Why of course <I know what happens to Uranium!!! I WORK in a NPP, for christs sake!
And i am not sure I totally approve of your handling of radioactive waste
But one thing I know of and that´s how WE handle it and I consider that pretty safe, at least we have control, we know where it is and how much we have! And how we´re gonna store it in the loooong future
In fact the used fuel-elements from all NPPs in Sweden are stored in an intermediate storage in a sort of "cave"right under where I sit just now, and to me they´re quite harmless lying there in huge pools under a hell of a lot of water.
Water is a very effective shielding for Gamma-radiation...aside with lead of course. :goodjob:

sounds perfectly safe, but having all that nuclear stuff under me would still make me kinda nervous

well I do understand that people are scared! Some of us swedes are afraid as well! But I´ve been sitting on top of those elements for almost 10 years so.....
There are routines and safety-precautions, very strong ones so really I´m not that worried. But of course you have to know what you´re doing.

I don't eat a lot of breakfast. I'm never hungry untill about noon. I have to cycle some miles to school and back and sometimes I don't eat until I get back. Never had a problem with it though. I just eat a lot when I get home.

God only knows how I survive.. 1st period is AFJROTC, then 2nd is English 11, and then 3rd is Weightlifting (I'm about to die at this period, I think it ends at about 12:45 pm) then I get to eat lunch for 20 mins, and then finally we get to go to 4th period.. civics and economics. Usually I play a sport but this semester I didn't feel like it. But we might get a lacross (SP) league in our school district! Super!

Heh, y'all in school. I got the week off, spring break!
French? I used to take that in my old school, they don't have it here though. My school is a Regional Vocational Techincal High School. Which means it has kids from several school district going to it (Regional), in addition to a normal school week we have a "Shop" week. the 'shop' week varies depending on your shop.
Oh, right, Shops are kinda like jobs. Like...job training. Its hard to explain, so i'll give out some examples. Like, theres culinary, which teaches kids cooking and working in restuarants and stuff, they also make a special lunch for lunch that costs more than the regular, in addition to running a small restuarant which is usually attended by old people, and running the teachers' cafe and assiting lunch ladies. Theres also Automotive and Autobody, which you learn how to work on cars and stuff, and you DO work on cars. People bring in car to be worked on. The only thing the person bringing cars pays for are any parts and such. No labor fees. Afterall, they are letting kids work on a car.
'Tis a cool school. One week of (lots) of school work, and a week of fun. I myself am in the 'Data processing' shop, which isn'treally data processing. Its more of general computer stuff. And programing for the higher grades.
Its a easy shop, fun, and about the only place i nschool you can get away with wearing headphones.
Makes the school week hard, but its' worth it.

Err.. not sure what history book your readin out of DarkCootie but according to myy limited about a knowledge Area 51 is a secret testing facility.. I might be wrong though
Why do you think workers from area 51 get so sick? they dont have to abide by the "rules of man" clinton helped pass that billl for some reason so anything goes including radioactive storage. and workers there have come down with horrible skin conditions where it falls off in huge strips and is really gross. and yes i know about defence testing there

I´m sure that place is horrible...but those injuries...could be some chemical exposure as well.....I´m sure they must have chemical waste there somewhere..and radiation causes more inner damage unless you actually grab a piece of highly active material..but then again you´d feel the "burn".....
you know i dont really know what it was but can radioactive materials get into the air?
well yes..as dust it does, so you´ll need a particle-mask when working with the stuff....
but radiation itself is invisible.....the gamma-raiation are electromagnetic rays , the beta-radiation is electrons running wild and the alpha-radiation is helium-kernels.....

The US's military is the mightiest of the world... I doubt we use something as secret as Area 51 for nuclear waste storage, to me it would seem like a waste of privacy. And with there skin falling off and such, I really don't think that you can prove that radiation is the cause of that.. there are a whole bunch of different chemicals that could do that to you.
I love debates!

Yeah, in physic we recntly did a bit on waves. Learned some about Gamma, how they tend to
melt your insides. So, i doubt the skin-falling-ooff is radiation. It tends to kill you very fast... not to mention make you bleed from every oriface.
