 Um... 11 pages and I notice the sign "YE OLDE COFFEE SHOP" just now ?! Man, am I blind or am I blind...
Well, first of all hello to everyone (again), I've been busy last several weeks doing some serious action in Gothic II; the game was so damn involving I still feel the effects of it, but after a few days of MW I'll be back to normal. Anyway, our idiotic broadband provider is still not ready to start the service, so I guess that I'll just have to wait few months more for it - untill then expect me every full moon around here
Oh, there's another thing - this little story I've been writing with the huge help of our friendly neighbourhood Wise Woman is almost finished and it'll be posted soon... in the meantime, the next round of coffee (and a large double cappucino for Stargelman) is on me. Cheers !

Those eco people are crazy... heres a qoute from one- "We should put all animals before us humans." What a bunch of poo that is.
Isn't it in alaska where they found all that oil under the ground?
Aki
Apr 15 2005, 09:12 PM
Ah, Humans. both the smartest and dumbest animal to ever walk this mudball.
We don't need friggin' oil and compassion. Get up some dams, some windmills, solar panals. Etc. Renewable energy. Doesn't cost compassion, except for the miantenace of the facility, and it makes electricty.
Hell, once we get Geo-thermal stuff figured out, we can use all that damn Heat in the magma inthe inner portions of the earth for some good.
:paperbag:
And kinda should put animals before us. I mean, what else are we gonna friggin' eat? I aint going vegitarian cause a bunch of dumb hamsters killed all the animals. I'll subsist off junk food.

Apr 15 2005, 09:18 PM
K, this is whatever so I'll start something
You want to know what drilling the alaska refuge will do for us? Here's what it'll do.
Roughly 20 years from now, out reliance on foreign oil will drop from 66% to 60%.
It's compeltely useless to drill from there.
The cost however, is destroying one of the last arctic wildlife refuges left. A third of the carnivores that make their home in that refuge are endangered.
And, maybe people are so worried about the ecosystem because without it... we can't breathe? You cut down too much rain forest, and suddenly not enough oxygen is being produced anymore.
The more humans invade, clear cut and mono-farm wild-life lands, the closer we're pushing ourselves to extinction. I just don't understand it, when did it happen that suddenly humans no longer lived in the same ecosystem as animals, and started working as hard as possible to replace the animal's ecosystem with our own?

That's not what he's saying at all. Don't misconstrue it. We're not like PETA where we think all animals need to have fresh peticures and be massaged daily or anything.
It's simply that we eat animals. If we stop caring about animals, we don't have any food. On the other hand, we don't eat other humans, they give you indigestion.

I say use the oil, and at the sametime prepare for when it runs out.

Of course the oil companies want you to keep using oil. Here's the funny thing, the oil peak doesn't happen when we run out of oil, it happens when we're half-way out of oil. Don't expect the oil companies to change their position at all, even when we're knee deep in a second depression. Looking for other oil sources isn't really helping, look at Iraq as an example, we secured the oil there, and the gas prices went up. It's not time to try and suck the earth dry, it's time to jump the transition into alternative fuels.
Yes, we are going on a tree cutting rampage. Brazil signed away a large chunk of the rain forest in brazil to a corporation just last year. The rain-forest has one quarter inch of top-soil. That basically means that if you clear cut a part of a rain-forest, it'll take hundreds of years for that part to grow back, because there's only a quarter inch of nutrients.

We do care about animals. But we will never run out of animals to eat. Theres enough fish in the atlantic for everybody to eat untill they die. 46 billion caper wash up on Englands shore every year. Thats just that area of the world too. Lets not even beging to try to count how many wash up around the world.
All livestock is increasing. We can care about animals but we dont have to completely draw our attention to them. Food is nothing to worry about.
Forests... Studies show that the rainforest has actually increased this year. When the leader of the organization made to save the rainforest was asked to coment on this he was awstruck and praised the foresters for planting more trees in the places where they cut down the other ones.
But whatever.
- Food is fine. Animal population is increasing.
- Forests are increasing not being all wiped out.
Theres nothing to worry about in those areas.

See, the country isn't really that polarized. It's just that Bushed pissed a whole lot of people off (including me on mutliple occassion) so they all went to the streets, and those people pissed a lot of bush supporters off so these people took up arms. I'm somewhere left of center because of my ecological views.

I do think appeasement is the wrong way to go... look at WW2, everyone was appeasing Hitler so there wouldn't be another WW but it happened. Now that dosn't relate to iraq very much but I think that alot more veiws would be suppressed and alot more people lives would be ended for the resisting of Saddam. But the appeasment thing comes down to Korea in my book.. I give it another 7 more years and there might just be open war between the US and NK, and I plan on being in the military by then so I'll do my part..
