Alrighty then. I had enough positive feedback to actually spend hours coming up with all of this background. Thankfully, I had a bit of the real world to build on.
Please don't join without reaading all of this, as all of it is extremely important.
Background Info
-----------
The year is 3120. Within the last hundred years or so, another solar system was discovered. It is the home of many alien races. Theirs is called the "Rykar Empire", while our solar system is now called "The Milky Way", despite the fact that it is also the name of the galaxy shared by the Rykar Empire and the human system.
--------------
Races
--------------
Human - They are the only intelligent life forms naturally from their system, and they originate from the planet Earth. You know about them, seeing as you are one.
Rykar - reptilian bipedal aliens (think skaarj on unreal or bigger, more muscular, threatening argonians), they rule their solar system, and the other races of their system are their subordinates; used for labor and are the lesser ranks in the military. they have long claws that can easilt tear through an inch of steel. they were the most technologically advanced race, which allowed them to conquer the other planets. even after spreading the techonology throught the Empire, there have been no lasting or threatening revolts from the other races; they have been too long in submission.
Ryki - They are small, and are one of the races ruled by the Rykar. The Ryki are very similar to the Rykar, but are smaller and weaker, and their claws are nowhere near as large or strong. The Ryakr use them as spies in the military, and more often as house servants. They have the natural power to turn invisible, but that is no longer special, as the Rykar have used their technology to mimic the power. They have few rights, but still far more than Dresh.
Kran (Human slang; Titans) - Enormous giant beasts, they often measure over eleven feet high, and are only loyal to the Rykar from years of imprisonment and abuse. they are beaten into submission at a very young age. They can take many blows and gunfire very well. They are slow, but impossibly strong. They are also a reptilian race, with long spikes protruding from their backs, and vicious teeth, stronger even than Rykar claws. They are often used for warfare and difficult manual labor due to their massive size and strength. Despite the menial tasks they are given, they are by no means slaves. Once they are out of their 'training' stage, they are usually given a decent amount of freedom, unlike the Ryki and the Dresh.
Dresh - The only non-reptilian race of the Empire except for the Lysetin, they closely resemble humans except for their totally black eyes, tall, skinny frames, and dark green skin. This race is the lowest in the Empire's caste system. They are used as infantry in military operations, and are considered expendale. In normal life, they are most often slaves.
Lysei - These fish-like, aquatic creatures are the only ones not conquered by the Rykar; they only saw benefit in joining the Empire. The Lysei are the only ones not ordered about by the Rykar, because they can easily hide away in their water, undetectable by the Rykar.

Systems
--------------
The Milky Way
The Milky Way is the human solar system, comprised of Earth, Mars, Venus, Neptune, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, Mercury, and Uranus. (and their respective moons. sorry, but I didn't want to look them up)
Earth - Earth is now a toxic wasteland from years of pollution. Now that the humans know better though, they have taken extreme measures to protect their remaining planets. Earth is now only homes to three things: a large prison colony, (called 'Alcatraz' after the famous inescapable prison of years past) waste, and people that don't want to be found. These people often make their own biodomes underground, where they go undetected. This is a popular thing to do among the large criminal organizations.
Other eight planets - All of the planets are populated by humans, They all have large biodomes covering their surfaces with tunnels interconnecting them all. Luckily for the race, humans had planned ahead enough to begin saving large amounts of many different species of plants and animals, and introducing them to the biodomes, allowing for agriculture and self-supporting ecosystems. The main thing provied by the biodomes is atmoshpere; oxygen is continually pumped, as well as all of the essential elements of earth's atmoshpere.
Other facts
- There is an uncountable number of space stations orbiting the planets, and some are even navigable.
-The system is ruled by the Prime Minister Tosh Frey, and the Interplanetary Congress.
The Rykar Empire
The Rykar Empire is the home of six planets: Ryk, Lysetin, Dresh, Krandor, Trensi, and Ri Gan.
Ryk - The home planet of the Rykar. It began mostly consisting of forest, but as technology advanced, they were soon building huge metropoli(is that the plural form?). Now, they have begun a reforestation effort which is getting to be very successful. They even went as far as destroying cities, and rebuilding them over the ocean to make more room for the expanding forest. Now, only about half of their settlements are on land. Ryk has two moons, referred to as Loti and Rali. The Ryki began as a small population, living on Rali, but a majority of them were deported to Trensi by the Rykar, and their population flourished.
Lysetin- Lysetin is covered in ocean, but the Lysei can breathe in and out of water, and have built a few cities above water. The Lysei do not have equal rights to the Rykar in any way, but they have far more privileges than the lesser races. Since the Rykar have no way of conquering them in their own world, they had to be convinced through diplomacy. The Rykar needed the untouched surface of the planet for mining fresh minerals, such as the coveted Rithum, and the Lysei used that to their advantage, for the Rykar knew that all the Lysei had to do was go back underwater and never be heard from again. Lysetin has one moon.
Dresh - Dresh was once a very diverse planet, much like Earth was. Like Earth, it is now a barren wasteland, but not because of pollution; because of war. The Dresh fought the Rykar when they first decided to conquer, and put up a hard fight, but they lost in the end, when they surrendered due to the almost total destruction of their planet. Now, the Rykar use the Dresh as their slaves; mainly to keep any kind of uprising down. Dresh used to have moons, but they were all destroyed in the war. The planet is very near ininhabitable.
Krandor - Krandor is mostly desert, but also has oceans. The Kran are very suited to withstanding heat because of this. The Kran also fought the Rykar in the beginning, but they soon gave up because they were still quite primitive compared to their smaller cousins. Now, there are far too many years of servitude for there to be any sort of revolutions. The Rykar only wanted the planet for the Kran themselves, the barren planet had no other real value. Krandor, like Lysetin, has only one moon.
Trensi - Trensi is a frozen planet, uninhabitable by all races but the Dresh(they are the only warmblooded), and even they can only stay outside for a few minutes before dying. There are only two settlements on the planet, both of which are mining experiments. The sttlements are few, but extremely large, and the Ryki race hrives in the controlled conditions of the closed in cities. Trensi has two moons, neither one are named.
Ri Gan - Like Dresh once was, it is a very diverse planet, with forests, deserts, oceans, and many other sorts of terrains. The only difference is that there is no intelligent life originating there. The Rykar moved some of the Dresh here after the destruction of their planet, but more of the Dresh were sent to other Rykar planets for slave work.
Other facts - the planets may be a majority of lesser races, but every planet has Rykar outposts, and every planet is run and wached over by Rykar to keep order in the Empire.
- The Rykar Empire is ruled by the Emperor, whose name is Ral'Ness Gren. The Ryk has many lieutenants, who are in charge of all the planets other than Ryk,

Current Events
---------------------
the Rykar Empire and the humans of the Milky Way have been at war for over a decade, each launching attacks on the other, but neither ever gaining an advantage.
The war started when the Rykar decided to expand their borders, and the Earth's Prime Minister is motivated to free the races enslaved by the Rykar.
The Rykar have the advantage of more advanced weapon and shield technology, while the Humans have more resources and more planets for the Rykar to worry about.
Within each system, however, it is not total peace. In the Rykar Empire, many Kran and Ryki have started a small resistance. The group calls itself 'Blood'. They haven't been able to get many Dresh supporters, due to the fact that they are all heavily guarded, and the Lysei are quite content with their 'more equal' rights. The resistance started as an opposition to the way the 'lesser' races of the Empire were treated, but soon became opposed also to the Empire's lust for conquest. The leader of this group is unknown, but many speculate that there is no one main leaader, but a council of ten or so Kran and Ryki. It is rumored that there is a small Dresh presence in the group, but not enough to be worried about.
In the Milky Way, there is a large resistance force that have no 'official' name, but are often referred to as 'Peace Fighters' in derision. They soon adopted the oxymoronic name, as it pretty much summed up their views while adding a bit of mystery. The Peace Fighters believe that Prime Minister Frey should make peace with the Empire, and forget about freeing the other races; no need in destroying their traditions, no matter how wrong they seem to the humans.
The most talked about events are two battles, both fought in the Milky Way; the Third Battle of Neptune, and the Battle of the Blind.
The Third Battle of Neptune was won by the humans, but at a huge cost; many of the biodomes were destroyed, and had to be cut off from the system, causing thousands on the planet to die, including a member of the Congress.
The Battle of the Blind was just that; neither fleet picked up each other's signal until the two fleets were right on top of each other. The Rykar won, destryoing hundreds of ships to the loss of their own two dozen. Many of the most experienced and hardened Generals were killed, and many more were captured. The humans still don't know how much information the Rykar gathered, if any.

Technology

Weapons
Humans
-Infantry weapons-
-The humans still use bullets, but they have quite a bit of power, and are able to pierce through some of the Rykar armor. They also have a limited number of Rithum guns stolen from the Rykar and copied; the only problem is lack of Rithum to mine in their own system.
-The humans also use rockets and other explosives that can heavily damage a Rykar line.
-They have large war machines made to battle the Rykar's Titans, and ironically named the machines themselves Titans. A human can sit inside of the Titan and pilot it, allowing for superior damage as well as mobility. The Titan is equipped with large explosives as well as normal machine guns. Its armor can withstand lasers for quite awhile, helping it tear through the Rykar lines. (don't think tank, think more like a small gundam, without the gay colors and swords)
-The humans have a vast number of Rithum melee weapons stolen from the Rykar during the decade of war, and all of them are employed by the military, and many are sold on the black market, and some resistance groups have them as well.
-Space combat-
-The humans have the clear disadvantage when it comes to space combat; they are forced to use bullets fired by electro-magnets inside the guns they are fired from, (firing pens wouldn't work considering there is no oxygen in space) as well as propelled missiles, while the military engineers and scientists experiment with perfecting the laser; they don't expect results for awhile.
-Defense -
-The humans have force-fields that block lasers, but anything else can come through; including the aliens themselves. So far, the technology is only good enough so form a straight wall, and they have no shield that they are able to put around their ships other than reinforced plating.
-The Humans are also working hard to synthetically create rithum, it is actualy going far better than planned.
Rykar
-Infantry Weapons-
-The Rykar primarily use lasers, plasma, and rithum. Lasers are powerful, but highly volatile, and often kill the user as well as the target when fired to rapidly or for too long. The plasma guns are the most reliable of the Rykar guns, but lack the power of the laser. The plasma guns fire a ball-shaped projectile filled with an acidic plasma fluid that bursts open when hit. The Rithum guns fire a projectile made from the crystal mined primarily in Lysetin. They are extremely sharp, and are most often used in long range, high-powered guns and as flak in shotgun-type weapons and in some select explosives.
-the Rykar's explosives are usually made from chemical reactions with plasma, offering a deadly, acidic bomb to their enemies.
-A popular melee weapon is a Rithum blade; they are often mounted as bayonets, or used as knives and swords.
-A strong point in the Rykar infantry is the Kran. The enormous beasts are not only strong and tough, but also hold an advantage over their human counterparts(titans); they are fighting with their own bodies, not a machine. The Kran are most often the ones equipped with lasers, as they are the most likely to survive an explosion caused by the guns' malfunctioning.
-Space Combat -
- Here is where the Rykar hold their most precious advantage. The Rykar use lasers. The large chance of malfunctioning is still there, but the explosion is not enough to damage the hull of the ship, and there is always a team of engineers on the large ships ready to replace or fix any destroyed gun. Since the humans haven't come up with better shields, they easily gun down all but the most experienced pilots.
-Defense -
-The Rykar use Rithum to make tough, light armor, and even reinforce their ship hulls with it, making them much stronger and more durable. Bullets can still pierce through, but it takes a long, hard effort. They are experimenting with force fields as well as a laser that can pierce throught the humans'.
Misc.
-Robots are quite prominent, and highly intelligent. Some are used as bodyguards, and some are as basic as waiters. They are not often employed in the military because while they are intelligent, they require loads of programming, and it would be impossible to program a robot to respond to every possible action in war.
-Cybernetic implants and limbs are not in any way rare, people involved in accidents, as well as people that just want to be augmented have them.

Ask questions if there are any. Because of the nature of this RP, I would ask that you wait until I or Channler approve your character, seeing as I have just created many things, and I would like to keep it all under wraps if you know what I mean.
