I severe thunderstorm just swept through my area rough six hours ago, and I became interested in seeing what you people think of thunderstorms. I used to be afraid of them when I was litte, but now I enjoy watching them!

I lived in an area of constant storms. At first they were fun to watch, but I found they got boring after a while...so now im a "dont feel anything for them" person.

I LOVE thunderstorms! Florida is the lightning capitol of North America so of course we get scads of thunderstorms. In a good rainy season (June-November=hurricane season ... June-August=rainy season) we get daily afternoon thunderstorms of terrific caliber. They come on ferociously out of intensely sunny blue skies and an hour after they've stopped the only evidence in the muggy returned sunny weather are the little puddles everywhere on the ground.

I still remember the night of Bob Hope's funeral ... the thunder was so magnificent that night it honestly sounded like the heavenly hosts were playing the great man a celestial drum solo soundoff goodbye ... or welcome you might say.

I do now though have steel-toed sneakers (black Reeboks, they're awesome) so I worry abit about what if I get struck by lightning, what'll happen? They still do have rubber soles of course. If anyone knows the physics of this please let me know because I'd like to walk freely around lightning without worrying.

Gah, thunderstorms! Ok they are beautiful as a phenomenon, to watch from far away......but I still suffer from the thunderstorm that hit my homearea at the 30th of may! two comps and a broadband router down the drain! So they are really a nuiscance

They're dangerous. And fun to watch. A poor man's Fireworks Show, I suppose...

Before moving to Oklahoma six years ago, I would have said they are fun to watch. The ones around here tend to damage stuff on their way through!

I love watching t-storms, specially going out ot the dock and watching thm roll in. had a pretty impressive one a few days ago in wilmington. unfortunetly while fascinating and active it struck two of the brand new buildings on campus and shorted them out.

I like watching them, but they're a pain when they come in when I'm on the computer, not to mention thunderstorms in Oklahoma is usually paired with a tornado somewhere.

So mritchey & Zarrexaij both live in Oklahoma ... are you two related? Interesting that you are both from what seems to be a lesser populated state.

Three words when it comes to lightning storms and electrical equipment ... battery powered backup. Your surge suppressor for your computer and router and stuff should have that so the batteries can give an extra 30 seconds or so of power and your computer can get a soft-off that way instead of getting fried. I think that's how it works anyways. Cain's battling 4 headed Hydra in Shadowbane so I can't ask and be sure. teehee

I live in the south-eastern corner of Pennsylvania... its like a little pocket of safety. We never get floods, tornadoes or anything of that sort! The worst thing we ever get is snow, but lately that hasn't happened!

I like to watch thunderstorms that aren't too severe from my garage, sometimes my dog and dad join me!

I'm only scared sometimes when I have to be outside in the thunderstorms but some people in Florida are crazy. Like I was swimming in the pool and I could here what I thought was thunder rumbling from far away and one side of the sky was approaching dark clouds. So I said it sounded like thunder and the other people in the pool just said "No its those airplanes flying overhead." So we stayed in the pool. So then there was lightning at a distance at which time I flew up out of the pool ... but those other crazy people stayed in the water until the rain was just pelting down on the water like crazy. I mean, they were already wet .. guess it would have made sense if it wasn't for the lightning!

And everyone in Florida walks around in the rain like it isn't happening. No umbrella, no walking faster, no hunching down ... just strolling along business as usual. Its a warm rain usually and does feel pretty good after the killer hot humidity and sun so much.

I live up around Tulsa, and the storms always seem to aim there slightly. They always do stir up trouble, but fun to watch in my opinion.

Yeah after living in Central and S. America rain does not bother me in the slightest. I never understand why most americans start running when it starts drizzling. I just walk through it as if it's not there, even when it's rather heavy. It's just water after all. Besides I think i have only seen it actually "rain" once or twice in NC, most of what is considered 'rain' is nothing quite like what i am used to in Panama or Venezuela.

GAH! We´ve been having some the last two days again!.....I unplugged everything remotely like computers, telephone-lines and tv-antennas! Been uncommunicable since friday morning!

Like smoke and fire, where there's thunder there is lightning. May not be close to you and you may not see it but thunder is the sound that lightning makes when it breaks through the air. So be warned and aware.

Uh ... yeah, I know that. Thunderstorms bring not only thunder but the lightning, hail, high winds and tornadoes that have been known to cause damage from time to time.

Florida sucks! It's too humid there. Well, anyway, I voted they're a nuisence because my cat wants to go outside, and won't be quiet until he hears the thunder. Plus, on Oblivion, I can't see too far ahead.

Oh I'm sorry! Funny Mil. Just touchy cause I had a nice wizard tower going in Morrowind and then I got too ambitious and I think I either made the whole thing too tall or made one of the large statics too big!! And the darn mod crashed my game so bad that I had to reinstall all 3 games, MW-Trib-BM .. and patches ... and now I have to redo the cool stuff I made over again. Got the meshes and textures anyways.

And Milanius, I made a cool dark, almost black red tapestry of your anger face (remember that pic?) so I'm just gonna take a screenshot of it in TESCS and see if you'll let me use it in my cliffracer shooting tower mods. There are 3 now - had to break it up it's so large. lolol

And this has to do with thunderstorms??....how??? .... Obliously that when it rains it pours. Also, don't sit in during rainy season and build your mods too big or too high.

As long as nothing bad happens, I love these! It always gives me such a cozy feeling when the thunder rolls in. Though the effect was better on me when I was a kid, these days it´s more like "oh, can´t sit and play my games anymore"

I despise the things. (We've a full day of potential severe thunderstorms this Wednesday, with another couple of stormy days not yet flagged as severe.) I tend to be petrified of them since I don't have a storm cellar or even a 'safe' room or closet in the house. Nor does my little town have any sort of community storm center.

My family's history with them include:

A cousin who lost his life when a tornado-blown door smashed into his head, or vice versa. (This occurred either just before I was born or when I was too young have any direct memory of it.

Another relative had a tornado take out a small corner of their house. (Again, a long time ago.)

My parents' home was totally destroyed during a 1973 tornado. They and my brother survived by being crouched between a bed and wall in the the one room of the house that remained partially intact. (Its ceiling collapsed several hours later.) That same tornado destroyed my father's place of employment and the high school I attended several years prior.

The roof and two walls of exterior siding of my current home, and my then-car, were totaled during a hail storm circa 1998.

Overlong exposure to the elements while policing the yard following a wind storm late Jun 2014 led to a worsening of an already existent chronic lung condition. I've had frequent 'flareups' ever since, and now need daily medicated inhaler treatments plus monthly antibiotic treatments. (Before, flareups occurred piecemeal, separated by wide intervals.)

I had a pair of cats (brother and sister) who had opposite reactions to storms. The male would sit in the window and watch the light show, and the female would hide at the back of a dark cupboard.

I've had the chimney knocked off my house by lightning, and lost trees at the front to a small tornado that didn't damage any of the nearby houses, although it did drop a large tree in between two of them. I don't live near any trailer parks, so tornadoes are rare.

A trailer park is needed for one to manifest?

Not needed, but it is well known that trailer parks attract them.

Bloody 'ell. This morning our forecast was for overcast skies with a chance for stray thunderstorms. Couple of minutes prior to supper electricity cut out momentarily. Cut out again, and again momentarily, not long after supper. After the second outage I launched my online weather site of choice to discover we're under a flash floor emergency, with record shattering rainfall already fallen, and more enroute. Looked out the living room window. Eep! Scary. (My ears no longer lets me hear rain hitting the roof.) Turned on the TV. Local news shows lots of flooding. We shall see how it goes, I reckon.

At it turns out, the worst of the heavy rains were over, or nearly so, when I posted yesterday's comment. No damage to myself or my property, praise the Nine. Yeah, this is something of a severe-weather prone region. Summers used to be comparatively safe, with fewer weather threats. But nowadays summers are super hot, making each lawn mow a risk for an old fart like me. But what ya gonna do? That lawn's gotta get mowed.

The stronger the thunderstorm the more I likes it .

Had our first major T-storm scare of the year (2017) between yesterday early evening and this morning at roughly my breakfast time. Potential of strong winds, hail and (to a lesser extent) tornadoes. Luckily my immediate area seems to have avoided all that though places not far away suffered wind damage and electrical outages. Very scary tornado cell to the south last night that thankfully weakened to a non threat before it reached us. Now not much past 9am we are under clear blue skies, with all the nastiness having moved to the east across the Mississippi River into TN (and elsewhere).

Damn thunder woke me up 10 minutes before my alarm is set to go off in the morning. Ugh.

I love thunder storms, I can practically sleep through them.

I usually do as well, but man.... That boomer shook the house.

Woke to no electricity just before 0400 this morning, 25 Mar 17. A landline call to Entergy revealed that power went out at 0107, and was expected to be restored by 0730. There was nothing for it but to stay in bed and read by the light of two very weak candles. Come 0745, still without electricity, I called again. Now we were expected to be without until around noon due "extensive damage" to Entergy equipment. Back to bed for more eyesight-worsening reading. At about 0815 I discovered my bed alarm-clock time display flashing. Got up, reset the three clocks that needed it, turned on the computer. Here I am.

Not sure what happened. Last time I checked weather last night we were under thread of strong winds but nothing worse. No damage to the homes/yards around me that I can see.

Oddly, as I was typing this Entergy called to let me know that damage is worse than expected, and that restoration time is now unknown.

We get small outages from time to time without any severe weather at all. Part of living in the countryside where everything is neglected

What a day! After posting my previous contribution I decided to play a little Wiz7. Finished that and found I couldn't reach any web sites. The router verified DSL was dead. So was the entire phone line. No internet for me until about circa 1500.

News is saying we're about to get some storms...YAY!!!

We were under threat of severe storms much of yesterday, 27 Mar 2017. Thankfully, aside from fairly constant "normal" spring T-storms little came of it locally except some too-close-for-comfort lightning strikes at around lunchtime, and lots of rain for a brief period afterward. Today is our one good weather day. Both tomorrow and Thursday are stormy, with chance of sever storms.

Ja, it rained pretty much all day for us yesterday. Some thunder and lightning but nothing too serious.

Whew...

We had a chance for some nasty weather from yesterday late evening on through mid morning today. Nothing came of it locally. Very bad stuff down Texas way yesterday, and to our west (Oklahoma). Thankfully the worst of it petered out before reaching us. The storm front's western edge is now just to our east, heading eastward, with the potentially severe stuff all east of the Mississippi.

Another potentially scary storm night. So far it hasn't gone badly, certainly less scary than was predicted. We were under a Severe Storm Warning until a bit ago. It's now been downgraded to a Watch, the worst of the storms having moved to our east. Still under a Flash Floor Warning for another 30min or so. A town 10 miles to our west has indeed suffered flooding. The area around my house looks no worse (so far) that what one would expect during heavy rains.

Tomorrow is expected to be a decent day. Bad weather moves in again Friday, and last through the weekend. As of now at least one of those three days has the potential for severe storms.

Bah! Now Friday - Sunday are all three flagged for potential severe storms.

Bloody Spring! I'll take the heat of summer any day, except when I have to mow that lawn. Forget that! (As if I could.) Far fewer severe storm threats during summer.

Flash Flood Watch from now through Sunday, 30 Apr 2017. No other forms of severe weather are listed...yet. My weather site of choice shows a potential for severe storms all three days, but gives no further details. Too bad I can't ask my avatar to travel to my side of the screen and cast his Sheogorath weather changing spell at times like these. We could make a financial killing of that, up until non existent climate change screws things beyond the point of no return.
