Oh, evil monsters. They need to receive the touch of a sword. A sharp sword made of the most exotic and powerful materials available. Add a good load of magical stuff to the mix and they'll scream for mercy. I do hope that Revan will be fine. Somehow I've got the feeling that Rhys will only manage to distract him when she shows up.
Lord Revan
Revan part 2: Jail Break #2

Rhys had never been in a position of authority or leadership, but she hoped she was worthy of her companion's faith. Kartah had given her a powerful railgun/ sniper rifle, which fired a sliver of charged paticles at exterme velocity, and she still had her double-edged energy blade for close-quarters. She wore her normal atire, but some light armor over it. The armor was similar to chitin and bonemold, but less bulky and more light-- it was colored matte-black for stealth purposes. Kartah had her assault rifle, a shotgun, and--should push come to shove--a wrist-mounted bayonet. She was an accomplished security specialist and opted to take the role of tech expert. Xarkum held a small carbine, and an additional bag of amunition for everyone else. Both High Naryyn were in full armor, but weren't diffacult to tell apart. Darhun wore his armor and hefted some large, unwieldy contraption on his shoulder. He identified it as a duel heavy weapon system-- it functioned a a powerful autocannon and an anti-armor piece. Nara holstered twin pistols--which fired a pulse laser-- on her hips and donned a black bodysuit. Rhys still felt uneasy about bringing her into the middle of this, but Darhun was right-- she needed to see the real world. Kartah and Darhun supplied everyone with several small handheld explosives-- the dark grenades were similar to other Dark Naryyn devices-- powered by arcane energy (fire, ice, and electricity). The High Naryyn version contained some extremly combustable chemicals, and a freezing substance called liquid nytrogen.
They found a ship-- and a willing captain-- in Seyda Neen to take them to Sosthiem-- where she felt Revan was. They were all forced to endure the torture of waiting as the ship slowly made its way to the frozen island.

High Naryyn prison compound......

The cell conditions weren't what Revan was worried about right now, but rather on the..... jail apparal. The guards had left him in his armor (of that he was thankful), but had attached restraining devices to his wrists, ankles, and neck. Though not restraining movement, they stopped him from concentrating (therefore restraining his powers) and that was a problem. It also interfeared with coming up with another scheme of escape. He had yet to be removed from his cell, so sneaking away wasn't an option. All the while the spirit's word whirled through his mind, as well as the question, "how do you know who I am?"
Eventually Revan began to meditate, mostly to pass the time........

Surrush paced about a deserted hallway followed by his bond-brother, The High Naryyn had captured the one called Revan. That could be good and bad news, bad because it had not been expected that they would actually capture him. But it could bode well, because it could excellerate his race's agenda. Most of their enemies would be in one place and could be destroyed together. Still it meant a drastic change of plans, so Surrush an his brother would have to move fast to implement them. They rushed deeper into the natural tunnels of the base. They would win, they would succeed! They had to.....

Revan slowly opened his eyes, all he remembered was that he had been meditating when he suddenly was knocked out. He was laying face down on the floor of some intersection of crisscrossing corridors. Hauling himself up he reailized that his restraints were gone, his blades were beside his feet, and a message hung suspended in the air infront of him.

Revan,

Down the hallway, around the corner is another cell block. It's well guarded, but Lord Xaries is in this area. The guards are mostly natives that have been enslaved to our will, I regret that our reunion couldn't have been on better circumstances.

With love,

Perplexed by the message, but eager to continue, Revan pressed on. Around the bend, there was a bulk head, it opened at his approach. A mob of Argonians carrying spears and pikes turned to glance at him. Revan rushed through their cluster slashing both his swords. He sliced arms, legs, and burned flesh with great proficiency, and ease. Though many, the slaves were unskilled and had all but lost creative thinking. As the last one fell, Revan leaped up to a catwalk, and found Xaries in one of the far left cells. He looked to be in bad shape, but was thankfully alive and kicking. Xaries favored him with a surprised look, but turned sober in an instant. "Coming here alone was reckless and unwise." He scolded sternly. "At least tell me you brought back up" "I'm afraid not, Norik gave orders to his men to take only me alive. No one else knows where this place is. It was the only plan, we had." Xaries nodded, "heard that too, but you should have found another --safer way, but thanks anyway. I wouldn't take this over another month in here." Revan helped him walk, but just as the reached the bottom of the stairway four armed Naryyn guards emerged from the bulkhead.......
The Metal Mallet
And the jail break commences. And the Honour Guards are rushing their plans, oh noes!!!

I need more!
Lord Revan
I was only able to type a short post tonight, but I'll right the rest tommarow

Revan part 2/ chapter 11: Escape/ Ancient Aid

The four guards spotted Revan and Xaries; three leveled their rifles, but the fourth rolled behind a crate. Revan dropped Xaries and burst toward the guards. The three hostile soldiers fired a great stream of energy, but Revan dodged and deflected a few with his twin energy swords. Xaries grabbed a grenade from one of the mind slaves and tossed it into the enemy formation. The guards tried to scatter, but were still caught in the blast. Xaries, Revan and the third guard put them to rest. The surviving guard saluted to both of them. "I'm sorry for the confusion my lord, but most of us troopers are mixed in alliagences. I decided not to desert, before now." The soldier explained. Xaries replied, "It's all right soldier, you did what seemed to be the smartest stratagy at the time. But I think our dark brother might have a safe haven for us." "Yes, there is a settlement on the island of Vardenfell. It's under the large volcano in the center." Revan answered. The High Naryyn officer nodded, "I'll gather the other defecters and then travel to this base." the officer saluted once more, and charged down the corridor and disappeared.
Xaries opened a small box on the floor, and retrieved a capsule with a mask attached. He inhaled deeply with it, and his skin recovered some of its former gold luster. He also consumed a small packet of some kind of rations. "This is a medpack, filled with some othe the things nessasary to revitalize someone in critical condition." Revan understood and grabbed a couple more scattered across the floor, and stored them in his backpack.

High Naryyn HQ.......

The entire base was on high alert, it had all started when Narik had recieved the news that revan had been captured alive and was currently in custody. Norik had sent the orders for the treacherous demon to be brought here. But things started to collapse since then. Word had come minutes later that one of the 'evolved' Naryyn guards had freed the trouble maker. Why something like that would happen, was inconcievable.
Lord Revan

Revan part 2/ Chapter 11(cont.): Escape......

Rhys glanced around the corridor, and waved the others through. They had entered the base and avoided
detection. Oddly, there didn't seem to be many guards. Nara had sensed some unknown creatures along the way. Darhun and Kartah silently entered the room and confirmed it was clear. The group cautiously made their way through the hallway. There was close to no light in the recent passages, so the group relied on the three Dark Naryyn for their vision.
When they reached a locked bulkhead, Kartah retrieved a small computer keypad, and spoofed the lock. The red light turned green, signaling that the door was unlocked. The inflitrators slowly continued deeper into the base....

Revan and Xaries had encountered no resistence since the liutenent and his three fellows. The lights were out on the deeper levels, and due to Drak Naryyn night vision, Xaries was forced to follow Revan's lead. But Revan wished he couldn't see some of the things in the halls. Deep scratch marks, and dark patches of blood adorned these walls. Xarkum and the other deserters had been frightened by the Dark Naryyn's mere presense. Now Revan had a hint of how they had felt. These marks could only have been made by a large predator, large enough to be lethal. Some of the claw abrasions streched a foot in length, and were two centimeters deep. And those walls were made of stronger materials than cement, or the rocks used by the other races. Xaries was edgy, but he couldn't possibly see the signs of battle........ and death. For some reason there were no bodies, or even drag marks. But there were pieces of High Naryyn battle armor littering the floor.
After a few more minutes of walking, Revan heard a barely audible noise. Xaries must have heard it too, because he also paused. The sound came again, hiisshhh. It had to be the same thing that had made those marks and blood stains. Revan searched the chamber for the source of the noise, the noise came again, but more insistently. HISSSHHH Try as he might, Revan could not pierce the veil of shadows. Xaries whispered, "Can you see anything, Revan?"
"No," He replied. "The darkness seems to almost shield, whatever this thing is."
"There were signs, weren't there? In the corridor?" he asked. "I heard the guards talking before you freed me. They said something, or things, attacked the lower areas. The guards put them in lockdown, hoping to trap them." Xaries whispered, his voice edged with fear.
Revan continued to search for the creatures. "Yes, there were claw marks on the walls, and bloodstains. But I couldn't find bodies...... there were fragments of armor though." A shadow moved and burst toward them, before vaulting. It shriecked, and tackled Revan. He was knocked off his feet, and felt a large, sharp object pierce through his armor. Spittle splashed over his visor, as the monster shriecked......

The Metal Mallet
Another new creature, and this one seems quite lethal. Hopefully Revan can pull of a victory or at least escape.

I wonder where this creature came from though...?
Lord Revan

Well, MM, this new beast is a complete monster. The next installment will be very violent, and creepy........ Also Revan and Rhys will learn a little about their bond. And a few other questions will be answered. Possibly Revan's origens...... laugh.gif
Lord Revan

ok, the time draws near for some revelations...... smile.gif

Revan part 2/ chapter 12: Revelation

Rhys paced slowly as Kartah messed with the lock on yet another bulkhead. They'd been walking for close to ten minutes now. But two minutes ago Darhun and Nara had began to feel the cold that flowed throughout the lower area of the base. Rhys was now feeling it too, it emanated from beyond the doorway that Kartah was tinkering with. Niether Xarkum or Kartah had sensed the presense of this place, they only had a bad feeling. Rhys guessed it was that High Naryyn lacked the connection to the supernatural that was darkness.
Xarkum was providing light via his armor's spotlamp. It was more for Kartah, than for Rhys and the others. The pressure door gave a beeping sound and slid open...... Almost on cue, a bloodcurdling shriek came from the new passagway...... The group rushed into the dark corridor, weapons at the ready. They had been lucky before, but now something big was ahead of them. Rhys (the fastest and least burdened) sprinted ahead, but without warning pain stabbed through her body........

Revan and Xaries......

Revan could hardly see through his pit covered visor, but he knew the thing was right on top of him. It rammed a blade-like appendage through his armor's cuirass area, his vision went hazy with the sudden pain. He could feel the blade in his gut, and the creature wasn't holding it still either. His torso was burning along the spinal region. Revan thrust his sword upward at the monster, through the spit he saw the energy beam slide along the beast's carapace rather than impale it. But the glancing blow caused the creature to jup off him. Blood and agony erupted as the blade withdrew from the wound.
Xaries loosed a blast of light and energy, whigh struck the thing head on. Its form was temporally revealed in the light. It was a giant biped, two and a half meters tall. The creature was hulking and burly, and its head resembled a House Telvanni bonemold helm. It had four slits for eyes, and its 'mouth' was made up of two curving mandibles. Rather than skin or fur, it was covered in armored carapace. The hands had three fingers, each ending with a sharp claw.
While a devastating attack, Xaries was still weak from his captivity, and the creature's carapace seemed to reflect and disperse the incoming blast. It gave its characteristic shriek and its back opened to reveal two vaguely transendent wings. Like a giant beetle, Revan thought glumly.
It launched into the air, and dived at Xaries, but despite a rapidly bleeding hole in his chest, Revan jumped and takled the beast. Both slammed into the floor, but the thing recovered first and fully impaled Revan with its long claws. It turned and threw him across the room. Revan hit the ground, tumbled, and colided with a wrecked High Naryyn tank...

Rhys had only felt the afliction for a moment before it just dissappeared. There wasn't any injury visible, and it did nothing to hinder their progress. But in a quiet corner of Rhy's mind, she knew that the wound was real, it was real for Revan. The group rounded the bend, and saw a large insectoid creature, Xaries on the far side, and a crumpled form lying beside some wreckage. The beast turned toward the newcomers, and roared a challenge. Rhys shouldered the railgun instantly and fired; the supersonic round hit dead-center on the thing's head, but fragmented in a shower of glowing slivers. Everyone else opened up in the creature; Darhun filled the air with repeater fire, while the High Naryyn loosed energy blasts and small-arms fire. But blasts were dispersed, solid rounds pinged off the beast's carapace. It was clear that their weapons and powers were useless against this opponent, but the creature couldn't move at all. Suddenly Darhun stopped firing, and his weapon glowed in the din. He crouched and aimed carefully, and a huge blob of plasma erupted from his gun. The smear struck its target in the chest, and there was a resounding BANG.......

The Metal Mallet
Hmmm, I wonder what is going to happy to the creature. I hope Revan is ok as well. Hopefully Rhys would feel alot more pain for a longer moment if he was dead. Hopefully we find out in the next update.

You're leaving me biting my nails here. This revelation you spoke of must deal with this connection between Rhys and Revan. It's an interesting one I'd have to say, it'll be interesting to see the reason why they have this connection.
Lord Revan
I will add more later cool.gif

Information post-

Creatures-

Vaargukie (Far-guhk-eye)- A large instectoid beast, nine feet (three meters) tall. It is a carnivor, and a lethal predator; its glass like carapace can disperse incoming energy and deflect small arms fire. They are strong, tough, and capable of flight in normal gravity conditions. A dreaded opponent, they can grab and carry any object that wieghs roughly one hundred kilos. Though not capable of sentient level intellect, they can be very cunning. One typical attack pattern is for a Vaargukie, is to lauch itself into the air and slam into its prey (anything unfortunate enough to encounter one) with the force of a 25mph car crash.

High Naryyn weapons

Railguns- a powerful, long barreled rifle. It is similar to our sniper rifles, but rather that a bullet, it fires a sliver of metal that is overcharged with a nuetron charge, which discharges on impact in reaction with positively/ negatively charged objects.

Assault Rifles- advanced variant of our modern day assualt weapons, but (like the railgun) fires energized rounds (in place of bullets). They feature small grenade launchers just below the barrel. While catagorized as hand held gun, it is bulky (can't be wielded in one hand) and inaccurate at semi-long range.

Grenades-

Dark grenades are essentailly glass spheres that can be filled with raw 'blood' energy. Arcane in nature, they can be made to float, stick, or detonate at will.

High grenades are futuristic versions of of our hand-held explosives of today. They contain napalm, nitrogen, or fuel air combustables. The lesser know 'fuel air' grenades release a cloud of flamable gasses.

jack cloudy
Ouch and double ouch. Nasty bugger. I take it that it is not native to Nirn? (Please tell me it's not. These things would make the Oblivion crisis look like a little pebble dropped into the ocean.)
Lord Revan

well rest assured Jack, these things aren't native to Nirm. But we'll be seeing more of them in the future.
They're roughly larger than a Deadroth
Lord Revan
ok, here's a short update for you all.

Revan part 2/ chapter 12(cont.): Revelations

The creature was blasted to pieces by Darhun's anti-armor weapon. Ozone filled the air (as many of the pieces were burning). Everything became a blur to Rhys after that. She had rushed over to the crumpled shape that she knew was Revan. There was two large gashes in his mid torso, one had an exit wound. Blood was flowing from the wounds; if it couldn't stop he would bleed to death. She hastily reviewed all her knowledge of healing, and brought all her will to bear.
She felt more connected to him than ever before, for some reason there was an actual bond between them. More than that she felt a great affection for Revan. Her hands glowed as she began to regenerate all the damaged flesh, muscle, and bone. She was vaguely aware that Nara and Darhun were kneeling beside her adding there power to the ordeal of healing.
First the blood slowed and eventually stopped seeping out the wound. Then the internal and external flesh began to appear and bond together. And finally the skin over the wounds was whole again, but the scar tissue would always be bleached white. As the immediate danger passed Rhys suddenly felt weak and exhausted. And aware of the bond she and Revan shared. It used to be illusive and subtle until this had happened. Though powerful it was not born of an emotional attachment. It has always been there, she realized.
Xaries helped her up and gave her a stern look of slight dissaproval, but his gaze softened and he gave her a sympathetic squeeze on her shoulder. "It's all right, he'll make it." Though it was unnessary she appreciated the gesture. Darhun's expression was hidden beneath his helmet, it struck her how similar it was to Revan's, but he also exuded understanding and sympathy.

Darhun and Xarkum elected to carry Revan, and the group moved through another set of pressure doors.
Rhys suddenly became aware of the comradery the two different men shared with Revan, Xarkum was in the worst state, but was a mask of grim determination. The cavernous chamber was gigantic, almost as wide as Vivec in Morrowind, and as tall as a single canton. Kartah split away from the group to see if there was anything they could use, and Xaries took point.
They spotted her a few minutes later standing beside a large land rover. It was still functioning, and was in premium condition. Kartah was a fountain of calm confidence as she strapped into the driver's seat and gracefully typed the nessasary ignition codes. She might as well have been a loving mother tending to her little infant. It was odd, Rhys couldn't relate to the reversal of human affection and utility ettiquette. Still, the vehicle's engine roared to life and burst out of the hanger bay. Suddenly the air was filled with insect wing buzzing, and more creatures swarmed to pursue their prey. But suddenly the chamber shook in responce to a megaton of IEDs going off by remote detonation, and the rover cleared the debris and drove into the upper tunnels free at last.
The Metal Mallet
Sweet, a daring escape and Revan looks like he's going to come through. I also appreciate the mention of the bond between him and Rhys, it'd be neat to see how much more indepth that bond is.

Continue please!
Lord Revan
I told you all I would add more wink.gif laugh.gif the next few updates will be packed with new things for information posts. For instance I plan to introduce High Naryyn starfighters and could it be? A battle ship!!! Also more about the origins of Revan, also some allies appear, and the Honor Guards are coming ohmy.gif wacko.gif

Oh and which of all the cast and characters of this story are your favorites?
The Metal Mallet
I'll say Norik, because he's got that arrogant bad-guy touch to him, and Revan because of he's got a slick personality I think.

Hopefully I don't confuse all the characters that start with X but I also like the sympathetic High Narynn, Xaries. Hopefully that's the right one. tongue.gif

Revan part 2/ chapter 12: The War Begins

From- Talament Station (Fleet HQ)

To- All Naval personel on planet 1684

Priority- Bravo

Subject- Incoming hostiles

Summary- Be advised brothers, we've noted a lot of ships moving toward your rock without authorization in the last half hour. These vessels include 15 frigates, 5 battleships, and 1 cruiser. The battleships contain 35 snub fighters and 20 dropships each; not to metion the firepower to level half the continent your currently sitting on. We have a small battlegroup in transit to your postition; to offer support.

Side note- We're not sure if this is connected, but several key hierarchs have gone missing; as well as their honor guards.

<<<end transmission>>>

Norik was shocked by the contents of the message from command. Could my honor guards not be the only ones going rogue? He couldn't find an answer, and that sent a chill down his spine. This transmission brought forth the dreaded possibility of fighting a war on two fronts. But at least help was on the way.
The glacier was now extremly close to the island. Norik typed up the proper commands, and the screen in front of him changed to show the hiding place of their prey. And the two battle ships hovering 5,000 feet above their target. Of course they couldn't just bombard the piece of rock into submission, but they would make a fine two-ship blockade. A small sea-faring vessel attempted to approach the island, compared to a single warships weaponry it was fire wood. The closest ship aimed at the small intruder...... twenty brilliant flashes of light erupted from The Dominance. The little boat was vaporized, along with most of the water around it.
There was a rap on the door, and Norik turned to open it. Ankrus, one of Norik's most experienced military officers, came through and saluted smartly. "Sir, I've recieved the last report from our prison on Sosthiem." Norik appreciated the man's competence, he can even pronounce these blasted native's names. "Good, what is the situation?"
"Well sir, many officers were killed by some creature in the lowest levels. Most of the others deserted, and we have no idea where the captives, the honor guards, or the deserters are." Ankrus said grimly. "So, we're mostly in the dark." Norik asked, "Shall we dig in now?"

Rhys......

The tunnels were definitely rising toward the surface. Rays of sunlight were slowly becoming visible. Xarkum, Kartah, and Xaries were in the control area, while the Dark Naryyn were occuping the mid and aft-sections of the scout vehicle. Rhys sat beside Revan, who was lying in one of the bunks. Nara settled down beside her, and both lightly embrced each other.
When they had been in the Marhun Kar village, Revan had vaguely summarized his upbringing. Where Rhys had a father in Barrick, Revan had grown up without any strong family ties, or even good friends. And so he had trouble relating to Rhys' maternal indulgences with Nara. But it seemed he had florished in his childhood, but Rhys couldn't imagine all those years in Bravil without Barrik to offer some humorous story or piece of wisdom. Maybe it was for the best, Revan had resited relationships, and maybe that made him immune to loss and moral delimas. Revan seemed uncomfortable around Nara, but that was easy to understand, it was unlikely to be envy. So that left the fact that Nara was Hursho-Vernah/Blood-Seers, one of the mostly extinct tribes of Dark Naryyn left behind. Suddenly she felt some strange sensation through her bond with Revan.......

-----

Revan slowly opened his eyes, and beheld a cloud-covered landscape. The sky was gray and the land was bleak and flat. He could just make out a structure in the distance; the place had an allure to it, and there wasn't anywhere else to go. After several minutes of running, he approached the gates to the castle/ temple-like building. The doors opened on their own, and as Revan walked through them, closed.
The corridor lead to a courtyard, and in the courtyard were two altars...... As Revan neared them, two figures appeared on the platforms. One was the grey 'spirit' from Valenwood, and the other was the gold one from the prison......

-----

Rhys was about to investigate the disturbance, when the scout transport leaped out of the cavern. The rover landed with a muffled thud in the snow. Through the windshield, everyone could see an emmense tundra. It seemed like they were in a huge valley, but there was only one exit, which was across from their current position. Kartah drove the vehicle like a pro, and they were halfway to the exit........

Surrush.....

The ex-honor guard took a deep breath of the crisp, cool air of Sosthiem. They-wait, no he- was leading a group of his brothers toward the future battlezone. It was hard to give up individuel thinking When he and his bond brother reported to their immediate superiors, they had been rewarded new power for the war. This was brought about by their lords fusing them together; it had been done many times in the history of their race. He was one of the many fusions leading the individuels into battle.
Suddenly his sensitive ear (actually an auditory meatus) picked up the sound of an engine over the howling wind. He turned and looked downward, and spotted the source, a lone High Naryyn scout vehicle. Well the wars had, technically, started, so with deliberate slowness Surrush raised his twin staffs and loosed a great blast of energy......

The Metal Mallet
Uh-oh, looks like Rhys and friends are going to run into some trouble. Hopefully they can either flee or somehow defeat them, but I'm thinking it's going to be the former.

Nice update.
Lord Revan

Ok guys, here's a short post. biggrin.gif

-------

Revan part 2/ chapter 12 (cont):

The rover caught some air and bounced on its heavy suspention, as it began to climb, the hill exploded. the scout vehicle was thrown backward, hit the ground, and rolled until it came to a halt on its side. Rhys shakely got up from the wall that she'd slammed into. Slowly the others began to get back on their feet, no one appeared critically injured. Nara (the only one that hadn't been wearing armor) had several small bruises, and there was a large cut running along her right cheek, starting at the chin and going up to her cheekbone. It was pretty deep, and was blood wept from its length. Rhys naturally went over to her first, to heal it, the skin regenerated quickly, it wasn't as serious as Revan's- Rhys realized she hed forgotten about Revan, and the fact that he wasn't consious. She hasitly evaluated Nara's cut, it wasn't anything to worry about, but Nara would always have that scar. But that wasn't an immediate concern, Rhys searched the mid-cabin for Revan. He was lying face-down against a set of weapon lockers, across from the bunk.

Revan had been in the middle of a dream, when suddenly it felt like he'd been thrown of the edge of a Sigil Keep...... and hit solid ground. He slowly began to wake up, and extreme pain greeted him. His head hurt the most, and he was still seeing black........ When it didn't go away, Revan realized his helmet was facing a different direction than his head, he was looking through the side of his helm. Ignoring the pain in his limbs, Revan managed to get a good grip on his mask-helm and pulled it back into alignment. Through the visor, a series of long cases were visible. Revan rolled over and took in the scene; Rhys was lying beside him breathing heavily, Nara was nursing a white scar running down the right side of her face, Xarkum was helping Kartah up, but she pulled too hard and caused him to lose his balance. Darhun was wrestling his helmet back in position, and Xaries ducked through a small bulkhead. There was the distinct odor of smoke in the air, and the floor was cluttered with a whole manner of things. Revan looked over at Rhys, "Could you explain to me what's going on?" She shakily nodded, "We managed to escape the prison, and were on our way back to Vardenfell." Rhys wiped away a patch of blood from her face. "But something knocked over our transport." Darhun and Xaries wrestled another bulkhead open and a flurry of snow blew into the rover. We must still be in Sosthiem, he thought sourly.
"Are you hurt Rhys?" He asked her. She paused for a moment, "No, I'm fine just sore." Rhys hesitated for a moment, "And you?" Revan shrugged, but winced as pain lanced through his body. "I don't know what happened to me, but I think I can fight." Xarkum and Kartah finally managed to get back on their feet. "Good," Kartah muttered. "At least we don't have to carry you anymore."
Everyone climbed out of the smoking wreckage, and surveyed the landscape. There was a hill- actually a crater- severall meters to the right, wisps of smoke and clouds of steam wafted from its center. Xaries pointed to a small gap between the walls of ice that surrounded the valley. "That's where we need to go to get out of here," He yelled over the howling wind. There was a blood-chilling shriek that pierced the blizzard, Revan looked up....... On top of on of the cliffs, stood a towering creature it held two long six foot staff in each hand. The monster had to be ten feet tall, it had heavy looking armor, and a serpantine shaped helm covering a snouted head. Around it were scores of familiar honor guards, all jabbering and loosing war-cries.
Kartah reached for a small device from her belt, and held it to her helmet. "This is Sargent first-class Kartah, I'm requesting an air-strike on these coordinates." As she said this, she tapped in a series of numbers on the keypad.........
The Metal Mallet
Hmm, an airstrike eh? I don't even know if THAT much firepower is going to take out those things, especially since their firearms can make craters...

Hopefully you prove me wrong; I wouldn't mind to see Honour Guard limbs flying all over the place biggrin.gif
Lord Revan
First of all, those are staffs (like a fire/shock, from Oblivion/ Morrowind style crossover). Second, Surrush is a fusion now, and has more power than ever (more than any single Honor Guard). He's like a "hero" of his race.

-------

Revan part 2/ chapter 12 (cont):

An air strike, Revan recalled Xarkum mentioning flying vehicles, but he'd never elaborated on their potential; Revan was eager to see what these flying weapons could do. The small communication device crackled, and a slightly distorted voice was audible. "This Major Ozarks, we hear you Sergeant. We're on approach, hang tight." As the voice finished, another energy blast burst from the cliff. It was fast (and if the crash had been any indication) deadly.
Everyone scattered, but they were to slow to get completely clear. Rhys grabbed Nara, and sprinted before diving onto the blanket of snow. In that moment of chaos, Revan felt something pulse through his mind, and everything slowed down. He took everything in: the others who threw themselves out of the most harmful part of the attack, the jubilant Honor Guards, the hulking thing that watched as its enemies flee in fear and panic, and finally the lethal beam that still rocketed forward even in slow-motion. Two presences flooded his being, his pain disappeared, and he closed his eyes…….

Arise, child,…… Revan wake up.” The voice said soothingly. Revan slowly woke up and took in his surroundings. He was back in the temple structure from before, and the grey spirit was kneeling beside him. “Greetings, little one, you can’t imagine our joy in reuniting with you after all these years.” Revan eased himself into a sitting position and spotted the gold spirit approaching. The two apparitions gazed at him fondly, but Revan hadn’t the slightest idea of who they were. He couldn’t remember meeting either one before Valenwood.
Suddenly forbidden memories flooded into his mind: a High Naryyn man and a Dark Naryyn woman embracing, months later the woman was sitting on a chair looking down upon her pregnant stomach. And finally the mother held her newborn child, the father walking into the scene to see the baby........ “….as for the child, it will be sent to the new colony….”
It took a few moments for Revan to realize the implications “These memories…..their mine, and if their mine then…..” His voice trailed off and he stared at the spirits. They both nodded empathetically. The gold one spoke first. “Yes Revan, you now know the truth. We wish that we could have told you this during better circumstances, but we can’t change reality son……” Revan’s mind was moving in twenty different directions, but through the chaos, one thought stared him in the face. These are my parents, my family, a Dark Naryyn mother and a High Naryyn father. The grey one –my mother—obviously felt his distress, and stepped forward to comfort him. She put her hands on Revan’s shoulders. “I’m sorry, Revan, I wish that these were times to reconcile, but we aren’t in times of peace and order.” Revan stared at her. “What happened? I have all these new memories that weren’t there before. Why are you spirits, and not Naryyn?”
She seemed slightly taken aback, but remained composed. “Revan, when Markus and I gave birth to you, we broke several laws of The Order. You were torn away from us, and we were exiled never to make contact with each other.
Revan's wasn't as calm as he wanted to be. "But you did, and now I fear the consequences-"
Markus' blazing eyes flared orange, his voice also betrayed his own lack of calm. "Yes, and it was complete circumstance that this all happened this way!" The furious and commanding tone instantly threw Revan into submission and stole any equally angry come-back. The grey spirit -Revan's mother- stepped in between them and shot both of them a glare. "Silence," then in a weary tone. "Revan, we didn't know where to find you or each other, and it was a fortunate coincidence that we all arrived here at the same time. But we truly don't have the time to say all that must be said." Markus' instant revertion was astounding. "It is true, we can't tell you everything that we should, but I can tell you, Revan, that there will indeed be reprecusions. Unfortunately you must face with them alone, for our presences will soon fall apart." Revan dropped his head, but snapped it back up. "What do you mean?" He asked. Markus looked solemn, "You see, our bodies are not as physical and permanent as they appear. They are about to expire, and we'll depart from this world to the void beyond." As he said these words, they began to blur and disappear. "Wait," Revan cried, reaching out with his hand. His mother attempted to clasp it, but her hand passed through it. As dozens of individuel emotions played through Revan's head, the spirit's voices merged to chorus one last phrase, a psalm from a prophesy. "It bears the wieght of many, but is not of one blood or kin. It will be shaped by strangers, and forged into by companions........ Hail, the Herald of Glorious Twilight, the balance of light and darkness....... And slowly the scene crumbled around Revan and his parents were no longer visible.............

Wow, Rehvan is the chosen one? Well that would definitely explain some of his occassional uberness.

Maybe that slowmotion remains. Then Rehvan could dodge the beam and give that big hulking High-guard combination a bit of pain to eat. Speed beats muscles any day.

Clans (D. Naryyn)-

Marhun-Kar- are of the tribes of Dark Naryyn left behind on Nirm. They are beast-tamers, taming animals and semi-sentient beasts with telepathy and spirit-bonds. Though talented warriors, they are more mentally disciplined than physically. Their village, hidden beneath Dagoth-Ur, has become a sanctuary for the scattered and near extinct clanships on Nirm.

Hurso-Vernah- or blood-seers are the most blessed and cursed of the Dark Naryyn tribes. They are gifted with special sight and visions, but are not capable of normal sight. They can literally see into people’s souls, and see their intents and motivations. But a skilled individual can block and even rebuff their efforts. During the eve of civilization (The Mythic Age), the Hurso-Vernah vanished with the exception of a few individuals. Like most D. Naryyn secrets, their disappearance is shrouded in mystery.

The High Naryyn Council- the High Naryyn government is a mixture of parliamentary and theology. Ruled by a council of patriarchs, they have become a beacon of civilization and protection for millennia. The proud Imperial Navy is arguably the most powerful force in the sovereign authority of the H. Naryyn Empire. They have conquered thousands of worlds, and have never known defeat. Skirmishes are frowned upon in the Navy, and are less favored than a huge climatic battle. It is time-honored tradition to fight the enemy head-on and with absolute, decisive, and united force. Veterans enjoy personally leading their troops into battle. Diversionary tactics are also found undesirable, and thus, the navy never uses such “weak” or “cowardly” strategies. They fight in conspicuous, bulky, power suits that gleam bright gold in the light. Thousands of races have kneeled before the council in submission, for the High Naryyn (as a whole) think and move in a coordinated fashion. Only a few species have ever been brought to extinction by a war with the High Naryyn (in all cases, they were not desirable or sentient). The subordinate races hold the H. Naryyn (and their council) in a holy reverence as demi-gods, holy envoys of true immortals.
Despite their conquest and grandeur, the council continues to order the extinction of the Dark Naryyn, their former brethren, a higher priority to any war. The Great War so long ago that even by Naryyn standards it was several generations ago, and therefore there are no contemporary first-hand witnesses to the historic event. Despite this, generation upon generation spread the outdated propaganda about the Fallen Ones.
Though most High Naryyn don’t actually hate the Dark Naryyn, with all the stories from their upbringing, they are compelled to kill their former siblings. Still despite their long outdated prejudice, the council is as deserving of their power as the Dark Naryyn Matriarchs.

Dark Naryyn Matriarchy- like the flipside of the same coin, the Dark Naryyn have also made great headway in their eons of separation. But despite this, the Naryyn are incredibly similar. Whereas the High Naryyn have conquered and dominated their region of the void, the Dark Naryyn have wandered and adjusted to a (until 5 thousand years ago) settled the world of their dreams, Xarmanca. Xarmanca is a barren world, where the sky and clouds are violet, and it never rains despite the huge clouds. Though many other races would consider this place inhospitable, to the Dark Naryyn, it was a paradise. Upon it, they built a wondrous capital city of the same title. Every planetoid, from moons to gigantic asteroids around Xarmanca has been settled by the different tribes and clanships. Perhaps as a symptom of their strong presence, a large part of the region is bathed in a large cloud of dark matter. Xarmanca has become the center of the Dark Naryyn’s growing society.

The Order- a single group that has united a small number of both species of Naryyn into its fold. They do not seek to unite the Naryyn, and regard anything other than mutual respect between the High and Dark subjects an act of heresy. Aside from this, not much else is known about them, except that their operatives have infiltrated both cultures.

Revan part 2/chapter 12:

The figure strode through the hall of an abandoned Naryyn temple. A blizzard raged outside but was muffled by the ancient walls. These corridors probably hadn't felt the weight of a Naryyn's footsteps in many centuries, and with every step Marthyn took a cloud of dust left a small cloud as he trudged on.
He knew he wasn't here to gather followers or artifacts for The Order. But he ws taking the time to calm his raging spirit. They betrayed our wise leaders not once, but twice they did so intentionally! A nearby wolf howled in pain at the volume of his mental fuming. Was Markus not faithful to me? he raged. To his own blood and kin? Then his mind produced the image of his hatred. Or did he care about you more He queried. A spawn of muddled blood rather than his own pure kin? He drilled his eyes into the black, depthless face plate. Why did he favor you? Whatever the answer is; I don't care! I, Marthyn, first born of Markus, will be your life's end as my father was your doomed begining.
With that he turned and stormed down the hallway, no longer caring about peace or serenity........
Revan, my sevro, your brother is coming for you......

An older brother, and a full-blood High Narynn. Hmm, this could become a very messy family feud.

Revan part 2/ Chapter 13: The Culling

Norik looked over the map of Vardenfell, which marked the positions of his troops outposts across the coast. The "Bitter Coast" was mostly deserted so there had been little resistence, now Norik was on his way to the city of "Vivec," to meet with the leader of this island, Helseth.

The dropship's engines rumbled as the transport moved in to land atop the "Temple Canton," which was what the natives called their large floating city-islands. Norik stood paciently as the ship landed. When the bay door opened, a dozen Naryyn soldiers filed out and stood in rigid formation on both sides of the transport. A young grey-skinned man walked forward with the walk of a royal upbringing, but dispite the obvious authority about the young king, Norik was revolted by the similarity Helseth had to the fallen ones. Helseth wore a mask of calm over his detectable exhaustion, irritation, and stress. "King Helseth, I sense your agitation, and I assure you that as soon as our quarry are found and terminated, you can have back your kingdom." Norik couldn't speak the native tongue so he simply coversed with the king telepathically. "Indeed," Helseth reply betrayed his youth and impatience. "My subjects would perfer for me to deny you access to Vardenfell."

Norik bristled slightly. "And those subjects would be destroyed if they got out of control. You must realize that my forces have the advantage, because not even if every being on this continent could overpower us. So you keep your people in line-" He bent closer to Helseth. "Or we," Norik gestured to the twin warships hovering above the water. "Will do so for you. The Fallen Ones are here and we intend to find them." He turned and began to stride back to the dropship, but paused. "Reveal yourself now." Norik commanded. A hooded figure appeared out of the air to Norik's right. The display was reminisent to oil flowing of metal. "Who are you?" He asked it, although he knew the answer already. "I am Sarmath, and you cast down my people long ago and are responsible for much of our hardship." The Dark Naryyn said, determined and without fear. Norik turned to Helseth, "and why is this heretic here?" The soldiers watched feeling the tension and the veiled threat of from leader. "I don't know this creature." Norik knew that Helseth was lying from the filthy traitor's look of betrayl and calm resignation. Norik faced his troops, "Kill the infedel." He said simply. The troopers nodded and raised their rifles; Sarmath put up no fight as his life was put to an end.

"Come," he ordered his men. And strode into the dropship's troop bay after them; without speaking another word to Helseth. As the shuttle lifted off Norik contacted Ankrus. "Prepare to storm the island." He instructed, "Leave no place untouched by our grasp."

Revan part 2/ chapter 13 (cont):

There was a blinding flash of silver/gold light that enveloped Revan's vision. He raised his arm to shield his eyes. As the visual display subsided, a large gouge on the ground came into view. Revan realized that the energy blast had been deflected. My parents, he thought, and felt an odd warm sensation flow through him. The honor guards on the cliff hissed and shrieked in fury that their attack had not been lethal.

Rhys and the others were all on their feet by now, and Rhys gave him a conscerned glance. "Something is differnet." She told him, and Revan gave a start as the realization hit him. Though her mouth was not visible, the rest of her face betrayed its grin. So I'm tied to her, he thought. Maybe it's a blessing. He sent a subtle pulse of thought to acknowledge their Hurso eto bond of blood and spirit. Rhys cocked her head and that same warmth spread through Revan's mind. What is this emotion? He asked the air.
The honor guards were now frenzied, but a large speciman was keeping them in line. There's something familiar about that one. He thought. Suddenly all the guards froze and their spines flared up in outrage as they looked skywards.....
Xarkum yelled and pointed. Revan searched the cloud-veiled sky and spotted them. Two Naryyn fighters wheeled and dove out of the air with a preditory grace. They had a long, thin fusaluage, and two wings that sprouted from the end to form a cape of sorts, and the engines blazed an invigorating orange afterburner. They screamed and split off, on on the left, the other on the right. Then they spun and converged on the clifface.

Surrush......

His minions became aware of the engine noises moments after their leader did. But with his extrasensory he spotted detected the interceptors first. The twin hawks swiftly closed the distance to their cliff. Self-preservation took hold over his subordinates well-being, and as the fighters were about to release their ordinance Surrush snarled and threw himself off the cliff just seconds be fore it exploded.
As he threw himself, Surrush realized that the distance of the fall was too great for him to survive. He flailed through the air and screamed before he was dashed to his death.

Rhys......

As the spectacle of the bombing raid subsided, Rhys felt the sudden wave of death compete with the gales of Sosthiem. But she banished it from her awareness, If Revan can do it, then so can I. After all, he is my bond-brother now.......
The Metal Mallet
Hmmm some interesting events, no more Surrush. Poor dude(s). But now Revan has an angry brother to deal with, as well as the some High-Narynn, and more honour guards.

Man, the problems seem to be piling up...
Lord Revan

Don't forget his relationship with Rhys (yes it's an infant stage of love). laugh.gif
The Metal Mallet
Women issues, whether good or bad, makes things 10 times more difficult for a main character.

Now they gotta worry about them getting hurt or killed or maimed or something. Then when it's the bad side, they worry about them still, or feel terrible for what they've done to them and are constantly thinking of ways to make things better instead of focusing on the problem that could end all their lives!!

So yea, adding a love interest makes things even MORE enjoyable to read! biggrin.gif
Lord Revan
Well, Rhys isn't exactly a fainting flower (I think that's the term), but rather something of an asset. Still there will be hardship; don't worry there will be.

Revan part 2/ chapter 13:

There was a brief pause between the group before Kartah's com-unit crackled. "Mission complete, we're heading back to base, good luck Sargent." Kartah whispered into the unit. "Thanks Major, you too." Xaries took charge and everyone turned to salvage all they could from the rover. Revan paused and turned to Rhys, who was gethering the medpacs from the wreckage with Nara.

He slowly stepped forward and bent down to help; taking off his helmet as he did so. Is this really love that I feel for Rhys? Or am I just admiring Rhys' beauty? Rhys faced him calmly, and looked him over. All the packs were in a pile by now. So Rhys beckoned him over, which he obliged. Neither said a word, they just savored the moment without danger or death. What is with me? The thought had enough volume to cause Rhys to look him in the eye. But rather then speak she simply acknoledged that she'd felt his question, and that she understood. Revan figited, ill at ease, but Rhys was simply the bottomless pit of sympathy and understanding that she normally was.

After several minutes of sitting with her, he got up and approached Xaries, the old one would likely understand and explain things for Revan. "Lord Xaries?" Xaries turned from the crate of munitions he'd been evaluating. "What is it Revan?" He asked casually, as an equal. "Well sir, I wasn't brought up......" Revan paused, unable to find the right word to illustrate his confusion.

Xaries furrowed his brow for a moment, and then finished Revan's malformed question. "You want to know if your feeling love." Revan shifted his feet, ackwardly. "Well Revan, I can't tell you if you feel certain emotions for someone if you won't allow me into your mind. However I can tell you that Rhys is attracted to you on the same level as you are to her. But I can't instruct you on how to mange your relationship, that is for you two to decide." He handed Revan a fresh assault rifle and five clips for it. "But your training in restraint from your childhood might aid you in this new realm of emotional intrique."

Revan felt reassured, Yes, I can put that to good use. "Thank you, wise one." Xaries waved away the last part. "I've just seen relationships, not experienced them first hand."

After an hour of gethering, organizing, and distributing supplies, the group continued on foot to the exit of the valley. Then the three High Naryyn comlinks chimed belched static. "This....... Alpha vehicle.......Lord Xaries...... read me?" It didn't take a bunch of telepaths to fill in the gaps. The defecters were escaping and trying to find them. Xaries held the comlink inches from his mouth. "This is Xaries, to defectors, we need pick up a grid five-hundred, thirteen, over?" There was a pause, and then the young voice returned. "We read you commander and have alock on your signal, hold tight."
The Metal Mallet
Rescue! And love! Hooray!

Revan part 2/ chapter 13:

After some minutes crossing the threshold of the valley the group finally passed the blackened clifface that the Honor Guards had previously attacked from. As they winded around the cliff a shattered form became visible. The once powerful creature now lay ruined before them, its head was bent almost completly 90 degree angle, and the armor was shattered at the waist and rear areas. It hyad apparently been smashed by the fifty meter plunge.
The group moved on, not looking back at the corpse. The snow gave way to solid ice, and it appeared traverable. Not after ten minutes had gone by before a low hum became audible, and turned into roar. In the middle of the pack, beside Rhys, Revan paused moments after Xarkum and Kartah. Then everyone turned searched for the sound.
Finally a squat, four wheeled, scout vehicle flew over a nearby cliff and skidded across the frozen water. Seconds afterward, several other vehicles, of varying sizes and shapes, landed in the small pass. There were small ones like the first scout, APCs like the one that they'd used for their escape from the tunnels, and there were huge armored transports that were twenty feet long.
From one of the large transports, stepped the same officer that Revan and Xaries had encountered in the prison, many other officers jumped out of their transports and marched toward their leader.
"Good to see you sir!" One of the officers saluted smartly. Xaries returned the gesture. "What do we have, Captain?"
Another noncom released a small floating orb, which created a hologram of their inventory.
"Well, commander, we have three mobile artillery guns, five heavy-troop transports, sixteen APCs, eighteen scout buggies, and ten 'Fury' class tanks. In terms of personel...... we've got five battalions of marines, twenty-eight engineers, eleven field medics, and enough supplies and ordinance to hold a position for about two months." Xaries adopted a far-away look as he stared at the holoprojection, then shook his head. "What don't we have, Captain?" The officers looked as uneasy as Revan had half an hour ago. "We don't have air-support, we're outnumbered, and we don't know this planet well......."

ten minutes later......

"Ok, so these two blips over the water are The Dominance and The Hunter. Everyone was clustered around the holographic map of the island of Vardefell, two dots (one red, the other blue) were guarding the isle. "They both possess the firepower, manpower, and the air-superiority to crush our uprising five times over." On of the senior noncoms said grimly. Xaries and the other High Naryyn nodded, there was nothing that they could do to bypass those cruisers.
But Revan continued to scrutinize the map for some detail that the High Naryyn had overlooked...... "Rhys?" He called out to her mentally, because he wanted to confide privately with her. "can you help me find some solution to this plight?" Her responce came quickly. "Revan, in warfare my knowledge is no greater than yours......" There was a pause, and suddenly rhys was beside him and seemed to have something on her mind.

Rhys......

Rhys didn't know what Revan expected her to know that he didn't, but then after a few moments of thought, she found something that could help. She sat beside Revan and noticed him flinch, but she took his guantleted hand and squeezed it. "Revan, I wish to confess something...... Back in the Caverns of dagoth Ur, I was able to tap into your mind." Rhys felt a part of Revan's mind rear back in outrage, but his voice was as calm as ever. "What does this have to do with our current problems?"
She was not sure weather to be offended or to be releaved that Revan had not payed her mental violation more reaction. But she knew that her presence sometimes made him uncomfortable at times, but sometimes helped. "You have, of course, become aware of our mental bond? Well, I could......." this was something that had conducted many times in the history of the Naryyn, but often had long-lasting, if not permanent results and those usually were bad consequinces. "... I could try to meld my mind with yours to share our knowledge and focus." This could cost us everything if he agrees....... Rhys closed her eyes.

The Metal Mallet
Hmm this bond of theirs is becoming more intriguing. It'll be interesting to see what happens if they decide to combine memories....

Revan part 2/ chapter 14: The Awakening

What can be the price for such intimacy? Revan asked himself. I can feel my connection to Rhys, but am I willing to cross this line? I could ruin both our lives, and the lives of those that depend on us....... Revan was no longer paying any attention to the many beings swirling around them, only the woman beside him and her offer demanded his focus. After what seemed like a millinium, Revan finally stirred from the quagmire his mind was right then. Rhys, I will share my mind with yours......... His mind-voice sounded clenched to him. And whatever might happen, if we are ruduced to shells, then so be it.

Rhys stared into his eyes for a long moment, then she nodded solemly. Then let us begin....... Revan felt as though a lock in his head was unlocked and Rhys' cold, soothing presence flooded into his soul.......

He stood on an invisible floor. Then a beacon of light openned and Rhys' slim figure became visible. On the small arm-length wide floor both Naryyn strode forward, mirror each other's posture, never taking their eyes of one another. And when they met........ They fell alone.

Revan plumeted until he slammed into a pool of water, but as he kicked to remain on the surface the water became so thin that no matter how Revan struggled, he continued to sink. Several feelings washed over him, he breathed them in instead of water, but still felt like he was drowning in these emotions. Happiness flooded his mind and for a moment, he felt warmth, loved and sheltered, but then it was torn away and Revan felt freezing, alone, and abandoned.
His mind's eyes opened and revealed a young man, in his late twenties, wearing a guard's uniform with the symbol of Bravil emblazoned on it, the man smiled and called out something. A young Rhys ran into view and embraced the guard laughing and....... alive with happiness. The image blurred and it changed it showed a dark room and in the center was a white coffin and the guard from before was lying serenly in it eyes closed, completely at peace, but the image changed to outside Bravil as an adolesant Rhys ran bitterly from the city of her childhood, sobbing heavily. Revan felt his eyes fill with tears in unison with Rhys' tear.

Rhys.......

Rhys fell and landed hard on a cold stone floor, she got up shakily and looked around the dark room. there were no exits, all the walls were bleak and had no remarkable features. Suddenly she heard a faint hissing sound, she wheeled around, but there wasn't anything visible that had made the sound. As Rhys started to back away toward a wall, she realized that he feet refused to lift. She looked down at them, only to find them incased in some sort magical ice.

Rhys tried to concetrate and cast forth a fire to melt the ice and free herself. But to her horror she found that her power had forsaken her, and slowly her body began to freeze. It was hard to breath after the ice encrusted her chest and she couldn't scream because her head rapidly froze over. Now paralyzed, the ice became colder than anything she ever felt; her mind itself seemed to be frosting over. A dark halway appeared and she straode down its length. There were voices speaking, one was load and full of authority. "Why did you even think to bare a child of muddled blood?"

There was a long pause, behind the door that Rhys stood before. She tried to pry it open, but the door refused to yeild. The voice resumed its speech. "You shall be exiled from our order....." Finally the door squeezed open just wide enough for her to squeeze through. Once through Rhys turned to look at the room, and what see saw sparked new questions.
A young, beautiful Dark Naryyn female sat on a chair stroking a newborn baby's forehead, and a tall, handsome, broad-shoulder High Naryyn man stood gazing fondly at the baby's peaceful sleeping face. "....and as for your son, he will ne taken to the new colony, council adjourned!" Several armored men of both races stormed in and ripped the baby from its parents.......

The sky was grey and Rhys found herself in the courtyard of a shrine. Two Spirits stood at the other side and they had a stiking resemblance to the two........ Rhys felt shock and brief horror, but the image dissappeared.....
The Metal Mallet

Revan part 2/ chapter 13 (cont.):

Nara sat crouched protectively beside the unmoving forms of Revan and Rhys. Their bond is much more noticable now. Which was true, what had originally been a small flexing channel that flowed betweenthem was now a sheet that was as wide as they were tall.

Nara had always been inquesitive about powers of a supernatural nature, it was why she had payed such attention to Revan in the first place. He was literally a sealed vessal of energy and might, but that energy had yet to be harnesed, or let alone uncovered. But in contrast to the High Naryyn around them, that had great command of their power at all times, the Dark Naryyn all had smaller pools of 'conventional' energy but large (and in Revan's case huge) amounts of energy in reserve that could only be temporary channeled.

While Nara couldn't deny here affection for Rhys, who was the closest thing she had to amother, she was captivated by Revan's essence. It was less of an emotional liking as a sub-conscious pull to a vassal of great and mysterious power, but still it was clear that her mother's attraction to the man was an emotionally (and spiritually) based relationship.

She pulled her legs to her chest and sighed as she probed their turmoil. A duel-meditation, risky, but if they don't lose their sanity, worth the possible consequinces. Nara thought to herself. While only fifteen years old (by Naryyn standards surprisingly young) she already understood a good deal about mystic forces, and the Hurso itself. Probably because I'm Hurso-Vernah, or just blessed, or a little bit of both. She mused.

Someone tapped her shoulder, and she turned. The two High Naryyn, Xarkum and Kartah, stood behind her. "What's going on? There is something wrong going on between Rhys and Revan." Kartah spoke, flatly. Nara refocused on them and frowned. Yes, there was something wrong going on with the mind-link. In her lapse of attention, the stability of the link had deteriorated substancially, that definitly wasn't good. Oh no, if that link breaks they might not even wake up again! Nara realized, frantically.

Xarkum cocked his head, "What, what's wrong?" Nara raked her brain for some answer to this new development, then she had the answer, she'd have to stop the ordeal. Then she winced, realizing the problem with that plan. I don't have near enough power to stop the probe! Xarkum asked again with more mental volume. "Nara, what is going on?" The telepthic shout suddenly illuminated answer.
Nara spun around to face the High Naryyn. "Ok, Revan and Rhys were communing with each other, but now something has happened to that link. If we can't stop their communion, then they might die when the link fails!"

Both Naryyn flinched, and traded startled glances. "What can we do to stop the link?" Asked Kartah, her tele-voice was as close to panic as you could expect the woman. "I know how to stop it, but I don't have near enough power to do the job. You two have to share your energy with me to fulfill the task, we need to work quickly!"
The two nodded in unison, and put one hand on each of Nara's shoulders. Raw Hurso energy flowed through Nara's body, she had never had so much power at her disposal, and under normal conditions would stop to contemplate her new potential. But she threw the thought away disgusted at her callous lust for power. Nara lifted both palms upward, bringing the combined energy to bear, and focaused on the bond.........

Revan.......

After the endless stream of visions and emotions, Revan had no strength left to struggle to the surface, and simply drifted in the calm currents of Rhys' mind. His mind was now barely ebbing any sort of conscious thought, it wouldn't be long now.........

Rhys'........

The cold, mind-numbing events played through her mind....... Who am I? She thought, she hardly registered her screaming terror at the diffaculty it took to remember any of her memories. Her mind was almost completely encrusted with the ice. Revan's cold past did not help her fight against her inevitable deepfreeze. So much blood, so many deaths, when would all of it end? A hazy sort of light appearedon her periphical vision, but she paid it no heed....... And the room began to fade.........

Revan part 2/ chapter 3 (cont):

The High Naryyn cruiser sped through the never ending void, toward a small, multi-colored dot. Commander Satith stood with his hands clapsed behind him on the observation platform of his ship's bridge. The long, serpentine vessel was of the two hundred mighty cruisers in the fleet. As the various crew toiled away at their stations, Satith had his attention on the rapidly growing spot, Nirm.

The planet was small and insignificant, so much so that it didn't exist on any form of starcharts that The Ascendant possessed. But it's relevant now, he thought to himself. The expiditionary forces had reported a Dark Naryyn presence on Nirm. And for unknown reasons, several ships had departed to Nirm for no reason.

Of course, he corrected himself. The council wants me to find out why these ships have gone rogue. That would be more difficult then the wise ones could have imagined, these weren't some overenthusiastic zealots, Satith could tell that much.

Add to this fact, that the force had a sizable head-start compared to his fleet. The rogues would arrive within two standard hours, but Satith's reinforcement troops wouldn't be able to arrive for another twenty...... The High Naryyn knitted his brows in deep thought. If we launched our single ships, then they could arrive in half the time, but without enough power to fight if needed....

Satith's fleet consisted of the intimidating Ascendant heavy cruiser, two carriers, and three frigates. The rogue fleet had three medium cruisers, six frigates, and four carriers. In a full-on engagement the rogues had Satith outnumbered and outgunned.

Despite his proud career and heritage, Satith hoped that this would not end in violence. No matter how I look at this, it appears hopeless..... If Norik can hold his own until we arrive then maybe we could have a chance.

"What would our forefathers do in such impossible odds?" Satith thought to none of the crew in particular. Normally a leader hid any uncertainy from his men, because it was bad for morale. If only we had more troops or another army.........

Marthyn strode across the snowblind of Sosthiem, and as he froze at what he beheld from atop his hill. The twin Naryyn warships hovered above the bay, but in the sky a small fleet dove from the sky and struck at them.

The Hunter took a direct hit from a particle blast and its shields flared. Moments after the first exchange of fire, four bulky carriers released their fighter squadrons upon The Dominance and The Hunter. Inspite of the onslaught the two heavy cruisers spun to face the attacking armada and returned fire with a barrage of brilliant crimson and violet lights that flashed across the sky.

What sort of madness is this? He mentally exclaimed, and took a step back from the spectacle......

Revan part 2/chapter 13 (cont.) :

For a few moments Revan's mind began to clear, and he was able to feel the waters recede. Then there was a horrible sensation of freefall and Revan was gripped by nausia. But rather than the expected moment of impact, the feeling diminshed, and he slowly came to rest.......

He slowly opened his eyes, and at first the only thing that he saw was a white background with several gold, blue, and black smears. Then those images resolved into the blurry silhouetes of Nara, Xarkum, Kartah, and the other Naryyn busy with their own tasks.
Beside him, something groaned and Revan glanced to his right. Rhys sat, swaying in an uncoordinated fashion, her eyes oddly glazed. She covered her face with her left hand and took a deep breathe. But within moments her weary state vanished -physically anyway- and they both groggily stood up. Xarkum sighed in exhausted relief, while Kartah hid her own weakness better but it was still apparent.

Nara was keeled over on the ground, sweating heavily. Rhys, on instinct, instantly moved to help her. Though no longer in the trance, Revan continued felt a rush of unusual emotions zipping through his still clouded mind. But he banished the confusion from his awareness and focused by reciting an ancient creedo of the Morag Tong.
Xaries marched towards them, his armor no longer held its glorious gleam but it did not diminish his confident and charismatic presence in the slightest. He glanced with veiled concern at them, but it vanished as he spoke. "We're moving out to the coast, it's best not to remain here for much longer. Xarkum?" He gestured for his nephew to follow him. Xarkum hesitated, looking briefly at Revan, but he reluctantly matched step with Xaries. Kartah followed without any lack of enthusiasm, but she nodded to them in a sign of respect before she accompanied her CO.

Revan turned to Rhys, but she was already on her feet. She nodded to him, but her sash hid her warm smile. Revan was temporarily rooted to his spot; doing his best to hide his unprofessional reaction. The old part of himself would have shaken his head at his squemish behavior, but that part was almost gone now. I never imagined that love would be so hard to deal with. He thought. Then again, I never thought about love at all.
He slowly lead them to another APC, which was mostly vacant, aside from the driver and gunner. Revan seated himself in the seat closest to the rear hatch; Rhys sat directly across from him. She took a cloth from one of the overhead compartments, and wiped pirsperation from Nara's forehead. When Rhys finished she lightly embraced Nara, who returned the gesture.
Ignoring them, Revan fastened himself into the harnes that held him to his seat. He removed his helmet, and closed his eyes to rest.......

Rhys.......

Rhys enjoyed hugging Nara, the young girl was too young to be forced into a conflict like this. And it felt good to be relied on in such a way as parentage. So this is how a mother feels like? Children are blessings, worth protecting and raising.
In her blissful moment, the cold contrasting side invaded. But Revan never trully felt the love of a parent. His parents loved him, of course, but he never experienced a full up-bringing in their care.......... Rhys opened her eyes and gazed at Revan fondly. He was handsome and strong, but that wasn't what had drawn her to him.

It was his character that was captivating, he was reliable, independant, and absolutly loyal to anyone he considered a worthy friend. But Rhys could see that under his valor and confidence there was something that spoke of a different man under the cold armored shell. He not only survived without parentage, but he thrived. To her that was unimaginable. Where I was raised with care and love, he was spawned of disipline and comradery....... We're so different, but at the same time, so alike. He thrived on his up-bringing, but it came at a cost. Rhys felt a creature under that armor that didn't know what it wanted for itself, but just went with the wind's currents.

In a way the mask he wore was a second face, the face of an emotionless killer. While his true face, the one revealed now, with friends and kin, was that of a protector, who would fight to preserve his new-found gifts. All together, both faces culminated to make an enthralling man. Smiling beneath her black sash, rhys closed her eyes. If he can deliver us from this crisis, then I will do whatever I can to give him some form of true peace before the next one.........
