I took the time to find out what that tiny bit of your sig said. Does that make me crazy?
jonajosa
The new Duke Nukem has been anounced! ITs called Rage or somthing like that. ITs about a Indian who walks around beating monsters with a giant wrench.

They are using the Doom 3 engine with a upgraded(by thier own design) Havok engine. You hit somebody in the face and his face has a wrench imprint in it. I read a interview or somthing in a mag and one of the DEVs said they were using a 9000 polygon count on almost all of thier chacters. Thats real smooth graphics for people.
Ambberfox
talking about games... since I read something about Will Wright's next project (called Spore) I've been totally hooked up to that one, trying to find as much information about it as possible. That one looks like it'll be an awesome game once finished :goodjob:

The narrative works of Night and Life is Beautiful are a vivid yet troubled view of the holocaust. Night opens up to the description of Moshe the Beedle. Moshe is a poor man, humbled but welcomed in the community of Jew in Sighet Transylvania. Elieswer, a boy that only wishes to be a man of God, enlists the man for his religious knowledge. Time past and eventually in 1943 all foreign Jews are expelled from the town, including Moshe. Months past and no one remembers their leave. Eventually Moshe makes his way back to Sighet and starts explaining how the Nazi’s tried to kill them all. He was labeled as a lunatic and ignored, even by his former pupil. A year later all the Jews are forced into ghetto’s and eventually sent to one of the many Nazi concentration camps. The story continues on and shows how Elieswers family, faith, and humanity is lost during those long months. When liberated by the Americans, elieswer finally has a chance to look at the shell that once was him. He was different, fatherless and inhumanly treated he vowed a vow of silence that lasted ten years.

Quick riddle:

Okay, so a husband is born with it, but his wife usually uses his. The pope was born with one, but doesn't use it the same way a husband and wife would. Nuns don't need them at all. What is it?

give up?
a last name
Channler
Lips...

Husband is born with lips, wify kisses lips, pope has lips, kisses people but not intamitly, nuns aren't supposed to kiss at all

theres my pathetic attempt
DoomedOne
No, that doesn't really fit. A wife is born with lips, she doesn't use her husbands, she uses her own. Also, nuns need lips to speak, lips don't jsut kiss.

Wear a bandana or something around your throat wink.gif it really helps.. Are you going with a group? If so

Find - Find your enemy, Flank - Get on his side, Fire - Light him up, Follow - Follow up and leave no stragglers

Kinda took that from Brothers in Arms, but it works EXTREMELY well. And keep your team from being intimadated..
Wolfie
Yeah we did that last time. It was a capture the flag type thing, my team flanked them, and then completely obliterated their team and decided we may as well take the flag
Night and Life is Beautful Comparison Paper

The narrative works of Night and Life is Beautiful are a vivid yet troubled view of the Holocaust. Night opens with the description of Moshe the Beadle. Moshe is a poor man, humbled but welcomed in the community of Jews in Sighet, Transylvania. Elie, a boy that only wishes to be a man of God, befriended the man for his religious knowledge. Time passed and eventually in 1943 all foreign Jews were expelled from the town, including Moshe. Months past and everyone forgot about their leaving. Eventually, Moshe makes his way back to Sighet and began describing the Nazi tyranny, and how they will kill all the Jews. He was labeled as a lunatic and ignored, even by his former pupil. A year later, all the Jews were forced into ghettos and eventually sent to one of the many Nazi concentration camps. The story continues on and shows how Elie’s family, faith, and humanity are lost during those long months. When liberated by the Americans, Elie finally had a chance to look upon the shell that once was himself. He was changed. Fatherless and inhumanly treated, he vowed silence for the next ten years.

Life is Beautiful starts off in a fairly happy mood given it’s a holocaust movie. Guido meets this wonderful women who he constantly refers to as Princess. Later both of them get married and have a son. It is my understanding that Guido and his son are taken aboard a train to leave for a concentration camp in the year 1945. Princess (His Wife) decided not to leave her husband and son and went to the camp as well. During the train ride to the concentration camp, Guido disguises the experience that they are about to go through with his son, as a game, and the prize is a tank. Throughout the story Guido hides the truth from his son and yet still keeps him happy and unknowing. Near the end of the movie the Americans are moving the front closer and closer to the camp so that the Nazi’s decide to abandon it, but not before taking the women out and trying to kill them. Guido hides his son and makes him swear not to come out unless there is no one out there, then disguises himself as a women and travels among them to find his wife. He was unsuccessful, and on his way back to his son, he is caught and executed. The next day the camp was vacant and the boy emerged from his hiding place, only to find an American tank outside. He won the game, but had no idea his father died. Later he and his mother are reunited.

Elie, the main character of Night, is a religious young man, that wants to study the Calabash and is deeply convicted in his beliefs. He cries when he prays, and cries when he asks for forgiveness, but he wasn’t even sure why he did these things. I think that is why his faith was swayed. When Elie witnessed the hanging of the child, he gave up on his God. Throughout the book, Elie still constantly looks toward God unknowingly, and asks for help in the situations he encounters. Elie allowed his circumstances to determine his outlook in a negative way.

However, despite his similar circumstances, Guido remained a light hearted and joyous man. His personality was charismatic and his brain thought of elaborate schemes and ideas. His love of a woman known to us as Princess caused him problems yet made him want to overcome his burdens. When traveling to the concentration camp his ability to keep his son oblivious to what was going on proved that he was a extremely persuasive man, though he did it out of love for his son. Guido was also very daring, for many times he “communicated” with his wife by means that could have earned him either death or very severe consequences. In the end though, his devotion to his family got him killed.

Both Night and Life is Beautiful are set during the trying and traumatic times of World War II. By comparing both stories, it shows that the evil of the holocaust affected many different locales and many different nationalities. In Night though, the time goes from roughly 1942-1945. The author is always referring to something dark, and unsought, things that make you cringe, and things that make a bad taste on your tongue. It paints the picture of a Nazi concentration camp well. All too well. In Life is Beautiful, the time period is never stated, but it must start sometime around 1937 and end somewhere in 1945, because the story is about one man‘s journey through life with its mountains and valleys. Unlike Night, Life is Beautiful is first a love story, then a story of sadness. The camp doesn’t seem near as bad as in Night, yet the pictures and the fact of why Guido hides the monstrosities of the Nazis from his son is enough to explain its evils.

In conclusion, I believe that Night had a more realistic portrayal of the horror of the Nazis’ ways, yet Life is Beautiful was a more moving piece because of the love that the family shared during their time at the camp. Night made me wonder how people could commit such acts, and still have a conscience that governed them. Life is Beautiful pointed out to me that family could persevere in the face of adversity, and that love is a powerful thing that can even lead one to death. I think that the world was forever changed by what the Nazis had done in World War II, and I think that these literary pieces are great reminders that we shouldn’t let it happen again.
