Argo
Hey fellas,

i dont know if you guys know about it already, but ive today got a link to this really intersting looking MMORPG, called "SilkRoad Online"

the download of the game client is around 480MB and its free to play online. its said to be similar to WoW, and the screenshots look great, so i thought i might give it a try ... im still downloading the client, but the server seems to be pretty fast.

find it here: http://www.silkroadonline.net (be aware that the site doesnt like other browsers than IE)

also, the english on the website is kind of funny ... "sing up" ("sign up") LOL !

cheers!
Soulseeker3.0
...thanks... I would play it but my present pc is horrible, I don't think I meet the min requirements(sp?)...
Argo
minimum requirements are:

Pentium 3 800mhz
256 MB RAM
a better gfxcard than a geforce 2

dont tell me you cant beat THAT wink.gif in fact im stunned, since the game looks really nice on those screens
Soulseeker3.0
... well one way to find out... (yeah I don't know all the stuff about my pc...leave me be!)

it will take around 30 mins to download.... tongue.gif
Vinya
wonder if it'll run on my crappy dell laptop.
Argo
hmm. i seem to have some problems with the game executables here. i can start the launcher and make an update, but as soon as i try to launch the game itself, i only get a message with some strange symbols (which i guess is the korean language)

anyone else any luck with this?
King Death
I might check this out later. Looks pretty good. The english was really funny on the site, hopefully it wouldn't be like that in the game.
Soulseeker3.0
... lol this stinks.. I have an error installing... it says "Silkroad online cannot be unzipped. Zip is damaged. installing. Silkroad Onlineis cancelled"

it is on (loading) File: Data.pk2

at least you installed it tongue.gif
ShogunSniper
well...it looked promising...

but if you guys can't even get it started then...
i'm trying my luck at it though biggrin.gif

lol very true...
ShogunSniper
so close!

i got a message that read:

??????????????????????????[???????]???????????????????????
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

????????????

and then there are 2 buttons at the bottom the say

[ ? ] [ ? ]

note: that's not korean that i dont know how to type, it is in fact a message of question marks.
Argo
seems like the devs have messed up their latest patch, since a lot of people share that problem. ive checked a german fansite for that game, and all of them have that problem since today.

also, if running correctly, the servers seem to be filled around the clock, so its hard to join.
Megil Tel-Zeke
Oh dear, yet another korean MMORPG. sad that they butcher the language, yet I can't blame them. looks alright, but with past experience with korean MMORPG's i am skeptical.

PT was far from nice
Soulseeker3.0
oh well, i give up. I got half way through the installer... my pc's crud...
DoomedOne
I have my own problems. The game will start, and I'll see the ships and stuff, and then I'll click, and as long as I don't let go of my mouse the game will go as normal, but as soon as I let go of that button it all freezes.
Kindred Spirit
I'm working on it now. I'll see if it's any good. I'm part Irish, so it should work fine for me.smile.gif (note: very, very, small part Irish, like 5%)

Oops, guess not. I got the "404 NOT FOUND" message when i clicked their download. I guess I'll try again later. (Evil, Korean site with evil, fake links. *pouts*)

Screenshots look good though.
Bofra
Just a small notice..

It works now

smile.gif
Brood
Might check it out next weekend...

i have similar problem, but when i let go the game just closes.

lol, the only server up and its status is: Jammed.

where's the german fan site someone mentioned? anything about that one there?

n/m i found an active fansite here: http://forums.silkroadonline.org/index.php?act=idx

apparently this is an open alpha and lots o people are having the same problems we are.

i really hope they fix it though, this game looks very good IMO

Well don't forget not every computer was produced for gaming, mine is for office but it came with a ProSavage card, which barely runs Morrowind...

Works fine for me, and I must say it's more fun than most Corean games I've tried. The graphics are pretty neat and the whole asian setting feels real. Although don't expect any other quest than "Kill x amount of x monster"...

Anyway it'll get you amused a while, at least it did for me today tongue.gif
Megil Tel-Zeke
of course its an open alpha. if it was final it would be P2P.

??? Korean...
Kindred Spirit
I'm still working on setting everything up, DierextX 9.0 right now, but I downloaded and installed everything else this morning. The server was busy and I had forgotten to instal DirectX, so I was pretty much screwed.

Huh, I have an idea for what can keep me busy untill Oblivion comes out. I wonder of the people making this would have any use for a volunteer who can work on helping them out with their English for no charge. I'm good at editing and correcting spelling and grammar mistakes, and it's something to do, right?

Or maybe I could volunteer to help think of better quests. That could be fun.

I know they probably won't want/accept/be able to accept my help, but hey, it's worth a shot, right?
Argo
hm! it seems to make a lot of people addicted, so ill give it a try too!

@kindred spirit: sure, ask them. but dont expect a reply wink.gif
Bofra
Kindred: You got that idea from reading my post? tongue.gif

Soulseeker: well daah! wink.gif
DoomedOne
If anyone has gotten it to work yet please say so.
Soulseeker3.0
I've gotten it to work but it was so slow on my pc that I got out of it... I might try it on my dad's pc.

So what would it take to get another server for the game?
DoomedOne
I got it all the way to character creation then it froze when I did a name check.
Megil Tel-Zeke
seeker if they are anything like priston tale was, and they probably are, they will not create another server until the current one crashes for an extended period of time. Priston tale did not make a new server until the other ones all crashed for a period of over 3 weeks.
ShogunSniper
argh.

i still can't click..... very annoying...
DoomedOne
Shogun, just let the loading screen continue, don't click until it asked you to select a server.
ShogunSniper
tried it, can you select a server without the mouse?

Wasn't expecting an actual chance, but hey, I'm hoping. Won't hurt to ask, right?

From a combination of that and seeing their site. And I finally got it to work, and I saw the automatic guide messages, which also have bad grammar.

Hopefully, they will realize that getting help, for no price, usually isn't a bad thing.

I got it to work fairly well. It's a bit laggy from time to time, but it's pretty fun. I had it up and running twice earlier. Got it going for a while, learned how to move and play and stuff, and then my computer crashed. Not from the game, my computer just dissconnected itself from the internet, like it often does. Then I got it up and running for a couple hours, got a character to level three or four.

Oh, I found some item I can't use, it's for female characters only. Nothing great, just some fancy gloves. If someone wants them, tell me here, and we can arrange a place to meet up. I don't see any point in selling them, money isn't that important.

My overall impression of the game is that it is pretty awsome. I tried a few other free MMORPGs, and this one's graphics are better than any of them by a couple of miles. The game is pretty cool so far, no real plot or anything, but cool enough anyways.

I'll detail a couple of the things about it. These are spoilers, only read ahead if you want to know.

Character Creation System- There are a couple of characters, I believe 13, for each gender. These each have original names and stories for them, including a couple who are undead, demons, and other such things. Each character has a paragraph or so to explain their past, and why they are on the Silk Road. Each character is good at different things. From there, your character can be modified by altering the height, build, starting clothing, and starting weapon.

Fighting system- There is a skill for each type of weapon, although your character might or might not have the skill for a particular weapon, depending on which you pick. The weapon types are sword, dagger, big sword (similar Seung Mina's weapon on Soul Calibur) spear, and axe. (I thik that's it, not completely sure.)

Magic System- Not sure of much about this one. I know there is a different skill for different types of elemental damage, haven't really used magic yet.

Level Up- When you level up, you get a certain ammount of points, which can be used to increase any skills you choose, as long as your character has that skill. One point is automatically added to magic power and health, although more can be added to them instead of increasing your skills.

Battle System- You click on the enemy, it shows how the two of you fight, doing all the dice rolls and such behind the scenes. There are several different attack animations.

Enemies- So far I have encountered two types of enemies. I can't remember what their called. sad.gif Three types if you count variations of the same kind. There are these little bad guys, big bad guys, and a champion form of the little bad guys. That's all I've run into so far.

Healing System- There is healing magic, you regain health when not in battle, and you can sit down and rest. While sitting, you regain health much faster than normally.
ShogunSniper
did you have the clicking problem?
DoomedOne
I got pretty far this time, managed to get all the way through the first stage of character creation before it froze.

I would say it's a bit laggy ALL the time, you should expect at least ½ a second delay on every action you make. But I learned to live with it and it's still a fun game.

Well, maybe a bit laggy all the time. What I meant was like a five second lag, sometimes more, on my computer, although, as you said, I learned to live with it. I'm used to choppy games. And if it gets really laggy, I go and eat breakfast, then come back down and wait for it to unfreeze. smile.gif (Nah, the most lag I've had was maybe twelve seconds.)
Konji
Well you really scared me it wasn't going to work, but it works prefectly for me! So far I'm fighting 30 of the little bad guys. Annoyingly it says meet the gneral by the south gate, when he's actually by the west gate...
Argo
oh man, that all sounds great fun - unfortunatly, im still not able to join, since the game crashes on loading. ive got a similar problem in WoW, but that was fixed at a certain point in the patching process. it has something to do way im connected to the internet. damned.

now i feel left out.....

maybe i'll download it again.

hows the community? is there a lot of real people?

Real people? If you mean by player characters, then yes, it's pretty crowded were I've been (the starter city and surroundings). If you mean by cool people to actually socialize with, I doubt it. Most of the players are either really young ("Don't have a credit-card so I play free games on my dads computer"-people) or don't speak a word of english.
At least thats my experience.
DoomedOne
Dammit now I'm completely hamster cave jealous. my computer is fine the game is just being a piece of compassion to me.
Konji
Yeah, there is no community within the game.
Channler
Hahha, wow, I just downloaded it a couple hours ago.. And it works fine!

Im level 7 atm smile.gif

However the spelling and grammer in this game is horrible, almost unreadable some times..

EDIT: Also, if you all actually make it into game, we should try to make a guild or whatever.
Bofra

I was just going to suggest that. A w4o guild smile.gif
Channler
Eeek... I just found out the requirements for a guild..

You have to be at least level 20, and you have to have 500,000 gold...

Hmm, I better start workin,,
Bofra
If someone gets to lvl 20 we could collect the money together, if the interest excists.. or if the game is fun enough smile.gif
