthorne and Melville.
"The Scarlet Letter? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?"
Maybe there is something about Juan Pardo- after all, he made it into TN- and it appears that the so-called "Melungeons" are descended from some of his Portuguese crew members. Mainly, I want to make it fun. Right, good luck with that.

Oh yea, that has happened to me once when I was golfing. Seriously sore burn on the back of my neck, one of the worse places to get it. I'm the pale skinned, fair coloured hair, and blue eyed type people as well so I understand a lot of what you guys are saying.
I also appreciate all the congratulations you guys are making. At the moment, I am considering going into something that involves robotics or something specific to electrical technology. I've been accepted to a private college that specifically focuses on technology stuff like that so that's going to be really helpful. It also might give me some other ideas on what to do.
One part of the course is a huge project that you work on during the final two semesters of the course. My Registar mentioned one project that basically tests if you have actually suffered whiplash. The machine itself I believe basically a little game that you use you chin/head to control. The machine monitors your movements and the pressure you exert on the machine. Supposedly, if you don't actually suffer from whiplash, your head actually doesn't have control over the pressure you exert onto the machine and it'll catch that. If I remember correctly, the people who made the machine were currently trying to get a patent for it because they'll make millions off of it since insurance companies would love to own machines like this. Guess it pays off to have parents who are chiropractors.

The insurance companies (and the courts) here in the US would really love that invention. With the insane number of lawsuits piling up in the courts, it might be nice to have one more way to get things resolved quickly.
Congrats to Mallet on the robotics thing (hopefully one more of these congrats won't send you over the edge)

I've observed that Star Wars fans seem to be the most rabid.

The actual Harry Potter
books (up until the most recent) were actually rather good.

Hmm, I presonally must say I've gotten bored with Harry. To me it always feels like exactly the same thing. Exactly the same schedule each year. (Yeah, it is a school but still.)
1: Harry is bored during summer and avoiding his family. Lucky him, an excuse arrives that has him leave earlier than planned.
2: Have a pre-school encounter with his rival. Talk trash a bit.
3: Have antics with his teachers. (Ok, I actually like this part. Nothing better than Snape doing his thing.)
4: Mysterious killings/woundings. Harry wants to stay out of it but surprise, it turns out to be another Voldemort thing.
5: Harry is told to stay in his room but goes out by himself (possibly making things worse.)
6: In true villain fashion, Voldemort or his lackey is defeated by a child with an exceptional amount of luck or by the arrival of a powerful friend.
7: Win a couple prices, then go home for summer.
That said, before I got bored I liked it so it's not a bad series. Just too similar all the time.
And Star Wars fans, you should see the Star Trek fans. What are they called, Trekkies and Warsies? Those two are quite at each other's throats on the internet. Always analyzing their respective series technology and stuff and then pointing out how their side would beat the other. There are some ridiculous estimates there. I honestly stay out of there. Too volatile for me. An example from each side.
Trek: Borg can adapt to anything. ANYTHING. Real fast as well. You might hit one cube but the next few hundred are going to be invincible. (Ignoring the fact that cubes tend to operate alone and that the adapting is not perfect. Warsies like to point out that Voyager was a Borg-killing machine while Trekkies point out the super-Borg from First Contact and Wolf-something.)
Wars: A single Stardestroyer can remove the surface of a planet in one/several hours. Nothing can escape this method known as base delta zero. (Ok, so what is the whole purpose of the Death Star then? I know the Emperor was overcompensating for something but still. Making a giant pingpongball that can do the same thing as a Stardestroyer only a bit quicker and a hell lot more expensive is stupid. Yeah, removing the surface is not the same as blasting the whole planet to bits. The first is overdoing it, the second is excessively overdoing it.)

That's exactly the point. The weapon was supposed to be so powerful (or overpowered) in its destructive capabilities that it would scare absolutely everyone into submission.

May 6 2007, 07:31 PM
Bah, just stick with accelerating asteroids to ridiculous relative velocities and smacking planets with them. Just as good and a lot less visible than a giant pingpongball. (Giant pingpongball, I like that nickname.)
And what exactly is the Lexx? I searched around for a bit but all I found was this big bug thing without wings. Don't tell me that bug is the Lexx? That would be the most gross looking weapon ever!
Lord Revan
May 6 2007, 07:50 PM
What about the Rings in Halo? It only takes
seven of them to wipe out all life in
one galaxy. Just imagine what fifty could do?
jack cloudy
May 6 2007, 07:58 PM
Fifty? Offscale genocide, man!
Ok, let's get serious. Annihilating all life in the universe is just about the ultimate show of power below destroying all matter in the universe. But let's face it, it's too much. With that kind of power, you would end up killing yourself as well. So I stick with asteroids and fat engines. They're much more selective.
And I read about that flood thing. So were the Halo builders machines or something? If so, they might dodge the blow so to speak which renders my earlier argument worthless. Aha, I disprove my own arguments, so that's why I always get such low scores in debating in Dutch class.

(Why would I need debating anyway? I'm not going into politics.)

I watched the new Spiderman film yesterday (actually had good seats for it too!) and it was pretty good. The ending was a bit weak unfortunately, but I found the action sequences to be really cool looking. Also, "evil" Peter Parker is pretty funny. I would say it's worth seeing at the theatre.
And yea, the new POC is coming out at the end of May. Like all this month a new blockbuster is coming out. Shrek 3, Pirates, Rush Hour 3 is coming out soon, and there Oceans 13 coming out at the start of June. Movie goers are going to be extremely happy for awile.
